It was only early evening, but it was already dark - not merely from the incoming cold weather, but rather from the storm that had taken the compound by surprise. It was the sort of night that most people would hole up in their apartments, content (or nervous) to listen to the banging of limbs against the buildings.

But Dacian wasn't in his apartment.

Not that he didn't want to be - but try explaining that to his apparently missing key. And the spare was somewhere in Hadrian's office in the labs - he'd had it with him when he'd offered to help with paperwork earlier that day (the boredom got to him) - and so it was somewhere in the masses of paper...

And this led him to his insane dash through the rain towards the labs. But Dacian didn't exactly have the best sense of direction in the world (who would when rain was pelting directly into your face, accompanied by some winds strong enough to make him go staggering here and there?), and misjudged. The doorway he did find was not, unfortunatly, to the labs.

It was to the other apartment building. Ah well, at least he was closer...

Now if only he could work up the will power to re-enter that mess outside - though he didn't know if it would make much of a difference, since he was already drenched dripping water all over the floor of the entry way.

It was times like this Tristan Kane hated animals. Sure his hate would never last long, but of all the times Hamlet had to decide he needed to take a leak, in the middle of a storm.

Oh well, he had an umbrella he was dying for a smoke. He was mad at himself for having started smoking again but he couldn't help it, he had been rather depressed recently and he had just picked it up again.

Walking down the stairs behind the puppy, using his umbrella as a cane and cigerette hanging from his mouth. "Come on you stupid mutt," he grumbled, not really meaning it.

Staring out at the rain, Dacian sighed and prepared himself to enter it again; but he stopped when he heard someone coming down the stairs. It had to be someone he knew - maybe it was Hadrian? Hadrian might know where to find his spare key!

But it wasn't Hadrian. Or anyone he knew, for that matter. And...the man had a dog. So he probably wasn't just visiting a guardian.

...was this a guardian he hadn't even met?

Quickly, he ran over the lists in his mind, before coming to the conclusion that there were a few. Gods, he was lazy.

Taking note of the umbrella, Dacian managed an amused chuckle, despite his currently water-logged state.

"I don't think that'll be much help..."

Pointing at the window, it was pretty apparent that with all that wind, the rain was pretty much going every direction. Including sideways.

He looked blankly at Dacian for a moment, taking in that it was someone new and that they looked very, very wet. Then he looked out the window where Dacian was pointing and realized why.

"s**t," Tristan said, he knew it was bad but not that bad, he looked down and scowled at the dog, and then pulled the cigerette from his mouth, "this won't be much use than either. Stupid dog, he better be happy I like him."

Hamlet didn't pay any attention to the comments his owner was making about his intelligence, for there was a new person there and that meant he had some sniffing to do!

Tristan shook his head watching the dog then turned back the the dripping man in front of him, "I'm Tristan Kane by the way, and the one sniffing your leg is Hamlet."

Tristan Kane...running through his mental list once more, he noted that he was right - a guardian he hadn't yet met. One who's soul hadn't been born yet either, if he remembered correctly...

Fixing a rueful smile on his lips, Dacian spoke up with an apologetic tone, "I really should have met you before now - I'm Dacian."

That was the name on the letter he'd delivered to each guardian, so it should be recognized, but just in case..."I'm the mage that sends the guardian's their letters."

Eyeing the dog currently sniffing him, the brown-haired man briefly paused to consider, before kneeling down and scratching the dogs head. At least this way he wasn't hovering over and getting the dog wet, this way.

"Ah ha," he ahd recognized the name, he had read the letter a couple of times and so he recognized it, "Its nice to meet you, I was wondering when I might meet one of the one of the boss guys."

Hamlet was happy for the scratching and barked to show it. Any attention Hamlet got made him happy and he loved anyone who gave it to him.

"Your never going to get rid of him now you know. He is a whore for attention," Tristan said with a grin on his face.

Dacian's expression was one of silly horror at Tristan's words.

"Boss? Ooh, no - I'm just the meet-and-greet person, and gardener: if you want the one who's really in charge of it all, that'd be Dacian. And then there's Ahneta, but she's more of a 'go forth and find money' person."

The idea of being thought of as the 'boss' was not one this mage found all that pleasurable. Though he thought Hadrian probably felt that way as well - Ahneta would love it, but she'd hate the actual work that went along with it.

"Anyway, I really should have made an attempt to meet you earlier - Like I said, I'm the 'meet-and-greet' man. Do you have any questions, or complaints? Are your neighbors treating you well?"

Hopefully they'd been helping out, in the absence of a mage...

Continuing to scratch Hamlet, he chuckled and ruffled the dogs ears at hearing that he was stuck with him now. Ah well, he didn't mind.

Tristan couldn't help but smile at the expression. He had been the same way with beign called boss once upon a time so he understood.

"I've been good, met a few of the neighbours and I think I've asked them all I've had to ask," he had a pretty bad memory and honestly didn't remember the exstent of his first conversations with Remi and Carver.

