He's not comming and I'm just ganna be stuck this way forever, the end... I've been having contractions for about a month now, and it's still not doing anything... stare

I had another doctor's apointment today... I'm still only at a 1, 50% efaced, and he's at a -1... but she can push him back up... I'm just never ganna have him, and that's all there is to it... oh, and to make things worse, she says he's probably about 8 lbs right now... and I have a week to go... Then they are going to discuss inducing me, because if I don't have him soon, he'll be too big to have... and I'll have to have a C-section... I really don't want them to cut me open... but I wanted to do this totaly naturaly too... and the doctors making him come isn't natural...

Are you really at 39 weeks? "Too overdue" is actually 42 weeks. You have some time.

ABSOLUTELY, Don't let them pressure you into an induction with talk of a C-section. The Maternal-Fetal specialist told me that my baby was probably close to 9lbs.

She turned out to be 7lbs 12oz. Also just about any healthy woman can deliver a baby up to 11lbs no problems (no EXTRA extenuating problems I mean I tore with BOTH kids and they were 7lbs).

My Midwife was ABSOLUTELY AGAINST inducing and so was the OB who consulted with them. She said there was absolutely no reason to induce me even when I was two days late because ultrasounds are not an accurate predictor of baby weight even in the the best hands.

I know it seems like you will be pregnant forever but you want. I was 75 percent effaced and dialated to 3 centimenters with a lost mucus plug FOREVER Every time I had a midwife appointment they'd say "We know you think we're crazy but REALLY you could just go at any time."

It's really up to the baby when they come. Your body can be ready all it want but the baby actually sends chemical messages to your system to start labor. As long as you're not past 42 weeks put your foot down tell them they're full of it and don't let them bully you.

I think Nopen covered it really well when it comes to OBs predicting birth weight; the truth is, they can't do it that accurately so there's nothing to be worried about. Unless you're over 41 weeks and approaching 42, I'd wait and see what happens. You're not over due, as far as we know you have no health complications like gestational diabetes or high blood pressure that make it so you can't go as long as you need and warrant action be taken. So next time your doctor starts talking about inducing, just tell her you want to wait and see what happens.

An 8 pound baby isn't big at all. confused Definitely not big enough to be causing you worry that you won't be able to deliver him.

As for the natural thing, if that's what you want, go for it. HOWEVER, be flexible enough to realize you can't predict what's going to happen and sometimes you need an intervention of some sort, or you just plain change your mind in the process. And that's OK. Nothing to be dissappointed or ashamed of. Giving birth 'un naturally' is no less valid then a natural one. They both acheive the same end: a healthy baby. And that's what's really important. 3nodding

I know that I may not be able to do this naturaly if there are any complacations, and I'm not going to indanger my son just so it's natural... I would just rather do it that way...

Yes, I'm 39 weeks... I think the doctors around here are just induceing happy... >.> Really they are... One of my good friends just had her baby two weeks ago, and they induced her.. five days early, because the doctor was going out of town... They like to schedual them around THEIR time, not when the baby wants to come... They like them to be born very close to the due date, and they will MAKE it happen around here. I don't like it and really don't want to be induced... and it's been a healthy pregnancy, I don't have any problems or anything, well, I have a bad hip, but that's not going to be a problem, the physical therapist says that if anything, it will help because it will strech out extra because the tendens are so loose... they just want me to have him right around the due date...

Although the braxton hicks contractions are getting anoying and my hips are killing me from the added weight and I'm just tired in general-not to mention how I'm extremly curious what he will look like... I'm not That desprate to have him out yet... I want him to be healthy above all, and if that means staying in longer, than they should let him...

Ugh... My family is driving me crazy again... I honestly thought once I was an adult this would stop, but I don't think it will EVER stop as long as we are alive... stare
I know they mean well, but they are driving me crazy...
My step-dad keeps telling me all about how I'm going to have a c-section, and that I'm not going to be able to give birth... I've been ignoring him because I know that three of his four children were c-section, so he thinks that's more normal, and should be expected... (the three that were c-section were not by my mother, the one that was natural was my mom's...)
But then today, my mom (who had three children naturaly with no problem) says that I may have to have a c-section because my hips are narrow and the baby could have a big round head like his father...
I know that with any pregnancy there is a chance of having to have a c-section, but I really don't want to think of that chance... If I have to then obviously there would be nothing I could do, I would have to... but I just want to leave that alone unless it's nesesary... I don't want to hear it... and they won't shut up about it! scream
The doctors haven't voiced any conserns about this, but maybe that's why they want to induce me next week even though I'll only be 39 1/2 weeks?? I don't know... I'm just frustrated and I wish I would just go into labor now... if nothing else just to make them stop thinking I can't or somthing... crying But there's nothing I can do, I'm not dialated enough for anything to work.. and the only thing I've heard of that can make your cervix soften and start to dialate if it's ready is sex, and I don't exactly have a way for that to happen *sigh*

Just stick to your guns and make them look foolish with facts.

