Full Monty
By Craig Tello
November 16, 2006

When former NFL star Monty Brown explodes into action for the first time in a WWE ring, it will be the fulfillment of one of two very vast childhood dreams.

“I had two dreams as a kid,” Brown told WWE.com. “One was to become a professional football player; the other was to become a WWE Superstar. How many people can say they actually lived out both dreams?”

For someone who once crafted their own WWE Championship in junior high school, Brown claimed that signing with WWE is something he swore he would accomplish some day.

“[My classmates and I] made what we called the Wood Class Championship,” Brown reflected. “I still have that belt to this day. I felt that one day I would be working for this company.”

Growing up in a bedroom with wall-to-wall wrestling legends, Brown said that he engulfed his room with posters of greats such as Ricky Steamboat, Mike Rotundo and Harley Race – on one wall. On a separate wall, all to himself was the 16-time World Champion Ric Flair, a man Brown could potentially be meeting one-on-one once he begins his WWE career.

“[In WWE], the competition is deep,” admitted Brown. “But, if you don’t want to be involved with the best on the planet and be involved in a competitive atmosphere, you don’t do what you do. You choose to do something else.”

The thick-framed Brown is no stranger to competition. A collegiate All-American and also former NFL linebacker for both the Buffalo Bills and the New England Patriots, Brown has competed in Super Bowl games for both franchises.

Following his football career, Brown trained extensively towards his goal of reaching WWE. Under the guidance of the former WWE Superstar Dan Severn and the Suicidal, Homicidal, Genocidal, Death-Defying Maniac Sabu, Brown is prepared to blast through Raw, SmackDown or ECW with his unique style.

“This is something I’ve been looking forward to for a long time,” Brown claimed. “I’m pretty much going to bring a no-nonsense, hard-hitting, take-no-prisoners linebacker style with just a straight-ahead, destroyer-type mentality.”

Despite his confidence in his abilities, Brown said that before he makes his in-ring debut, he will continue to eat, breathe and sleep this business as he closely studies tape after tape of WWE action with his notebook in hand.

“Coming to WWE is a definite blessing and a privilege,” he said. “To come and work for the Mecca of all Meccas, I’m just anxious to start. I’m looking forward to getting in the mix and being part of the WWE family,” Brown added.

“Monty Brown is definitely on his way.”

Some comments:
1. Was wondering if he was going to jump to WWE. The guy's been absent from TNA events for quite a while. Anyone know the story behind that?

2. I love how they don't mention anything about working for TNA. stare

yes, as pointed out before, Vince's head is too damn big to be thinking about bringing up that Brown was part of another fed. I mean come on, he does this a lot...I guess he really wants to be the superpower of wrestling and it is pissing off the hardworking fed owners...Invasion, anyone?

Supposedly, Monty was pissed at TNA for not giving him a decent push anymore (and despite his lame finisher, I think he deserved one again) and was just dissatisfied with TNA in general. He finished whatever dates he was obligated to, cuz he's professional like that, and then severed his ties of TNA. Of course, WWE takes interest cuz Monty Brown is pretty charismatic and, y'know, he's a big muscle-ly man........you know how Vince likes big burly strong-men.

I think he's going to be yet another one of the mid-level talent guys that keep bouncing around. There's just too much talent and not enough air-time anymore. Even with effectively 6 hours of time, Vince is hard-pressed to find good things for everyone on the roster. TNA is so limited with just 1 hour, that i'm not surprised Monty left. There'll be more, i'm sure. And their places will be filled with people that Vince has pissed off for one reason or another.

I personally liked the fact that Brown was one of the more tougher guys in TNA, I mean think about it, he was a superpower in TNA before his release, squaring off against guys like Joe, Killings, Raven, Abyss etc. But once he hits WWE, I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if he gets screwed over and forms a tag team with someone like Lashley or something

If that were the case, they'd be known as S&S: Serengeti and Sloppy. 3nodding

Wow, did that suck. I just watched Monty Brown make his ECW debut, as another name obviously. BLAH! The crowd was thoroughly un-interested...he wasn't fooling anyone. Probably 90% of the people there know exactly who he was and where he came from. The other 10% just plain don't care. Bad match, obviously scripted commentary, no chemistry with the crowd. I would like to predict that he'll be gone within the year, but i think Vince is going to force-feed him to the masses just like several other of his big name stars.

I agree Wolf-Eye. Judging from his match on ECW,he's not gonna make it big.

That's just the thing though. Monty left TNA to come to WWE. I'm not certain of all the reasons but Vince must have guaranteed at least a little lime-light. Unless he pulls the crowd behind him quick, he may be booted before he knows it. At least he isn't doing the annoying cat-screech thing with the "Alpha Male" gimmick.
