So, our high school has one of the the top rated choirs in the country. We always get ones at festival. We kick a**.
But our director is so mean to us altos.
I makes me want to cry out about alto abuse into the dark night. It gives me nightmares. He hattttesss us.
He loves his little sopprannos and tenors... but no. Altos are worthless. We're just there for the harmony.
The bit that irks me the most is when he takes his rage out on us. Half my section can't even read music! In our choir that is completly... UNHEARD of. I thought it was a requirment to even get in!
And some of the girls, they can't sing worth crap. Like they got in without an audition! It makes me cry sometimes.
There are about three people in the section who sing about a whisper. And there's about 20 of us. We're a huge choir. Me, this girl Hannah, and Megan.
The sopprannos are all snotty about it to. Like 'Hey! We get the melody! Humph, we're better than you.'
Any other choirs have alto abuse? How about you should be a sopprano and your placed alto? It sucks.

Heh.. try having a song WITHOUT altos! (or any part, for that matter.. Even Sapranos are useful.. sometimes :p just messin'!)
But in our school its the altos that rock. Our choir teacher is always yelling at the sapranos for messing up their part while us altos got it great. I think its from most of the senior girls being altos.
I'm happy from where I am. If anyone says altos aren't important I just tell them to go take the bass out of a rap song (or any song, for that matter)(besides acoustic, of course.. and a capella.. razz ) and see if its still as good.

Yeah, well, if even half my section could sing, he possibly wouldn't hate us so much.
He went as far as saying:
'Altos are just scared soppranos!'

Oh no he di-in't! *z-snaps*
okay, that was bad. I wont do it again..
I think I need a talk with this guy..
and your section.
I think sapranos are just scared altos razz Melody is easy. Harmony is hard, especially trying to find the right notes.

We're one of those stuck up choirs with all the requirements to get in and stuff, and then he says things like that.
Makes me cry myself to sleep at night.

aww don't cry *hugs the poor, poor alto*
Just sing your heart out and make him regret saying those things.
Or just sing your heart out and have a good time and make sure he knows its definatly not for him :p
my choir teacher is only mean to us when it gets closer to the date of the concert, but that's just 'cause she's stressed and wants us to sound great.

I don't think our choir could ever sound bad if we tried.. but.. I wish I could whip my section into shape.
Our director is like, 'Just be a leader!'
What, so the rest of the section can just copy my voice?

I'm going to march right down to your school and yell at those darned altos for ruining the name of altos everywhere!
and kick them out until they audition through me to get back in... and possibly you too :p
I say we overthrow your teacher.. Honestly. razz
(evil teachers are one of the reasons why I don't like going to rich, upstate schools)

Rich, upstate..
Hmm, that sounds like my school.
He's not really evil most of the time. Just to us altos.

Definatly in need of an overthrow.
Even Thomas Jefferson said that governments need to be revolutionized every once in a while.
Just work through it, though. You'll get out of there soon enough and when you become a famous singer he'll be kicking himself about it.

yeah.. that's a silly dream. I'd much rather be a novelist..
Well, wish me luck! I'm off to bed to get some sleep before my audition tomorrow for a featured song at the concert!
I'm trying out to sing "Listen to your Heart" (The unplugged vocal edit from DHT).

heh, I ignore most of the other altos and sing at the volume and intensity required. If they match up with me, great. If not, well... at least we have a few good, confident altos to make up for the timid whispery ones.
Usually it's the tenors who get yelled at in my choir... although that doesn't happen much anymore because the guy who spent three years goofing off has now finished his degree and is no longer in the choir. Coincidence?
As for altos being scared sopranos, I tend to believe that to a degree for two reasons:
1. Most of the altos I've seen in my 7 years of singing in this University choir have been very timid singers.
2. I didn't know I was a soprano until I started taking voice and my instructor forced me to sing past the few squeaky notes of my upper passagio and I discovered I could sing all the way up to a high C. I never had the confidence to push past those notes where my voice shifted into the upper register.

PrettyPr0n How about you should be a sopprano and your placed alto? It sucks. For my first three weeks with my new singing teacher, I was made to sing alto because that's what the other two girls in my lesson sing. It drove me mad, and whenever I tried to tell my teacher she would say "Stop talking! You are wasting precious lesson time!" Except, I wasn't learning, I was just trying to sing lower than I should be singing without hitting my teacher.
Luckily, a couple of weeks into the term none of the other girls turned up to my lesson, so I could finally tell her what I was meant to be singing. She's now said that I might be doing grade 5 next year if I'm lucky, so I'm really happy xd