He was happy Hamlet was so content with the attention, it ment he had forgotten about the bathroom and Tristan didn't have to go out in the rain and after seeing how wet Dacian was he really didn't want to now.

"So do you live in this building," he asumed he did, why else would he come here in this weather and he wanted to know who all the people who lived there were. He wanted to know who he'd have to apologize to if Hamlet decided to bark all night like he did at his all place.

"I actually live in the other apartment building, actually - the one closer to the front gate."

It was good that Tristan didn't have any questions...if the other man'd had questions he couldn't answer, he really didn't want to have to go seek out an answer right now.

"You see, I'm...not exactly the most organized person. I managed to lose my key. And I lost my spare key somewhere in Hadrian's office...so I was making a mad dash to the labs."

'Mad' was right, alright. Especially since he didn't even know if Hadrian was still there - and if he wasn't, that meant his office would be locked. Which would make the entire run to the labs pointless...

"I got a bit turned around out there, and just came in to get out of it - and now, well...I'm not too fond of the idea of heading back out there."

More rain. Joy.

Tristan smiled and tried not to laugh. What horrible luck, so bad it was funny. But he wouldn't laugh at someone else's misfortune... at least not while standing right next to them.

"Hammie there decided now would be an good time to use the washroom. I don't much like the idea of taking him out there either," it was so icky out and his clothes would get wet. Why of all times did his dog have to pee now!

"You know if you wanted to wait and see if it would let up, you can wait it out in my apartment," Tristan offered as he looked back outside. It looked really very crappy out there.

It didn't occur to him that the place where Dacian's keys were could be locked soon, or already locked. Tristan never locked anything, sometime he'd even leave his apartment door open.

Dacian wasn't nearly as polite as Tristan; he would laugh. And he did so (or at least, a little chuckle), at hearing the other man's predicatement with his dog. But at hearing the offer, he brightened up.

"You would? That would be great. At least I can stay out of the rain a bit longer, in any case."

If Hadrian was still working...well, he didn't think the other mage would fight his way through this rain. And if he wasn't - he could just wait until the rain cleared up a bit, then check at the other man's apartment afterwards.

Either way, he'd get to stay out of that mess a bit longer.

"Alright, I'm up on the forth floor," he was about ready to turn and walk back up the stairs when he remembered why he was here in the first place and looked down at his puppy and scowled.

Hamlet again wasn't paying attention to him. Tristan was all and boring, he go to sniff and be pet by him every day, so why would he pay attention?

"If he forgot he had to go, I'm not going to make him. Its his own fault," Tristan said, "mind you I'm the one who'll have to clean up after him." He wasn't going to go out in the rain if he didn't have to, even if it meant mess later, he wasn't very good with foresight.

"Somehow, I think dealing with a bit of a mess (so long as it's not on carpet) is preferrable to going out there. Especially with how long some dogs can take..."

Just finding the 'right spot' can take hours for some dogs. Or at least, that's the way it seemed to Dacian, after observing some pet owners. And it was inevitable that they picked bad weather - according to one grumpy old woman who had a lovely little poodle, dear Fluffums only had to really go use the 'bathroom' when it was sleeting.

Flicking his hair to the other direction, he debated briefly before suggesting, "...do you have carpet? If so, you should probably bring me a towel before letting me in; otherwise you'll have a nice big water stain."

Like the lovely puddle there was now.

Tristan shrugged, "It doesn't matter much to me really. It probably should, devaluing the place or something like that, but I figure since I'm going to have a kid soon, let what may happen to the place happen, I'll clean it up once he is older and less destructive. So puddle on the floor is no big deal. I can give you a towl up stairs though, cause being wet is uncomfortable"

Up the stairs he went now. He liked living near the top. Not only did it provide a good view when he decided to stare blankly out a window but it was a good work up just going up and down and since he didn't get out much any more, save for walking the puppy, any kind of excercise was good.

Getting to his apartment he pushed open the door, not only was it not locked, but he hadn't even closed it properly. Honestly, he should have been robbed by now. The apartment itself was a mess. He still hadn't full unpacked, there were open boxes with half their contents spilling out and some still closed along with plates and the remains microwave dinners littering any flat surface. Tristan turned a nice shade of red after opening the door, he always forgot how messy he left the place.

Following up the stairs, Dacian gave a chuckle. Well, the value thing probably wouldn't matter...after all, it wasn't like they sold the apartments. They just gave them to guardians.

"Probably a good idea...I know pretty well how much of a mess those kids can make. I had one of the toddlers in my apartment at one point, and by the time he left, I had a large stain on my wall. Spaghetti-o's, I believe."

Ah, toddlers...that was one reason why he was never letting Gavin back into his apartment again, with access to messy foods. If he had to feed him there, he'd give him something without sauce.

Huh. Well, at least there wasn't much of a danger of getting robbed in the compound...unless one of the guardians was a thief, anyway. It was a grin that found its way to his face at the mess.

"Well, at least I don't have to worry about making a mess up here - I don't think it'd be noticed." It was laughter that accompanied his voice, so it took any bite out of it.
