Fresca was picked by me without much of a second glance. Her beautiful glossy coat and adorable brown eyes struck my heart and there was no way that I was going to let her go to easily.

She is an adorable mutt who has had a terrible past and is finding it rather hard to adapt to living in a house. She is a soppy little thing though can be rather harsh at times especially if it comes to others going on about how they are unloved when as a puppy they had a family to live with. She is very touchy.

Her first few days in our house

It took a while to find her but she stared at us unlike the others who were barking for attention. She was lying next to the door of her runway her beautiful brown eyes were glittering in the light and our hearts were trying to escape from our chests. She was beautiful and she would be ours. I waited with her as mum and dad went to find someone asking about her. They came back about 10 minutes later with their faces beaming. The gave me a slight nod and I turned to the mutt, "Your coming home with us!"

I had to wait around for a while as they made different arrangements about different things. I just sat down with her lead in my hand and with her lying at my feet. She seemed to be perfectly well trained. Mum and Dad weren't so sure and were trying to find out her background but all they could find out is that she had been terrorising the neighbourhood she was found in. From what they could pick up she had never really had her own home. My parents became slightly weary of her and how she may react but seeing me with her made them sign the adoption papers.

As we led her to the car it was obvious she wasn't to keen on the lead but I would try and help her with that. Once we had made sure she was trained the lead would only be for safety purposes and not all the time on walks. In the car she was ok she just lay at my feet with her head on her paws. She looked so lonely as if she wanted to be outside again. I just wished I knew what had happened to her maybe it would have helped the next few days.

We got her home and took her straight out into the garden; leaving the back door open we let her off the lead and went back inside. I sat on a chair looking into the garden and watched as she sniffed around looking hopeful of a way out or something though she didn't find one. She then turned to come inside and when she saw me her head shot up and for the first time her tail started wagging. She barked at me and I ran outside with a ball we had bought her. "Fresca come here girl come on!" She barked and ran over to me. It was defiantly a special moment. We played in the garden for ages it made us both happy. I fed her afterwards that she ate happily and then came with me to bed. She did however lie on the floor on the cushions we had got for her.

I woke up the next day with her on the bed. I couldn?t help but smile though I had to get up ready for school. Dad had already gone to work and Mum was downstairs getting ready to go out for work as well. I got up after making a fuss of Fresca and then got dressed which she watched with curiosity. We went downstairs together and Mum laughed at us as Fresca had somehow managed to get some of my clothes over her head. I laughed at her and removed them revealing a happy face underneath.

Mum told me that before I left for school to make sure I took Fresca for a walk after feeding her so she hopefully wouldn't make a mess of the house. I smiled and agreed happily. I hugged mum as she left for work Fresca still at my heels. I led her into the kitchen and made us both breakfast. Once we were finished I attached her lead to her collar that agitated her but she put up with it. I took for a long walk around a park and some houses where she did everything she needed to do. I ran home with her giving her the time to let off some energy. We got back home panting with just enough time for a drink each before having to go to school. I left her as she had fallen asleep upstairs in my room. I kissed her and said goodbye before locking her in.

School was as school was. I got home after mum because she finishes at lunchtime. As I unlocked the door I saw mum cleaning and Fresca outside. "What's going on?" Fresca heard my voice and started barking but I ignored her as I walked over to mum. She turned to face me looking very angry; "Your dog has ripped up some of the furniture and has left us presents all over the house." I felt as if I was about to cry. I had been expecting it we all had but now it had happened it was just; there are no words to explain it. I looked to mum wondering what she wanted to do about it. It was only Monday and something had to be done. "I am staying off work tomorrow. I called work and explained what has happened and she has had this problem before and said that it would be a good idea to stay at home. That and the radio." I looked at mum confused, "The radio? How is that going to help?" Mum didn't say anything but winked at me, "Go and sort her out she has been pinning for you!" I did as mum said and went out into the garden. I said in a firm voice to get down as she tried to jump up at me. I think I may have shocked her as she got down and cowered at my feet. I could'?t resist but crouch down and give her a big hug. "Come on you lets give you some dinner and then we will see what happens tomorrow!" We ate as she did, Dad wasn't too happy about the mess but said it was the reason they hadn't bought any new furniture yet and said it was fine. I happily went to bed with Fresca at my heels.

The next day I did exactly the same as the day before in hope of getting Fresca into a routine. This time mum stayed with her and when I got home everything was fine. Mum explained about how she had put the radio on and about lunch time popped out for about 10 minutes to go down the shop and when she got back Fresca was standing at the door and the house was fine. She said it would take a while for Fresca to get use to all of this, as she had never been in a house before.

While I wasn't at school or doing homework I was training her the basics. She soon became a very obedient dog but the problem about leaving the house was still there as we found out the day mum had to go into work. I had agreed to go home for lunch, which I rarely do but had to so I could check on Fresca.

I got home at lunch the radio was still on and Fresca was curled up asleep on the sofa. I left her as I went upstairs into the various rooms and I found a little "present" she had left. Only one a major improvement, I cleared it up and left with her still sleeping. When I got home from school mum smiled at me and asked if I had found anything when I got home at lunch. I told her what I had found and she smiled. Fresca was sitting at my heels her tongue hanging out her mouth. Mum smiled and petted her; "We will get you there eventually!" I smiled and winked at mum before taking Fresca out in the garden for her training session.

It had taken a month to get her this far. The radio was working as a good replacement and it was keeping Fresca calm. She still leaves us "presents" sometimes but not even half as much as she use to. We have bought her bones to chew on so she has left the furniture alone. She is one happy mutt now and we are happy to have her.
