Flit wandered around the woodland area of Phib's packlands, his head held up high to see where he was going. Unlike his son, Mavis, Flit had a good outlook on life and lived everyday to the fullest. He hadn't seen his son in quite some time, but he wasn't too concerned about Mavis. His son was perfectly capable of handling himself, now that he had full control of his darker half.
Flit shuddered at the thought of his son having the same condition as his mate, Eisig'Flammen. She told him off the bat that she had another being inside of her and he never thought of it again, nor did he stop and think that one of his offspring might get another being, too. The impossible became possible for his son, Mavis, which tore Flit in two. With time, Flit grew to appreciate his son's condition and broke his constant search for Mavis.
Sighing, he flopped down underneath a large oak tree and gazed around. The area seemed too quiet for his liking, but it was better than it being noisy. Yawning slightly, he leaned against the tree trunk and waited for something to happen.

Quin was ambling along, lost in his own thoughts. He'd had fun out in the woods with the brindle pup but now he was alone again and finding the whole issue of being so far from home a very painful one. The young wolf sighed miserably. Transported here on the cusp of adolescence he should have been mock-wrestling with his friends and sorting out where he lay in the pack structure. He should have been learning how to stalk and kill prey more properly, he should have been able to ask advice of his parents...
His small form seemed to droop as he walked along, tail limp, ears down. He missed them badly now. It had been a week or so since he arrived and he was beginning to feel isolated in this community of wolves who could not speak to him.
As he became aware of the adult in his way he paused. He had been somewhat wary of the cubs of this pack - not sure how to ingratiate himself with them - but a fully grown adult male was different. His milky blue eyes took in the colourful large form in front of him and was again amazed at the range of colours on some of these wolves. Most of his own family were brown, black, white or red toned but he liked this change of 'scenery' as it were.
His posture was already quite submissive as he approached the male, trying to scoot around him without bringing undue attention to himself.

Flit almost wandered away from the area he was heading towards when he spotted something black and white in the corner of his eye. He quickly spun around to see a black and white adolescent male scooting his way around him. Canthing his head to one side, he gazed at Quin curiously. The only adolescent he had seen was his son, Mavis. His interaction with the other wolves in the pack was very minimal and he wanted to keep it that way.
But here was a wolf who obviously was interested in Flit. The oddly colored wolf wagged his tail happily as he slowly began to approach the other male, his head held down low to indicate that he wasn't a thread to Quin. "Hello. What are you doing out here by yourself?" he asked the other male in a soft, curious tone of voice. He gazed around to see if the adolescent was with another wolf, but saw none. Still wagging his tail, he stopped after taking a dozen or so steps towards Quin.

The pied adolescent paused as the older male spoke to him, wondering if he was being scolded for staring. The tone seemed friendly enough, though and the young male's tail wagged a little in response to Flit's friendly gesture and he wondered what to say.
Damn not being able to speak their words. He'd managed to pick up a few basic ones by sitting, listening, but couldn't get much of a conversation. He felt like a young pup again, unable to articulate himself properly to those around him. "Hello.." he tried it sounded a little odd, clipped and obviously accented. It was the only word of the male's sentence he'd understood.
"Ava tendris levaro equiro" he sighed I don't speak your language.. wondering if the other would catch on and wouldn't just star at him confused then ignore him as if he was playing a silly game - like some others had.
Pale eyes watched the green-splashed male, wishing he could get through to someone, anyone.

Flit's ear flicked when the young male returned his hello with one of his own. He immediately picked up on Quin's accent and wondered if he had grown up in a family that had accents. Nodding his head slightly, he agreed slightly with his comment until Quin spoke a sentence that he didn't understand.
"Ava tendris levaro equiro?" he asked the pup curiously. He didn't understand the pup's sentence and from the look on Quin's face it was obvious that the younger male didn't understand him either. Sighing, he thumped his tail on the ground and leaned his body forward slightly.
"You here alone?" he asked the adolescent slowly, making each word sound like it was drawn out longer than it should have. Flit knew what it was like to have another wolf not understand him. It had taken Mavis some time to speak and understand what his own father was saying to him.

Quin wasn't sure what to make of this male. At least he seemed to be taking some interest in him - which was a nice start. As Flit began to talk, slwoly, Quin listened. It was obvious the older male was trying to communicate with him and he'd not pass up that opportunity. Speaking slowly, though, made little difference to someone who didn't know any of the words. He knew the male was refferring to him, and he knew by the tone he was being asked a question but he didn't know what it was.
He sat down, tail wagging a little to show that he was listening and not just ingoring the male. He leaned forward, eyes slightly pleading. "Aesarus a" he asked slightly pleadingly "teach me.."

Flit canted his head to the other side when he got no reply from the young male in front of him. It was then that it occured to Flit that maybe the other male couldn't understand him at all. He pinned his ears back against his skull, a little sad that he wasn't able to understand Quin and that Quin wasn't able to understand Flit. Pausing for a few seconds, he thumped his tail against his hindquarters, trying to think of someting to do.
It was then that he saw the slight wag in the young male's tail. That was a good indication to Flit that Quin wanted to show that he was interested in the older male. Slowly, Flit took a few more steps closer to the other male and listened to QUin's pleaing question carefully. "Aesarus?" he asked the other male, not sure of what that meant. Nodding his head, he figured it meant that Quin wanted to learn his way of speech. "Flit will," he said to Quin in a confident tone of voice, his head nodding as he said it.

