So, since everyone else seems to have forgotten about this lovely holiday, happy Shavuot all!
What are you guys doing to celebrate this holiday that most people seem to forget about? Anyone missing school or anything? And is it just me, or do tons of congregations do their confirmations on Shavuot? I just got home from my friend's at the local Reform temple.
Anyway, I'll be missing school for both days of Yom Tov and going to synagogue. When I get home I guess I'll work on my English project and study for my Spanish final, two not so observant activities. My family tries to do the 'eat dairy' thing as well. We had fish and stuff tonight. And ice cream.
PS- I feel so special. This is my first-ever stickie post. mrgreen

My family did the whole unveiling-with-another-family-occasion thing for my bat mitzvah... The Friday of we had my grandpa's unveiling because the whole family could be there.
And what is it with confirmation and Shavuot? What about Shavuot makes is appropriate for Confirmations?

Yeah, my bat mitzvah was preceeded by a different relative's unveiling @__@; Some kind of trend?

I guess because on Shavuot the Torah was given to the Jews, and it's like the Confirmads are the new generation of Jews recieving the Torah..? I dunno.

The unveiling trend is probably because the whole family ends up in town together, you know? I mean, I don't know about your family, but for mine the people who came to the unveiling had traveled from FA, NY, CT, PA, and more.
And the Confirmation thing makes sense I guess... But I've never heard it properly explained, you know?
And now an update on Kia's Shavuot...
Woke up around when I would normally start school, which was nice. Got on Gaia for a bit, went to shul. Today I'll hang around and do homework. My mom is making one of my favorite dairy dishes for the Yom Tov meal tonight, and apparently we've been invited to some family friends' for lunch after shul tomorrow. And thus is my Shavuot.

*is so uber-jealous*
I'm skipping school today and tomorrow. I get back, have two normal days (projects and movies). Then I take seven finals in three days so that I can leave early.

Yeah, always for the convenience. That was the case with my bat mitzvah, but this time my grandpa's yahrzeit was actually Shavous. Like King David :3
