You will not believe this. You have to scroll down to get to the actual rules of the camp, which is the crazy part. http://blog.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=blog.ListAll&friendID=7428306&Mytoken=20050604221047

There is a gaia topic about this at this location

The actual camp's site is at www.loveinaction.org

I sent this to various human rights organizations. I encourage you to do the same.

I personally find nothing wrong with this.
It has the freedom to do whatever it wants within it's boundries.
If people go there, it's either by choice, or by parents forcing.
Parents are free to force their kids to anyplace, including this, if they believe in it.
It's their right as a parent

I wonder if it actually works... How can you force someone to be straight?

thats the thing. it really doesnt work. (usually) the ones it does work on are the ones that are confused and arent sure of their sexuality anyways. but then they may not ever really be straight. theyll just be convinced theyre straight. in other words, it doesnt really make them straight, it just makes them block out their feeling for the same sex and try to make themselves believe they are attracted to the opposite sex.

my dad wasnt gonna send me to a camp or anything, probably b/c he didnt know about these sorts of camps, but for a while he wanted to see if he could get some sort of hormones injected in me to make me straight. of course i was extremely angry and annoyed...1) i dont think that would even work, scientifically speaking, 2) he shouldnt try to change who i am, and 3) his argument against gays is that its not natural. i fail to see how injecting hormones into my body is any more natural.

This is getting to far. They should just leave their kids alone unless the kid asks for help or advice for this matter. THEY SHOULD BE STOPPED!

i totally agree with you. i cant believe people have sunk so low as to make what they like to call "correction facilities" for gay people. its completely sickening. you know im almost as upset that some kids want to go to these things, not just their parents forcing them to. isnt bad enough that people cant accept each other? i guess some people just arent okay with their own sexuality. i dont understand it though. dont they know that they are themselves and their sexuality doesnt make them any better or worse of a person?

this is just sick..sick..god if i ever got forced to go their, i would make sure to break every single rule possible before i left. damn them.

the rules are insane...i have highlights, no way am i dying over them scream

no hugging? bull s**t i'll hug whoever i want

the thing that bothered me the most:

"Therefore, any belongings, appearances, clothing, actions, or humor that might connect a client to an inappropriate past are excluded from the program. These hindrances are called False Images (FI¹s). FI behavior may include hyper-masculinity, seductive clothing, mannish/boyish attire (on women), excessive jewelry (on men), mascoting, and "campy" or gay/lesbian behavior and talk. "

inapropriate past? i don't understand how loving someone of the same sex is inapropriate.

god this pisses me off.

o...m...f...g..... i just now read the rules. that is so sick and twisted, i just sat there for like an hour crying my ******** eyes out. excuse my french. theres a gazmillion things i could say right here right now that practically made me puke, but generally i loathed the way they dictate these kids' lives. im really not supposed to be making threats and all, but if i ever find the person who came up with crap like this, i swear ill kill them.

This is nuts.... just ******** nuts...

I found out about it a few days ago, and it just sickens me. I've heard that, statistically speaking, people who undergo 'therapy' to 'change' thier sexuality are far more likely to commit suicide than those who are let be.

I'll do some research on the legalaties of this once my finals are over and adress it to the government and some humanatarian organizations. If I lived in Memphis I'd sabotage that place in da middle of the night and paint a gianormous rainbow on the bulding! Or I'd at least go to some of da protests there...

Really, parents shouldn't have the rights to send kids to places such as these if it's against the kids will. Especially since such 'therapies' have proven to br quite harmful!

Luckily though, Zach has TONS of support!

And those rules were really effed up. They say to be "Honest and genuine" when the camp is basically trying to keep people from being thier honest and true selves!

I read this earlier...it made me sick...

I think I would commit suicide while AT camp. Even if I had to use a zipper or a belt buckle or something...

Just one example of why this isn't healthy: People need to be touched. Not just hand shakes and hands on shoulders, really touch. Otherwise it can result in depression, insanity, and withdrawal. "Brief handshakes" and "firm hands on shoulders" just isn't enough positive contact for that long of a time...

I'm fine with parents and children seeing psychiatrists, but stuff like this makes me sick. Refuge? No. Hell? Yes.

Those people who actually create those kinda camps should be the one disciplined...that's getting out of hand. Can't they just accept their relative/friend or whatever as they are? AND NOT base on what their ******* sexuality?
