WHen had he gotten the feeling he wasn't wanted...? Zimwi stared at the waterfall, at the caves where Maji lived. He'd not gotten very close when he'd run off scared, but it was just as well. Turning, the ghostly lion padded away from the river. The lands were dying, and as far as he was concerned, the more unwelcoming lions could die with it. As scared as the outside world made him, he would have to face it. As long as Safura was with him, he'd face it.

Like a ghost, he found himself moving through the jungle and toward the bare edge. In the distance, he could see nothing but grass and rivers. Sighing, he looked back towards the Umande'mfuni lands. He wasn't welcome. His ears flattened back as he sat down. Could he do it? Could he leave..? A tremble ran over his white body as he looked back out towards the grasses and open space.

Safura was waiting for him as Zimwi tramped out toward the edge of the lands. She could tell he was really worried and scared, and walked toward him with a comforting purr. "Don't worry, Zim! I'm here with you, and trust me, if things get, uh, troublesome, I'm strong enough to protect us both!" She tried to joke a bit, to cheer him up. She had always felt unwelcomed in this land, but she knew it was the way things were, especially since she was a rogue lioness.

She was worried that things would get to be a little too much for her poor mate--since, well, he'd never left the jungle in his life--but she was there, and she herself was a wanderer. She found that a little amusing; she loved change, and wandered around just for that reason. Apparently, Zimwi was her opposite... she supposed that was why they could get along so well, even though they were opposites. Hey, after all, opposites attract, right?

Zimwi swallowed a bit, nodding. "I know... I'm.. I'm still afraid..." He looked up at the pale moon glowing up above. "But... We're not wanted... Many of us aren't wanted..." He sighed, then stood up. "But... Where will we go?" Orange eyes turned towards red, questioning. There wasn't much place he felt safe... Hopefully they'd find somewhere he could handle.

Ruby orbs glinted with concern as they stared into dull orange. "I'd suggest the Pridelands, but you told me you hated the brown-coated... well, not hated, but they worried you. There's also... well, I don't know..." Safura scoured her mind as she came to lay next to Zimwi, licking him and then purring to comfort him. "We're not wanted here, but perhaps there will be a place for us elsewhere... a place that you won't have to worry about." She closed her eyes and viewed over her past friends. Kijito's lands were out of the question...

...She wasn't even sure where Amani and Jinamizi were anymore, and anyone else she remember often wandered around like she did herself. After all that, she finally settled on the conclusion of the Ela'wadiyi lands, where she met her friend Juhudi. She wandered if the quiet male lion was still around, and then shrugged off those thoughts as she turned to rub her cheek against her mate's powerful legs. "Zimwi, have you ever heard of any other clans or prides while you've been inside Umande'mfuni?"

"I know of no others... This was the only place I knew since I was small..." He sighed, looking towards the horizon. "I came like a ghost, thus I leave like a ghost..." He shook his head, ears flattening back a bit. "We could try out by the marshes. Nothing lives out there but prey beasts. It might be better in that area..." Hesitating only a moment, he began to pad out of the trees and into the grasses. Every step was a milestone for Zimwi, for he still feared much. But each step was also a milestone for it brought him closer to conquering his fears.

She followed her mate with sad eyes before she lifted her own paws to go with him as they left the area. Memories of days gone by flooded her, and she wondered--for a brief moment--how all her old friends were doing. She had stayed with Zimwi for such a long time now, and hadn't actually gone to visit anyone. Her family was probably wondering where she was too, but that was all right, she supposed. Shrugging, she continued to follow after Zimwi. "The marshes? I've never been there..." she trailed off, merely glad they weren't trying the places where any Firekin might be living. "Will you be okay, my love?" she whispered, catching up to him to nuzzle him.

Stopping so that Safura could catch up, Zimwi smiled at her. "Neither have I, but... I imagine they're better than this place." He looked back across the plains, swallowing as he moved through the grasses. He felt so exposed out here, especially with the moon bringing a glow to all that was pale. "I should be fine... I'm not a small cub any longer, after all.." It was true, he'd grown quite a lot since he'd found his way to the lands. And now, he was leaving them. The future road held a lot, who knew where they'd end up. Nodding to himself, he looked over at Safura. "I'll race you." He motioned off in the distance. "First one to find a tree dictates if we stop to rest or not." Considering how far away the nearest tree might have been, it was a good bet, and it'd probably put quite a bit of distance between them and the dying and decaying jungle, preventing a hastey return.

Safura nodded, still worried, but she would be okay as long as Zimwi was okay. "I'm not so sure about these marshes," she commented. "They sound icky." Grinning, she licked him on the cheek and then agreed with his little bet. "Sure. But...!" And she took off, laughing as she ran. "I'm gonna make sure I find it first, then!" she called back over her shoulder. He was a grown male, now, and they counted on each other. She definitely depended on him for certain things; after all, she had grown up with him, fallen in love, and she wouldn't want it any other way... Safura didn't think she'd last without Zimwi; he was the one lion who she saw all the time, and the only one who knew her best.

Letting out a laugh, Zimwi hurried after. It felt like, by running, he was leaving his fears behind. This was an oppertunity to start fresh and new, to chart a new course for himself. Mane flying, the white male stretched his body out as he ran. Living in a jungle, there was no room to just stretch and run, but out here... He felt a sense of freedom he'd never felt before. Orange eyes danced as he chased after the lioness, lungs filling with the sweet scent of the night air.

If felt great to run free and wild as was natural to most lions and lionesses again, and Safura'miezi the wandering rogue glanced back at her mate, to find him happy, and a great smile on his face. This only lit up her face as well as scarlet orbs met joyful orange in their race across the nightlit ground. To new lands... to new places... and though her curiosity knew no bounds, she was content with Zimwi, and was happy to finally see her mate feel boundless, prison-free. This was the feeling of true freedom, to run wild, with no worries crossing their minds; to be carefree. Well, it's time for a new home... and I hope we can learn together about the world together. Her eyes closed as she roared, a cheerful smile upon her muzzle.
