(( Bay and Silthran :: Feb 20 2008 ))

Bay walked a few steps more before flopping dramatically down into the moss at the roots of the nearest tree. Once he was half laying on the forest floor he pulled off a boot and delved deep inside with his hand, after the rock he was sure was in there. To his satisfaction he came up with three rocks all of different sizes and took pleasure out of pinging them one by one at a bush. He enjoyed the noise the pebbles made as they hit the leaves... sort of like a hollow notes in a song...

So he started to hum a song starting with those three notes.... then he started to hum louder. A few minutes later he was still enjoying the newfound tune so much that he began to put words to it.

Today was a good day for Bay. He was in a good mood, he wasn't feeling any pain, and he had a full stomach at the moment. He barely even noticed the fact that his singing voice was a little rusty... which was saying something, since he wasn't all that good of a singer to begin with.

Music was a foreign thing to the young Uuthli. With only herself for company, the concept of a tune and song was something she had believed unique to herself. Silthran did not have much in the way of a voice, perhaps, but she did not know there was a standard; her own songs consisted more of random broken notes whenever she felt the need to express them. The trees didn't mind. Indeed, they seemed to encourage her not-songs, and Silthran was happy to oblige.

But today, she heard music of another sort. Music similar to her own, perhaps, in its disjointed notes, but different in that they were connected, in some odd way. The sound easily attracted Silthran's attention, and the Uuthli, not one to shy away from any sort of a meeting, immediately altered her walk to approach the noise. A bounce came to her step as she followed the beat, and remained even as she rounded a tree to find Bay sitting near the base of the next. "That is lovely," she greeted brightly, still prancing in place to the not-quite-melodious song. "Where did you learn it?"

Bay satrtled slightly at the voice, until he realized it was a young jivviness. One that he hadn't seen before, and judging by the fact that she was still on four feet, and obviously didn't live in the village. Then Bay's inner voice chastized him 'just because you choose two legs doesn't mean that others do not roam the forest better upon four' ... he sighed inwardly and stared at the young jivvin for a moment before answering.

"You, my newest and youngest of friends, are what is lovely here." He nodded at her tail and wings. "You have such pretty fur." He seemed to drift off for a second as he took in the colours of her, greeny-blue... before he apparently came back to his senses and answered her question.

"Oh, the tune. A silly thing, I'm afraid. I was simply amusing the gods of pebble flinging with a tribute they inspired...." He grinned at her and winked conspititorily before whispering "I just made it up." He was obviously delighted by this, and took pleasure from the fact that she thought it was lovely.

The compliment, which was quite clearly genuine, won an instant liking for the Afya from Silthran. The Uuthli's small wings gave a little flutter as she sunk onto her haunches, still several feet from Bay. Even as kind as he seemed, old habits for remaining cautious had kept her alive thus far, and she knew better than to get within easy reach of anything she decided she chat with. Her guardian angel was watching, she knew, but sometimes the bad thing might be quicker.

"Thank you~," she trilled, much like a bird in her little movements and mannerisms. "Your fur is quite lovely as well, though you seem to be missing some. Did you get caught in a fence, or a tree, perhaps?"

"There are gods of pebble flinging?" she asked without missing a beat, cocking her head to the side to peer curiously his way. "If so, I am sure they would enjoy your songs. Are there gods of other such things?"

He had a bit of a comical moment as he tired to look at his own ears to see if the fur was missing, and he knew his tail was intact for he'd given it a thurough inspection this morning over porridge. So he sipmly assumed that her statement was in refference to his fourther state, and he was trying to think up something apropriately flippant when she continued her train of thought. He found himself listening intently, fascinated.

"In this case, merely a figure of speech I'm afraid, though I do believe in gods to a fashion." He picked a peice of grass. "It causes me to wonder how anyone know's I've been bad if no one was around to see it." A chill ran through him as he suddenly wondered why he'd said that. "There needs to be something in charge of the grasses, and the birds, and the wind." He flicked the grass away from him, watching it arc through the air gracefully. "Why not also someone else to aprechiate the sounds that a pebble is forced to make as it bounces off the trees and such?"

He shrugged suddenly. "If not just someone to talk to and pass the time with."

"You should not be bad," Silthran chided casually, as if in passing. Already she was standing again and prancing idly in place, the tune Bay had been singing wandering its way through her thoughts. "Whether there is a god of flinging pebbles or not. It does beg an interesting question though, does it not? Is that little voice that tells us when we have done something wrong God or ourselves?"

She quirked an ear his way, but otherwise seemed more interested in the tree beside her than the Afya. "I do not talk to the god of grasses, and birds, and winds, and pebble flinging, for I am unacquainted with him. I do speak with my angel, but my angel, for all his goodness, is not a god. He is a protector, and perhaps a messenger, but not a god."

Bay nodded slowly over at her. Why were the pretty ones always so flipping crazy? "Hrm. We could all use an angel or two." He folded a fingers over into a fist and began to chew a fingernail in thought, perusing over what she'd said.

"You're right. I shouldn't be bad. And just not being able to help it is really no excuse at all." He chuckled. "But a leapord can't change it's spots, or so I hear. Truth is, I've never met a lepoard, or even seen one changing from a distance. I'm not a peeping-tom you know." He paused and narrowed his eyes at her. She was obviously smarter than most... or perhaps just so unhindered by social customs and rules that she was more real.

"That little voice..." He knew that little voice... it never really said anything flat out, but rather in feelings and emotions that he suspected weren't his... prayed weren't his.

