Ok... how had he decided upon this one again? Hardiness, fearlessness, climbing... he couldn't do a normal climbing class to cover that stuff so he had considered mountain climbing. There wasn't a mountain about though that he could use, a shame as it would be a bit better then what he was planning to climb... Orpheus gave a whistle, D-corp was a lot taller then had thought it was, thirty something stories didn't sound THAT tall until you were standing at the foot of the building looking up.

Well at least all his old climbing equipment was getting used again since he had to quit his old... erm... job. He had tested it all out before he even considered letting a student use it as he didn't want his students harmed when in his care. So he had sent Ligeia up to attach the ropes securely on the roof, tested them by climbing up and down a couple stories. They were ready and could hold Vorel's weight as they tested it so they would be fine with holding up him and his student. He just had to wait now for the boy to show up.

And hope that the kids parent did kick his backside from the climbing he was having Donat do...

Waiting up on the roof for them to reach the top were Ligeia and Vorel, their cold weather cheerleaders.

Kumoru lead Donat up to the D-corp headquarters and was about to go through the doorway when he noticed the man setting up climbing equipment outside. His son was supposed to take a class here today in climbing; was this what the teacher had in mind?

"Mister... Solon?" the mage asked the man as they approached, fishing in his memory for a moment for the name of the instructor who had been listed for Donat's class.

The goat looked the building up and down, and then at the ropes. Did he get to climb the whole building? He felt a little dizzy, looking straight up to the top, but a grin spread across his features nonetheless. It would be so awesome to tell his friends like Chath and Olly that he had climbed D-corp!

"Hiya!" he greeted the man he presumed to be the instructor.

Excellent, here they were right on time. Now to hope that things went well with the kid's parent, "Yes, I am Mr. Solon call me Orpheus though." Formality was lost on the redhaired teacher, he'd never seen the point of it where he was concerned since he wasn't really a strict teacher or a strict person in general, "You must be Donat's father?" He didn't get the parent's name down, something he really had to work on, normally remembering the child's name, species, and skill was what he stuck too.

He turned to said student and gave him a smile, "Hello Donat."

Eleven years of formal schooling by mages had given Kumoru a rather strong sense of etiquette that he could rarely shake even with conscious effort. He tucked his hands into the sleeves of his robes and bowed at the waist to Orpheus as he introduced himself: "I'm Asahi Kumoru, and yes, I've been taking care of Donat."

When he straightened, he glanced up again at the climbing equipment and the ropes heading up the face of the building. "So, what did you have in mind for Donat's lesson today?" he asked, though the mage thought he had a pretty good idea already.

"We going all the way to the top?" Donat asked excitedly. Then he glanced at his father, and quickly mirrored his bow; clearly the mage's mannerisms were being passed onto his children, strange as it was for the perky little goat boy to be bowing.

"Oh, and very pleased to meet you, Mister Orpheus!"

Orpheus watched the mage bow, about to say that it wasn't something that he needed to do but bit his tongue. Some people had more of a formal way of doing things then him, most people really. He gave a nod, "Its good to meet you." He said, turning to motion to the ropes suspended from the building, "Ahh... you see the class before you, a climbing class." He said, fully expecting the guy to turn the other way and leave with Donat.

"Its good to meet you as well Donat." He gave a motion to the building, "If you look very closely at the top of the building you will see a pair waiting for us at the top." He told the goat child, "They are up there to cheer us on."

Hard to tell since it was so far up but it was possible to see someone leaning over the edge, looking down at them.

Kumoru crossed his arms and asked, "Are you sure this is safe?" like it was a reflex.

Shading his eyes with one hand, Donat squinted to try to make out who was at the top. He could not quite see them, but he waved with his other hand anyway. Then he curled his fingers around one of the ropes, looking at it, looking up it, then tugging on it a little.

Orpheus nodded his head, "Perfectly safe. He will be wearing a climbing harness and the ropes were stress tested both by me climbing up and down on them in a test and then again but seeing if they could hold the weight for Vorel." He said, "Ahh, Vorel is a dragon." He figured he should explain what that meant."

