It was an unusually quiet day in the freelands for Duhkha and Lancaster. Instead of waking, then wandering aimlessly as usual, the pair had opted to be lazy for the day. Or rather, Duhkha had opted to be lazy. The timid male had simply not gotten up that morning, and at noon was still curled where he'd slept last night, albiet not totally asleep anymore. He didn't know exactly why he was more inclined to be a layabout today.. perhaps it was the cool air that was beginning to invade the land. He had always been more comfortable in the cold. Lancaster, on the other hand, had no intention of being lazy today. Instead of hanging about with his immobile comrade, the fox had decided to explore a little, and was currently out of eyeshot, but not earshot, of Duhkha.

The young adult was wandering, chatting to himself about this and that, as per usual.
"Maybe I should climb a big tree today..."
"No, I should fly."
"No you dont, you climb trees!"
"But.. I want to fly..."
That was the general gist of his conversation to himself. It wasn't an unusual thing for him to be chatting to no one but himself, he wasn't exactly what one would call nice, well he was to look at and he wasn't mean or anything just a little crazy.
He was insane.
There was no doubt about it. He had got it worse out of his siblings, he had picked up his fathers genes and gone insane, so much so that he had several personalities, one that was grown up, one of a flirt, one that was agressive, one that wanted to climb trees and one that wished to be a pup again. What one was showing right now, well your guess was as good as his. He rarely knew what was going on around him, how could he?

Duhkha's ears perked at the sound of another wolf's voice... talking to itself. About trees and flying. Odd, but not the oddest that Duhkha had been exposed to.
The adult male made no other move besides that, looking for all the world like a mound of mud and shadow with a couple roots sticking up. Or something like that. His coat was a rather muddy color, anyway, and he had tucked his blood-hued legs underneath his body hours ago. However, that didn't mean that he wasn't paying attention. At least one ear tracked the movement of the voice at all times. As lazy as he was feeling, he was still very much a timid and submissive male, and he didn't think that wolves who talked to themselves would be all that friendly..
Lancaster had heard the strange wolf as well but had wisely decided that barging in to check on Duhkha - the wuss - would hardly be the smart thing to do. For now, he simply listened, monitoring the situation as he went about his business.

Chip didn't notice the fox but he did see the wolf.
"Hey there!"
"Oh no its another wolf."
"Oh but I am not a wolf, I am a chipmunk"
"You keep thinking that, wolf"
Chip snarled at himself and then started to run around in circles as if trying to attack his own tail though at the same time he kept stopping, running the other way, stop, run the other way. It would have been an amusing thing to watch. There was no doubt that he was completely insane.

Having been noticed, Duhkha had the good sense not to continue pretending like he wasn't aware of the other male. He brought his head up (but didn't get up) in order to better see the other's... antics. Oh yes. Very crazy.
However, Duhkha was not quite as sure of himself as other wolves, so what might have been great entertainment to them, merely unnerved him. It would be better not to get on the bad side of a crazy wolf, after all, even if the wolf didn't seem to be of the violent sort of crazy.
"..Hello." The greeting was given more quizzically than anything else, being that Duhkha was not quite sure how to interact with Chip.
It would have been silly if Chip had been able to see Lancaster. He was quite out of eyeshot of both wolves, but that didn't mean that he couldn't hear them. And from the sounds of things, the orange fox thought that Duhkha might get overwhelmed by this new comer, by personality - or personalities - alone. Quietly, he began working his way back towards the pair.

Chip stopped talking completely as he turned to look at the wolf.
"Im chip!" He spoke happily, to begin with.
"His name is Chipmunk."
"Yeah he believes he is one."
"Do Not!"
"His father was a squirrel, so they say."
"Yeah his mother a River."
"Leave them alone!"
"Crazy aint he?"
"Not as crazy as you!" He started to snarl again, each time he spoke it was mostly directed at himself though it told the other information that was probably well needed.

