Welcome to Rias Weyr!

So let's begin shall we? Now that you're here don't think you'll just be sitting around doing nothing all day because that is far from the truth. There are other ways to aid the Weyr other than riding a dragon, and you'll soon find out what life here is really like.

Note: Some lessons depend on a clutch being on the sand and the RP time of other riders and their dragons.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Candidate Requirements

- Usually aged between 14 - 21
- If the candidate is a female standing for a queen egg - usually no younger than 16
- Candidates must be in good health, physically and mentally.
- If candidate is of a craft, preferably they should be no higher in rank than an apprentice.
- Pregnant women will not be allowed to stand.
- Must not be married.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Daily duties

Your duties can vary but are generally the least fun jobs that need to be taken care of.

If your candidate is of a craft they wish to continue within the Weyr they will be placed under the care of a journeyman/woman and taught until hatching. (They only need to attend the candidate lessons.)

Other jobs will be given out as seen fit, worse if for a punishment.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Lessons

Here is where the fun begins! No matter whether you are training with a craft or doing other Weyr duties, these lessons must be attended to...or else! There will be serious consequences for anyone who doesn't show up. As you'll see...Blyir is a tough Master.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

Candidates will be expected to complete and short paper, answering questions to show they have paid attention in class. Those who answer less than 80% correctly will be punished and made to re-take the exam.
(if your candidate failed to attend you can expect him/her to fail...unless they copy someone else's answers >_>;; )

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

In this class students will learn what exactly dragonriders do and what they are expected to accomplish here at Rias Weyr.

No one said being a candidate would be easy...

-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Third Lesson

Duration -- 1 - 2 Weeks (RL time)

This is one of the more fun and enjoyable lessons and exam free! It is a time when Candidates can familiarise themselves with dragons and get to know what they are like up close.

They will learn how the dragon feels, works and how it should be treated.

For this lesson Brown Waroth shall be used.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Fourth Lesson

Duration -- 1 - 2 weeks (RL time)

This lesson will focus on what will happen on the day of the hatching.

- The Clutch
- The Queen egg
- The hatching events
- Impressing
- Failure to Impress a dragon and what it will mean.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Fifth Lesson

Duration -- 1 - 2 weeks (RL time)

This lesson will be the last official class that Candidates have to attend. After it is complete they must pass an exam and then continue to work at the Weyr until hatching. If they fail then they may continue their lessons to do a retake.

- Respect of the Queen
- Touching of the eggs
- Familiarising with the Hatching Grounds

FINAL EXAM:
This exam will involve both written and practical aspects.

The first section will be another exam paper with questions that need to be answered, once again 80% of these must be correct if the Candidate doesn't want to fail.

Next, brown Waroth will once again be needed, and each Candidate will be called up and given an instruction, if they complete the task correctly then they will pass.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Before Graduation

As previously stated, until the Hatching occurs the Candidates must continue their duties to the Weyr until they are able to have a chance at impression.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------
After Graduation

If impression was successful you are now a Weyrling and under the watch of the Weyrlingmaster who will continue to teach you the qualities of becoming a rider.

If you did not impress then you may either stay at the Weyr as a Candidate or return to your Hold to carry out your studies of your craft.

Weyrling Duties

WeyrlingMaster: Greenrider Farin
Weyrling Training Staff- None yet

Hello, Weyrlings! Ready to graduate? Well, first you have to grow up.

Here is your list of assignments. We shall try our best to cover everything, but mostly we shall focus on the exams. Consider this your dragonrider's 'quest'.

Note: These "weeks" are not based on pern time, but gaia time. A Weyrling will be in training for about two years. Depending on the RP speed of the group, some lessons will go fast and not need a whole week, and other lessons will go short. Once all topics have been discussed, the Weyrling lesson will close- However, your character is welcome to making an RP thread that discusses the afrermath of the event.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Daily Schedule:

Morning; Oil dragon, bathe, breakfast.
Mid Morning; Attend early training practices. (Daily runs, Firestone tossing, rope climbing...)
Afternoon; Break for lunch, before continuing with the day's training.
Mid Afternoon; Chores
Night; Dinner, feed dragon, bed before midnight.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

Phase one- Flightless

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

First week:

The first week between a dragon and his new rider is phenomenally important to their development. During this time the newly forged pair will be growing to know and care for one another. Lessons during this week focus primarily on caring and learning about your new dragon.

