Through dint of Dr. Smith's research work, the trio had found the general area where a scroll had been lost. Once past that site the trial simply grew cold. It was Dr. Smith's brilliant idea to do a dig at the site for more clues. A brilliant idea he quickly decided to administrate.

While hunting down the various permits, the three hit a rather uneasy snag. The ground they wanted to dig up was already owned. And by a naga, one of the few races that would extremely disturbed by someone trying to dig up her home. Still, they had to try.

As Nara and her partner approached the den in an attempt to persuade the woman (ha! Like they would have much luck) the relic suddenly grasped her partner's arm. The two shared a glance, understanding without words what was going on. It had suddenly become imperative they get permission to dig.

((I wasn't quite sure how a naga would set up it's den... Like a sort of hobbit hole? Naga's aren't quite my specialty.))

Guinevere rested atop her den, tail coiled beside her and torso resting against the heated surface of a large rock, allowing herself to enjoy one of life’s simple pleasures – basking. Since falling pregnant the naga hadn’t had much time for mere leisure between hormonal side effects and expansion of her abode, and thus was none to please at the interruption posed by two approaching figures. Although neither form had spoken Guinevere had sensed them coming from some distance away, minute vibrations reaching her through the earth, and found she was rather mystified as to why they were moving purposefully in her direction. The naga never received visitors, a result of limiting her contact with people in general, and those who ventured this far from the populated area usually had dark intentions.

“Who are you and what issss it that you want?” Guinevere hissed, her pallid countenance glowering down at Nara and her companion from above the dens entrance.

((Pretty much the same as a hobbit hole, although not quite as homely and neat inside. Guinevere has placed support beams around the place and timber flooring, but most of the walls as still simply exposed earth ^^))

From one pissed off woman to another. Much as she would have liked to sigh, Nara simply smiled instead. "Good afternoon m'am! I'm Nara from the Gaian branch of the Royal Liberary of Alexandria. Our reasearch shows that a very important scroll was last recorded. We'd like your permission to do a preliminary dig to see if we can uncover a record of what happened to it after that." The scroll dug around in her case for a moment before pulling out several pieces of paper.

"This is the charter, several documents verifying we are who we say we are, and a general area of where we'd need to dig. Of course, after seeing this place I'm pretty sure the area could be narrowed down by quite a bit." Nara continued to smile at the lady as she waited for a response.

Without shifting her gaze from the intruding pair, Guinevere slithered down the side of the mound that indicated her submerged home and moved to stand like a sentinel before her front door. At the mention of a scroll the naga’s eyes widened slightly, an action that only the most trained of observers would see – and even then it would be only if they were paying careful attention. Taking the papers and examining them with a careful eye, Guinevere couldn’t discount that the documents appeared official and therefore that Nara and her associate were indeed who they had claimed to be and belonged to the organisation they had stated.

“A ssssscroll you ssssay?” the woman replied, forked tongue slipping past her lips. “Brown canisssster and weathered paper?”. Turning her back on Nara and opening the door, Guinevere motioned for the pair to enter despite being rather uneasy about it. “Down the hall, fork on the left” she instructed, giving directions to the den’s main chamber. “There issss ssssomething upon the table you sssshould ssssee”

"Yes actually," Nara replied to the woman's description. These things really liked to cling to people. The group had yet to come across one just lying out on the open. Perhaps thats how they managed to migrate so easily.

Her smile widened to one of real pleasure. "Wonderful!" she exclaimed following the woman's directions. Once they got there the relic had to restrain herself from rushing at the scroll. That familar prickly sensation of a nearby scroll pricked at her fingers .

"Do you think you could take it out of the case for me?"

Guinevere followed hastily behind, having felt rather uncomfortable at having strangers discover her home and considerably more uneasy now they were within the confines of the den’s walls, reaching the central chamber moments behind Nara. Without a sound the naga moved to the low resting shelf upon which the excavated canister rested, lifting the object with gentle hands and moving to a polished wood table.

“Why issss it that thesssse sssscrollssss are sssso important?” the woman hissed, prying the top from the canister and removing the scroll from within. The paper was still as yellowed and fragile as it had been when Guinevere had discovered it, and with a curious expression and furrowed brow the document was extended toward Nara.

Nara just waved it towards the table, then clasped her hands together tightly. Smiling at the woman she explained, "Have you heard of the Royal Library of Alexandria?" Probably not, Nara mused. That was on Earth and naga's... well not too common. "It was a library filled with knowledge of the ancient world on Earth. Centuries ago it was destroyed in a fire and it's been.. a sort of legend in accademia. This scroll may possibly be from that library, an exciting find. All that knowledge, lost..." There was real regret in the woman's voice at the lose of the library.

Unfurling the scroll on the table, weighing it down in the corners with salt and pepper shakers, Guinevere straightened once more the listen to Nara’s question and subsequent explanation. “You ssssay the sssscroll’s contained lost knowledge?” the naga posed, glancing to manuscript and back to the woman standing before her. “What knowledge could the ancient earthlingssss have gained from a ssssimple depiction of a rainbow?” Guinevere continued, folding her arms across her chest.

Turning her crimson orbs back to the table, the woman pursed her lips in thought and concentration. “Doessss the text mean ssssomething ssssignificant?” she added after a moment of silence.

