Gaian Incarnation: SilverDragon285User Image
Name:
Ayen "Silver" Frilande
Parents: Jornae and Daieth Frilande
Age: 23
Specialties: Earth-based magics (mostly stone casting, scrying, other stone magics ), animation
Physical Description: Silver is 5'5'' and has long, mid-back length, black hair, that has a sort of greenish sheen in the sun. Her eyes are a brilliant emerald green. Silver isn't heavy, but she's not too thin. She's always considered herself average in that resepect. She comes from a long line of muscular women, used to the harsh life in the mountains, though she is taller than the norm for her people. She is most often seen wearing the colors green, black, and white, as her family back in Seinheph descends from the old Black Bear Clan of the Sheulan Forest.

Before the Caravan:
Silver Frilande was not always called Silver. It was a nickname given to her by her older brother, Nuroah, when she was a child. Nuroah was one of the few people who had ever traveled from their mountain village, Seinheph, to see the outside world. Of course there were always the ones who regularly journeyed to get supplies when the people needed them, but there were only so many people willing to venture out of their safe haven in the mountains. After one of his earlier expeditions, Nuroah returned with a medallion. The silver dragon on its face glinted in the sun and fascinated his five-year-old sister, Ayen, to no end. "Kin I see it, 'Ro? Pwease?! Kin I hold it?" Every time her brother would come home she would beg to hold the medallion, to see the dragon's shining scales and outstretched wings, its fierce emerald eyes dancing in the light. He would tease her, "After my silver again, ey?" Then he would smile, "And precious as silver you are, little one," before handing her the medallion, to her utter delight. Eventually he started calling her Silver, which she liked very much. After all, Ayen was such a boring name where she came from, and silver was rare and precious. When she turned thirteen he gave it to her as a birthday gift.

Nuroah had come home from a trip and, as it was always the first thing she looked for, Ayen immediately realized the medallion wasn't around his neck. "Where's your necklace 'Ro?" Nuroah's face took on a look of shock and horror as he felt around his neck where the medallion should have been. "Oh no... I couldn't have lost it... I... the chain must have broken when we were traveling through Hauith Pass... I'm sorry, Silv." Ayen looked down at the floor. Tears began to well in her eyes, but she forced them away. "It's alright 'Ro" I'm sure it was an accident." She turned to walk away and Nuroah tapped her on the shoulder. "Hmm? What is it?" A sad, yet puzzled frown seemed etched on her face. He reached into his pocket, pulled out a small leather pouch, and handed it to her. Ayen's name had been stitched onto it in their peoples' ancient alphabet with silver thread. "Oh 'Ro, it's gorgeous! Thank you." She forced a smiled and moved to give him a hug, but he stopped her. "Well aren't you going to look inside?" The puzzled look returned to her face and she looked down at the pouch in her hand. There was something in it... something heavy. How had she not noticed it? She opened up the pouch and cautiously peeked inside. Dancing emerald eyes glared back at her. Her jaw dropped and her eyes grew wide as realization hit her like a stone. "'Ro... but..." She carefully poured the medallion and chain into the palm of her hand and looked it over, inspecting it as though she didn't believe it was real. Inscribed on the back in carefully carved letters were the words: "For my precious Silver, Love 'Ro". A long moment passed before she could even think clearly again. Nuroah took the medallion from her hands and hung it around her neck. She had worn it ever since.

Four years later Nuroah was killed in an avalanche on his way down the mountain. Ayen was inconsolable. Her brother, her best friend in the entire world, was gone. She became increasingly miserable and her parents worried about her. When she was 18, several months after Nuroah's death, she decided to leave Seinheph. She didn't know where she was going or how she'd get there. She only knew she wanted out of what she had come to think of as their "frozen death trap" in the mountains. Her parents gave their blessing, knowing that leaving would be best for her. Her mother packed her provisions for the journey and her father told her of towns and villages, some that she remembered Nuroah had been to, in case she should need more supplies. They said their goodbyes and Ayen left.

Wherever she went, she gave her name as Silver and she always wore her brother's medallion. The dragon became her symbol. It was all anyone knew of her, really. After months of grueling travel, only resting in a town here or there, doing odd jobs for food and shelter, she eventually came across a band of gypsies. Their leader, who was called Valelldia, took her in and made her feel welcome. Silver came to love the gypsy way of life. She had always wanted to travel, just like Nuroah had done, but now she wasn't alone and the traveling wasn't so tough. She had a new family and she felt at home.