"My name's Duhkha." (Duke-ah)
Born of a squirrel and a river...? Well, if he were to assume anything, Duhkha could probably gather that Chip meant that his mother's name was River.. But he couldn't make any sense out of the squirrel comment.
Or out of the 'think's he's a chipmunk' comment.
But, the strange (oh, so strange) wolf seemed to be the nice sort towards wolves who weren't speaking out of his own mouth..
Either way, Duhkha had lost his desire to be lazy for the day. Accordingly, he stood, stretched, and shook himself, revealing his blood-colored legs in the process. Feeling daring because of the continued lack of violence against himself, Duhkha braved speaking more than was necessary.
"What brings you to this area?"

He stopped talking at the question and just stared for a while before tilting his head and started yapping.
He stopped.
"We were wandering."
"No he got lost."
"Did not!"
"Well then where is Stray?"
"I dunno, we went wandering."
"You got lost!"
"You broke your mothers promise."
"Did not!"
"Did!"
The young adult started whimpering, it was starting to be a little easier to see which was the wolf talking and not one of his voices. He only said 'I' when it was indeed him who spoke, the young immature voice. Like his mother was at his age he still seemed to be something of a pup.
"What 'bout you?" All voices said this at once which sounded someone what odd, the words were hard to make out when he spoke like this but he spoke slowly to try and get it a little clearer.

He shifted his weight a little while Chip was staring at him, but was composed again by the time the other began speaking.
Wandering? Lost? A broken promise? It was all quite confusing. Well, at least he could gather that the other wolf (none of the wolves?) had conciously intended to walk here, and had simply happened upon him. Duhkha was getting the hang of telling the voices apart, though, which he counted as an improvement from simple bafflement.
"Oh.. I wandered here."
Lancaster watched the two wolves, concealed in the shadows. Well, it seemed that Duhkha was handling himself well enough.. he didn't need to interfere. Yet.

Chip just stared at him again. He didn't say anything, just stared.
He then moved suddenly, jumping up and down and then howled before looking at him again. He was trying not to speak, it confused him so much that he didn't realise it was confusing the other wolf.
He suddenly laid down and started to nibble on his paw, maybe that would help.

Duhkha's ears went back, pinning themselves to his skull when Chip started... seizing. Or something. He stayed that way for a few moments even after Chip calmed down enough to simply chew on his own paw.
"Er... Are you okay?"
"Plum looney." Lancaster muttered to himself, deciding to make an appearance. Duhkha might break and run after a couple more spaztic outbursts. As friendly as he was, the wolf scared easy.

Chip just looked up and smiled as if was plain normal.
"I am fine." That was all he said, it took alot to hold everything back but as long as he chewed on his paw and kept his mouth busy the other voices couldn't break through.
When the fox made an appearance it confused him slightly, he didn't stop chewing on his paw but he watched it curiously. Strange creature, he hadn't seen a fox before.

"Okay.." If he said he was fine, it must be okay. Duhkha just had to trust Chip's assessment of his okay-ness. The muddy-colored wolf paused when Lancaster made his appearance, equal parts nonplussed and relieved.
"Lancaster.. where have you been?" He'd been gone most of the morning, after all.
"Hunting for dinner." The fox grunted, keeping his eyes on Chip. His voice bore a thick vulpine accent, but most wolves could understand at least a little of what he said. The two languages were similar enough for that, at least.
"Did you catch anything?"
"Mouse." Even though he was the strongest personality between the two, he depended on Duhkha for a good deal of his food. Espeically in the winter.

The view of the fox seemed to suddenly scare Chip and he stopped nibbling on his paw and growled, but not a vicious one, a warning to keep away. The voices in his head were confusing him, some telling him to attack the fox, some saying run away.
He just stared and snarled, his tail between his legs. There wasn't really a reason for him to dislike the fox so much, maybe it was just the voices in his head.

Lancaster froze. Smartass and rude he was, but stupid he most definitely was not. If a wolf attacked him, he would most likely die. His whole body tensed, ready to run, while his ears swivelled agitatedly. Damn. Of all of Duhkha's friends he let see him, this was only the second time he'd been threatened.
Duhkha made a distressed whine in the back of his throat, his ears going down closer to his skull. "What's wrong? Do you not like foxes?" He didn't miss the barely concealed snort from the still-still form of Lancaster, but he didn't react to it either. It didn't click in his mind why Chip would so suddenly take a dislike to his friend.
