[ Tsk! No problem. Forgive any mistakes, I'm kinda winging the scenery. XDD ]

It was a big suprise when Charlot was summoned back to the large tents of Cirque. He'd half expected to be catching a train out of this city, moving on by morning. Luck was on his side again, apparently.

'Not that I'm was complaining', he half murmured to himself.

He readjusted his bag, chewing thoughtfully on the tip of his current cigarette as he waited outside one of the tents. It was dark blue (hard to tell in the darkness, but the torchlight flickered off the fabric giving it a sheen of color) with large multi-colored streamers from poles all around it. He was lounging on one of the hay stacks, watching people walk around doing work. Hard work.

He'd been joining them soon enough, being the 'low man' on the totem pole. He didn't mind at all, as long as he got something to eat every once in a while and a place to sleep. That seemed more than worth it for a place to hide while he got his s**t together.

((Oh! I got distracted! Sorry about the wait!))

Dahli walked quickly, looking from side to side, searching people's faces. Where had he gone off to?

She stopped short, seeing a face she didn't recognize. "Excuse me," she said, walking up to Charlot. She rolled her big sleaves down over her hands and started rubbing her thumbs against her forfingers, a nervous habit she had when talking to new people, especially men. She lowered her head do that her coolie hat hung over her eyes. "This area is for employees only. The ticket booth is around front." Lucky for her the coolie hat also covered her reddening cheeks. "I'll walk you over there if you'd like."

Charlot blinked, looking up at the mouse-voice addressing him. The person (well, he couldn't tell WHAT it was with the hat down) was dressed ... differently. He wondered vaguely if he'd have to dress in something wild like that.

Harlot stood up, blowing the last of the smoke aside and snuffing the cig with his boot heel. His bag remained on the haystack where he'd been sitting.

"Yeah, I was just hired on here-" He peered down at the hat, eyebrow raised slightly. "You're more'n welcome to trot around front with me if y'like- I'm jus waitin' on somethin' to do."

Dahli looked up, letting her hat tip back and her face be seen. "Oh!" she blushed harder at her mistake. "I didn't think- I uhh... sorry. I don't really keep up with the going ons around here." She looked around uncomfortably, as if searching for a braver soul to come save her from embarassment. "Has anyone welcomed you... or showed you around yet? I could if you'd like. Oh!"

She extended her arm, shaking back the huge sleeve to reveal her hand. "I'm Dahli. I do some of the poster art and... well, I try to keep things... in line around here." Dahli lowered her head again, casting a shadow over her face. A smirk barely crossed her lips and she peered up again smiling almost creepily at Charlot.

Harlot shook his head, amused. "No. I've only gotten th'okay to stay. I've been sittin here since then." A welcome sounded real nice.

As Dahli extended her hand, Harlot rubbed his off on his coat and took it. "Mmm, I see. Well, tis nice t'meet you, Dolly." He released her hand as soon as possible, getting the strangest 'vibe' from her. She had a lovely smile, one he'd seen on a couple full moons himself.

Harlot shook the thought aside as he turned around to grab his bag. He slung it over his shoulder, gesturing for Dahli to lead the way.

    "I'm at'che service, Miz Dolly."

Dahli bagan walking slowly, rubbing her hands together beneath her big sleeves. "Uhmm, lets see... I guess Aiden probably didn't tell you much about what you'll be doing until you get your act together. Most people just help out. He has a tendancy to snap at people for slacking off, but I know he can be... vague... when giving out orders." She smiled again, starting to warm up to Charlot. "Just try and find something you like for now. We always need more people to set up the tents and stages."

As they came upon the trailers Dahli quickened her pace. "You're probably staying in some smelly bunk with a bunch of other people for now, huh? You'll get a bigger tailer and less room mates once you start performing."

They passed by the head trailer in the caravan- a heavily gilded carriage trimmed in gold. A chill ran down her spine and she actually shook. "That's where Aiden stays," she said, motioning at it with a sleeve and quickening her pace even more. As they got sufficiently past it she spun around to face Charlot. "I wouldn't go poking around in that place if I were you." Her eyes were stern and flashed warningly, but that same coy smile crossed her face.

