The peacock kyunru looked almost normal again. That is to say, her coat was groomed, her hair combed, her tails not encased in dirt as they had been on her last visit to the shop. Trelweny had severely chastised her, saying sadness was no reason to neglect herself and that when she had more cause to be happy Keyna would be pleased that she was presentable. It was hard to ignore her bond's advice, for the widowed human spoke from her own experience. Trelweny was always clean, her hair daily braided -and Keyna knew more than most in their family the human's deep sadness through the mental link they shared.

So her appearance was lovely as ever... but her expressive brown eyes were sad & her tails drooped as if it was an effort merely to keep them from dragging on the ground. Finding a random book she curled into a ball where a sunbeam warmed the ground from a window & attempted to read.

Life was full of choices, and it just so happened that that day Fafnir had chosen to take a quiet, pleasant stroll down the road instead of burying himself head first into a book. Yes, the feat was quite impressive in his mind; him choosing the outside over a book, but Christmas only came around once a year, and specially due to his disposition and perhaps partly due to his heritage, the dragon found he was slightly religious. Enough to care what time of year it was and smile, if ever so slightly anyhow.

Despite how much he usually grumped and fought back whenever his owner forced him to get some of this 'proverbial air' as she called it, Fafnir found he rather much enjoyed being outside. Specially while it was cold, for some odd reason. He'd known Pyry felt attracted to the cold too, something about him having perhaps something of an affinity with 'ice dragons' as his markings showed and his tail voiced out, however, Fafnir was no ice dragon, at least that he was aware of.

As he padded on, blue hued eyes stopped on a particular building, his brow furrowing as he looked around; he'd somehow, unawares, come to stop himself right in front of Elderspark. Again. What was it with this place? it was like... it had some sort of allure to it; it called to him, even when he wasn't paying attention to where he was going! Truth be told, the dragon kyun had merely been walking quite aimlessly, and thus finding himself upon such familiar terrain, had suddenly startled him.

He didn't question further; being a creature that strongly believed in fate, he merely allowed his features to slip into their normal indifference before padding towards the shop, nosing the door open with his maw. Slowly padding in, he closed the door awkwardly, pushing it with one of his hind feet, taking care his claws would not harm the wooden structure. His eyes soon enough lay upon the sole figure that lay beneath the ray of sunlight a window offered; though her gaze was upon a book, her frame, her body language told the dragon that she wasn't doing so much reading as she was mourning.

The sight bothered him, for reasons unknown, and slowly, the dragon made his way towards Keyna, his features bearing concern before he allowed himself to lay down beside her, curling his tail slightly around her body, "What's wrong?" it was a direct question, for Fafnir was never known for beating around the bush, however, no matter how blunt the question had been, his features showed he was worried; the fact he had allowed himself to lay so near her, almost as if pondering that perhaps she needed a hint of affection, even if it was his own, showing through, "No one would ever look this sad just from reading a story... no matter how terribly saddening the plot maybe..."

One lop ear rose at the voice as if not quite believing what was thought to be heard. Keyna's head slowly followed, brown eyes flickering with hope. "Fafnir?"

Seeing him, a light she had not known had been missing from her eyes reappeared and a soft smile touched her face. Only then did she notice the dragon-kin's closeness. She blushed & automatically dipped her head demurely.

Only for an instant. Then she brought her doe's eyes to a level with Fafnir's. "I apologize... you asked a question." Her speech was still slow & deliberate, but more from deliberation of finding the correct words than not being able to speak. "The truth is... I am not quite certain. I think perhaps I have been lonely, though with my family I do not see how I could be."

Keyna tilted her head, a perplexed look joining her smile. "It is not so bad now."

"Indeed," it was meant to be more of a statement, but due to the fact her last few words had perplexed him, it came out as more of a question than anything, "Questions are meant to be answered, however, sporadically... in due time," it was an excuse mostly for her to use, so that she wouldn't feel all that bad about not being able to answer, however, his own words did not satisfy him. Her perplexed look only fueled his worry, and the dragon lowered his head, pressing his forehead to hers, a means to check her temperature. He frowned when his skin told him she was in fact not sick, "Are you sure?"

Lifting his clawed hand, he took a soft grip of the female's chin and lifted it to meet his eyes; no, he really and truly could not see any form of sickness about her, and thus it left merely one last thing it could be. A matter which he truly couldn't cure at that, "It must be a sickness of the heart then," the were were spoke softly, his eyes hooding over like normally as he lowered his claw, "My brother has been suffering that for a while now; it not a sickness medicine can cure."