About Seinheph:
Pronounced: "Sign-heff"
Location: Highland-Gelm Mountains
The People: The people of Seinheph are much like the denizens of other mountain towns you'll find in the Higland-Gelm mountains - short and muscular. The men work in the mines while the women do difficult work around the home, both inside and out. The children help with the chores around the house. When the town was built, it was rather small, but as with any settlement, it grew larger over the years. One mountain side can bear only so much, however, so, as a solution, half the town was built on a neighboring mountain while the other half resides in the original location. Long, wood and rope bridges connect different parts of this spread-out town.

Origins of the Black Bear Clan:
The Black Bear Clan of the Highland-Gelms were once a nomadic forest people. Living deep in the Sheulan Forest, they traveled from place to place within the trees, hunting and gathering. They would settle in one place for a month or two and then move to another location to give the forest time to replenish itself. No one knows why they chose to brave the Aompor Plains. Some say it was a war between The Black Bear Clan and another that drove them from their forest home, but there was little to no documentation to prove this, and the stories have been long forgotten by their descendants. What is known, however, is that something drove them across the plains and into the mountains, and there they remained. The descendants of the Black Bear Clan now reside in Seinheph, and a few other towns in the Highland-Gelm Mountains.

Silver's Abilities: Silver can use stones to do magic of sorts. Be it healing, protection, banishing, Silver can do it with the right stone.

Name: Aisrhan Frilande
Born/created: Silver chose the serpent charmer on Tuesday, July 27th, 2004.
Gaian Incarnation: Aisrhan Frilande User Image

Likes: She likes it when the caravan is camped and Silver can take her out to play in the grass. She also likes to listen to Silver play her flute. Getting into trouble and causing mischief seem to be her favorite things to do.

Darker side? She likes to scare or threaten smaller Fortunettes that once may have been prey items to her in animal form. Silver usually just attributes this to her animal instinct and doesn't punish Aisrhan too severely for it.

Foods: Silver is trying to get her used to "people" food, but she still likes to eat crickets and frogs when she can get them.

Dislikes: She still has an instinctual dislike for large predatory animals such as foxes and hawks, but is slowly getting over it since they don't target children as they would a snake. She also continues to dislike cold weather as her body temperature tends to drop a little. The cold temperatures make her feel sluggish and lazy and she doesn't like that at all.

*~Most Recent Quest~*
Aisrhan's Animal to Anthro Growth Quest:

Silver ran through the forest, following her compass. Aisrhan clung to her arm, trying desperately not to fall every time Silver tripped over a root or jumped over a fallen tree. Once, she was jarred loose from her usual perch on Silver's arm and decided it would be safer to curl around her neck for the remainder of their little "adventure". Thus, compass in hand, snake around neck, Silver arrived at what indeed must have been the tallest tree in the Sheulan Forest. She dumped her pack at the foot of the tree and sat down on a large root, finally pausing to catch her breath. "Well, that was fairly exhausting," she said as she closed the compass and tossed it into her pack. Silver looked up, trying to pinpoint the sun to get an estimate on the time, but could not see it through the dense upper canopy of the trees. The underbrush was surprisingly thin here and you could see a good distance through the area - but the trees were just close enough that their wide upper branches formed a thick ceiling, blotting out the sun and giving the forest floor a nice cool feeling. The tree she was sitting under, however, did not stop to help support this "ceiling" but shot right through it, as though it were better than the others and needed its own space. Silver craned her neck to look up at the tree, but no matter how she tried, its upper branches could not be viewed from the ground. "Hrmm... I wonder what we're supposed to do here, Ais? Ais?" In a moment of panic, Silver realized she no longer felt the little serpent around her neck. She looked around frantically, trying to find her. She wasn't on the ground, she wasn't in Silver's pack, and she wasn't up the - the tree! Silver's eyes shot up and instantly pinpointed Aisrhan's bright green little body slithering up the enormous tree. "How...? Oh no... I have to get her down from there!" She tried to think of a way to get herself up the tree. "Aha, I know!" Silver hurriedly took a rope from her pack and slung it around the tree, one end of the rope in each hand. As she used the rope to inch her way up the tree, the image from the card Val gave her flashed in her mind. How ironic. A woman, a snake, and a tree, all over again. Great... we all know how THAT story worked out. I swear, she thought sarcastically, if this turns out to be a giant apple tree, I am NOT eating one. Silver took a deep breath and exhaled loudly before resuming her climb. She was determined to get to Aisrhan before something happened to her. She inched her way up the tree, bit by bit, and eventually made it to the first twisted branch where, fortunately, Aisrhan had seen fit to stop. Silver pulled herself onto the branch and crawled out to Aisrhan - who only slithered farther down the branch. "Sweetie, come here. I can only go out so far before it snaps, you know. Come on Ais, we don't have time for this. I can't tell what time it is, but it's after noon, I assure you." No matter what Silver did, the snake persisted in moving farther away. Silver reached back to her skirt pocket and took out the tarot card, hoping the image imprinted upon its surface would give her some sort of sign. Silver eased her way back to the trunk of the tree and propped herself into a sitting position, her back to the trunk. She studied the card, but could see nothing other than a rather unusual depiction of the Eden scene. Aisrhan moved closer to Silver's perch as she stared intently at the card in her left hand. Silver smiled. "That's my girl. Come one Ai-" Aisrhan suddenly reared back, her eyes seeming to glow with some golden ethereal light. "What's wrong? Ais, are you okay?" Silver started to reach for her, her hands trembling, but Aisrhan hissed, like venomous snake normally would, and the card in Silver's other hand turned to dust before her eyes. She tried to keep it in her palm, but a large gust of wind blew every last particle away from her and she saw it float away on the wind before her vision went black and she felt herself slump against the tree.

Silver soared above the Sheulan Forest on wings as black as the raven feather from Aisrhan's welcoming gift that hung in their wagon. It was peaceful... quiet. She felt at home. Though, quite suddenly, a feather was ripped from her right wing. And another, and another. They began to tear painfully from the left one as well, and Silver's graceful glide faltered in mid air as she cried out in agony. She spun to face her attacker, yet her fist met with air and the pain continued as she plummeted toward the trees below. Just before she hit the trees her vision went dark once more and the pain ceased. When she opened her eyes again, she was lying in the grass on her stomach, looking up at the largest tree she'd ever seen. It was even larger than that tree in the Sheulan. She noticed that her eyesight was rather sharp, but that her hearing had dulled. She could, however, feel vibrations in the ground from deer nearby. Deer? How did she know they were deer? Silver flicked her tongue out to taste the air. Ah, yes. Deer - and there's a mouse over there... a warm, furry mouse... NO! She knew she had a reason for being at the tree, and shouldn't let a possible dinner distract her. The smell of grass almost overwhelmed her as she slithered toward the tree and began climbing it. There was a girl in the tree that looked oddly familiar. She almost felt drawn to her, and a green snake just like herself that was on the branch in front of the girl. She was sleeping against the tree's trunk and the snake was reared back as though it would strike, but it was not a venomous snake and it made no move to bite her. It only sat and stared at her, watching over her. Silver climbed up to the branch and looked the other snake in the eye before coiling herself around the girl's arm and falling asleep as well.

Silver woke up, but didn't open her eyes. She felt as though she'd been hit by a run away wagon. "Ugh... what happened?" She suddenly realized that there was something in her lap and almost gave in to her instinct to shove the unknown entity away from her, but her memory came back in the split second it took her to open her eyes. She looked down at the sleeping bundle and smiled warmly. "Ah, my little Aisrhan, you've grown at last." She saw a small piece of paper sticking out from under her leg and reached for it, pulling out the card that Valelldia had given her. "But I thought this was...?" Aisrhan opened her eyes and cooed. "You're right, hon. Better not to ask. Now, how do we get out of this tree?" Silver looked around, but only saw her pack, precariously perched on the branch in front of her. "Ah, here we are," she said as she pulled another length of rope from the pack. She tied the rope around the tree limb and tied a knot in the other end, so she'd have something to hold on to at the bottom. She secured Ais in her pack in a sort of makeshift papoose and began to climb down the rope. When she got to the end of the rope, the reality that the rope was too short became crystal clear. They were about ten feet from the ground, but Silver was reluctant to jump because she might hurt the child on her back. "Well, Ais, I can't see any way around this." The infant giggled. "Alright then, but hold on tight." Silver lowered herself all the way to the end of the rope and let go. She bent her knees to absorb most of the shock as she hit the ground and was careful not to lose her balance and fall over. "Well, babe, we made it, eh?" Aisrhan just blinked and yawned. "Yes, I know. I'm tired too. The sun will be going down in an hour or so. I think we can make it back though." She judged the dimming light in the surrounding woods. "Hrmm... yes, we can." She made sure Aisrhan was comfortably secured and set off at a swift pace for the gypsy camp. Silver managed to get them both back without any mishap right after the sun went down. "We're home, Ais," she whispered to the now-sleeping child on her back. "We must go see Val before we can go to bed though. I have something to return to her," She said, looking at the oddly painted Eden scene on the card in her hand.