Lessons:

- Butchering; Learning to cut meat for your growing dragonet.
- Dragon hygiene; keeping their bodies well oiled, and spotting for cracks in the skin.
- Human hygiene; care of the human body- and their dorm.
- Dragon anatomy.
- Weyr etiquette.
- How to deal with an overfed dragon.

Second Week:

The second week will deal with the rapidly growing dragonet, and keeping it's attention long enough to begin it's training. It will also deal with the importance of self control as a rider.

Lessons:

- The effect a rider's emotions on the dragon.
- Sexuality
- Dragon colors
- Rider's knots (Along with the construction of their first riding knot.)
- Dragon first aid.
- Telepathy training, how to send a dragon an image, and visa versa.

Third Week:

With the dragonet almost nearing it's flight stage, importance begins to shift on the rider's ability to control his or her dragon, and their ability to work as a team.

Lessons:
- Firestone
- Ground drills start- Weyrlings must be able to mimic flight formations on the ground during endurance runs.
- Firestone bag chains to increase strength.
- Flamethrower upkeep (Queens)
- Flight mechanics- Rider only.
- Dragons must begin to work out their wings every day, and practice ground leaps.

Fourth Week:

The dragonet continues to increase in size, and is almost ready to fly a rider. Lessons in this week will develop almost totally on readying the rider to begin flight lessons.

Lessons:
- Riding straps
- More ground formations (Farin laughs.)
- Practice flights with elder dragons for those who have not flown before.

EXAM:
Making their own first riding straps. Straps must be inspected by Weyrlingmaster and approved before going on to the next stage. Pending exam passing, your dragon will be grown into its weyrling stage!

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

Phase two: Dragonflight!

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

Week Five:

Did you know your dragon can fly? Well, your dragon did, and it's time to try it out. Pending approval of the exam, the first flight lessons may begin.

Lessons:
- Leather straps part two. (You didn't think you were done with this, did you?)
- The first solo flight- dragon only. If dragon passes, his/her rider may mount.
- Flights will last with only one rider in the air at a time, for only a few minutes at a time. Every day this will be repeated, eventually adding weights to simulate passengers.

EXAM:
Safely carry a basket of glows a loop around the valley. If completed, dragon and rider may be cleared to allow passenger flight.

Week Six:

Now that the rider and dragon are properly air borne- it's time for more ground training. These two lessons will last the entire week.

Lessons:
- Ground drills.
- Hand to hand combat lesson.
- Weyrlings leave the communal barracks and move to Weyrling weyrs. They are expected to not go crazy having their own room.

Week Seven:

It's time for some serious flight, and even more serious training. Your dragon is massive now, but not quite at it's full size. Telepathic bonds should now be near complete.

Lessons:
- Firestone- dragons will be given a small amount to chew and learn how to control their other stomach.
- Flight formations- aerial. Weyrlings are assigned into groups of four to learn how to move in the air around one another.
- Flight formations part two, competition! Wet rags painted red will be tossed from the air, and it will be a Weyrlings job to avoid them without getting dye on them.
- Weyrlings may now hunt on their own.

Week Eight:

The thing which makes dragons invaluable- between. This weeks lesson will be by far, one of the most dangerous as the young pair learns to control their dragon in between.

Lessons:
- What is between?
- What are the dangers of between.
- Image transmission.
- First trip between- Rider on top of the Weyrlingmaster's dragon, and dragonet following behind.
- After a few of these such trips, Weyrling and rider must attempt to jump across the bowl on their own. The most dangerous step.
- Group jumps.

Week Nine:

Your dragon can now go between, so there's only one place to go from there- threadfall.

Lessons:
- Arial drills, between jumps to areas outside the Weyr.,
- Fire breathing with firestone.
- Firestone practice; flaming rags out of the air.

EXAM: Weyrling is now expected to be able to jump to a threadfall site and relay firestone. A trail run will be held, with a simulated threadfall. If passing, the dragon may provide relief efforts.

Week Ten-??:

Graduation time, but don't get excited! Your dragon is full grown now, but from here on it's up to you to pass as your Weyrling test.

Before Graduation:

- More aerial drills, firestone runs.
- Dragons may now fight thread at the very edges of the fall.
- Providing relief effort to small communities.
- Rider's under 16 are automatically promoted to Jr. Riders under the Weyrlingmaster. They must await graduation at a later time.

Requirements for Graduation:

- Must be over 16
- Must have completed a successful pair of riding straps.
- Must relay at least two bags of firestone successfully, and participate in an actual threadfall, or simulated threadfall.

EXAM:: The final exam is to be determined. >}
