Kauta was sound asleep with her head resting against Mteule's mane when she was jerked awake. At first she was confused and dazed, not sure what was going on. Nothing was amiss, that she knew of, so she rolled over to go back to sleep -- but was wracked with another contraction.
Oh. Crap.
"Mteule -- Mteule!"

For as intune as he was with Kiva, being a seer and one of her priests, Mteule wished that he could also have that same benifit when it came to Kauta. He didn't mind the extra effort it took to understand his mate's subtle clues in the least, but he wished he could've made the pregnancy easier on her at times. When she was feeling down-trodden by the fact she was no longer able to hunt, for instance, he wished he could take away both her insecurities and her boredom, but couldn't so easily cure either. He did the best the could instead, to soothe, comfort, and relieve her.
So it was that when her normally soft, often playful voice broke the tranquility of his moment by the falls, Mteule's instincts took flight.
"Kauta?!"
He whipped about and didn't waste a moment in bounding towards the area where he'd left the queen, lithe form ignoring the snap of the plants as he drove forward to find her.
