Wondering how many of you have seen those interesting things... not much different from other flathead's except where the exhaust is positioned... unlike normal V-8s that have it coming aff the lower side of the block, these actually have the exhaust coming out basically above the pistons... it's really quite interesting... maybe rolling of the idea that hot gasses rise?
anyway, just wondering how many of you have seen those funky old things...

I saw a picture of one converted for drag racing...back from like, the '50s.

Seen plenty used in the post war salt flat racers, not enough speed equipment so they kinda dissappeared by the mid fiftys. The lincon v8 was intresting no crossflow design all the ports came out the top of the head. EDIT: Caddies are the same XD brain fart.

There's a pic for those of you who don't know what a Cadillac Flathead V8 looks like... check out where the exhaust comes from.

That's one of the shifters cars, maybe keith weesner. Caddys seam to be taking off, There's a modified being built in this country using a cad flatty, and one in sweeden I belive. I Still think I'd prefeer a V8-60 If I had to choose a boat anchor. rofl

I love the sound of them though, I describe it as sounding like bubbles "Exploding".

Excatally and my phylosiphy on hot rodding has allways been Speed. I think I know the car you're on about a streemliner right? There's some guy over here in england that has his flathead running 12s on the quater, still considering you could proberly get a 350 to do that with better induction and a stright through exhaust system.

I've seen plenty of 350s hitting 100MPH 12 Second quarters with little work. I like to keep it traditional, yet still go fast. I'd go with a 400 SBC if I ran a Chevy.

I'm not saying it's bad, but, my family has raised me to be ford. Anyway, one of the few Chevy engines I saw that I would have run was a 383 that was pumping 450hp, the only thing it needed was some head gaskets. 'twas a bad-a** motor. but yeah, I like 260s, 289s, 302s, 351s, etc. Oldsmobile motors are great though for drag racing. Those things have insane torque.

I like my ford, but I allso like Low buck things, chevy cannot be beaten on that front. I'd actually like to build a mid 50s style A tudor, With a y block with the Merc covers and two 98s. The olds J2s are incredible. My ultimate powerplant would proberly be a 427 SOHC, Till I win the lottery I'll keep dreaming.

People tend to think Hemi's were only produced by Chrysler, they don't realize that Hemi refers to the hemispherical heads, and that ford produced a 400+ cube motor with hemispherical heads. I can't remember whether it was the 427, 428, 429 that was the Shotgun Hemi. Not really sure what my ultimate motor would be, I wouldn't mine have an LS6 Spec 454 though. That's a true horsepower monster. The '71/'72 SS Chevelles that were LS6 454s were rated at 450hp, which was sandbagged by detroit. Stock LS6 454's have dynoed in at 512hp. I like straight eights just because they look funky, it'd also be cool to see one of the Cad V-16s, one of the old ones, that is.

I've been trying to find more information on it, but, I was told by an old hot-rodder that Studebaker or one of the company's that bit the dust far back in the past produced a straight-9 back in the '30s of '40s... that'd be truly an amazing motor to see...
Nailhead is another type of engine I really like, they just look so much different from a standard V8...
and if I was going to go with a boat anchor... it'd be an old straight-8... eights run a lot smoother than V8s becaues the throw on the crank is shorter... too bad there's not a lot of speed equipment for them...

I'd find an old OHV for a truely Trad rod, a Liberty would be intresting.
I absoltuly love nailheads, stright valves mean more opening per duration. A 401 with vinfage induction, like ansens would have to be one of my ultimate mills.
