Mister Rafferty

Rafferty could barely see his toddler from where he sat on the park bench. This was mostly due to a large, slushy snow drift seated a mere foot infront of him, but also because Riley was fairly small and easy to lose track of. Or rather, he would have been if seeing a dark brown splotch crawling over the off-white of the much trafficked snow had been hard to see. Still, Rafferty had the feeling a better guardian would have moved by now to make sure their elk-thing was not nearly the not really frozen lake that was quite close to the park they were visiting.

Rafferty, clearly, had no intention of becoming a better guardian. Within five minutes he had gotten bored with the situation, and pulled out his softcore romance novel of the week. If Riley insisted on taking longer than a hundred and twenty seconds to play, he was going to do something of interest.

As though he was fully aware of his sudden freedom, which Riley just might have been, the elk hybrid instantly crawled out of the rather frosty sandbox he had been left to play in. The toddler, being what he was, had a tough outer coat of fur. Thus, he had been left without a coat, and the freedom of movement that meant getting into trouble would be two times as easy as it would have been in a thick winter jacket.

He took his time about deciding a destination, carefully balancing his options on a purely 'is it edible?' sort of basis. His attention moved from the monkey bars, to the horse thing one could rock on back and forth, to... something shiny and wet in the distance. Now, that was interesting. With a short glance to make sure Rafferty was not watching him, Riley began to quickly make his way down to the not-so-frozen lake. If anything could be digested, he knew it would be something liquid.

"Snowe!" Medusa cried out into the air, her eyes wide and large as Kanth had picked up a large clump of the loose white stuff, dropping it onto Medusa's head with gentle care. The snow dissipated slowly into water, but Medusa seemed happy at this cold stuff that felt rather nice.

"Yes, Medusa. Snow." Kanth smiled widely, glad she was back to spend time with her kids. She was less than happy with Tiil, and had taken care of him the instant she got home. Even Altessa had been happy to see her, a step up from the grumpy child she usually was.

Glancing over, Medusa gave another soft cheer as she spotted another Dcorp kid, turning and running over the snow to greet him. Walking was still a big feat for her, but the snow helped a bit, as it really was just frozen snow.

Medusa would be fine in this weather, Kanth thought to herself, smiling as she glanced around for the owner to this particular kid.

Riley was not stupid by any means, but he was slow in manner. His brain moved, as well as his body, but at a turtle's pace rather than- well... an elk's. The world was a large place, and the child liked to soak it all up like a sponge. He got a bit supersaturated at times though, and the facts and sounds and colors spilt out of him. That was when he had time to react.

He smiled carefully as the little girl came over to him, aware in the back of his mind they might have some kinship, but not enough that he felt the need to speak. Not being at all talkative went hand in hand with the slowness, for Riley. In some sign of recognition, he sat up onto his knees, giving up his crawling stance in favor of a slightly taller one.

It was the shrill cry of 'SNOW' that had Rafferty actually looking up. He had been engrossed in a rather intimate scene between Victoria and her fiancee's evil twin, Roberto. Surely, at any moment the good twin, Ed, would come bursting through the apartment door. The man was an avid reader, and knew enough of the classic romance novel formula to tell when things like that would occur. Kinda made things anticlimatic, in the end.

Frowning, he stood up, shoving the paperback novel into an inside pocket of his open jacket. At his full height, Rafferty could easily see over the snow drift, all the way down to near the lake where some Dcorp... thing was harassing his child-thing. He wondered if he should intervene before Riley became rowdy by osmosis. That was how it worked with kids, right?

Seeing the other kid now, Medusa stopped and waved, eyes going wide with awe. He looked neat, and he looked like he was having fun! Perhaps she could join? Raising her hand, Medusa waved quietly, a smile spreading on her face.

"Greetings." Kanth murmured, clearing the snowbank and staring down at Rafferty with ease. "Is that one yours?" A glance to the Elk with her cool gaze, and she leaned back a bit, crossing her arms. Medusa looked like she was rather enjoying herself.

Riley waved a hand, nearly losing his balance as he did so. The girl, whoever she was, seemed like fun herself. Maybe fun personified. Carefully, the elk child fell back onto all fours and then he raised himself to his feet. Actually walking was not completely beyond Riley. He could toddle along a few steps... a very few steps.

"Hi," he said, grinning widely. The female seemed a little older and better at the whole walking thing, so he allowed her to close the rest of the distance.

"Hi..." Rafferty was not grinning, but he seemed more or less neutral during the course of his reply. The majority of his attention stayed on his charge, and it might have seemed he was simply worried about Riley rather than he was worried about Riley getting along too well with some... "Jellyfish?"

The question was directed toward the mystery D-Corp child's guardian, though the professor was not exactly looking at her.

Glee! Medusa closed the rest of the way with ease, crouching to look at the other. How curious, he had fur! But the cold didn't seem to affect him either.

"Hiieee." She smiled. "I'm M'dusa."

"Moon." Kanth replied, nodding in affirmation. "Yours?"
