A low hiss radiated in the throat of a very annoyed cub. Despite the fact that she was a tough little thing, she was born last out of all her siblings, and they teased her because of that. Not that they would get away with it though, as she had been in many fights with them already, with baby teeth and baby claws. For such a tiny creature, she was very c**k-sure of herself.
Still hissing, she trudged back towards the den, having run out to escape punishment for almost ripping one of her sibling's ears off. Murky black eyes narrowed, she looked around for her mother, the only member of her family that she actually loved and respected.

The petite white lioness was sprawled out in the den, idly licking her paws and running them over her muzzle to wash traces of blood away. She had had to help Cam stop the bleeding on his ear after Ibilisi decided it was a nice chew toy. Part of her knew that she should be angry with her daughter for that, but the majority was proud of Ibi for standing up for herself, and potentially teaching her much more timid brother a lesson in defense.
She lifted her scarlet eyes as Ibi approached, and a flicker of a smile spread across her lips. "Hello, daughter," she said in her raspy voice, though there was a definite warm tone to it. "I see that you had a go at Camulos." Her voice was level and expression neither praising nor scolding as she waited for Ibi to speak, curious as to what the cub had to say. Either way, Ibi was going to be praised (although was a slight warning about respecting her siblings), but Roho wanted the cub to have a chance to explain herself first.

When Ibilisi's eyes fell on her mother, she flinched ever so slightly. She had never drew blood before, this was her first time, and she was worried that her mother would scold her for it. Her worries didn't stop her walking into the den full of confidence though. After all, she was her mother's daughter.
"He was picking on me again..." She replied, not quite making eye contact with her mother just yet. "He had to be taught a lesson..." It was then that she looked up, staring directly at Roho as she did so, looking for any signs of anger. Her wrath was one thing, but her mother's was something else.

Roho studied her daughter for a few moments, allowing the tiniest flicker of a grin across her lips. Cam was picking on her? That was new, and she was pleased. The boy was nothing like them, and Roho had almost doubted that he was her son at all, he was so soft. Today was a day of good news, and her eyes flashed approvingly. "I see," she said simply. "Well, you know that I don't approve of you attacking your siblings like that. Though they may not act it sometimes, they are still of the highest caliber, for they are of my - our - blood."
She paused for a moment before continuing, "However, I am extremely proud of you for standing up for yourself and not taking any flack from anyone, even your siblings. Of course, if you ever try to do that with me, you'll have something else coming," she added with dry humour, her eyes sparkling with amusement.
"So, Ibilisi!" she said with a great yawn, exposing her long fangs. The lioness rose to her paws and strode to the red cubs side, leaning down to lick her head a few times affectionately. "I have a rather important question for you. Seeing as you are clearly my daugher..." There was a rumble of a purr in her voice, "...I think it's about time you find another way to put out your... energy." She lifted her paws and quickly tapped it against Ibi's tail, nudging her out of the den. "Perhaps today we'll try hunting?

Ibilisi would've let out a sigh of relief, if she wasn't so confused. Yet again, her mother suprised her by praising her violent actions rather than scolding them. Although she did tell her off a little, it was insignificant compared to the pride that seemed to be exuded in her facial expression.
A small smirk graced her face. "If they really are of our blood, they would know better than to cross me...they would never dream of crossing you, and I should be no different..." It was a bold statement indeed, especially considering her size and her current status within the family. There was no getting away from the fact that she was the youngest. With her mother's support though, she was sure she could knock some sense into every single one of her siblings.
She smiled and bowed graciously as Roho went on to say how proud she was. If this was the kind of praise she got simply for biting Cam's ear, imagine how it would be recieved if she ripped it off completely. That was certainly something to keep in mind for the future.
Ibilisi stood proud as her mother went to her side, although she wasn't very fond of being licked. Her eyes lit up though at the mention of hunting, causing her to nod her head vehemently. "Yes!" Was her only reply, before she bolted out of the den, skidding to a halt to wait for her mother. "I'll not let you down mother..." She muttered, with a slightly wicked grin on her face.

