I've honestly never met anyone else who wasn't religious who was also pro-life. I'm sure that most of the people here are pro-life for religious reasons but I'm curious about other people who aren't and still believe that a fetus is a person. After a lot of thinking, it came to me that no matter if a fetus can think or feel it will eventually grow up. The child one carries or fathers will someday grow up. They will make friends, draw pictures for their parents, daydream, learn valuable lessons, and someday perhaps have children of their own. If one aborts, all of this will never happen. I don't think I could live with myself if I aborted. It would just be far too selfish, and it would also deny myself the love of a child that if given a chance would do all this for me and more. I'm wondering if other people here feel the same way. Thanks for reading!

I'm Pagan, but I don't really consider myself religious. I'm more spiritual than anything. Le Veuve Zin is an atheist and she's in the guild, I'm sure she'll post once she's around and sees this thread. Other than that there are a couple here and there that poke in, but it's namely us.
Welcome to the guild by the way!

Thanks for the welcome! biggrin I posted in intro a bit before making my own thread, and read around. I like this place, it seems logical and friendly. Pagan religion doesn't seem to have an official stance on pro-life issues, maybe because the resurgance of it is fairly new in the Western world as is Government-facilitated abortion. I recall a lot of pregnancy and parenting oriented customs and traditions, though, and the idea that life is sacred. I have no issue with religious or faithful convictions at all and I'd welcome input from anyone with them as well.

My beliefs centre around law moreso than anything else. I don't think my religion has a stance on abortion actually. XD
I'm glad for a new face though!

My atheism is why I am pro-life, if I was religious it probably wouldn't bother me so much.

King Seth My atheism is why I am pro-life, if I was religious it probably wouldn't bother me so much. This is the same thing The Raving Atheist (blogger) says about his reason for being prolife, because since he doesn't believe in an after life or reincarnation he believes that life is even more valuable and should be protected

Just so infuriating listening to atheists drone on from a pro-choice viewpoint, slightly disgusts me.

I'm a recovering catholic, as the button I got from "Little Mysteries" says.
I used to be religious, but after a while, I just didn't get anything from religion. Also, I was gay, so a lot of what I was told fed my self-esteem problems.
And I'm pro-life because all people deserve life, and a chance to live their lives the way they want, and it's indecent to take that away from someone just because you don't think they qualify as a person.
Yeah. Seriously, guys, it's not cool. And putting it under a blanket statement of "protecting women's rights" annoys me. gonk

In general, i would say my views on this are non-religious, because even if i weren't a christian, i would still be pro-life on logic alone. I mean hell, if i based it on Christianity, sure the Bible says it's wrong, but really, what's the worst that could happen? All the aborted babies would get either a free pass to heaven, or they are never given souls (depends on your views, but it hardly matters) In that case, Christians should really just not care because, as long as they don't abort, there's really no harm done. The Romans themselves had many MANY diplorable practices when Jesus walked the earth, but there's no record of him being even slightly vocal about them. In fact, the only time he took any political action, was in reguards to how people following his religion were exploiting it. (threw the money changers out of the temple)
The only reason i'm active on the pro-life front, is it's clearly a violation of civil rights, and should therefore be stopped.
Mind you i think on principle, Christians should be pro-life, and most are, but that's simply not the reason i am.

You know, I never thought about it like that. It just didn't occur to me that the unborn child would have an afterlife in the first place. But you know, you're right. Overall, the idea of an afterlife--heaven and hell alike--scares me to death and I'm happy I won't have one. But it would cut a nicer image if the child could have one. All the more reason for people never to abort. I used to be pro-choice, just because women died in backalley abortions. Eventually I realised that abortion being legal isn't the answer. The answer is better programs for poor mothers, better adoption systems and orphanages, more opportunities for parents with no money to get financial aid and jobs. The answer isn't to kill the baby.

Aufstandkind I used to be pro-choice, just because women died in backalley abortions. Eventually I realised that abortion being legal isn't the answer. The answer is better programs for poor mothers, better adoption systems and orphanages, more opportunities for parents with no money to get financial aid and jobs. The answer isn't to kill the baby. Exactly. 3nodding I used to be pro-life personally and pro-choice politically. You know, I would never choose to have an abortion but I didn't want to force that on others. That soon changed when I joined this guild and several pro-life communities online. Abortion is too much of a destructive decision unless the mothers life is at stake. I think pregnant women would less feel that they need an abortion if there were other options and support available to them.
Anyway, I've been an LDS (a.k.a. Mormon) all my life but I didn't really consider myself very religious until... a year ago? Gosh, I can't even remember how long. >.< Yea. I was sort of inactive in my church because almost all of my family members went inactive (one became a semi anti-morman). But now I'm trying my best to stay in the church and I can honestly say that I'm very happy and blessed that I did.
It always baffles me that a lot Christians are pro-choice. But since you're not very religious I won't bring that rant up if I don't need to. XD
Welcome to the guild, by the way. I'm excited to see a new face around who actually posts in here!