The necromancer scowled a moment more, then gave in with a sigh and a nod. He had to admit he knew nothing about climbing like this, so it was probably best to just trust Orpheus, since he seemed to know what he was doing.

"Alright. Just as long as I do not need a spatula to take my boy home after all of this."

Donat giggled at his father. "It'll be fine. I think I can do it." He had to, so he could totally tell all his friends. And seriously, it did not look like a bad climb at all!

Orpheus gave the mage a look then shook his head to return to his normally good mood not wanting the man's words to bother him, "Things will go fine." They always did unless he was teaching something how to fly and as Donat had no wings, "I have done quite a bit of building climbing so I can assure you that I know what I am doing."

He turned to Donat then, "Alright, first we have to get your harnessed up and then we can get ready to start on up. If at any time you don't want to keep going we can go back down." He told him, just in case it ended up the goat didn't like heights.

"Alright," Kumoru said, rather reassured, but still understandably worried. "I'll wait around a little while at least, I guess, to make sure Donat will be alright, and then I have some errands to run." He glanced away and added under his breath, "We have another baby coming to the house soon; need to prepare."

Donat stepped up closer to his teacher, already paying full attention. He nodded a little at Mister Orpheus's words, and assured him, "I want to go all the way to the top."

Orpheus got the smaller of the two harnesses handing it to Donat, then put on his own to demonstrate how they went on. He would check it over after he put it on and tighten it once he was done, just to make sure then they would get ready to start on up the ropes.

"Alright, all the way to the top. Then we can celebrate by spitting off the top of the building." He may or may not be joking, it was hard to tell.
PostPosted: Fri Nov 17, 2006 10:26 pm

Donat fumbled with the harness, trying to match how Mister Orpheus did it in spite of his own lack of thumbs. It was hard, but the whole no-thumbs thing did not get him down as much as one might think. He managed, then checked his own against the teacher's again to be sure he had it right.

The goat had to giggle at Mister Orpheus's suggestion, though. "Okay," he said with a grin. "We can do that."

Kumoru sighed, then glanced up as he wondered what the chances of being hit by said spit would be if he remained standing down below. Maybe he should make sure he was gone when they were spitting. ... Or wait, maybe there was enough of a breeze that there would be no chance of being hit by saliva from thirty stories up.

Still, though, there was that part of Kumoru that loved Donat as though he truly were his own blood son, and that part said that he most definitely had to be standing there cheering when Donat made it to the top of that building.

Maybe he could coordinate his shopping so he would be back in time for the grand finale. Spit or shine.

Orpheus knelt down to look the harness over and only had to tighten it as Donat had gotten it on the right way, "Good job." He told the boy then walked over to the ropes, "Any side in particular that you want?" It really didn't matter to Orpheus but one never knew, maybe Donat would preferr left to right? Or vise versa?

Donat stood facing the wall for a moment. He looked over his right shoulder, then over his left. "I think I'll take left side," he told his teacher. "It hurts my back a little less to look really far that way."

"Oh yeah, he has a bit of a back problem," Kumoru stepped in to tell Orpheus. He wondered where all this worrying was coming from. "Nothing too serious, but just so you know. Doesn't usually bother him unless he's walking a lot."

"Left is all yours." He told Donat before looking over at Kumoru as he spoke, nodding, "I will keep a close eye on him and make sure he doesn't over exert himself."

He would hate to think that a child got hurt in his class, he tried to avoid injuries best as he could since he wanted his students to stay healthy and happy, he lead the way to the ropes and attached Donat to his, "Alright, want to try a little while I am still on the ground?" He asked of the goat child.

"You have this here." He pointed to the clasp that attached Donat's harness to the rope, "You climb up a ways, pause, and pull it up along with you, that way if you lose your grip you won't fall far and you will be attached to the rope."

(( >_< I don't know the techincal terms. *fails at climbing* LOL I've seen this sort of climbing on TV though a lot so I can see it in my head how it works... >_>;; hehe But at least if I don't know what I am talking about Orpheus does. hehe ))
