The Orb of the Prophecy
the fantasy rp of epic proportions with a satirical edge

Dyrwyndd: It's a standard fantasy world, with the standard contingent of standard fantasy races: orcs, goblins, elves, dwarves, humans, halflings (i.e. hobbits), humans, and human-cross-any of the above, to make half-orcs, half-elves, etc. It has a standard prophecy regarding an obligatory glowy stone, known as "The Orb", or, when clarification is required "The Orb of the Prophecy." According to the prophecy, the orb shall bring darkness and despair to the land it is housed in until it is destroyed.

Or is that, if it is destroyed?

A bleak and bitter winter has settled over the land, bringing three years with no summer. The Church of Coilean, Guardian of the World has sent forth a band of adventurers to find the stone, and bear it to the Pillar of the Sky, in order to cast it down to shatter among the Teeth of the World. This would be hard enough with only the terrain and weather to contend with, but they are also faced with opposition from the Cult of the Death God Melete of Grace, who are determined to bring about the end of the world, presumably hoping to bring themselves to the bosom of their morbid goddess.

On the other hand, the Church of Melete Graciana have sent out a fellowship to bar the progress of the Cultists of the Mountain God Coilean, who, with their wintry rites, rituals and beliefs, clearly want to break down society with this endless winter, and force all to turn to the worship of their icy god.

The adventurers are not necessarily strongly affiliated to the churches they are representing, but they are from the nations governed by the relevant church. The Pillar of the Sky is considered to be the pivot the flat sky revolves around above the obviously flat world, and must therefore be positioned in the centre of the world. A strange geological phenomenon, it is actually a towering and strangely slender mountain (for a mountain, of course) looming over and dwarfing jagged foothills -- the Teeth of the World.

In reality, the world is a sphere, as worlds generally are, and the endless winter is a freak irregularity in the planet's orbit -- perhaps caused by a near miss from a meteor -- plunging the globe into an ice age. Of course, no-one knows this, just as no-one knows that the Orb is no more than a strange lump of quartz. Which, incidentally, glows at opportune moments. This could only be a reaction to temperature and humidity, and maybe dust concentration in the air, of course... right?

Role Call

Let's see if we have enough players yet...

Please post up... something. A breif character description, a profile, just an "ahoy", so I can see who is in so far.

Thanks, everyone.

Ah, I have a quick question. I'm rather confused, you see.

I can't remember the names of the two churches but, aren't the ones coloured in red / dark colours trying to throw the orb down and detsroy it?
Unless I'm just not reading very well, I'm confused, as the second post is in red, playing that church, yet it says that they want to save the orb.

Eh, maybe I'm just confused. Basically, which church wants to destroy the orb by throwing it in to the Teeth Of The World [I think that's the place]

I'm probably mistaken but it looks like in the first post it's one church, and then in the third it switches to another. ...I'm a bother, aren't I? XD

EDIT: This is the part I'm confused about

As you know," the priest began in a resounding baritone, "the Church of Melete Graciana have ascertained the cause of this endless winter. The Cult of the Mountain God Coilean have invoked their icy God, through the power of the Orb. The, hoom, the Orb of the Prophecy. The Orb which must never be destroyed, else we shall be plunged into the darkness of the End Of Days. The Orb which they now seek out to destroy.

That is a paragraph from the Melete Graciana post. Yet from my understanding, the Coilean people are the ones trying to save the orb, not destroy it.

...Yeah. I'm a HUGE bother. xDD

*Laughs* Whoops.

Coilean's mob were meant to be the ones doing the destroying. The sole distinguishing feature between the two churches, and I get it wrong. *Laughs*

Fixed.

Name: Thy ( Pronounced like ‘ thigh ‘ )

Age: Eighteen

Appearance & Description: Thy is an ordinary human male, and a proud member of the The Church of Coilean. He desperately wants to go on this journey to destroy The Orb. He is just a speck of life on Dyrwyndd, but he wants to be known. He wants to leave proof that he lived here, and not just be a human who sits back and lets their life drown away. And so, he is going to embark on this journey with the others, even though he may not be as talented as some of them.
He wants to be known, and has a desire to be famous. Thy wants people to think back, or look in history books, and say, “Thy helped destroy the Orb.” Apart from wanting to be famous, he also wants to go on this journey to prove he can do things. He’s never been too smart, and wants to prove to all of his friends and family that he can do something significant here on Dyrwyndd.
Thy has blonde, messy hair that ends just above his eyes, and often wears a yellow T-Shirt along with a thick black jacket, and thick, black jeans with a yellow pattern running down their sides. Covering his hands are some yellow gloves with a black circle in the middle, which are also made of a thick, warm material. On his feet are a pair of large black boots, with small spikes in the bottom, not just for kicking others, but to grip the snow covering the wintery lands of Dyrwyndd.
Finally, Thy has two small daggers latched on to either side of his jeans, for protection. He is not as strong as many of the other people embarking on this journey, but he does know quite a few techniques involving kicking an enemy down and pinning them there using one of his two daggers. His outfit, as you may have guessed, has a running theme of black and yellow, and all of his clothing has ot be thick to help him survive in the cold lands of this world.

