A small snort came from a previously snoozing Malu. Twitching her nose, the freckled femme blinked her eyes grogily and gazed down her muzzle at the seemingly gilded leaf that danced lazily in front of her.
"Yeah yeah..." she mumbled to the fallen bit of vegetation. Raising her head, ears flicking about, she looked about for nothing in particular...and was only met with nothing but sunshin, stone, and flame hued leaves from the whispering tree above her.
With a thump, she let her head fall back onto her paws. "There is nothing to do...ever."

Larkin was quite pleased to see only sun and stone. He was not so pleased that summer seemed to be at an end, but by staying between the rocks and the sun or by lighting fires he stayed as hot as he wanted to. He trotted through the temple courtyards and over rooftops, looking for a spot that was simultaneously sheltered from the wind and fully open to the sun.
Suddenly he thought he saw a fire up ahead. He picked up his pace and scrambled eagerly over a wall, but when the fire was in view he saw that it was actually a tree with red foliage. He slowly wandered over to it, smiling ruefully.

The dry steps upon equally dry stone caught the Malu's ear. Raising her head a bit, she caught sight of another, larger, Malu.
Letting a brow rise, she curiously, but silently watched the other approach, only guessing that she herself hadn't been noticed yet.

He stopped before reaching the shadow cast by the tree, and it was only then that he actually noticed the pale colored Malu near its base. Blinking he raised his eyebrows back at her, then nodded his greeting. "I was sure this tree was a fire," he said by way of explaining his sudden and somewhat awkward approach. "Looks like one from far away."

Pale yellow eyes flicked to the other's face before a small smirkish smile crossed her muzzle. "It tends to do that sometimes, but I can asure you that it is obviously not on fire. Everyone would know, believe me, if it was."

Nodding in agreement he picked his way around the stones until he found a comfortable place to settle down. Squinting up at the leaves he smiled, remembering fondly the forest fire a while ago. It wouldn't be a very good idea to start a forest fire himself, but if it was there already... He half-hooded his green eyes and looked back down at the female. "What's your name?"

The femme cast an upwards, sideways glance at the tree above her, its colors immediatly filling her with a warmth and comfort unknown by others.
At the question, her attention soon went back to the now seated Malu. "Enoa. And your name is...?" she threw the question back at him.

"Larkin." He stretched his wings and enjoyed the feeling of the sun on his back, no longer looking at Enoa. The tree seemed to block any breeze there was pretty well, so he thought he'd stay here until the sun was low enough that he'd need to retire inside. It didn't concern him to be sitting near another Malu and not talking. Silences never seemed awkward to Larkin.

Well, on this day, the awkward silences, which were usually caused by Enoa, weren't to be completely tolerated.
Flicking a silence-filled ear, pale eyes roved the area around her until they fell upon an acorn. Its small, glossy brown shell just shined out to the femme from under a crimson leaf a few inches away.
Raising a brow, she gave a sideways glance at the Malu called Larkin, and then moved the acorn in front of her. With a quick movement of her front paw, she flicked the said acorn towards the other's head, and quickly pretended to be inspecting the tree again.

When something bounced off of his head he stretched out his paw and clamped it down on the object before it could roll away. He brought it closer and inspected it. An acorn? He instinctively looked up, thinking that the tree had dropped it on him, but he was too far away for that to be the case. Then he looked to the side at Enoa. He blinked, raising his eyebrows, then smiled to himself and flung it back at her, saying, "That was a good shot."

Head snapped to Larkin. "What was?" she asked before looking down at her leg as the acorn hit it. "Do not be throwing things at me."

"Oh, right. It must have been... a squirrel. My apologies." He didn't sound too sarcastic. Only a tiny bit. And he was still smiling. "Either a squirrel, or the tree has a longer reach than I thought."

Enoa smirked. "Do not underestimate the reach of my Goddess's tree...or the squirrel's for that matter. They are tricky animals."
Shifting her weight, she began to secretly fidget with another acorn. When the time was right...

He nodded. Enoa seemed to be somewhat contrary and he didn't feel like arguing. "Who is your goddess then?"

"The Goddess of Autumn. Yours?" She asked, but already had an idea of what it was.
