Present Day:

Name: Svetlana Alekseeva
Nicknames: Sveta, Millie, Alex (rarely).
Title: Svetlana the Hangman's Jewel
Age:
Gender: Female

Hair: Dark brown and curly [not dyed]
Eyes: Green eyes [natural]
Skin: Fair skin [no freckles]
Build: She barely can fill a B-cup, stands around 5'6'', and is of average frame [not too skinny, but still has a dancing body].
Etc.: One hole in each ear (loves dangly earrings). No tattoos. When off stage, she dresses in a variety of styles, but they all are comfortable to her. Should someone pass her on the street, they probably wouldn't guess her profession or interests.

Personality: [Very rough, as I don't want to give too much away.]A good way to describe Svetlana would be that she is multi-faceted because her personality depends on the situation and people around her, just like a gem's appearance depends on how the light reflects off the gem's many faces. It's not to say that she's unstable, but it is rather predictable that she will 'elaborate' and even slip into another character due to her love of performing. Be it performing dances, cooking for someone, or telling someone an elaborate story about her past, which may or may not be true.

However, she does not consider herself to be an outright liar because there is always truth in each and every one of her stories, and there's usually a good bit of it too. Remember, all life's a stage.

One other thing that is certain, Sveta hates being tied down to a particular place or person due to her lifestyle. She considers herself very self-reliant and has no need for long term relationships of any kind. This includes friendships as well. The many versions of stories about her past seem to not only be a source of entertainment, but a way to distance her true self from people.

With so many costumes and faces (both literally and figuratively), the young Russian uses her rituals and shows to stay in touch with herself. It is one of the few things Sveta feels safe being herself during in front of other people.

That being said, it is unsurprisingly difficult to rile Sveta up, but there are always buttons that can be pushed.

Likes: Travelling, people, originality, purple & red Skittles, vintage styles (early 1900s), snow, Baklava, and body paint.
Dislikes: Her passport picture, rainy days, Americanized food (fast food joints especially), judgemental people, and green peas.

Backround:

Ten years ago, a Russian couple were hit head on by a drunk driver in a semi. They died instantly, leaving behind thousands of dollars in debt and three children, two girls and a boy. With the rest of the family either deceased or in Russia, the three went into New York's foster system. There was a slim chance that both girls and the brother would be adopted by the same family, and each of them dreaded that result.

The three clung to each other during this limbo, but before their wounds could heal, a young couple adopted the eldest girl. She never saw her siblings again. Less than a year later, she ran away from her new home for reasons unknown even to those she now calls friends. There are many versions, and each contained a sliver or so of truth to it. However, they remained as myths and tall tales did, distorted and entertaining. No one ever gave them too much thought.

Her resume from that day forward was anything but dull, and she found solace in her 'controlled chaos' sort of lifestyle. Once on her own, the teenager became a self-sustaining woman as well as a renewable resource for other people's entertainment with her strange string of jobs. The only things that the jobs had in common were her and a unique experience each day for everyone she came in contact with.

She quickly found out that a knack for entertaining people (and in turn, brightening both their days), as well as a passion for traveling. Combining the two, the young woman never stayed in one place longer than a year or two, and therefore never held the same job for more than the time in which she stayed in situ. The lifestyle fit perfectly with her 'free spirit' attitude she had accumulated towards the world.

Along the meandering path she wandered, the young woman encountered a sort of hidden world of beauty (in her mind). Tattoos and piercings, though positively alluring works of art and celebrations of the human form, were always too permanent for her. Though, the rituals in which she exposed herself to ceased to be mere temporary body modifications, but invoked such an intense emotional reaction within her that she found herself unable to stay away.

It awoke a hunger inside her soul that was almost insatiable, and soon she began putting more and more time into the community spiritually and artistically. She was both literally and emotionally hooked.

Somehow or another, after a series of prerequisite events, the Russian American found herself at her happiest to date while she was a member of a traveling circus in Eastern Europe.

Of course, Murphy's Law could always be counted on, and once again she had found herself unemployed and stationary.

Up the Ranks:

[Warning, some of the links may be too graphic for some people. If you don't like piercings or are squeamish, I suggest not clicking them.]

The good thing about Svetlana is that she's very versatile, so even when she moves up the ranks she'll be able to 'sub' in for side show and/or make-up. She can do big, dazzling shows or smaller, intimate performances as well, depending on where she's needed. Regardless, most of her shows utilize grand make-up jobs, wigs, and elaborate costumes.

Before: She can help with grunt work, stage make-up, costume making, and pretty much anything other than poop scooping.

Sideshow: Svetlana is well versed and experienced in both performance dancing and ritual body modification. As far as sideshows are concerned, the young woman would lean more towards the latter. These would range from 'ball' dancing [x], suspensions [x], play piercing [x], and kavadi [x].

The Stage: Again, she is able to accommodate crowds of a variety of sizes. Burlesque would probably be the most appropriate for a small stage. What she strives to do is create a show that would incorporate both the burlesque style of dancing and skits with the dramatic and extreme art of suspension. She wants to present the latter as a thing of spirituality and beauty [hopefully] rather than as grotesque and disgusting.

OOC Notes:

-I have a good page or so of handwritten notes on Svetlana's backstory, but because of how I'm going to play her, I didn't put many of those details into the posted backstory. Bare with me if I get her, and it should make more sense then.

-Sveta has a knack for stretching the truth about her/events/etc. and seeing if other people with believe it. It's to the point where she's turned it into an art and/or a game, depending on how one looks at it. I plan on having her tell her own backstory for people to glean details from, both IC and OOC by keeping a running list of some kind on what she tells other Cirque characters.

Hopefully that makes some sense. There is always a base of truth in her stories, which is where the fun (in my opinion) comes in. She's had a rather interesting life, but that doesn't mean she's done it all.

-Personality is VERY roughly written atm. It's late and I wanted to jot something down.

-Critiques welcome. biggrin Just make them constructive.

-More later if I think of anything.

Ah, the "spiritual" side of modifications. The dancing sounds interesting, as does the kavadi. But there's not enough about Svetlana for me to give a real critique yet...so I'll be back later for that. 3nodding

I'd like to see what another would-be modification player thinks about my concept, as it includes some of the same elements. (it's in this forum, named Jessickah the Unfeeling Masochist. "Unfeeling" is quite literal, because her nerves don't transmit pain signals sweatdrop )

There will be common ties.

As far as details... I actually have them all written on paper in my desk drawer, but I because of her personality, I want to RP the details coming out. Especially with her past, which she never is 100% truthful on. Ever.

Blending is something I think will be hard, and it's more her idea and her trying to do it. She'll have to work out logistics and whatnot with people and continually trial and error, which will be fun to RP out. I do want her to have to work to get to that point. <3

Personality desperately needs to be rewritten, but as I just wrote a paper due tomorrow and have to get up in five hours... Eheheh. 8B;

As for details on the act... I know lots of people are squeamish, so while I know loads about the community (I'm a part of it, and know people who suspend personally), I doubt everyone wants to know gory details. Plus, PG-13 site right? XD; And as clarification, I haven't done a suspension as of yet (very slim maybe in the not near future of it happening), just piercings and tattoos really.

SO YAY SKIP AROUND.

I think there will be ties, though how much overlap depends on her. The more she talks and tells stories, the more information, and thus, overlap, everyone IC and OOC will get. If that makes sense?

Thanks for the crit lovely. <333