Other Information: None, really, you’ll find it out in the roleplay. So, is this good? :3

Can I ask a favor?

I was wondering if you could give me some background on the two churches, and possibly some racial traits as well as if these two churches might have special abilities attained through faith or something.

I am thinking I might stray towards the death-cult..those characters are always fun.

Of course ^__^

The Church of Melete Graciana do not consider themselves as a "death cult": this is a term used by the Church of Coilean. They worship and serve Melete Graciana, Goddess of Balance, Judge of Souls and Guardian of the Border (between life and death). Their attitude toward necromancers is indifference, (as far as they are concerned, a necromancer can only raise those sould which Melete Graciana permits, as no man is greater than a god) and they do not mind the undead... although they don't like to encourage them.

The major rituals for the followers of Melete are those surrounding birth and death: it is important to ensure that the sould crosses the barrier between life and death fully, rather than lingers on the threshold. Priests/esses of the order also judge the state of the sick and injured, and if they believe that the person is only lingering on because they are resisting their goddess's call, they will dispatch them to the land of the dead. Hopefully by the subtle, magical/miraculous means befitting a cleric.

... Which leads to special abilities. Thise with the right level of talent and training are able to push the souls of the sick and injured over the threshold into the land of the shades. Similarly, they can pull a soul lingering on the threshold back into the light. I guess, if you pull them back hard enough into a body damaged badly enough, the effect would be essentially necromancy... but to do so would be contrary to the teaching of the Church.

A cleric of the church -- of either church, actually -- would also be educated in the arts of healing, would be literate, and would be aware of magic.

Racial profile? I hadn't planned anything out other than "human," and "originating from less north than the followers of Coilean".

The Church of Coilean, Guardian of the World is the more... robust, I guess, of the two. If you've read Eddings' Belgariad, you might think of him as something like a much toned-down version of Belar. He is the God of Balance, the changing of the seasons, and his hand turns the wheel of each life, and the wheel of the life of the year. (These wheels happen to be stone. I'm not entirely sure why...)

The biggest festivals of the church's calendar take place in winter: first snow, (Wannerein), longest night, (Waccherin), and the start of the melt, (Bairnna), hence the Church of Melete Graciana's view that they are a winter-cult. Clerics of this church are more likely to have some sort of military training than those of the Church of Melete Graciana. Their typical "special ability" is some degree of control over the weather, but under these altered climatic conditions, this control is even more limited than usual.

... I suppose there would undoubtedly be extremists in either church. Just to make things interesting.

Wonderful!

I've got a better grip on this now biggrin

Name: T'ii'lre (Sounds like Tyler)

Age: 28

Temple Position: Melete Graciana Cleric/Bridge. (These are the people who specifically usher in new life, and see old life its way to the goddess. Not sure if you have a name for them already razz )

Appearance: Pale skin layers a gaunt face; pitch white hair toussled on the top of his head. Thin Silver/white eyebrows arch over slender focused brimstone colored eyes.
His frame is lean and lithely, and his actions are graceful as he moves; almost as if in a constant dance for the goddess.
His Robes are heavy, draping off his body in odd places. Its material; inky black linen threaded with Blood red thread that shimmers in the sun and shows great durability to wear and tear. dozens of pockets are placed almost haphazardly on his robes, as well as multiple unseen pockets lining here and there, seemingly moving at whim. Within these pockets he keeps odds and ends, and many different materials his sect uses for rudimentary alchemic projects, as well as ritual items. The odd placement of his pockets, and the materials placed within result in his robes hanging so oddly off of him. The trim of his robe is laced with silver and gold threads, woven into intricate designs meant to ward of evil and harm. The hood of his robe is always kept up covering his face, on occasion it can be seen lowered, but never for that long.
A black and gold braided rope drapes from his neck, and at its base, an amulet hangs. Its angles and edges are unexplainable, and the many characters and cyphers on it let those who see it know what his position is. Small gems and precious metals dot the surface of the amulet in strange almost unappealing places.
He also carries a large tome with him everywhere containing ancient rites of his church. he is often seen reading from it...often.

T'ii'lre Has spent his entire life within the grounds of the church of Melete Graciana, having been orphaned as a child. His mother Dies at his birthing, and he was brought under the tutelage of the priesthood to learn the ways of the birthing/crossing rituals. He did spend a ten year study broad learning from those with knowledge not attributed to the church, but he aligns his education to the priesthood and the church.

Due to the Tragedy of his birthing, and being raised by the priesthood, he seems to have acquired the ability to see death in people, and tell when it is their time by the color of their aura at any given time. He does not attribute this to magic, but rather to a keen sense of knowledge to the fact that everything is tied to the goddess and in-so, tied to him.
He draws his strength from the goddess, and in-so his ability

His demeanor is quiet. He is slow to anger, and swift to retribution. His voice is always calming regardless, but his emotions flare brightly in his eyes when they can be seen.

meh..anything else?