Aiden, hmm? Oh yeah, that was the boss. The guy who signed his signup papers and then just dissapeared. True, he'd had questions but it wasn't anything he couldn't find out for himself later.

Harlot continued following beside Dahli, listening to her chat about the place. Building up tents and taking them down wasn't any labor he wasn't used to. He'd been in a couple of smaller circus before this one.

"Ah, sounds like a bit a fun-" He murmured, quickening his pace to match Dahli's shorter one.

Her descriptions of the sleeping arrangements left a little to be desired, but he'd slept in alleyways PLENTY of times to apprecaite what he could get. Smells or no. As they passed the head trailer his eyes wandered to it, flickering across the gold enlay and finery. He almost bumped into Dahli before he realized she'd stopped suddenly.

He tilted his head at her warning, flashing her a warm charismatic smile. "No fears, poppet. I ain't got no buisness bein' in that pretty box. I'm sure I'll 'ave plenty of work to distract me from mischief, hmm?"

In all truth, he had no intention of doing anything stupid...... yet.

Dahli's eyes gave a sideways look at the trailer and began narrowing into a glare before her face perked up and she let out a squeek. Something was rubbing against her foot and she knew just what, or rather who, it was. She looked down to see the glittering black eyes of a small black money staring up at her. She looked gave Charlot a quick, slightly annoyed glance and then bent down to pick the small creature up. "You adorable little thing!" She gushed, trying to sound sincere. She held the monkey on her sleeves, not letting it touch her skin.

"This is Kera, our... mascot of sorts. I hope you like monkies." She gave a quick glance down at Kera, who stared intently at Charlot, and then gave Charlot a quick nod. She gritted her teeth in an uneasy smile.

"Me? Tch, I love monkies... Who doesn't." The sarcasm was light. Charlot eyed the little ball of black fur and shiny eyes. He lifted his hat, tipping it at Kera. "Allo, K'ra. Nice t'meet cha."

It wasn't that he didn't like animals, it was more that animals.. generally didn't take a fancy to him. Some were different, some would follow him around for hours. Especially dogs.

"So, Miz Dolly.. I fancy this is all there is t' it? Do y'work, stay outta the boss's box, and look busy." He nodded to himself, reaching his his top pocket to pull out a cigarette. "Not bad."

Dahli nodded, her smile easing with relief. Kera seemed unchanged and Dahli placed her back on the ground. "Now go off and stay out of trouble." Her words seemed more serious that one would normally expect for that phrase.

She looked back up at Charlot, swinging her arms a bit to loosen all that tension. "Yup! At least for now. I hear it gets tough once you're put on stage. I wouldn't know, I freeze up when more than five people are looking at me. But all I hear from the performers is how tough it is once they've made it big."

[ I shall edit this post with a reply when I get home in a couple minutes! <3 Work is over~ ]

'Making it big' wasn't a huge priority on his list... so he wasn't too worried about all that came with circus fame. It was also a big traveller, so all the notoriety that came with being a headliner wouldn't jeopardize his hiding... at least not yet.

He paused to light his cigarette, giving it a few puffs to help light it. It was a little windy outside and his matches were being nearly useless. He gave the grounds a final glance, before turning back to Dahli.

"Y'ave any suggestions on whatta do now? Or should I jus look busy?" He grinned at her. Dahli might have had her creepy moments, but over all he really liked her. She didn't ask him questions and she kept the mysterious air about them he favored a lot. "I've worked a couple circus before, I also learn pretteh quick. D'You need any help, Miz Dolly?"

"Me? I'm set. Funny, no one ever asked me if I ever needed help." She smiled, this time without the creepiness. "But now that we've got all this new help hired we'll probably be moving on. You do know about the whole world hopping this this caravan does, right? I've met too many new people that didn't know and stepped out for a smoke right as we took off and got left behind."
