The Republic
Truly, the New Republic has stood the test of time. Dating farther back than any other long-standing political organization, it is also one of the largest. Even through it's less-than-wonderful reputation, the Republic has the respect and order of the galaxy.
For the last three years, the New Republic has fought to regain control of systems lost during the Intergalactic Alliance period. It was a long, hard struggle, and the hard times forced the New Republic to accept the help of the Jedi, who graciously offered their services.
Overcome by gratitude, the leaders of the Republic agreed to allow the Jedi to step up to their rightful positions once more as the guardians of peace and justice in the galaxy. It was a difficult transition, wrought down by the endless haggling of the still-feisty galactic senate.
Now the periods of fighting are over, and the New Republic seeks to repair the damage caused by previous wars.Table of Contents Post 1: Introduction. Post 2: Political Rankings. History of the New Republic Government Ripped from the njoe. After the retaking of the galactic Capital world of Coruscant, the republican Government settled in Imperial City. The main government institutions are the Senate and the Chief of State. The new government was inspired by that of the Old Republic, but with a stronger government, to never again let a threat neither from the outside, nor the inside arise, or get to galactic power.
Membership: Each member world, system, sector or group of planets are voluntary members. Every member could quit at any time, and every world, asking for membership is allowed to join, if it fulfils some requirements. They have to follow the NR charter and several statutes, respect the rights of living beings, etc. and, of course, they have to pay annual assessments. But every member is given enough freedom in politics, etc. to keep their culture and traditions. That often complicates matters, or evolves into misunderstandings, but in those cases, ambassadors and other institutions solve the problems. Affiliate membership, or non-voting membership, is available to subordinate political units and to duly recognised representatives of sentient species not constituting a political unit.
Senate: After the replacement of the Provisional Council, the Senate is the main body of NR politics. Each Senator, representing 1 or several worlds, has only a single vote, regardless of the population presented. Every senator can represent from only one to a large number of planets, sectors, or even organisations spanning several planets (like the Trade Federation of the old Republic). Affiliate non-voting members are represented by a Legate on Coruscant, who may speak in general sessions of the senate, but may not vote on senate business or serve in the senate's various bodies (to avoid dual representation, cause the world/species/? is represented already by a sector senator [see Chancellor Palpatine, when he lets Amidala speak before the senate in TPM, or in AOTC, Jar Jar is the legate for the Gungans in the Senate!]). Cause of the Senates potentially unlimited and large membership, the Senate in whole is an almost impossibly unwieldy structure for getting work done. That's why most of the real government is performed by the Senate's councils, committees and commissions. The daily business of the Senate proper is primarily speechmaking and public debate. When the senate meets as a committee of the whole, it is referred to as the New Republic Assembly.
? Councils are appointed bodies with the autonomous decision-making and appropriation authority over some segment of government operations outside the Senate proper, f.e. The Defence Council overseeing the navy. The most powerful members of the Senate are disproportionately represented on the senate's councils. ? Committees are elected bodies with the authority to administer various aspects of Senate operations, including the general budget. They are semi-autonomous; in the event of a unanimous committee vote, the approval of the senate-in-whole is not required, but it may override a less-than-unanimous committee decision with a three-to-five majority. ? Commissions are voluntary bodies with advisory capacity only. They may prepare reports on issues of concern for presentation to the President of the Senate, the First Administrator, the First Admiral, or to the general membership; they may as well schedule and conduct hearings, or contract for independent research.
Chief of State: (President, Chancellor, etc.) A chief of state is elected by a three-to-five majority of the Senators, and he/she/it serves as well as Commander-in-chief of the Fleet. To recall a president, the senate needs a majority vote, after a petition of no confidence by a three-to-five majority of the Ruling, or Inner Council, or by ? of the primary members of the senate. In case of a unanimous vote, the Ruling Council can block the election of a new president. The Council consists of the chairmen of the senate councils and the President of the Senate. The Chief of State can at every time select any member of the Council, to conduct the president's business of the senate in his/her absence from that body. In case of incapacitation, incommunicado or death of the president, the chairman of the ministry council is first in line of succession (followed by defence, commerce and justice, in that order) and becomes acting president. The Ministry Council elects a new president from any former presidents, the current Minister of State or any former Minister of State.
The General Ministry: This is the non-military bureaucracy of the NR. It is organized into several large permanent Ministries, smaller task-oriented service Agencies, and various semi-independent Institutes. The various senate councils have oversight and financing authority over the corresponding Ministries. The Cabinet consists of the heads of the various Ministries, and is headed by the First Administrator. This body is the link between the Chief of State and the Ministries. The First Administrator is appointed by the Ministry Council with the approval of the Chief of State from a list of nominees, made by the president of the Senate. He heads the NR General Ministry and reports to the Chief of State.
The Court of Justice: The members of this body are selected by the Senate Justice Council from a list of nominees, presented by the president of the Senate. The First Justice is elected by the other members of the Court from among their number. Nominally independent, the power of the Court of Justice is limited by its narrowly defined jurisdiction: to review charges of violations of the Charter by members or by the other branches of the NR's government. The Court of Justice doesn't serve as the court of last appeal for ordinary civil and criminal cases; rather they are settled by local judicial authorities on member worlds.
The New Republic Defence Force: (= Navy, Fleet, etc.) This is the military arm of the NR. It operates several full fleets, each consisting of hundreds of warships, transports and other vessels, divided into battlegroups and taskforces, in addition to ground troop divisions and starfighter wings. Fleet bureaucracy is handled by Fleet Command, the Intelligence section, the Technology section and the Quartermaster. The Minister of Defence serves now as Supreme Commander and is appointed by the Defence Council with the approval of the President of the Senate. He heads the Defence Force, reports to the Chief of State and serves at his/her pleasure.
The New Republic died when the Invaders captured the capital planet Coruscant and Chief of State Borsk Fey?lya killed himself along the Imperial Palace and the Data Towers with a bomb. Afterwards the surviving fractions of the Republic fought for themselves, some even forming a new republic, but in the turmoil of the darkest hour of the invasion, new hope emerged. While the military branch of the former Republic founded inofficially a new Rebel Alliance, living the Dream, and fighting back, the political branch reorganized, and will be formed into a new galaxy enspanning government, called Galactic Federation of Free Planets (see GFFA section).

