In The Ladies of Gaia we believe that reading is one of the best things that you can do for yourself. It enhances your mind and your spirit. Tell us about a book that you have really enjoyed. It could have been the last book you read, or one that you read years ago. Young or old, it doesn't matter. Reading is a gift to yourself. I personally could talk about books for hours on end.

I've read so many it's hard to pick one out of the pile. However I do recommend the Pern series by Anne McCaffery.

I have not read that series. I will have to look it up and maybe I'll pick it up. Hopefully we'll be able to start a book club in the guild. Maybe not a monthly book, but something so that we can all discuss a common book. I think that in the future that would be fun. Who knows. If anyone has any ideas regarding this I'd love to hear them. heart

right now i'm reading Twilight by Stephanie Meyer (i think that 's how you spell her last name) so far it's the best book i have read

The...uhhh... I'm not sure what you call it preview? oh the book

Isabella Swan's move to Forks, a small, perpetually rainy town in Washington, could have been the most boring move she ever made. But once she meets the mysterious and alluring Edward Cullen, Isabella's life takes a thrilling and terrifying turn. Up until now, Edward has managed to keep his vampire identity a secret in the small community he lives in, but now nobody is safe, especially Isabella, the person Edward holds most dear. The lovers find themselves balanced precariously on the point of a knife--between desire and danger.

Her new book is New Moon

I heard that it was going to become a moive so YAY

That sounds like an interesting book. You'll have to let me know if it ends up as good as it sounds. I love hearing about lots of books. I have quite a list of books that I want to read. Right now I'm re-reading Eragon, because the movie is out. I was hoping to finish it before the movie came out, but I didn't leave myself enough time. I thought I could finish it in a week, but Christmas stuff is more important. I'm such a book worm because I wanted to read the book again so I could properly compare it to the movie. See how many mistakes they make..lol.. I do the same thing before Harry Potter movies come out. The books are almost always better. Although I have to say that I didn't enjoy the book of The Chronicles of Narnia, but I really liked the movie, thats a switch for me.

I love pointing out differences between books and movies too! That's the geeky side of me. There are people out there who always criticize movie versions of books, but I rather enjoy them because I can feel smart explaining to my husband every little thing that was changed.

I just finished reading Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. Really enjoyed it. I think my favorite still is book #3, but I enjoyed this one nevertheless and am completely intrigued with Snape now.

As far as books I've really enjoyed, "The Golden Key" by Melanie Rawn, Jennifer Roberson, and Kate Elliott, was really good. It was basically about a family of painters who mixed 5 different bodily fluids in with their paints and could supernaturally paint events. There was much in it that was kind of creepy, but I thought it was a great story. That helped me discover Melanie Rawn, whose Dragon Prince and Dragon Star trilogies are wonderful. I do love reading fantasy. Elizabeth Haydon's Rhapsody series is also a favorite of mine. And then for good ol' fun, Jasper Fforde's Thursday Next series is incredibly clever. I'd recommend that to anyone who loves to read, loves puns, cleverness, and the classics.

I am definetly going to have to read some of those books. They sound really interesting. Last night my family and I went to see Eragon. I got through the first 15 minutes or so and decided that if I was going to enjoy it, I couldn't think about everything that they changed, and believe me it was alot. I thought that the book was a wonderful book. I loved the movie equally as much, but it was not the same. My brothers and I were talking about it the whole way home and my dad just kept telling us not to tell him what was wrong with it. He really liked it, he loves dragons. As for Saphira, I loved her. When she hatches, I was in awe. I think that she was done perfectly, so thats the best thing. I'm re-reading Eldest, because after reading Eragon again, I couldn't possible go to another book. I had to keep the story going as long as I could. biggrin

I used to read Poe all the time. I think his writing is amazing. I live in Baltimore, which is where he died, and I am looking forward to going downtown to the Poe museum. He's buried here too. Its really neat because they say his ghost is still here. He haunts the graveyard where he is buried. The Poe house is haunted to..lol.. I love Poe. My brother loves Poe even more than I do though. He loves the stories and has a complete collection of his stories being read on CD. I like the folklore more though. If your ever anywhere near Baltimore, MD, you should take a trip to the Poe house. Its supposed to be really neat.

I am reading about a person named Theodore Roosevelt.

this is the first page. Teddy Roosevelt was a weak, asthmatic child who grew up to be one of the most robust and ambitious U.S. presidents ever. A former New York City police commissioner, author, and hero of the Spanish-American War, he reluctantly accepted an offer to become William McKinley's vice president upon McKinley's re-election in 1900. When McKinley was assassinated in 1901, Roosevelt became the youngest man ever to become president. He served two terms, won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1905, and strengthened the executive branch through his progressive agenda and the sheer force of his personality. He is often remembered for his policy pronouncement, "Speak softly and carry a big stick." He was succeeded in 1909 by William Howard Taft.
Extra credit: Roosevelt was the first president to visit a foreign country, Panama, in 1906... He was the 26th U.S. president... The Rough Riders were an all-volunteer cavalry regiment organized by Roosevelt and Leonard Wood in 1898; on July 1 of that year he led the Rough Riders on successful charges up Kettle Hill and San Juan Heights (better known as San Juan Hill) near Santiago, Cuba, thus cementing his fame in America.