Of course, then again, needless to say, Fafnir was not an expert of the heart; if anyone had to ask anything about that sort of thing, it would've been best to ask Hong, not the dragon. He was at a loss of what to do or say; his speciality was teaching, books and facts. Not this, "Is there anyway I can help?" it was new ground he'd not tread upon and the dragon was perhaps slightly nervous, his brow furrowing somewhat.

"I wished to answer you." Keyna pronounced softly, still quite perplexed. Her eyes closed as the dragon Kyun pressed his forehead to hers, then opened as Fafnir turned her head to face his squarely. Soft lop ears turned to catch his softly spoken words.

"I... think perhaps it might be. That is where I feel heavy, sometimes." Although her eyes blinked, long lashes fluttering softly time to time against her cheek, Keyna did not move her gaze away from his eyes. Somehow it was important to her not to look away. "At first I thought I was picking the feeling up from my bond, but when she asked about it I knew it was mine."

Her peacock tails flicked lightly just above the ground & across Fafnir's tail where it curled around her. She did not know what to say about his brother, though she wondered if he meant Gabriel, so said nothing on that. However, "There is something you can do. Or rather, there must be. For already I am feeling much lighter inside. I think..." She paused, breaking her gaze with Fafnir only because her thoughts were going inward. "I think I missed you, Fafnir."

She looked at him then with innocent sweetness, her head starting to tilt letting her hair spill to the floor as if wondering if it was acceptable to have missed her friend & teacher.

"And you have answered me," there was a slow deliberate smile curling upon the dragon's maw before he looked off, directing his gaze towards the high shelves of the store he'd come to know so well; in a sense, it was deeply... comforting, really, to know there was a place left that had a link to kyendi.

He'd missed the place once it'd vanished, and he could still feel it's tug deep down within his soul. So long ago... he remembered there were so many kyunrus, and where they gathered within this world, known as Gaia. Then suddenly, they'd vanished, and very few were left; in fact, Keyna was one of very few others he knew, aside from his 'brother' Gabriel, and 'sister' Hong. The fact she was one of few others he knew, made him feel slightly overprotective of her, almost as if he feared she'd one day vanish; melt away into nothing, just like those old kyuns had.

It was a disturbing thought.

As the female continued to talk, Fafnir broke the bubble of thought that had been occupying his mind, an ear whirling to face her as he gaze finally settled back upon the fae's face, "Yours?" this was still new grounds; he was unsure of what to do, or even say, for these matters could never have been learnt from a book, but from experience. It was obvious that a bookworm such as himself wouldn't have had such experiences. As the pause in her voice followed, his eyes trailed down to her tails, which had idly flicked upon his tail; they were truly different, weren't they? Raising a claw, he gazed at it; yes, he'd always know himself to be different. I didn't bother him though; he was a dragon and dragons were creatures with pride.

He prided himself in what he was, yet there were times he'd wished he was different than what he was; he had scales, horns, and large wings that permitted him to fly. The female by his side however, had captivating eyes; he liked her eyes, he thought as he turned to gaze at her, that same smile coming upon his maw, "I missed you too," there was no hesitation and unlike her, he didn't 'think' he missed her. He knew; and there was nothing wrong with that, now was there? This said, the dragon seemed to hesitate for a moment before lowering his head to her level, brushing his maw against the back of her head in a soft nuzzle, "If there is anything at all, do tell me," he paused then, leaving his maw against her pelt for a moment or two before he raised his head.

Yes, there was nothing wrong with that.

Her feelings were so strangely new to her that Keyna often did not know what to think about them. Then there was the bond with her human, who was herself an empath of sorts. Their family often became caught up in Trelweny's unbridled emotions, and for Keyna it was easier than most to fall prey to mistaking the young woman's feelings for her own. It would be easier if Trelweny had better control... but as of yet that was not the case.

So it was that had her only thinking she missed Fafnir. That, and Keyna had never missed anyone before. Although she had visited the meadows where her egg had been found in the shadow of the ruins of Kyendi she had been but a baby. Nearly everyone else she knew was family, and seen frequently if not daily.

Her eyes closed gently at the feel of Fafnir's maw on her head, in her hair. Keyna sighed faintly & curled her head so that her nose brushed his neck & their heads made an oval together. She did not move her head even when Fafnir raised his.