Chicken go cluck cluck, cow go moo, piggy go oink oink how bout you?
Name/Model MC40a Light Calamari Cruiser Designer/Manufacturer Mon Calamari Combat Designation Light Capital Cruiser Length 500 meters Crew 3723 Starfighter Capacity One Squadron
This was a Mon Calamari starship design which was a smaller version of the MC80a cruiser. Like all Mon Calamari starships, each MC40a was unique. A smaller series of Mon Calamari starship, the MC40a contains all the Mon Calamari grace and functionality. Most light cruisers measure 500 meters in lengths, but are similarly equipped with redundant systems. Built by the amphibious Mon Calamari of the planet of the same name, these ships are designed specifically for a cre of Mon Calamari officers and technicians, but they can be refitted at some difficulty to accomodate crews of other species.
Name/Model MC80a Calamari Star Cruiser Designer/Manufacturer Mon Calamari Combat Designation Capital Cruiser Length 1200 meters Crew 5402 (668 officers, 4734 enlisted) Starfighter Capacity Six Squadrons (2 X-Wing, 3 Y-Wing, 1 A-Wing) Other Craft 5 Lambda-class Imperial Shuttles 2 Modified YT-1300 Light Freighters Weapons 48 Taim & Bak XV9 Turbolasers 20 ArMek SW-7 Ion Batteries 6 Phylon-Q7 Tractor Beam Projectors
Built by the Mon Calamari for the original purpose of being a luxury cruiser, the MC80a was transformed into a combat starship when the Mon Calamari saw the need to defend themselves and joined the Rebel Alliance. The MC80a was the largest standard-production Mon Calamari combat spaceship, second only to the single customized cruiser named Home One, until the slightly larger MC90 was produced. The MC80a is one of the few starships that can challenge an Imperial Star Destroyer, though it will usually take more than one MC80a to defeat and ISD.
Name/Model MC90a Heavy Cruiser Designer/Manufacturer Mon Calamari Combat Designation Capital Cruiser Length 1255 meters Crew 5860 Starfighter Capacity Six Squadrons Other Craft 5 Lambda-class Imperial Shuttles 2 Modified YT-1300 Light Freighters V-Wings Weapons 75 Taim & Bak XV9 Turbolasers 30 ArMek SW-7 Ion Batteries 8 Phylon-Q7 Tractor Beam Projectors 6 Concussion Missile Launchers
This was the first truly military starship designed by the Mon Calamari. They were more modular than the MC80-series, designed to be more consistent with other, non-MC-class starships. The ship's displays were given multiple wavelength settings so that other species could read them. The MC90 had an improved drive system, increased shielding, and better maneuverability. The power generators were upgraded, and interior cargo space was expanded for carrying more starfighters. The Defiance was the first MC90 to see action, during the first Battle of Calamari. These 1,255-meter ships were manned by 5,860 crewmen and 605 gunners, and could transport up to 1,700 troops. They were armed with 75 turbolaser batteries, 30 ion cannon batteries, 8 tractor beam projectors, and 6 proton torpedo/missile tubes.