Aisrhan's Previous Stages:

Aisrhan's first stage was this lovely serpent charmer.
User Image
I know this one is shrunk a bit - blame photobucket - so here's what it says:
"These flutes are traditionally used to charm serpents from their homes to serve as familiars. However, they are also an effective instrument for fireside gatherings with their hollow, haunting music."

After Aisrhan transformed, Silver missed playing her flute, so she crafted one herself from wood found in the Sheulan Forest. Unlike the instrument Aisrhan once was, the new one displayed a dragon along it's black painted surface in place of the serpent. It is one of Silver's most favored posessions next to her brother's medallion.

Aisrhan's second stage:

Likes:
crickets, frogs, being out in the grass, sunning herself in the window of Silver's wagon, listening to Silver play her flute (though as a snake, she can only feel the vibrations through the wagon floor or when she sits on the window sill)

Dislikes: cold weather, hawks and foxes (predatory animals)

Memorable Events:
(things not originally documented in this joural)

1/29/06 Wishes and Wagon Ordering
Silver sat silently with her family, who were currently discussing the order of the wagons. She wasn't sure where her wagon should go, so she let the others decide for her as she contemplated all that had happened thus far. She had watched the wishing ceremony and silently made her own, tossing the dust into the fire. "Please let Aisrhan forgive Val... please." The vision that had revealed itself to her both frightened and intrigued her. A long, skeletal hand that was attached to a hooded figure's arm beckoned her, called to her. She saw the green glowing eyes beneath the hood, could feel the darkness overpowering her, if only for a brief moment. That was the scary part... but the large black form hunched upon the figure's shoulder was what intrigued her. What was it? Some kind of animal? A bird? Silver felt she had to know, but before she could do anything, the vision had vanished, and she realized she had been reaching toward the fire, had almost fallen into it, taking Aisrhan with her. The few that had noticed had exchanged worried glances with each other and kept looking at Silver in an odd way. She tried to shrug it off, but the image haunted her (what did it have to do with Aisrhan forgiving Valelldia?), and though Aisrhan managed to ignore it and was enjoying the ceremony with everyone else, Silver sat quietly, only speaking to congratulate her friend, Leshya'e, when Anezka grew. Silver had hugged mother and child, happy for them both, but had soon returned to her thoughtful silence as the wagon ordering began and ended. Weathered Melody was to be the the eleventh wagon. Silver approved.

Valelldia
Captain

PostPosted: Wed Oct 05, 2005 9:22 am

Valelldia had to do it- there was no getting around the truth of the matter- what had happened that night that the children were stolen... and her rage... had caused some repercussions for the gyspy whose wagon she was standing at, propped up on her cane and wincing at the tenderness.

"Silver?" She called, at the back, hoping she was in- and feeling well enough to 'entertain'. "Are you there? It's Valelldia... we need to talk."
PostPosted: Wed Oct 05, 2005 9:28 am

Silver was sitting on the bed with Aisrhan, playing her flute when Aisrhan crawled into the floor and under the bed rather quickly. "Ais, what's -"
"Are you there? It's Valelldia... we need to talk."
"Ah..." She left the girl where she was hiding and walked to the door, painfully, and slowly. Upon opening it, she finally answered, "Yes, Val, I'm here. Come in." She knew Val must be feeling horrible about what happened, but Silver had already forgiven her. She would have to let her know that. Aisrhan on the other hand...
