I know, doesn't that make you so angry?

---I know i have many active topics right now, so i apolgize, please delete this if you would like.---

But this girl who i know who says she isn't "visual kei", yet dresses and dyes her hair to the style of it, and who is a friend of mine started insulting me today.

This was our conversation:

Am: I can't believe you are going to the Dir En Grey concert, that still gets me so mad.

Me: Why? I have liked Dir En Grey for a while...whats the big deal? [about 5 years]

Am: Because you are a loooooliTA.

Me: Listen V.K. [nickname i gave her] I can go to the concert, just beause i am a lolita...

Am: But you can't be a lolita...you are a wannabe, thats all you will ever be.

Me:...*trying to not start a fight or anything rash*

Am: Face it you can never be lolita, You're not Asian.

My good friend who sits with me at the lunch table saw i was hurt and asked if i would go by her a fanta.

What do you guys think? I mean, we are all not Asian, its obvious, but what do i say to her? Doesn't it get you mad? Shes not even Asian and is trying to tell me that she isn't into "V.K."

Considering Lolita was inspired by Rococo/Victorian fashion, and that Japanese Lolita's tend to make themselves as white as possible, I've always found that view incredibly funny. ._.'

Just tell her youre great-great-great(etc) grandwhatever was Japanese, anyone dim enough to think your race can dictacte whether or not you can properly take part in a fashion should be dim enough to believe that. =P

*cracks up* I use that alllllll the time. XD People ask me why I'm into Japanese stuff and I've just taken to telling them my grandma's grandma was Japanese and I'm trying to reconnect with my long lost heritage. My peers think it's quite noble.

I think they're quite dim. 3nodding *German/Polish*

But people are dumb with that "you can't do that cause you're not Asian" crappu. *shakes head* If I dressed in Wa-Loli everyday, I could see someone getting that impression. But WHAT in Buddha's sock is so Asian about frills and lace?! It's a billion percent European!!!!!! gonk

Thats really sad!

I don't have that problem- hardly anyone where i live knows what it is anyway and i dont wear loli on a day to day basis. I dress up as loli on special occassions or when it is called for. But which ever day I still feel lolita at heart! Sometimes i make huge mistakes but i always appologise!

You are you and if your a Lolita and proud of it then thats all that matters!
Don't let someone like that get to you. They are just not worth it. Just forget about it and focus on how you are and what you do.

Clothing doesnt have a race or country surprised

You can wear whatever you want to no matter where the fashion started

It's the same as saying "you can't be Emo because your hair isn't black" =~=

Besides, lolitas didn't even start in Japan, it's all France based,
most people I talked to about lolita didn't connect it to the japanese colture at all [though most my friends aren't into Anime and such... does it still count?].

She should just be happy you accept to be labeled, rather than fight with
whatever you SHOULD be like. Not all the white girls need to wear jeans and listen to Christina Agilera [?].

P.S.
@ Rorita.Manba, I love your little feet <3

i agree with everyone here.. Lolita is how yu see yurself.. and loving the fashion that is lolita in my opinion. Granted i may be a little new to this but i really adore the look and consider myself lolita in some aspects.

Yu should reconsider her friendship if she continues to be so mean!

Since when did being Asian meant that you could be a lolita? =/ Obviously she doesn't know that Gothic Lolita was taken from a fashion that ALL nationalities of people wore in America and other places, including Caucasian, African-American, and other nationalities. Fashion is a way of expressing yourself, not dressing a certain manner according to your nationality. I'm African-American, and if I felt like it, I would wear a kimono because I know I would look damn good in that thing. [excuse me for my language.]

Your friend must not really be a friend, to say such mean words to you. And if she's not Asian, why don't you tell her, "You are just a wannabe when it comes to Visual Kei", in the same manner, and see how she feels. =/ If my friends did something like that to me, and wasn't kidding about it, I would drop the friendship like it's hot.

Wow, just reading that made me angry! lol.

I don't like saying this, but if she's mean like that why is she your friend. Even the fake-lolita that used to be my friend was nice enough not to do crap like that. Of course, she was a true wanna-be-lolita, so logically she wouldn't make comments like that, but still. She is the most evil person I've ever met, and she never said things like that.

Your "friend" is really shallow, I think.

I know this is a big leap to make a point, but you not being able to wear lolita just because you aren't Asian is like telling an Asian he or she can't wear jeans and a tee shirt because they aren't Caucasian. Jeans and tee shirts are an American/European thing, after all.

It doesn't matter at all!
Even though your not Asian, a Lolita can be any one

WTF the hell? as my best friend says.

Everyone else has it dead on. EGL, V.K. , cosplay, none of it means you have to be asian.

the more active topics the better!

Much agreed. Fashion styles can migrate across continents and this guild is a testament to that.

Thank you guys...doesn't that bother you though. I want to tell her off, but i know that wouldn't be very nice. sweatdrop

If THAT'S how it works, then really, the ASIANS aren't really lolita!
I'm as white as white can be, and lolita is possibly the whitest fashion on the planet! It's all based off European fashion, with the exception of Wa-loli, so how is that anything Asian?

I think race has absolutely nothing to do with whether you are or you aren't.