Vonne Zhbur sat rigidly in the small briefing chamber, practically bored to tears. She kept an amused, interested look plastered on her face as her fingers moved to play with her elaborate robe hemwork. The newest Republic Chief of State was going over ceremony protocol and how-too's-- something that remained the same, no matter what kind of initiation ceremony was taking place.
Several patrons in the back bustled around, allowing Vonne the momentary respite of tearing her eyes away from the New Republic leader to look at something else for a change. When the din in back settled down, everyone's attention turned to the front of the room again-- all at once. It was a creepy sort of "politician radar" between the seventeen members of the committee that allowed them to move in eerie unison.
Over an hour and a half later, the deligates were released from the stuffy room and ordered to freshen up before their trip to the Jedi Temple. They would walk (in a ceremonial fashion) to its steps, be followed (in pure press fashion) the entire way, and be watched (of course) by almost every galactic resident.
One of Senator Zhbur's aides caught up with her, handing her a bound folder while chatting away about another casino dispute on Ord Mantell. Vonne waved her away, heading directly to her quarters where she could take a shower and change clothing. The briefing chamber wasn't well ventilated, and thus she always left feeling gross and sweaty.
Dissapearing into her private quarters in the delegation wing, she emerged a half-hour later, feeling fresh through her heavy, layered clothing. She hurried down the hallway, handing the folder back to her aide as she did so.
"Multi-tasking... I think I'm getting better at it," she thought to herself. She'd just completed reading the file and filling out the report form on the back as she changed. She smiled carefully to herself, arriving in the grand fellowship hall. It was easy for her to meld in with the rest of her counterparts.
With the Chief of State at their head, and an unnecessarily large platoon of guards puddled in their wake, the train moved towards the Jedi Temple.

The walls of the coridor seemed to contract around Jerek, as though to crush the life out of him. It was only his imagination, but he saw this alot. He constantly saw images from his passed flashed before his eyes, but he had learned to repress them. Still, he saw things like these often and still hadn't found a way to supress them. So the only thing he could do was ignore them and get on with life. Maybe one day he would get therapy, but he found too many excuses not to.
Reaching the door to his quarters, he unlocked it and entered the living area. It wasn't large, but it wasn't too small either. And he liked this one. It was fairly close to the hanger, so he could quickly get to his ship to go into battle or do what ever his orders were. He never mixed withthe rest of the squadron, though they didn't mind, thinking they understoood from his history. Or atleast what their rumors said about his history. Few people really knew.
He took off his flight suit and took a shower, washing away a bit of the stress he always seemed to be carrying. Steppping out, he dried himself and put on a clean set of clothing, going out to work on his B-Wing fighter. It needed a few adjustments, and though the mechanics could do that, he prefered to do it himself, working hard to keep jis mind off other things. He brought along another flight suit, just in case he was called out to fly, which oftened happened when he worked on his fighter because he worked on it so much. Many of his adjustments were redundant, but maybe it was all this work he did on it that made his fighter the one in best condition.
Looking out the hanger bay, he noticed a large procession of people heading towards the Jedi Temple. Politicians...Heh, what are they doing now? No matter, I'll find out on the news later, he thought to himself. He didn't have much respect anymore for politicians, but then, he really didn't care about them either. He turned back to his mind blanking work and continued his pointless adjustments.
He looked up and noticed an officer heading over to him, as well as other pilots who were heading towards their own fighter craft. Jerek closed the access panel he had open and got up, walking over to the officer who was obviously heading towards him. "Sir," he said crisply to the officer, giving him a salute. The officer returned the salute and said, "You have orders to take off as soon as possible. I'm sure you saw the officials leaving to head towards the Jedi Temple. Your squadron is to go out and provide a guard for them in the skies above them. That is all." The officer turned around swiftly and left the hanger. Jerek turned around and headed towards his military fighter, one that liiked like some sort of cut up x-Wing, though it performed like a dream. The M-wing, the latest successor to the X-wing, was the latest craft employed in the Republic navy.
The entire squadron recieved permission to take off and they headed out, towards the large group heading for the Jedi Temple.

Standing in front of the Senate building was an amazing thing. He had been to Coruscant previously, but every time he came, he felt the need to stand here. Maybe it was just the life of the New Republic, the life of it's billions of inhabitants. It was an amazing feeling and it had, once again, made him forget why he was here.
Well, if I have no buisness here and no leads toward any kind of slaving, I suppose I could visit the Jedi Temple.
The Jedi Temple was the one place in the Galaxy he felt he belonged. Not even his home planet of Nar Shaddaa gave him the feeling of home like the Jedi Temple. It only made him feel more bitter. So he gathered himself, hitched a ride on a transport, and went to the Jedi Temple.