Roho gave a rare, rasping laugh at Ibi's first statement. What a fine daughter she had! For a brief moment, she wondered if she made the right decision by appointing Kaihdin heir, but she shook it away quickly. That girl was destined for great things, even if she wasn't picking up as quickly as her red daughter. Twitching her lips up into a grin as the cub raced out of the den, she called out, "Hold on, Ibilisi!" She smoothly loped after her daughter, her red eyes bright.
"As eager as you may be to rip into the little vermin, there are a few things you need to learn first," she said brightly. "I've seen you sneak up on your siblings before, and you're quite good at it, but creeping up on sleeping lion cubs isn't quite the same as creeping up on alert field mice." With a grin she added, "No, Ibi, we're not going to be hunting the bigger game today. It'll be good to practice on something smaller, and then move onto the bigger and more worthy game."
Coming up to the cub's side, she dropped into a hunting crouch, poising almost perfectly still. "This is the underlying concept of hunting," she said, muscles quivering under her coat. "If you can't perfect the crouch, you won't get anywhere. Of course, I have no doubts that you'll master it with ease." There was pride in her voice as she straightened up.
"Now, try to crouch like I just did."

Ibilisi waited for her mother to join her, before looking out over the land. She let out a little snicker as Roho mentioned her previous sneak attacks on her siblings. They were the easiest targets imaginable where she was concerned. Her ears drooped however at the thought of going for prey that was almost as puny as her siblings. "Don't you think I can handle the bigger prey Mother?" It was unlike her to question Roho's reasoning, but at the mention of hunting, the first thing that came to mind were zebras and deer. Not field mice.
She shrugged it off quickly though as Roho crouched down. Although she wasn't keen on hunting tiny prey, she was very eager to learn new hunting techniques. She copied her mother as best she could, her little legs and body allowing her to lower herself almost completely to the ground. It was once she was crouched that she realised that it was actually quite difficult to hold the position, as her muscles started to quiver and ache a little. If this was the most important part of hunting though, she would have to perfect it.

Roho smirked at Ibi's complaints. "I know that someday even the mightiest zebra will quiver in fear at the sight of you, but as you learn the techniques, it'll be best to practice on easier prey."
As Ibi dropped down, Roho eyed her, her expression betraying no emotion. Even as the cub's muscles quivered and there was a slight pain in her eyes, Roho did not tell her to release the pose. After all, if there was no strain, then Ibi would never grow stronger. She let her daughter struggle for a moment before saying the magic words - "Okay, that's good. You can relax now."
She grinned once more, doubly pleased with her daughter. "It's only a start, but a good one nonetheless. As you practice more, you'll find that you can hold it longer without that ache rising in your muscles. So!" She flicked her tail and lifted her nose to the air, whiskers twitching slightly. There was the faintest trace of mouse scent, and she blinked approvingly. Perfect. "Now, daughter, try and see if you can detect the scent of a mouse anywhere nearby." This challenge was a bit tougher, but she did had that infallible confidence in her daughter.

Ibilisi grinned evily at the thought of all prey dropping dead at her feet from fear, just by looking at her. Size would not be an issue once she had learnt all the techniques her mother had to offer. These pleasant little thoughts strengthened her pose ever so slightly, but she was more than happy to release it when her mother told her to.
As she rose up, she shook out each paw one at a time, trying to shake the cramp out of each leg so that they could move on to the next task. Roho seemed pleased with her though, so the pain must've meant that she was doing it correctly. "Thank you Mother..."
As her mother revealed the next challenge, Ibilisi leaned forward on her front paws, her neck and head extended as far as she could manage so that she could better sniff the air. Her head barely reached over the tall grass that covered the land, so it was extra difficult trying to pick out the scent of a mouse from the over-powering scents of grass and flowers.
A low growl radiated in her throat as she struggled to find the scent. All she could think about was that there was no way she could let Roho down. It was then that her nose caught the scent of something new, although it was very faint, as if it was very far away. How she would track down the owner of the scent she didn't know, but at least she had found it. "It's coming from that way..." She said, motioning towards the East.

