A young maluess sat before the stream near the temple, her head low and her paw poised. She was getting ready to slap at a fish, pestering it to no end, keeping it in the section she had built with little dams made of sticks. This was how she spent her days most ususally, finding a particular shiny fish and bothering it until she got bored and found another. It was sort of a hobby, no matter how odd or cruel it seemed. She didn't need to visit any shrines, for her young mind had yet to be captured by any specific god or goddess. Instead, she was here while older Malu prayed and made offerings, and at the end of the day, she would go home with them. Best not to walk down the path to the Nature Pack alone, after all.
Her little tail waggled as she smacked at the innocent fish, sending it gliding to the center of the stream. Starbuck waddled into the cool water, feeling the light current massage her side. The flow of the stream interupted her plans for a while, capturing her attention. Currents were so important. Who was she to disrupt one with her stick dams? If she had been a Malu of morals, she would've knocked the sticks loose, but of course, she wasn't. She had no respect for anything, truely, and didn't care to follow instructions of others. Instead, she went back to hunting down that pesky fish.

Breathing in the fresh scent of the stream, it was amazing how something so simple could give such a great ammount of pleasure and satisfaction to her lungs. Opening her caramel hue'd orbs, the chocolate and golden coloured maluess strolled along the riverbend, indulging in her walk she took every day around this time. Satisfying any urge or desire was her specialty, enjoying every minute of the warm and gratifying feelings it gave her.
Tilting her head slightly as her cream locks fell over her eyes, cupid wings gave a twitter of excitement as she locked on to a little one by the stream, tormenting a fish. Oh! How she enjoyed this little darling so for not being afraid to give into temptations. Keeping her stride slow and elegant, she strode up to the femme and took a moment to look to her construction of a dam to keep the fish from escaping. "Bonjour, little one. That is quite the dam, you have a knack for it." She grinned lightly, watching asthe black and blue mauless returned to hunting the fish in the water instead of on shore.

What a sad turn of events; Starbuck was no longer alone with her fish. Her little head turned up quickly, staring at the Malu who would dare to bother her whilst she entertained herself. Much to the youngster's surprise, it was a Maluess she had yet to see. She found it a tad odd, as she spend everyday out by the stream, watching the adults come and go. Come to think of it, the delicious looking creature before her shouldn't even be out here! She should be praying, right? Isn't that what adult Malus did during the day? Isn't that what they live for? To be pathetic slaves to their gods? What a sad exsitence she would have to live some day.
As her thoughts wandered like the ever moving current, her prized fish got away. When she came to the realization that her play thing was gone, she was beyond perturbed. Snorting, she plopped her little back end down into the stream with a splash and looked up to adress the brown Maluess who had prompted this loss. And then came the compliment. For a moment, Starbuck was thrown off gaurd, not used to receiving compliments out of the blue like that. She blinked dumbly and stared; and thens he recovered. "I build them every day." Not so much a thank you, but acknowledging the compliment. She wouldn't ask for a name until a name was given.

Smiling softly as how annoyed this little one look they she had interrupted her time with the fish, her warm eyes glanced to the fish as it quickly swam away from its tormentor. Shaking her head lightly, her attention returned to the femme sit down in the stream's cool current. Out of cuiosity, she took a single step towards the stream and dipped her paw under the surface. It was slightly chilly, yet it did hold a interesting sensation compared to the sun which heated her body. Removing her paw, she gave it a flick before laying down on the shoreline; never really one for water although she was not opposed to it.
"Then you have quite the patience, little one. Much like those who worship their gods all day in the temple, although I cannot relate. Much too boring for my own tastes. My own god and I live for the moment, as silly as it may sound." Eclair mused faintly, crossing her paw over the other as she observed the child in the water. Cocking her head, she smiled, although there seemed to be a shadow of something else hidden in the corners of her lips. "May I know your name?" She inquired, before continuing "My own is Eclair. Pleasure to meet you."

