Was it special song? Or CD? Or something else?

For me, it was hearing hearing song "Wait for sleep". It wasn't first DT song I heard (which was "Take The Time") but it was first song of them I truly loved. heart

I fell in love with "As I Am". Then I decided to buy one of their CDs. The rest is history.

I can't really remember how i got into them. I remember my dad gave me Images and Words and Awake for christmas, but i didn't really listen to them for ages.

It was probably Scenes From A Memory that did it in the end. I used to listen to my dad's cds whilst i was on the pc because it was easier than getting mine from upstairs. I listened to it and really liked Through her Eyes and the Spirit Carries On, so I taped it. Because i didn't read the lyrics i sort of gradually got the idea of the story, and because that album had more depth than anything else i listened to, it turned into one of my favourites. Because of that i started listening to my other two more and it just carried on from there.

Well, my friend Joey is a really big prog freak, and a great drummer, to boot. I told him about the music I listened to, and he referred me to Dream Theater.

I bought the album Train of Thought a little later, and fell in love. whee

I had heard the name Dream Theater mentioned on a late-night show called Musical Mayhem (local show that plays music videos) and I saw some of their music used (try every studio album minus 8VM and SFAM) at the store, and checked it out. "Pull Me Under" was okay, and "6:00" didn't really do it for me (I usually base my opinion on a band by the first song on the CD), and "A Fortune in Lies" REALLY didn't do the band any justice (the WDADU limited edition was there, #9059-10000). It was the song "The Glass Prison" that pulled me in. Just the overall heaviness of the intro, and the way the vocals were sung, it just took me hook, line, and sinker.

After that, I was mostly a casual DT listener, only listening to SDOIT every once in a while, or TOT when I got it. It was when I got 8VM that my DT fandom skyrocketed to what it is now, especially after hearing the title track.

Edit: Just so you know, all the albums i mentioned (Awake, I&W, and the copy of WDADU) I purchased wink

I can vividly remember how I became involved with the band. It started in 1999. I was simply browsing through the net and came upon an artist's website. Through this particular artist's bio is how I came to acknowledging Dream Theater. His fav. band is Dream Theater, and since the name of the band struck me with a strange kind of fancy, I took it upon myself to investigate. I then downloaded "Home" and the rest as they say... is history.

Haha I think its kind of funny. I was at the mall and I saw someone with a DT shirt. I thought it was really cool looking. (Scenes From A Memory shirt) So when I got home I looked them up and downloaded the first song that came up, which was Under A Glass Moon, and put it on my ipod. Whenever I played my ipod I always skipped it. Then one day I was falling asleep while listening to it so I didn't skip it. It was really loud so it woke me up. Haha I just thought to myself, "What the hell is this its ******** amazing." So I woke up and got some more songs. Basically Dream Theater got me into any kind of metal/prog. heart

A friend of mine shared "Images and Words" and disc one of "6DOIT" with me.

I loved both of them, but for a while thats all I had. Finally a different friend bought Train of Thought and then we raced to see who could buy the rest of them (including the full 6DOIT) the fastest lol

I can't remember who won in being fastest, but we both have the Dream Theater studio discography, so really, we both won!

I heard Beyond This Life on the History of Trunks DBZ movie, but when my friend burned the soundtrack, there were no listings. I had no idea who the band was, but I loved their stuff. It wasn't until three years ago I was listening to my friends ipod when DT came on with Beyond This Life, and it felt like my life was fulfilled (I was hysterical when I finally found out who was playing the songs!). Since then I bought every album and they are my favorite band of ALL time.
