Gryffindor Common Room!

"You might belong in Gryffindor,
Where dwell the brave at heart,
Their daring, nerve, and chivalry
Set Gryffindors apart"

Head:

Founder: Godric Gryffindor

Blazon: Gules, a lion rampant or (That is, a golden lion on a red field, hence the Gryffindor colours of scarlet and gold)

Ghost: Sir Nicholas de Mimsy-Porpington AKA "Nearly Headless Nick"

Location: Gryffindor Tower. The entrance is on the seventh floor.

Appearance: The entrance is located behind a large painting of a Fat Lady in a pink silk dress. If you know the right password to tell her, she swings open to reveal a round opening in the wall. The common room contains a lot of squashy armchairs, a fireplace, and tables. The fireplace is connected to the Floo Network, but as it is extremely public except in the dead of night, Gryffindors usually use owls to communicate with their families instead. There's also a notice board, for public announcements such as the date of the next Hogsmeade weekend, but also for notices from individual students seeking to buy or sell secondhand books, or trade Chocolate Frog cards, or similar, as in any school.

There are two staircases opening off the common room into the Tower itself: the boys' staircase, on which the seven boys' dormitories are located (one for each year) and the girls' staircase, on which the seven girls' dormitories are located (one for each year). The girls' staircase is under a spell so that if a boy sets foot on it and persists for a few steps, a wailing klaxon goes off and the staircase temporarily Transfigures itself into a stone slide, sending him and anyone else on the stairs sailing to the bottom. According to Hogwarts: A History, the founders believed that girls were more trustworthy than boys, so that while the girls' staircase is enchanted to prevent boys from getting in, the boys' staircase does not carry a reciprocal enchantment/ Each dormitory is a round room with windows looking out onto the grounds, and containing four-poster beds.

Samantha slowly walked into the room looking about. It was a comfortable place, where one could find real peace, she thought. She smiled, coughed slightly, and made her way to the fire, crouching down feeing its warmth.

Time passed slowly...but it was irrelevant to Samantha. It always was. It was the reason she had to take extra care to be on time for things. But she hated rushing...What was the point? She would much prefer moments like this, where she had time to sit and reflect...

Or read. That was always good. Samantha stood and rummaged around the common room. Surely the evening's Prophet was around somewhere! And of course, she needed to keep up with things. There were a lot of changes for....her kind. She shuddered and put the thought from her mind.

Finally she found what she was looking for and returned to sit by the fire. Her brow furrowed, and her stomach clenched tightly as she read the headline:

Riot outside Ministry of Magic! 10 dead, more injured as protesting against werewolves continues, and Former War-Hero stands his people!

Liddy walked intgo the common room with a sense of excitement in her expression. She noticed Samantha first, walking in her direction. "Hello Sam how are you?" Noticing the Prophet and reading over her shoulder.

Startled, Samantha jumped into the air as she was addressed. "Oh! Um....er....Hello....L-l-liddy." She took a deep breath, trying to hide the newspaper. "I'm--i'm....fine. You?"

She had never been able to grasp the use of her nickname by the girl now trying to read over her shoulder. Samantha had done her best to avoid people her whole time at Hogwarts, and yet Liddy still felt comfortable enough to call her "Sam". She wondered if she still would feel the same if she knew....

"Oh I am sorry did I scare you? It's fine if I call you Sam right?"

Liddy had never been one for manners. But she was polite....if that makes any sense! She plopped herself down in a big plushy chair and stared into the fire.

Brushing a strand of hair behind her ear, Samantha paused before answering. "Well....you did startle me a bit. I figured everyone would still be at the feast...And....I don't mind if you call me Sam. You can call me whatever you'd like." She snuck a glance at Liddy before cautiously pulling the paper back out and continuing the article.

"I left the feast early......I wanted to get my things unpacked. I like to be organized." She said kindly. She rose up and walked over to the window, were she had a clear view of the forest.

"Organization is good..." Samantha remarked mildly. "There's nothing like being prepared....of course when being prepared is possible..." She turned the pages of the magazine idly, finished with the headlines. She'd worry about that when she had to...No sense in starting the year of miserable. Maybe, just maybe she could start the year off differently this time, and not end up so miserable at the end. She resolved to be more involved and less "spacy" as she had been called.

Samantha stood and walked over to Liddy. "Beautiful huh? Anything in particular you're looking at?" she asked.

"Yes being organized is a wonderfully ability!" She said as she smiled. "I don't get it from my dad, or mom.....both sports enthusiast's so they come with some issues in cleaning." she smirked. Liddy looked at Sam and replied "not really....I like outside. Walls make me feel...enclosed." she paused. "DO you know what I mean?"

Samantha winced as she thought back to her childhood. Did she know what Liddy meant? Maybe not for the same reasons, but she certainly did. Enclosed spaces did get to her sometimes...She chalked it up to the "Others" presence.

"Yeah...I know what you mean...I like....being out in the open...Unrestrained you know?"

"Exactly!" she said with a little bit of energy. "I am going up to unpack...have you already? Because if not maybe we could unpack together." She offerd kindly. As a group a Gryfindors walked in. Most of which being Liddy's friends.

Samantha shot an uneasy glance at the incoming group. "Um....well....."
