You all make it sound like I'm totally some big name, have my books in tons of stores and all that jazz.

I don't.

I got a little story/poem/anecdote in a big collection of teenage writers. The book was published, yes, and you can find it in Borders and Barnes and Noble, but, it's not actually mine. So, I am published. My book is not. sad

So.

Sorry I didn't tell you, I just didn't think it was that big of a deal. neutral Honestly. It's not.

I've also gotten a paper published, but we don't speak of that. sweatdrop

Hope that clears stuff up. heart

oh, I've heard of that kinda stuff!

My friend is in those too.

You mustn't SCARE us like that, Jub! I had millions of questions forming in my head about editors, publishers, and such.

But you can imagine our surprise. We heart you.

One of my friends is published, so you can ask me most any question about it. 3nodding Also, I've read up on this extensively when I courted ideas of getting published.

So ask away, Kirby. heart

I am published like that too! o.< In three books, I believe.

I will now commence tearing up B. Daltons for your submission. I will find it. Even if I don't know what it is.

My cousin's friend has an actual published book. She 'tis wonderful. Her name is Emily. I don't remember her last name, or the book. It was a mystery.

Although my friends have told me its there. whee

are editors evil? would they like my book? (it's called Ametris, in the works section) or, well...who are the best? how do you get published without an agent? would they publish a teenager?

O.O

I have had some poems and etc. published but never anything huge. I hope to change that soon though.

Hey, something you wrote is on store-shelves around the country. It may not have your name printed in bold across it, or be specifically about the segment you wrote, but it's a start!

All authors have to start somewhere. Besides those bastards like J.K. Rowling who can make masterpieces while loading up on some coffee. (I'm not insulting her; Just extremely jealous of her talent.)

And does anyone know if publishers accept stories in the form of plays, theatrical scripts, etc? You know, if I ever decided to make a Wingless novel in that form... just curious.

To writers, editors are evil. (I had one for a while heart I miss her so) They force us to actually WRITE, not lay around complaining of writer's block. They need your manuscript by a certain time, and if they don't get it, well... sweatdrop

I haven't actually read your entire book, and different editors look for different things. wink For example, the two biggest genres of teen lit are chick lit/romance and fantasy/sci-fi/alternate reality. So, not all editors are going to be looking for the same thing. We want something NEW. And fresh.

Without an agent, you can self-publish, much the same as heart Christopher heart or like the book Luthiel's Song, or perhaps the one by Steven Oliverez.
Incredibly expensive.

Of course people publish teenagers. Remember Amelia Atwater-Rhodes? AMAZING AUTHOR. Teenager when published, because she was completely fresh and new.
And then heart Christopher heart .
I don't have an obsession. stare
More of an infatuation heart heart heart

And Hawk, typically they don't. No offense, but it's seen mostly as a sign of laziness. "The author hasn't completed their draft" and it gets thrown into the reject pile and you get the red REJECT slip.
They'll consider it if it's an actual play. Or script. Like, famous ones. You know, The Bacchae, Antigone, etc.

Hope I helped. mrgreen

wooooooowww....

But aren't Christopher Paolini's parents publishers?

So does he count?

(Gods, I envy you. Does he have an AIM or something? O.o)

And do publisher people let you KNOW if they don't like your book? Cause I sent one off once...just one copy...expensive mail to New York, and it never ever came back...this was six months ago, btw. Assholes, not giving it back crying (This was the same company that published Harry Potter, btw)

Oh well, that story was crap anyway.

Um, are many people loking for a sort of fantasy novel, kind of sci-fi-ish because of really complex theories and stuff like space/time travel? Cause....that's what mine is, basically.

And it's in the sort of Lord of the Rings, Eragon style. I am discouraged that Christopher Paolini had publishers for parents...ooooooooo......my parents can't edit a newspaper comic. (I mean that in the nciest way possible.)

And Hawk...JK Rowling is not the best. Dan Brown kicks her a** by far, as far as style goes. For popularity and billionaire stats, though, she takes the cake. First woman billionaire, you know that?

But she's over with. When the last movie comes out, Harry potter will be forgotten forever.

I'm going to save all the books in a box somewhere and give them to my kids/neices/the homeless.

The way I heard it, Paolini's parents only started the company to publish the book.

So, not really.

(I don't talk to him personally. I'm just extremely well-informed. But yes. I have spoken to him in chat.)

They usually send you a reject slip. Or at least, that's what they're supposed to do.

You'll have to check with the certain companies that publish those sorts of genres. I mean, if you want to publish a book like that, you're obviously not going to market it to the people that publish Gossip Girls, right?

OMGIWANTAMOMO.
And I have AP Euro homework. ):

They started it just to publish that book? No, I'm pretty sure they'd already had the company going... or at least, that's what I've heard multiple times. Meh, I don't know.

And ya, Kirby, I was just talking about her billionaire status. Concerning style, that's sort of more of an opinion thing. But how could you say she's already over with!? We still have one more book, and then the next series she'll write (Don't quote me on this, but I thought I heard that she might do a new series after Harry based in the same world. Just with different characters.)

Only one more book? I heard Rowling was gonna write two more so that they weren't uber huge and hard to read without killing the spines...?