"I have never missed anyone before." She confessed at last in a soft & gentle tone. She breathed softly into his neck, inadvertently breathing strongly in the scent of the dragon kyunru. Keyna found she liked it. "I only knew I was lonely, and thought how I would like to see you again."

Was that all it was? Keyna had always felt young in her family, even now with so many more joining almost everyday. Although she was seldom overlooked -everyone raved about their pretty Kyunru "sister"- Keyna was also seldom interacted with. But was that because she chose to shadow Trelweny, or stay in the human's bedroom? Or because even her family's cheerful way of including her did not abate the fae kyunru's loneliness. But being with Fafnir did. Why was that?

The peacock fae did not know the answer but moved a fraction closer to her friend and teacher, feeling instantly a little warmer.

He seemed slightly bothered by her answer, his languid gaze dropping to her as his brows knitted, "That's rather sad..." he was used to missing others; even his brother Gabriel, whom was usualy quite the pain to endure was missed when he was absent for more than a day.

Fafnir knew he wasn't all that old; merely a few years in age, however, in his mind he somehow knew himself to be far more ageless than that. Perhaps it was the dragon genes within him that made him think, or even act in the ways he did; he had instincts he'd noticed his brother did not have, and though he tried to keep them at bay, they showed often. Not many outsiders knew of them, but his family was well aware of them; as a dragon, Fafnir was used to Hoarding.

At first, as a child, it had always bothered him, his logical mind never understanding the fact he felt compelled to hoard and guard those things he found to be either shinny enough to be a treasure, or precious enough to be guarded. Right now he was perfectly aware his mind had made a decision for him; he felt Keyna was shinnier than any other treasure he'd ever set his eyes upon, and further more precious than any other thing he'd attempted to guard. Thus he acted on instinct; something he couldn't quite controll, compelled.

He lowered his head down as she pressed closer to him and too the time to curl his larger body around her slightly smaller one, his tail coming to curl around her back and over her front feet, "You're precious to me; but I feel bad knowing you've never missed others... not even your human?" his head came to rest over hers, and though the words were not yet voiced, the actions were.

I love you...

"Sad?" She repeated softly, barely a murmur against his neck. Had she been sitting up Keyna might have quirked her head at him, her eyes not understanding. Yes... she had been sad without really knowing why -but why would Fafnir say that? And why did he sound troubled? The last thing the peacock fae wanted was to trouble him.

What was it about being with Fafnir that made her feel even younger compared to him than she was? Even Remus, with his 'before' spanning years more than their human had did not give the feeling she had around the dragon kyunru of ageless wisdom. It made her feel extremely naive... yet at the time completely secure.

There were no words that Keyna knew to explain her relieved elation when not only was her motion towards him accepted but expounded as his smooth body gently enveloped hers. His words made her heart race and sent a tiny shiver through her. She was precious to him? Keyna let her eyes fall closed & she sighed happily. Her family held her as precious -Locke & Trelweny especially for having found her egg in the ruins of Kyendi- but somehow knowing Fafnir held her as precious meant so much more to the demure female. Opening her mouth so to speak she sighed happily first to feel his head upon her own. Her lop ear flicked ever so slightly at the feel of the dragon-kyun's whisker near it but quickly became accustomed to the sensation. "Trelweny has a strong mind -whether she will accept that or not. She is never more than a thought away, so it would be difficult to miss her. But even were she gone far away a very long time..." Keyna paused, gathering her words or perhaps her thoughts. "It would be different, somehow."

She wished she knew better how to explain what she was feeling, but how could she when Keyna was as uncertain of what she was feeling as of the words to express it?

Her tails fanned out where they were, creating a sort of fur & feathery blanket over Fafnir's tail & their lower halves. She nuzzled her head almost naturally under his chin but for the abrupt halt as Keyna realized what she had been doing. A bright flush darkened the white fur on her cheeks & for their warmth the dainty fae hoped Fafnir could neither feel nor see her blush. Why was she blushing anyway? She sometimes nuzzled one of the talaye or kitsu that way -why should this be any different? Keyna did not know the why, only that somehow it was so.

"Please do not feel bad, Fafnir." Her sweet & deliberate voice was a soft murmur. "I would that you were happy." And if anything I can do would make you happy, I would more than gladly do so. She thought to herself, neither aloud nor to the dragon-kyunru's mind.