Starbuck tilted her head slightly, watching the brown Maluess with mild interest. Now that her toy was gone, there was no point in staring into the stream. There was no point for the dams, either. With that lingering though, she stood and waddled over to her creations, pushing the sticks into the current, letting it's rhytmic woosh take them downriver. She watched as the took to the flow, swishing and bobbing in the cool, shallow watter. It wasn't a deep part of the stream at all. In it's center, the youngster could sit and only be so deep as her shoulder blades. Standing, she was only as deep as a bit above her stomach. Farther down, it surely grew deeper and more wild, but here it was mellow and shallow. Perfect for fish pestering.
"Eclair?" Her attention turned back to the cocoa bean Maluess. "Pretty." It wasn't entirely often that Starbuck would grace another with a compliment, and when she did the such, it was hardley acknowledged. It was more of a statement than a compliment, often one word and sort of rough around the edges. "I'm Starbuck." She paused, considering the gods and all their might. "Then wouldn't your god smite you? I thought all you adults did was pray all day. Isn't that what the gods want?" Obviously, the pup was terribley informed.

Creating a soft humm in the back of her throat, Eclair's lips curled into a smile at the compliment. Although vain, she adored any sort of compliments and was ever eager to give out her own. Flattery was in a sense indulging in one's appearence, afterall. Bowing her head ever so faintly, her rich vocals coo'ed out a, "Thank you." Before returning her vivid attention to this youth. "Starbuck is a pleasantly different name, I much enjoy it. Suits well to your unique character." Eclair praised, leanding her head down to give a lick to her paw which still had one of the cool droplets of water soaking her fur.
"Oh no no, you are mistaken." She laughed, obviously the stuck up malu of the temple had already corrupted her youthful mind with such nonsence. "Every god is different, Starbuck. While some may require that, others do not. My god, is the God of Indulgence. What makes him happy is that Malu do what they desire, what they feel is right. Give into temptation, such as how you like to play with the fish. It is how we life our life, and hope others can too." Well, perhaps it was a bit sugar coated, yet Eclair only spoke highly of her god, finding no fault in what he represented to her. "My god hates praying, its a waste of time. He rather I live in the moment and show my love for him in the actions I do, and to those who I meet."

Starbuck was quite amused with Eclair now, finding her ever pressing attitude to be entertaining. She was sweet with her words, but obviously had a bite with her personality. It was almost like hiring an entertainer, except it was for free. The youngster decided to take what she could form the conversation, and even begin to play along. Lavishly complimenting the female and accepting her own compliments was a good start. "Why, thank you, sweet heart." It was slightly mocking, but she figured Eclair could handle it. "Y'know, I love your coat. It's real nice. Never seen anything like it." Oh, this game was fun.
She was a bit surprised, she had to admit, that there was more to following a god than praying. "Oh. But the adults go to the temple everyday..." She thought the rest out silently. Perhaps some gods were cruel gods, and others more kindly? Maybe some required certain types of offerings. Such as Eclair's chosen god required her to indulge herself in the goodness of life. Some must require a blood lust, as Starbuck had surely seen some gruesome sacrafices in the mouths of malu as they hiked up the stairs. These thoughts opened an entire world up to the youngster. It meant that she could truely follow a god without giving up her life.

"Of course you wouldn't, Darling, Its doubtful anyone else could pull of such a coat." She smriked, flicking her muzzle to toss the locks of hair from getting in the way of her lush eyes. She much enjoyed this new demeanor of Starbucks, much more lively then her moodyness from beforehand. Chuckling lightly, she admired her tenacity to use her own mild mockery against her, like the sour hidden amongst sweet.
"Yes, to stick themselves in a dark room four hours as they pray to outdated memorabilia of their gods. Who would want to worship something so stiff, and boring. In personal opinion, I much enjoy gods like my own, and from what I can gather, yours. It seems that your god enjoys the more fun things in life, from how much fun you were having." Eclair allowed her eyes to give a disainful roll at the mention of those other malu, yet seemed to glimmer with a enticed interest towards Starbuck's God. It was not often that she ran across someone worth her time to sit down and converse with, which made this day even more pleasantly delightful.

