It was several hours until the sun rose and everything was freezing. The only sound peircing the frigid night air was the soft breath of a small mare. Dark circles framed her crystal like eyes giving away her lack of sleep. How many nights had she been searching these woods for Soquili? She had seen so many, but still none of them matched. Was it possable that she had only been dreaming in that basket?
No! She may have slept for a long time but she would never imagine her mother hurt in such a way. Shaking her head she regained her focus and began searching the trees again. She had searched the village top to bottom and found no sound of him. "He's somewhere...I know it..."

Although the ebony-spotted stallion was in better spirits lately, his adopted brother Nanaki had been 'kind' enough to point out that he was still, in blunt terms, 'sulking'. Still, since he had met his new companion, she had been insisting that she look after him. "What are you, my mother?" he has asked the lioness with no small amount of annoyance. "You had a mother?" she had asked in mock surprise. "You sure don't act like it. Mothers teach you manners." He ignored her for the remainder of their walk, until golden hues fell upon a small azure filly. He blinked a few times, connecting her colors with the colors of the basket he'd seen in miss Luna's care. "Is that..?"

A light blue ear flicked to the side as her tired eyes widened. That voice. It was no more then a whisper on the wind and for a moment she thought she was halucinating. There was no way. It was too lucky and yet...turning her head slowly she met the eyes of a stallion pitch as night. So that voice, it was his, or was it the cat's beside him? She couldn't tell from this distance.
"You...have I met you before?" She questioned rather harshly aproaching the pair. She needed a closer look and a better hear if she were to know if what she saw was truth. To know if this was the one she seeked.

Golden eyes softened as the stallion lifted his head to meet the gaze of the ivory and periwinkle mare, a sad smile adorning his features as he spoke in a low and gentle tone, although it didn't betray the inner torment he was feeling as he gazed upon the mare he might have had the chance to see grow up... perhaps as an uncle, if nothing else. "Are you miss Luna's daughter?"

At the question she knew. It was him and he would pay. Her eyes darkened a few shades as her eyes narrowed. "Yes...and you are the reason..." She took her battle stance and charged. She skidded a bit on the frozen ground and flew into a tree instead of her intended target however. Shaking off the hit and her sleep she took her stance again. With the ground like this it would be hard to get a hit in her state.

"I am the reason..?" he prompted, but dropped all intentions in the ways of discovering what she was going to say when she charged at him. He didn't move, smile fading as an insurmountable pain leaked into his golden hues, expecting her to crash into him when she charged straight into a tree instead. Concern immediately washed over him as she straightened again, but he was sure she wouldn't allow him near her if he tried to help. Taking a moment to ponder the meaning of her half-finished statement, he spoke again. "Did I hurt her somehow? I suppose that means you're here for retribution, then." That sad smile was back again, and when she charged again, he still didn't move.

"You're smarter then I gave you credit for..."She said slowing her charge to keep from hitting him. Stepping higher then usual she begain to circle the stallion sizing him up like a vulture. He didn't look strong or that smart, so how did he hurt her mother so? There must have been something she was missing. "Answer me this...and I might go easy on you...what did you do to my mother...?" She snorted turning sharply to face him dead on glaring straight into his eyes.

A soft sigh befell his lips as he let his eyes slide closed, ears dropping back against his skull as he forced himself to relive that day... that horrible day when everything ended. "You probably won't believe me, but I didn't do anything to your mother. Quuite the opposite, really... I left because she made it apparent that she feared me."

"Wrong answer!" She snapped before racing past him. For a moment she appeared to be leaving but then she begain to circle the pair to gain speed. Did he think she was stupid? If her mother was scared there was obviously a reason wether he wanted to admit it or not.
Feeling she had enough speed going she charged at him only to miss again. She was a little annoyed by how off her aim was, perhaps she should have slept? Either way she reared back to put a twist on a move she had seen her mother doing several times before. Pulling back her front legs she began to kick at the stallion before her eyes full of something akin to blood lust.

His expression was tired, defeated, as he watched her turn and come at him with another attack. What else could he do? If she wanted revenge on him for hurting her mother, who was he to deny her that? Perhaps, in some way he didn't understand, it was justified. He looked down to his annoyed companion, who was currently growling and lengthening her claws. He shoved her back with a gentle push of his hoof. "Get lost, Kumori." "Are you crazy?" she hissed. "You're just going to let her attack you?" He sighed. "What else can I do? I could no sooner harm her than miss Luna, and I can think of no other way to convince her that I speak the truth. Now go. I don't want you involved in this." The lioness looked skeptical, but finally heaved a sigh of her own and shook her head as she turned to leave. "Fine, but don't get yourself killed, imbecile!" And then she was gone. Shadow cracked a miniscule smile at the affectionate insult his furry companion had dubbed him with, but it was immediately wiped away as the cyan mare's back hooves struck his chest. He felt something crack- probably a rib or two, and he grunted in pain and grimaced, but still didn't move.

She grinned in triumph at the dull crack but it wasn't as satisfactory as she had hoped. She kicked at him once again before letting her atack let up to face. "Why don't you listen to your cat?" She asked voice low with something like a growl brewing in her throat. He was a confusing horse. He hurt her mother but he didn't seem like he'd be able to hurt anyone. "It would be best..."
Why was she hesitating like this? She wasn't letting it show but she was. She had dreamt of nothing else for so long and now he was right there. She could snap him, break him, but she didn't want to. Why?

He grimaced again as her second kick elicited a rather loud 'SNAP' from the vicinity of his chest, and he stumbled back with a pained grunt. Yes, those were definitely going to be some broken ribs. "Even if you don't believe me, I had no desire to hurt your mother, nor do I have any desire to hurt you."

"Then why did you?!"She snapped her voice thundering in the quiet forest. She took another step forward keeping her fighting stance strong and her glare locked on his amber eyes."If you didn't want to hurt us why did you hurt her?! She trusted you and you broke that like an empty pot!" With that she pushed her self up and stomped down with her front hooves. She wouldn't kill him, no. That wasn't enough. She'd break his mind, snap it in two like he did to her mother.

"What do you want from me?!" he stomped one hoof, finally becoming angry at the insinuation that he wanted to hurt the mare he'd loved for his own satisfaction. "What would you expect me to do?! I didn't do anything to warrant her irrational fear of me! Would you rather I'd have stayed and broken my own heart, and continued to scare her by doing nothing?! I loved your mother more than anything, but it's obvious that she never trusted me," his conviction seemed to drain away at the last statement, head drooping as another sigh escaped his lungs.

She backed away a little bit at his reaction. So this was as touchy a subject for him as it were for her. It would have been good if he had been like that before but now she wouldn't be able to adjust her strategy if he attacked.
"Yes I do..." she challenged taking a more defensive stance. If he attacked she'd be ready. "I expect you to fix her! If you love her as you say then you'd help her and as you don't seem to be doing that..." She snorted and shook her head. It served two purposes, to clear her vision and make her look more intimidating. "So you are at fault!!!"
