14? That's impressive. Nobody chased me down. I applied to two colleges, went to the prettiest one and now I don't know what the hell I'm doing there. Moral of the story: TAKE YOUR TIME!
The biggest thing is ask the colleges what the majority of their students major in, and ask to see one of the course selection book thingys, unless it's online. If it has a lot of classes that interest you (by a lot, I mean more than 15 credit hours) then keep an eye on them.
I'm a first semester theatre major, already thinking of changing it to a minor (I'll be majoring in English with a writing concentration).
I go to Heidelberg college (in Ohio, not in Germany) and it's mostly known for it's Education department and water resources. The theatre department is ....lacking. It doesn't even have a proper major, it's coupled with the communications department (PR and journalism majors and film minor are technically part of the Comm department as well, we have to share). Actually, come to think of it, all of the fine arts (aside from music) are pretty lacking. I really should transfer.

Junior Theatre Arts major at Marywood University in Scranton, PA. It's not a big school and the program has a lot of flaws (mainly the universities fault) but they teach both technical theatre and on stage performing and really push having a respect for both. If you are on stage, respect the techies. If you're a techie, respect the actors. They teach us good theatre ethics which is something that I find alot of programs that my friends are in lack.

I want to major in Tech theatre with speciatly in stage management (BFA)
not really sure where to go, thinking of going to the community college here, which has an equity house in the campus, and a great theatre program. Then I would love to go to a liberal arts college.
I hope!

Hermineko Then I would love to go to a liberal arts college. A Liberal Arts college is not as super as it sounds. Yes, it tends to make you a much more rounded person, but the teaches not in your major sometimes tend to not understand your workload in your major.

Wait, the auditions at Collin County Community College? In north Texas?
OMG, I WAS DEFINETLY THERE ALSO.
Small world, eh? I was audition there as a tech, so I got to stand there for two and a half hours and smile and be perky and hungry since it was definetly during lunch time and present my portfolio like... 20 times. Callbacks for tech were weird, but I got about 15, give or take a few.
In any case, I'm either going to be a theatre major (lighting design) and if I can't get into a good program, I've decided God is telling me I'm not supposed to be in theatre, so I'm gonna be a youth minister. I've basically already been accepted into Oklahoma City University thanks to my auditions at CCCC last week. I just had my audition at Webster yesterday (which I reeeeaaaally want to do to) and I still need to audition at DePaul and Abilene Christian University.
Hooray theatre majors!

As a Junior in high school, I'm really not ready to decide on my life career yet. But currently, my biggest interests are in theatre and writing. For some reason, I kind of connect the two in my mind as artistic academics. But from what I've seen, they don't seem to have too much of a connection in college. Um...so, this is a question rather than a story, but does anyone know of any small (or small-ish) liberal art colleges with strong programs in both theatre and english?

You could always go into playwrite or something.

You could always go into playwrite or something. I would love to be able to write plays. But I'm not sure I explained my question well enough. I'm not necesarily looking for a way to combine the two fields, but rather, I'd be interested in looking at colleges where I have the option of turning to either a strong writing program, or a strong theatre program. So far, most of the strong theatre programs at small liberal arts colleges I have heard of are at colleges well known for the sciences, or just not well-known for the english department. And the colleges I have looked at for writing do not necesarily have the greatest theatre departments. Not that reputation has everything, or necesarily anything, to do with it...but...I'm confusing myself, now.

I'm hanging on the edge of declaring a double major with the new major being theater. I only have to prove i can make enough with it once I leave school...

I went to a community college w/ a small and strong program. Then I went to a state school and majored in theatre. You have to find a school/program that's a right fit for you.

I'm a BA Tech major at Salem State College I transfered in last fall, so even though I'm in my 4th year of college, I won't graduate for another year. I picked BA over BFA so I could get a more rounded education, but I'm hoping to go to University of Washington (Seattle) or Boston College (and still looking at other schools) to get my MFA in Lighting Design My college has one of the best theatre programs in the country. We compete as part of the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival (region 1 i believe) and we've had actors win the irene ryan national award and stuff. A judicator that was at our production of "6 degrees of Seperation" said that SSC is like the standard of excellence for our region XD It's cool, but we have to put in *alot* of work and every theatre major has to put in atleast 65 hours a semester in the theatre (outside of classes)