Starbuck smirked lightly, finding Eclair to still hold some amusement, but also hold a great annoyance. It was not with great love that she looked upon the vain creatures of the world; one who loves themself can never love any other. Then again, she wasn't really one for love, now was she. Tossing the idea out of her mind, she wiped her smirk from her maw. "I'd have to agree. Only a Maluess of your league can strut it right." Her voice was thick with amused sarcasm, though there was a fact hidden within the layers. Eclair truely was a beautiful creature, sweet on the eyes and the ears.
At the mention of her own god, Starbuck rolled her eyes. It was only a few moments ago that she was even open to the idea of becoming a follower and assimilating with the crowds. There was a faint whisper in the back of her mind, one that she had never heard before. It had been said to her in the past that the gods spoke to the Malu, and that was why the Malu followed. It was much to hard to ignore the voices in the head, and eventually one voice grew in power. "I have yet to choose a god; or a god has yet to speak to me." The whisper grew. Starbuck blinked and shook her head, recovering and returning her mind to the conversation. "I'm beginning to think that I'll like one like yours, though." The idea of becoming a follower was far more pleasent when the praying aspect was eliminated.

Eclair eyed the youth with a smirk on her maw, her warm eyes holding a layer of calculating coldness in the depths as the little one's gaze was turned away. It was strange that a god had not whispered to her yet, as Eclair was born with the voices in her head, often distracting her from anything important her parents tried to teach her. Perhaps this Malu was undesireable to the gods? Who knew, yet it was fun to speculate anyways.
Cocking her head as she looked to the sky, a smile spread on her lips as she spoke sweetly, lying through her teeth yet it was nearly impossible to tell in the way she spoke and her warm demeanor. "Thats the spirit, besides, I didn't hear my god till I was a youth, much older than you are presently. Just keep an open ear, and you might hear the whispers." Eclair smiled softly, turning her head back to Starbuck as she arose to her paws, shaking out her pelt of stray grass. "So...is pestering fish all there is to do for excitement around here?" She spoke idly, observing her surroundings.

Starbuck's little, pudgey pup's body wiggled furiousley as she spotted a tadpole. Keeping an ear open for Eclair, she stalked twoards it, much like a cat, getting ready for the pounce. Just as she reared into the air, flapping her short wings furiousley, the current swept the baby frog out of her grasp. She landed with a thud on the riverbed, dripping from just about every part of her body. A cold glare emerged in her youthful eyes, her little maw scrunching grumpily. Well, that hadn't gone to plan at all. She pushed off the stones, taking ahard slap at the water, cursing the current for all it was worth. And then came the whisper again. Her head flipped around, looking for its source, but no other Malu was with her, besides Eclair.
Shrugging the voice off for an over active imagination and anger, she shook off what water she could to look at the dark brown Maluess once more. "Pestering fish is all /I/ have to do for excitement around here." She placed a paw on her chest, over pronouncing the I for emphasis. "Some of the other pups are playing together. Like those two new scandal litters." At the thought of the new litters, she turned up her nose a tad. Four happy mothers had had pups this season, four happy, mated mothers. A mate was not up Starbuck's alley at all. If she ever had kids, which at the moment she didn't even want to think about, she'd probablly find herself a hot lookin' boyfriend from outside the temple, and then drop him like a sack o' potatos when she got bored. Suddenly, she looked at Eclair with a new gaze. From what she knew of the older Malu, they had a lot in common in that arena. "Say... You don't have a mate, right?" Though she was quite young to have such thoughts, she was rather mature for her age, and didn';t play with pups like herself. The isolation had given her more than the average youngster's time to ponder such topics.

