What are your thoughts on christian video games?

EX: The new Left Behind game that came out not that long ago. Is it merely fantasy entertainment for the masses or a potential blackeye for christians? I recently read in a christian published paper some bad things about it. Of course the big thing being it could make christians look terroistic. Running around with weapons while stating God is Lord. That & the books the game is based on weren't to highly looked upon in the same paper about the game. (That's another topic all together.)

Other games are a PS2 Bible game. Haven't played it, yet it looks interesting. I play Victory at Hebron myself. Based on the Redemption CCG. (collectable card game for those not into ccgs) There are other christian video games out. Most I've seen are for the PC.

So what does everyone think on this? Should the christian community get involved in further game making or stay away? Do you play any of these games or others not mentioned?

Thats a good question. I actually have only heard about Christian games, I haven't really seen or played any. I wonder if its because they are religous, or if its because none of them were any good. I think Christian games are a great idea, if they are done well. If you are going to do something do it well. Also, you have to be very carefully how you run the story; if you get the theology wrong then you'll lose your fan base. Because of this i'm not surprised that there have not been any really successfull Christian games.

Its just to hard to make an apealing game that fits the bibles teachings to a tee, in fact its just hard in general to fit anything with the bible to a tee. I've always wanted to create a Christian video game and when I thought about it I knew it was going to be a lot of work to make it a good game. I was thinking about doing something similar to the Left Behind series, but as biblical as I could get it. There are just so many variables into making a game like this work that you can't just make it with little effort. But I hope to see someone rise to the challenge one day.

I haven't played it but in genuine concern I did look at the bible game... It seems to be a series of bible themed mini games and not a game in and of itself. Like Mario Party but based on stories and scenes taken from the bible... of course this was just froma basic examination of the back of the cover and some "hear say" at that local game stop.

I thought about buying the PS2 Bible game, but then didn't. It looked kinda fun, but kinda wasn't a good enough reason for me to blow my money on it.

I dunno... I like Black and I am afraid that few christian words were passed on those marine coms...

Example:

"Kellar, Get back in your F_in' possition!"

"Kellar! You F_ing !@#$!@, !@$#$!#!"

"Kellar, Get that F_ing RPG before they bone our _ss with it!"

I'm not really sure about Christian games, it might be cool if you come down from Heaven to fight off thousands of hell spawns, but making a game about the stories of the Bible, not really a good idea, you should just think of the idea in your mind, because, I don't think anyone wants to accidently let Moses die xp

I played Xbox live on Halo2... If you want to play with and/or against egotistical, a**l maniacs that is the perfect place. They all think that they are perfect and that you are the one that screwed up.

After a while of being cursed out I simply turned on everyone (even my team) and started just killing and attacking. I got alot of points and no one got the flag. I play FPS not often enough to be a master but I am good at em.

My biggest problem with halo is the radar. I tend to play games that don't have a radar so when I have the ability to see where the enemy is I get jumpy... I would spinn around and fire at nothing because someone was on a level below me and they showwed up on the radar.

I'm not going to judge the new Left Behind game until I've had a chance to play it...but I haven't heard the best things about it....
Is it true that in the game Christians are encouraged to killed non-Christians for points?

But I definitely would love to see many more Christian options available for people to play. When I start having kids, they're going to want to play video games, and I'm going to want to have positive options available for them. (though I'm sure veggie tales makes a mean video game! wink )

I have always wanted to make my own videogames, and I have always thought about making a Christian game similar to the Final Fantasy series, like:

The Protaganist("good guy")
In a battle, instead of using black magic, etc, the person could pray to God, and they would be healed, or use angel feathers, or something. Maybe if they were in trouble, they could summon an angel to aid them in battle against the forces of evil.

The Antagonist("bad guy")
When you fight an enemy, they'd be a demon, anti-christian, and their attacks would be demonic, such as summoning ghouls and imps to try to kill you.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I remember that there were many games on the Super NES that were Christian.
I think if they are made and played with biblical principles it can be used to open the eyes of people to Christ.