If she knew the male's thoughts her confused emotions might start making sense as she made the correlation between them and the emotion that her human -and therefore she too- picked up from some of the more visible members of their rather large family. But as it was, she did not and therefore could not know that what she felt for Fafnir was indeed love.

"Sad," he replied, and though he wasn't used to smirking, he could not help himself; the slight curving of his lips seemed unnatural upon his face, almost as if it did not belong there, however, it wasn't a cold gesture. Far from it, it seemed to voice the fact the dragon was singularly amused by her sole word, "Even if merely a thought away... mind and body are not the same. You can not hold a thought, and you can not care fo it like you would a phisical manifestation," a pause, there was a rumbling within his chest that suggested a chuckle, however, it never escaped his maw, "Wouldn't you say? Imagine not being about to touch those you love and care for, just having them within your mind; it's not the same."

His head remain over hers till then, slowly moving as he lowered it, seeking his gaze within his own, "I miss my brother when he's not there, even despite his nasty attitude... which I know is just for show. I miss my human when she leaves and can I can not see her; it matters not that I can see her in my thoughts... it is not the same as when I sit on her lap and she reads and I stare at the flames that dance in the fireplace. There's a silence in companionship that can not be achieved with thoughts; that longuing for someone... the wish to be with them, that's how youknow you miss them," he'd noticed her nuzzle under his chin before, and he dare not voice outloud for her to repeat the motion, but his eyes did twinkle, almost mysteriously as he leaned in again, his mow coming to rest against hers, nose to nose, "You can only miss that what you Love, and those whom you Care for; it is a strong pull, and a stronger feeling, hard to identify within ourselves, but easily recognisable amongst others."

The smirk had vanished by then, replaced by a languid smile that matched him far better than the previous curling of his lips; warm and kind, it seemed understanding as he kept his nose against hers, "There's a joy in sadness, just like there's sadness in joy; I feel bad because I care for you,"I worry because I love you; It's only natural," it was only moments after he'd said it that he noticed his words of choice, the feeling finaly voiced. He breathed then, sattisfied; it'd been easier than he'd thought it'd be, however then again, he'd always been quite eloquent, not to mention he felt rather safe and comfortable around the smaller peacock.

Again he turned his head from her, settling it over her head, allowing himself the priviledge of nuzzling there, almost as if a means to show her he in fact, had not minded her previous actions. He dared say he'd liked them, however, voicing more words would probably not be the best course of action, he decided, and thus instead he showed her in the only other way he could; through his actions. His wings spread sligtly to cover her body, his tail curling up against her slightly closer in the best impresion of a hug the dragon could manage.

She listened to his words; felt how they moved through his body like when he was teaching her to speak aloud. The silent chuckle's rumble made her tingle & the peacock fae closed her eyes softly. And she did try to imagine... which brought a light sheen of tears to her eyes. They clung to her lashes there as they filtered out her closed eyes.

When his head moved her eyes fluttered open, soft moisture flickering off her lashes and along the bottom of her large brown doe eyes though no tears fell. Keyna gazed into his cold eyes finding warmth. He was right of course. Companionship was much different then a mental touch, no matter how strong. She would certainly miss curling up against her human while she read while laying upon the bed if she was gone long enough. She never seemed to be gone very long however. Not like missing Fafnir.

Keyna loved the feel of his nose pressed to hers and despite her agreement did not make voice perhaps in fear that he would stop -that she would no longer be staring into his eyes that gave her such comfort. As he finished speaking her eyes widened in the revelation he placed before her. His confession... and what it revealed within her.

He turned his head & then she felt the weight of it upon her own. She closed her eyes again, attempting to find words for the feelings she was suddenly starting to understand. Keyna sighed happily as his wing enveloped her and soon was snuggling closer into Fafnir's side, nearly becoming drunk on the feel of him beside her. She nuzzled gently the dragon kyun's chest, neck, & the underside of his chin. A sound almost the equivalent of a purr spreading through her. "It is only natural." Keyna repeated softly, her voice light & happy. "Hard to identify within ourselves... but once realized... once recognized..."

Though she was practically speaking into his chest at this point but she had such a clear deliberate way of speaking that was hardly an obstacle to hear her words. "As much as I missed you... as strong as the pull was to see you again... I must love you very much, Fafnir."

She turned her face closer into his body then, letting her hair hide her face to others & cascade over their paws. "I just did not know enough to know it." Keyna whispered, pressing closer still & shivering lightly.
