All right. I've been participating with my friend's church in several of their youth group events, such as paintball, a Third Day concert, and such. A few weeks ago, a youth leader from the church e-mailed me with a schedule of events for the next year or so. I scanned through it, and one thing caught my eye.
In June they are having a missions trip to Mexico. I was excited, because I've been wanting to help spread His Word for as long as I can remember. I told my mother about it, but unfortunately she was less than enthusiastic. The reason was that she wasn't so sure of me going with someone else's church on a missions trip, instead of going with my own. She said I could go on the trip, but only if my own church wasn't planning any for the ENTIRE YEAR of 2007.
Now, I understand that going on a missions trip with someone else's church might be considered, for lack of a better term, impudent to my own church. But what I'm confused about is WHY it would be impudent. To me it seems as if they are saying: "Yes, serve the Lord with all your heart! But only evangalise if you're going to do it for US."
This seems...selfish, almost. I feel that they don't want me to tell people about Jesus, only because I would be doing it with a "rival" church. It seems like this is a "What's Wrong With This Picture?" game, except the abnormalties are all too obvious.
Please, I need help. I'm just confused. Why are they holding me back like this?