Tell them that the pelvic ligaments loosen up to a full 3 centimeters during pregnancy and that if they recall that whole thing about dialation that the cervix itself will be getting plenty big enough to let a child pass through. As well as the fact that in a woman the pelvic bones are not fused but floating. Your baby would have to be SERIOUSLY HUGE and your pelvic seat would have to be SERIOUSLY small to force a C-section based on "baby being too big".

Tell them C-sections are not "normal" that they are EMERGENCIES. And simply being pregnant and having a baby are NOT emergencies nor are they "Medical Conditions". Ask them if they are hoping something will go wrong with your labor that you'll need your abdominal wall sliced open. XD

I got so tired of my mother in law calling every single day after I was past due with the first baby (I went to 42 weeks). Asking me if I had had her yet.

Actually we got back from the hospital over 24 hours ago. We were going to call you in a week after we'd settled in. XD

*hugs*
I'm sorry your family is being obnoxious. I think some people don't realize what they do when they open their mouth.

I have seen many people who say "My baby is already over 8 pounds!" and then when they have it, it's like barely seven.

Try not to stress too much. heart

Thanks ^_^;; I'll let you guys know in a few days how big he is... They are going to put some sort of cream on me to make me dialate... I've been having strong contractions (this morning at the hospital they were off the charts... >.< ) for around a month now, so if they put the stuff on me to make me dialate, I'm ganna end up having him probably tonight or in the morning... So cross your fingers for me and I'll report back lol.
PostPosted: Tue Nov 21, 2006 10:55 pm

Ok, fist let me say this... crying crying crying Ok, I feel better now lol. sweatdrop

Doctors are annoying... stare My doc said on Thursday that if I hadn't had the baby by my apt. on Tuesday that she would use a jell to start me dilating because my son is very large (she said about eight pounds on Thursday) and she didn't want me to go over due because he will just get even bigger and harder to have... So after having contractions on and off for over a month (not to mention three false trips to the hospital), I go in to this appointment all ready for her to start me dilating so that the contractions will be actually doing something instead of just hurting!

Last night around 11, my mother and grandmother finally convince me to go to the hospital, because I had been having contractions all day long that were lasting about a minute or so each, and they weren't totally going away before the next one would start. My family has a history of having very quick births (My aunt had my cousin in about fifteen minutes and she was frank breach and it was her first child, and she hadn't felt ANY labor pains, just a back ach. My mom had me in an hour, I was nine pounds, three ounces and she felt three contractions with me. My grandmother (who's five-five) had four babies-all between seven to eight pounds. My mom didn't have any contractions with my brother, she was dilated to a 10 and they said that because she wasn't having contractions she would have to have a C-section and she said 'Like hell I am!' and pushed him out WITHOUT contractions. eek ) they were afraid I would deliver at home if we didn't go soon. I had been arguing all day long that it didn't matter and I wasn't having him last night, they said they would feel better if I went in, after arguing with them for hours I finally gave in.

I got to the hospital and they checked me, said I was only dilated to a one (still) and hooked me up to the monitor for a while. I told them 'I told you so' and they laughed. The contractions were up off the chart and very consistent (at least they didn't stop like last time I went to the hospital 3nodding ) They told me that they wanted me to walk around for a few hours and they would check to see if I had any progress. (by this time it was one A.M. confused ) So after walking laps around the hospital for two hours and seeing the four babies that had been delivered in the last day (the biggest one was six and a half pounds TINY BABYS!!! (Ok, so it's normal, but they seem tiny lol) they came back and checked me, told me nothing had changed, told me to go to my appointment in a few hours.

I went in to the doctors appointment and the doctor comes in and checks me (the third time I had to be checked today >.< ) and tells me that I'm only dilated to a one-same as I was two weeks ago...and at the hospital... I say 'Ok, well that's ok because your going to start me dilating right?' and she tells me that she messed up and that my insurance will not pay for me to have that done until I'm a week overdue at the very soonest.

crying stressed crying

You're going to drive yourself crazy if you keep believing family history has anything to do with how your labor will go and form expectations based on it. It means SQUAT. I think it's already clear that how your mother and grandmother's labors went is not how yours has been going. So let it happen in its own way and accept it for what it is. ;]

So Relax. razz It helps the process along. It really does. Being too tense can slow things down.

Your baby will come when your baby is ready and in his own way.

And if your doctor is correct, eight pounds is not that big at all. I'm 5'2" and my first was 1/4 pound under 8. He was born just fine. Your body is almost guaranteed not going to make a baby that is too big for you to birth. I think the figure for when it actually happens is something under 10%. It's not common at all, despite the hysteria some physicians try to invoke with telling you your baby is huge.

Just wait and see what happens.

No change, I'm still only partially dialated to a one... not enough to strip the membranes, my next apointment is in four days, then we will see if there is any change and maybe do the membrane stripping then... and if there is no change by either thursday night or friday morning next week then we will do the gel... confused
