Shake his hand, and tell him how much I appreciate his movies, tell him parts I liked, what I didn't like, learn stuff no one else knows, super-secret directory stuff from him about his movies and then say goodbye, don't want to take up the man's time.

I would just say whats up and ask for an autograph then leave him alone. Remember the people asking him all of thoes questions on the clerks 10th aniversary DVD? He sounded hostile there sweatdrop

I don't know what I WOULD do, but I definently wouldn't ask for an autograph (unless I was going to sell it on eBay) or takle him (I might bruise his genius). 3nodding

I think I would start by testing the waters, "Excuse me, but are you Kevin Smith?" Once that's established I think I would tell him I love his work and mention that I think it's rad that he used the funds from the films to open a comic book store.

Hmm wow. This is actually a really good question.
First of course, I'd be wondering what he was doing in shopping for womens underwear, then realize. 'OMG! That' Kevin Smith..' Yeah, like that really just explains it all -_-"
Of course, I would do as if I was meeting anyone else. Smile and nod a little saying a sweet "Hello." Then, perhaps very casually wispering to him. "You are Kevin Smith? The acclaimed director?" Hoping not to draw any attention towards him. If he denied who he was I would kindly apologize for making the assumption, however still mention how I love the mans work.
If he stated that it was indeed him...I would explain to him how I absolutly loved his work and would like to shadow him if the opportunity ever arised.
I would try not to crowd him, or anything of the sort. Just be kind and curtious.