Alron left his small speeder at the visitors parking spaces and walked over to the visitor enterance of the always impressive senate building. Once he had reached the large doors, which slid open before him, he looked around for a second, then walked further inside.
Once inside he came into the large enterance hall, where he had to report to the Visitors desk to state his business.
"Hello Mylady, I am master Alron from the jedi temple... Unfortunatly, I have terrible news to bring on this beautifull day... I need to arrange a meeting with the chancellor, or any high republican that is here at the moment. A horrible disaster struck the Talus capital during the celebrations, maybe you have heard about it. And the attackers were... disturbing. My droid has images from the attack... I barely survived and am probably one of the few who did. Can you reach the chancellor and ask to let me in?"
Alron put his ID card with the jedi tag on the table to proof where he came from. He realized his wounded body and ripped clothes were not the best suit to have a meeting with a high republican in, but there was no other way now, it was urgent
"I will attempt to reach the chancellor, or another person if the chancellor is abcent, sir. But shouldn't you get some healing first?.. or some new clothing?.."
"Nah, I'm used to it... I have no time for such things now, the matter is more urgent then my life, madam. Thank you for your help" Alron smiled to the lady as she attempted to contact the chancellor. He rubbed a wound on his arm a bit while looking trough the big enterance hall, and all the statues and paintings from all over the galaxy hanging in it. He saw a recent addition from a Talus artist... probably a dead man now, he tought...

Aezon looked up at the large building. In all of his time in Dantooine he had never seen such a marvelous building. He had always dreamed of atleast seeing the Senate building through a mere mirror but standing before it was an honor he had not expected to revieve. He bowed his head and smiled.
"I can't believe that this is all happening so fast. First being accepted into the Jedi and now one of my other dreams, the Senate Building."
Aezon then headded back to the Jedi temple with one last glance at the large building. He would be back soon. But when he came back, he would do everything in his power to enter and examine the wonderful structure within the building. He continued on into the Jedi temple and took a long sigh.

Three attendants followed Syone into the entrance hall. "Lady Syone, please- You've been requested-"Her temper was flaring but only her eyes were a window into that furrious rage. ...not even a day back and already the vultures come... "I am busy. Would you PLEASE excuse me?" She said politely but it seemed more liek a command.
Two of the attendants stopped and turned on their heels, though one remained persistant. "I was intructed not to leave without a reply, M'lady. Please." Lor rubbed her brow as she came to a halt in the middle of the empty entrance. Art stood about the hall though Lor had never loved the place there was always a peace about it. Soothing. But it didn't help. "Can it not wait? There are more pressing matter for the Cahncellor to deal with then dinner invitations and nights out with supporters. Whether you believe it or not this isn't a bloody popularity contest and I would appreaciate it if you would leave at this moment." The long green robes drifted off her body elegantly though they didn't hide the feminine frame beneath. "Please." "M'lady-" "I will contact him within the hour. Will that suffice?" The attendent nodded and turned on his heel to leave the hall.
Striding elegantly up to the desk she barely noticed the man in ragged clothes and blood until she was standing beside him. "Forgive me for the intrusion, but I wish to speak with the Chacellor.."

"So it seems I am not the only one who wishes that... let's hope the chancellor has time for so many visitors... and still some time for a mere jedi with some urgent information I must ask, what is your role in the senate? I prefer to speak the chancellor, but due to the urge of the matter, any high senator would suffice right now. I have terrible news to report that both the senate and the people of the republic have to now... It will kill most of the festivities regarding the 3th celebration of the ending of the convergerence... It might quite scare our citizens..."
Alron smiled at the new attendants, but his eyes roll back to the floor within a few seconds, starting to stare into the emptiness. More and more Alron starts to realize what happened... the death caused was more then he'd ever seen in his long life as a jedi, and the one who caused it was the last he expected to do this.. He knew Maniac had ideas of neutrality, but this seemed not even close to neutral... this were acts he'd only see Sith or other scum preform.. Not a jedi master, or neutral master..
Not Maniac.

Lor eyed the Jedi with caution. She'd never completely trusted them, with her knowledge of their 'mind manipulating' abilities the Senator had always felt... uneasy. "I am Senator Syone. Unfortunetly I doubt I am what you're looking for. I know the Chancellor but I hardly think I am the one to inform him of such news second hand. It should come from you if it is as dire as you say."
((Question... who IS the Chancellor?))

"Well then, I'll just have to wait as well I suppose... let's hope nothing else happens in that time.." Alron looked around at the statues and all a bit more, but couldn't really focus on them.. too much memories of the disaster still flew trough his head..