Nara shrugged, a tad awkwardly. "Well.. There's one way to find out," she muttered to herself. The pair made a strange shuffle around to crowd the table. As the Relic had learned, it was easier for Mr. Mysterious and herself to move around than to get the adults to.

The moment the two stepped into place, Nara's hands dissolved in a bright green mist. It wrapped around the three hiding their sight before reaching out and connecting each of them in an equilateral triangle. With a whoomph of displaced air the table shook slightly.

After that the mist slowly began to clear as Nara's hands returned to normal. Staggering back a step the woman slowly shook her head, while taking deep breaths.

((My tablet is dying and I have finals so the work is going very slowly. I have to fight to get my tablet to work and that seriously cuts down the time I can work. Aya has long blond hair, pale skin, and blue eyes. The pose is a pretty happy one and she looks around 1.5 to 2 years old. ))

Guinevere’s hidden suspicion and openly puzzled expression deepened as Nara and her mysterious companion moved around the roughly hewn table, their independent forms creating a triangle with the ancient scroll in the middle of the shape. The sudden movement from the pair set the naga ill-at-ease, although the sudden appearance of a green mist emanating from Nara’s hand dispelled any thoughts of moving or ushering the uninvited guests from her abode. With the brightness increasing into a blinding glow Guinevere lifted a pallid hand to shield her sensitive eyes, the woman was powerless to do all but wait until the spectacle dissipated and she was once more able to see before berating the pair with angered questions.

An abrupt whoosh of air, one that vibrated through every inch of the snake-woman’s frame, signalled the end of whatever had just transpired and slowly Guinevere opened her eyes. Shooting the cloaked man a scathing look and turning that same expression to Nara and, crossing her arms over her chest, the naga lifted herself higher upon her tail. With her forked tongue flickering angrily past her lips Guinevere opened her mouth to speak, the impending verbal onslaught halted by the sound of infantile babbling from the table. Shifting her gaze caused the furious expression to disappear from Guinevere’s visage, replaced instead with the puzzled expression she had worn earlier.

“W…what happ…? Where did sssshe come from?” the woman asked, motioning a shaky hand in the direction of the young girl upon the table.

For several long moments the scroll took time to catch her breath. Idly massaging her hands she stared at the naga for a moment. Shaking her head with a start Nara began to explain, "She came from the scroll. Long ago on a place called Earth, dimensions away from this one, someone started sealing kids up in scrolls. They were never meant to stay that way but an accident.. messed up the relic needed to unseal them. It kinda merged with me so I have to go around unsealing all the kids."

Nara flashed a smile at the woman. "I'm the only one that can tell if they are real or not and by the time I get that close I have to unseal them," the woman hesitated, "It is your scroll... you can keep her or we can take her back to the Musaeum with us."

Someone started sealing child in scrolls…?, the naga repeated, rather mystified at the very thought despite the proof on the table before her. What possible reason would someone have to seal a helpless child into a scrap of frayed parchment? Guinevere shook her head, abhorred by the very notion, frowning openly at Nara as she contemplated how one becomes merged with a relic. “Why exactly were they ssssealed in the firsssst place?” the woman hissed, speaking the question that danced through her mind, “and how wassss it that you became merged with thissss relic?”

Upon being as the question, Guinevere’s expression became one of open surprise. She had been suspecting that she would have little say in what happened to the girl seeing as Nara and her companion had come seeking the scroll in the first place. “I have a choice…?” the naga murmured, turning her crimson orbs to the blonde-headed child once more. The infant certainly was a darling little thing and Guinevere didn’t want to think of her being raised in the potentially cold environment of the Musaeum. “I would like to keep her, raisssse her mysssself if I could” Guinevere replied, nodding faintly to herself as she did so.

Nara ignored the first question with the barest flicker of dark sorrow. Instead she replied to the woman's rather startled statement. "Of course you can," Nara replied. "The Musaeum's not the best enviornment for kids but I'd never let them go without a home." She smiled at the woman digging around for something in her pocket.

"What are you going to name her?" Nara asked as she tried to find the card.

Although her question had remained unanswered, Guinevere noted the darkening that followed her uttering and decided not to press the issue with the intriguing woman. Upon hearing that the child was free to remain within her care the naga appeared to brighten, her lips curling faintly upwards at the corners. “Aya” Guinevere replied without a moment’s hesitation as she was asked to name the fair-haired infant. Although the name was simple, uncompleted, and lacked the ‘s’ sounds that the woman so struggled with – it was still elegant and charming.

“Issss there anything I sssshould know? Anything sssspecial about thesssse children?” the woman enquired, wondering if there were particular needs or wants for infants such as Aya that other youngsters might not have.

Nara nodded. "Aya's a cute name. As for special needs... They seem to reflect their scroll once they've grown up a bit. And that's different for every child. None of the parents I've talked to have really noticed any difficulties before that though."

The relic smiled once again as she finally found the card. Handing it over to the woman she turned and tugged on her silent partner's sleeve. "We'll let you two get aqquainted then shall we?" Retracing their steps, the pair quickly left the building.

As they wanderd away Nara muttered to her partner, "Guess we didn't need those permits..."