Quin's tail wagged a little faster as the male spoke to him. Although the words were unfamiliar the intent seemed clear - he would try to help Quin. The young male wondered where to begin and thought the best thing would be to find out the older male's name. The concept of a name was universal and hopefully would begin the process.
He thought for a moment, then spoke his name "Quintus". It was said with a sharp, clipped tone. The adolescent then looked at the green male in front of him questioningly, his nose inching forward as if to say 'and you are..?'
It was lucky for wolves that they had such a great deal of expressiveness. If they did not have then communication would have been even harder.
Where there's a will there's a way his mother had used to say and he hoped that was true.

Flit smiled at the young male's reaction to his words. Maybe Flit did have a good chance at teaching Quin how to speak his language. He canted his head to one side and heard the young adolescent say his name. "Flit," he said to Quin, watching the young male lean forward as if begging him for his name.
Slowly, he took a few more steps towards Quin, leaving a ten-foot gap between him and the other male. He gazed down at the ground and saw a small stick. Pickin git up, he tossed it lightly at the other wolf. "Stick," he said in a loud, clear voice. He hoped the other male would get what he said and would repeat the word back to Flit.

The pied youth listened carefully to the name proffered to him. Flit. That was easy enough, he thought, saying the name slowly.
"Flit"
It seemed to end more abrubtly than it should to him but that was surely better than having some unpronounceable combination of sounds tacked onto it.
Quin was reasonably sharp for his age and caught on immediately as Flit threw the stick at him. Nimbly the adolescent wolf caught the stick as it was thrown. Placing it down between his foot he looked at it and repeated the word.
"Stick"
So their word for this was stick.... did Flit mean the wood, a tree or just this small piece of branch Quin wondered. He scooted to a nearby tree and pressed his nose to it, then looking back at the male.
"Stick?"

Flit noticed the adolecent's quick reaction when the stick was thrown at him. He canted his head to one side and gazed at the younger male curiously as he listened to Quin reply with the word he had spoken to the adolescent. Nodding his head in praise, he followed the young male with his eyes as Quin scooted to a nearby tree. Flit canted his head to the other side when the younger male said the word again, this time in a questioning voice. Flit shook his head and approached the tree, standing beside Quin. "Tree," he told the younger male as he let one of his forepaws rest against the tree's trunk gently.

"Tree" Quin said emphatically. "Stick, tree" he motioned to each in turn and looked around wondering what other words he could ask for. Wolf.. what was their word for wolf?
Quin looked down at himself and then back at Flit. Collective terms would be harder to ask for but he would like to know what these wolves called themselves. His head tilted to one side as his eyes watched Flit, ears eagerly pricked forward.
(Maybe after your next post we could do a mini time-skip as if Quin's learned a lot more words otherwise this could drag on forevers ^^~! <3)

[sounds like a good idea.
sorry about my late post. Finals and muse-less week made me not post. @_@;;]
Flit nodded his head, happy that the young male was learnign quickly. He sat down on his haunches and looked around for something else to teach Quin. It was then that he noticed Quin glancing back and forth between himself and Flit. Canting his head to one side, he gazed at the younger male, wondering what he wanted to say. It was then that he watched Quin lean forward, as if expecting a word to come from Flit's maw. "Me?" he asked Quin curiously. He instinctively shook his head. "Us? Kin?" He stumbled for the word that Quin was eagerly awaiting and then it hit him. "Wolf," he finally said in a chipper voice. He picked up a paw and pointed it a Quin. "You wolf. Me wolf," he said as he pointed his paw at himself after a few seconds.

Quin nodded, trying the word. In his accented voice it came out more like "voolf" but the intent was clear enough. He was beginning to understand, little by little and after a long afternoon and evening of gentle prodding for name-words and a little adivce on how to integrate them to make basic questions and suchlike Quin was beginning to feel a lot more confidant about the strange language of these 'voolfs'. The young male was not overly smart but he did have a will to learn and a quick memory which absorbed everything he was taught.
-----
"Flit is words being good yet?" he tried the difficult sentance, glad to be able to communicate a little more easily with the green male now but still not completely getting his mind around the odd order of the language. As with anyone it would take a while before he understood the proper order, tenses and conjugations, but it would come and this male had made that happen. "Want thank you Flit" the young male said, bowing his head submissively in what, in his own country, was a gesture of thanks and respect.
((It's totally cool, dbz, like I said before - life comes first 83 and muses are ficke things, ain't they?))

[yeah, I know. -kicks her muse-]
Flit smiled happily at Quin's attempt to say 'wolf'. It was clear to him that the younger male was learning the words at a faster pace than his own son had learned them at. Thumping his tail on the ground, he spent the rest of the afternoon and most of the evening teaching the young male some more of his language. --- After hearing Quin's question, Flit nodded his head confidentally. "Yes. I am quite pleased with your progress," he said to Quin in a happy tone of voice. He gazed in the direction of his small cave and canted his head to one side until he heard Quin speak again. He turn his head to face the other male and saw the submissive bow. Normally that would frighten Flit, but today it made him a little happy. Slowly, he approached the younger male and nudged his shoulder gently with his muzzle. "Your welcome. Do you want to stay with me?" he asked Quin curiously.
