The early morning quiet was pierced only by the steps of a lanky figure, the well-used, but still in good condition sneakers making a somewhat squeaky sound as their owner plodded up the hill. Nakia Ma'at was a newcomer to Marcelles, having arrived just an hour before. The lanky girl couldn't have been older than thirteen, with the majority of her hair hidden by the deep hood of her black and red striped hoodie, yet her bleach-blonde bangs could be seen hiding her already shadowed sapphire eyes. Her face was set with what seemed to be a permanent frown, her eyes shifting warily from place to place...as if she was afraid someone would see her. She cursed quietly as a bush snagged at her baggy forest camo pants. Nakia quickly untangled the offending object from her pants and continued up the hill...towards the Samhain family home.

It was yet another early day for Bennu. This time, the curly haired girl was going to be finishing the drywall in one room, then going out job-hunting. Oh how she needed a job...She sighed as she rinsed her ceral bowl out, tucking a loose strand of dark blue-violet hair behind her ear; the rest was secured in a messy bun today. And it was then that something unusual caught her eye. There was someone coming up the hill, towards her place...She blinked. That was certainly odd...Bennu quickly went from the kitchen to the entryway, thankful she had pulled on a band t-shirt and shorts today instead of her pajamas like she normally did for breakfast.

Nakia reached the large entry doors and reached out tentatively to knock...But pulled back. Should she really be doing this? Was it really a good idea to be so far from home...She shook her head. The place hadn't been home...ever. No one there cared about her...Her best chance was with someone who might understand her; that's what sisters were about, right? And she had tracked the girl she KNEW to be her elder half-sister to this place. She wasn't going to turn back now.
With a steadier hand, she rapped on the door, shaking her hand afterward. Wood doors HURT!

Bennu answered the door, blinking at the kid in front of her. The dark-skinned girl was a good six inches shorter than her, and looked like a frightened animal of some sort with the way she stood. "Uhmmm...Can I help you?" Bennu wasn't used to guests, certainly not people who were obviously younger than her.

Nakia looked up at Bennu through her bleached bangs. She bit her bottom lip lightly, then spoke in a fairly quiet, unsure voice. "I-I'm Nakia Ma'at. I think I have the right address...You are Bennu Samhain, right? I came a this way to find you and...well...I...Your father is Heru Ma'at, right?" She kept shifting from one foot to the other, obviously nervous. Now that she was face to face with the elder girl...the whoe experience was kind of intimidating...even more so than sleeping in bus stations and rail cars...

Bennu blinked, nodding when the girl asked if she was indeed Bennu. And then she heard Nakia say HIS name. "How do you know him? And why are you asking?" She hadn't heard that name spoken in such a long time. She thought about what her father might be doing in passing, but never mentioned it to anyone. And most people she knew didn't even have a clue of who the girl's father was. The sapphire-eyed girl sighed and ushered Nakia into the house. "Here, let's get you something warm to drink. You look like you're famished, so I'll take you out after you tell me your story, sweetie."

After the older girl had Nakia all settled, she took a deep breath, looking at the interior as she talked. "Well...Heru Ma'at is my father. Making you my older half-sister. I found out about you a couple years ago. You see...my parents don't exactly pay much attention to me, and I don't have anyone who understands me...So I thought 'Hey, sisters are supposed to understand each other, right?' So...I tracked you down and came here." She shifted in the chair, feeling uncomfortable now. What if...what if Bennu didn't accept her? What if she had to go BACK to her parents? They certainly wouldn't be happy with her escapade...

Bennu blinked. She had half a mind to turn the girl back around and march her to her parents...But something wouldn't let her. She sat on the arm of the overstuffed chair she had gotten Nakia settled in, and ruffled the girl's hair. "I'm not sure what to do with you right now, but you can at least stay a couple of nights while I sort my thoughts out. It's nice that you thought I could help you..." She stood up, putting her plans aside for the day. "You know what...After you're done drinking that, let's go out and get something to eat. I know a bakery that has the most wonderful sweets and good looking people working there. Ultimate pick-me-up, if you ask me! And Annette! She's just adorable!" With that, she rushed to her room. She was going to dress up today! After all, not everyday you find out you have more family!

Nakia blinked as Bennu went off to her room. Wait...Go out...that meant one thing in the girl's mind: PEOPLE! Nakia was scared of most people. She gulped down her drink and put her hood back on her head, hiding in herself the best she could. Not people...oh dear God, not people...But it seemed her sister was determined to take her out...and hey, free food! And sweets! Nakia LOVED sweets. Well...dark chocolate was more of a bitter food than a sweet...

Bennu came into the room, wearing a black peasant blouse with a dark blue bodice with silver 'cloud' embroidery, a flowing dark blue skirt, and black dress boots. Her hair was pulled back into a loose ponytail, with many strands escaping to cascade over her shoulders. "Alrighty! Eh? Don't worry, everyone there is friendly...unless that artist woman who wants to buy Audley's shop is there...But no worries!" She pulled Nakia up and lead her outside.

Nakia cringed as she was led out. "Uh...B-Bennu...I'm not exactly a-" She stopped when she noticed the view the house had. "Oh...wow..." -[ O+o; I can't think of more to type in this thread...I think we're done... ]-