Roho's lips curled back in a smile. Perfect. "Correct," she rasped, flicking her tail. "Now, my daughter, we're going to track the mouse down. First, however, we need to practice pouncing. That mouse is a good distance away, so we won't disturb it... yet." She smirked. "Here's what we're going to do. I'm going to head west. You wait here until I'm out of sight, and then you're going to track me down. Now, I'll be expecting it, plus you're only a fraction of my size, but it's still good practice. When you find me, pounce. After this, I'll find a... less obvious target for you to practice on. Then, I'll take you to catch your first prey."
She looked quietly at Ibilisi for a moment before stalking off, her muscles rippling under her coat.

This was it. This was where she would prove to her mother that she was above and beyond every one of her siblings. This was where she would prove that she had what it takes to follow in her mother's pawprints.
Eyes narrowed, she waited for Roho's pale body to disappear among the tall grass, leaving her alone with just her thoughts and her determination to succeed. Funnily enough, her mother didn't actually leave visible pawprints. She was either too light, or she had learnt how to mask them. Either way, this was a task that Ibilisi would have to work very hard at.
She started off in the direction that her mother had gone, thinking that that would obviously be the best place to start. Once she herself was hidden among the tall grass, she repeated what she had done to track down the scent of the mouse. Her mother's scent was much easier to find, since she was bigger. Also, it was a scent that Ibilisi had come to recognise, just incase she had to make a run for it after doing something evil to one of her siblings. Once she had locked on to Roho's scent, she moved onwards.

Roho tried to make it tricky for her daughter, wanting to push her to the edge of her talents. She loved all her cubs, perhaps more than she expected to, but Ibilisi was something special. The cub had the burning desire to learn, to grow strong, to be powerful, and it was something that Roho admired greatly.
The lioness zigzagged after a few meters of walking straight, finally veering off to the right. She continued forward and then doubled back, pausing for a moment. Finally she decided to try and break her scent by leaping instead of walking, so in a rather undignified way, she leapt forward, covering a good distance. Then she leapt again, and again, her scent becoming sparse and choppy over her trail.
Deciding that was enough, she walked in a straight line for several more meters before lying down, wrapping her tail around her haunches, waiting.

Ibilisi was quite pleased with her tracking abilities, until things started to go wrong. She hadn't banked on Roho changing direction, although it should've been obvious that her mother wouldn't make it easy for her. Teeth clenched, she took in a deep breath before continuing on in the direction that she was 90% sure that Roho had gone in. The 10% of her that was doubtful frustrated her deeply, but the last thing she wanted to do was lose her temper.
After a while of walking, she came to a stop. The scent had suddenly disappeared, as if someone had took a huge chunk out of the air and placed it elsewhere. Not able to hide her anger, she hissed, in an attempt to let out some of her rage before she went on. There was no way Roho could've poofed into thin air, so somehow, Ibilisi would have to recapture the scent.

For a brief moment, Roho considered making a noise to help her daughter out, but she quickly decided against it. She felt confident in Ibilisi's abilities without any hints. The lioness yawned, resting her chin on her paws.

Soon after suddenly losing the scent, Ibilisi realised what must've happened. Her mother must've quickly changed direction, or jumped from that position. Head high as she started sniffing again, she re-caught the scent. Grinning, she broke into a run.
As the scent got stronger, she slowed to a walk. Murky black eyes spotted a white figure laying down among the grass. It must've been Roho. Proud, she continued onwards. "I knew I could find you Mother..." She smirked, knowing that her mother would be very pleased with her progress.