It seemed like once again, the youth had spotted another living water dweller to pester as her mindframe became a single lane, turning and moving in for the what looked like as tadpole. Rolling her eyes slightly, it was rather chilish and primal behaviour, yet to each their own...she supposed. Turning her head at the splash, she noticed a male venture into the temple, wanting to give chase yet decided against it. She'd rather be chased, then do the work anyways. "Nice try.." Eclair spoke, turning her attention back to Starbuck.
Then, something really caught her ear. Scandal. It had to be one of her favorite words, other than seduce. "Oh? I have not heard of such litters. I wasn't aware anyone had been blessed with the pitter patter of paws." Yet despite the sweet statement, Eclair made a rather foul face at the thought. Why give up her fun to be tied down with one male? Blinking, she turned her caramel gaze down to the child, dripping head to toe...yet she was suprised at how mature she was. If Eclair was ever to have a child, they better turn out to be like this one. "Of course not. Why would I associate myself with such tedious malu. I have yet to find a single male who does not spend his life at an altar."

Starbuck's gaze followed Eclair's towards the male entering the temple for a moment, but she lost interest quickly. She was not entirely interested in males yet, not having reached that stage of her life. It was almost certain, however, that she would end up much like Eclair in her interests, and never settle for a single Malu. With a bitter glare at the current, she thought of her own mother, and how she had run off with some male soon after her birth, leaving her to fend for herself on the steps of the temple. It was a dirty business, running away like that, and something the tiny Maluess vowed never to do. If she were ever to become a mother, she would find someway to make a commitment to her brood and not become a clone of her mother.
"Yup. Four litters to happy moms. At least... Semi-happy. Chael and his dearest had a single pup, probablly gunna get spoiled. Elu had four little ones... I bet at least one will be as dark and twisted as their father. Then there are Vulperomes' litters, Kayre and Citrine's pups. They each had five." Starbuck rolled her eyes, thinking how unfaithful Vul had been. Of course, she wasn't in to the whole commitment thing, but she believed that a male shoukd at least work with one female at a time. At Eclair's answer to her question, she grinned. "I figured. You don't seem like the housewife type."

"My my....that is quite the scandal." Eclair grinned, fluttering her wings lightly in an odd excited mannor. Normally she had little to no concerns about such affairs which didn't involve her....yet when a single male managed to impregnante two females. He must had been a rather dashing and alluring male to have pulled off such a stunt like that. Perhaps one day she would like to meet with this Vulperomes. Yes, she would enjoy that very much. Listening to the other stories of Chael and Elu, they seemed perfectly normal...mostly normal in Elu's case with a dark twisted mate.
"Of course not...what a foolish notion. No male will ever have that kind of nature to make me be such a drone of a Maluess." Eclair huffed slightly, tossing her head back to rid the hair from her eyes. Turning to the little femme, She strolled over to her with a rather sincere smile on her lips. "I have to say, Starbuck. You are very much a Maluess after my own heart. It has been an utmost pleasure talking with one so delightfully pleasant." Cocking her head to the side, she actually hoped to be able to see this child more often, it seemed they had more in common then she originally imagined. Taking a slight bow of her head, Eclair smirked before replying "However, I should be off. Lets meet again, I'll make sure next time not to interrupt your fish pestering."

Starbuck smirked to herself. Though she was indeed around the age of the scandal litters, she was beyond them in maturity, she so loved to think, and in intellegence. With that self-absorbed notion, she had thought of the ten pups much lower than her. Of course, she saw the broods about on occasion, and would, if finding no way out of it, bat at one of them like a child for a moment or so. One of Citrine's daughters had peaked an interest, however. A lacky, she would call her perhaps, a side kick. Not as intellegent as she, not as brave; really, sort of a quiet wimp. But she had a fierce loyalty to family and friend alike that had caught Starbuck off gaurd. Such is life.
It was a bitter-sweet idea to have Eclair's company gone. On one hand, the pup could go back to building dams and pestering the fish. On the other, she would loose the conversation with an adult that seemed to be so much like her. For once in her young life, she felt as if another understood her. "Yes, that would be good. We'll bumnp in to eachother around here, no doubt. I spend most of my time at this spot anyhow, so you'll know where to find me."