"I don't know where that comes from, in all honesty." He smiled suddenly, breaking his own thought stream. "be sure and let me know when you find out."

Crazy was perhaps a bit strong. Misguided was the more appropriate word. Her view of the world was limited the what she had experienced living alone in the forest; her manner of speech came from the brief conversations she had held with this 'angel' and other random encounters. She was not crazy, merely different, not constrained by the social norms of conversation and interaction. She said what she thought, and she expected others to do so as well. Honesty was best, to Silthran's mind.

"What is a leopard?" She quirked a brow, genuinely curious. This was a new word. "And if it cannot change its spots, how would you see one changing, even from a distance?" That seemed quite contradictory. "And what is a peeping-tom?" Another new word.

He blinked at her twice before going on. She was throwing him off of his usual style of speech. "A leapord is an animal that I've heard of. I assume that it is covered in spots. As for it changing or not being able to change, that would be in reference to people and jivvins not being able to change who they are, much like cetain animals are stuck in their furs." She wasn't used to enough things in life for his banter to be of any use here.... it was mildly infuriating... which worried him.

And the that other subject. "Peeping-tom... better ask your dad what that is." He shivvered slightly at the thought of opening his front door to a big green Uuthli tomorow, and being accused of being said subject.... "Better not tell him I told you to ask though."

That was a very vague description, on both counts, and Silthran was not terribly thrilled with either. The knowledge that a leopard was an animal with spots seemed very basic--should had effectively figured that much out by his initial phrase, for the leopard must be able to move to change, and while the trees moved, it was in quite a different way. A leopard could therefore be the another name for the Ssan she had met, or the strange Jivvin-eque creature with the bladed tail, or any number of other animals in the forest or beyond. This Afya was not very helpful.

He was even less helpful in his response to her second question. "I do not have a father," she replied, slightly miffed, not because of her lack of family, but because of the inadequate answer. "Nor do I have a mother to ask in his absence, so you should tell me."

"For heaven sakes child... Where do you live?" He suddenly found himself sitting upright with his feet awkwardly out in front of him. "I mean, I don't doubt your ablility to live, since here you stand in front of me, looking fit as a fiddle..." He stopped and sighed, closed his eyes and then spoke very quickly. "A fiddle is an instrument that looks like a small guitar and is played with string on a stick, and a guitar is a larger instrument with strings stretched across a hole that can be strumed for sounds much like you would get if you were humming... 's quite nice..." Then he opened his eyes and continued as if he hadn't broken his sentance. "What I mean to say is you look healthy and such... but I think... I think you should have parents... "

"A peeping tom is a person or jivvin or other such being with eyes or thereabouts who peers at other jivvins or persons or other such being with eyes and thereabouts when they don't know that they're being peered at." blink. "it's considered quite rude and something that most people and jivvins and other such beings with eyes and thereabouts would never admit to in pleasant company..."

"Which of course I'm still hoping you'll continue to be."

She opened her mouth to question definitions of new presented words, but immediately snapped it shut as the Afya offered them before she could speak. This explanation was much more satisfactory, as was the explanation for a 'peeping-tom' when it finally came. Watching people when they were unaware was rude? Silthran never would have guessed it. She would have to find those birds and apologize later. She hadn't meant any harm.

"Thank you, that was much better," she chirped, finally pleased with his answers. Settling, she sunk down on her haunches once more and wrapped her tail about her forelegs, peering down at the tip as it idly batted against her paw. "I live in the forest, though that is about as specific as I can get, I am afraid. The forest is always changing, you see, and I am always wandering, so my home varies day to day. It is quite nice. I have had no need of parents. My angel takes care of me."

"ah..." He held his hands out in front of him, palms up in a gesture of honesty and sincerity. "If ever your forest brings you to the door of my cabin, then you are more than welcome. I live alone, and would certainly enjoy having my vocabulary tested every now and again." He laughed suddenly, snapping his hands together and rubbing his palms against each other. "Who knows... after all trees can be tricksy, and you might end up with some wonderful anagrams, phrases, words and clever witty sentances that you'll need hlpe puzzling out... and who better than someone like me huh?"

Her nose gave a small twitch, and she nodded. "I quite enjoy wandering, but thank you. I think the trees have more to say to tunes than to wit." Silthran smiled. "Perhaps the god of the tree-songs is the same as the god of the pebble-flinging. Where do you live?" she asked, changing subjects quite suddenly. She had never seen a Jivvin quite like him before, that she could remember. Even her foggy memories of her mother displayed Aisha in her Llar form.

He shrugged and leaned back against the tree again. "I would say too close to the Jivvin Village, though I have hear Raechel say 'too far' on many an occastion. To each his own, I suspect."

He lifted his head and placed an ear against the tree trunk that supported him. "What say you, mr pine? Anything witty or tunefull? It can be anything from sorrow to joyfull glee.... " He waited, lifted an eyebrow and then pulled away from the trunk with a look of surprise and shock. "It says it's not a pine and that I must be a moron... for even a baby jivvin would know that this tree was indeed a birch."

"There is a Jivvin Village?" Silthran's eyes lit up, curiosity inflamed anew by this knowledge. For all her wanderings, she had never found the Village; the trees had never led her near it. Silthran considered pressing him further for information on this Village, but held herself back when he began chatting with the tree. And she was supposed to be the mad one.

"I could not have told you the difference," she quipped, shaking her head. "At least, not by those titles. Who is Raechel?"

He grinned ear to ear. "Head of my rank. Top Afya in a long line and stream of do gooding, helpful polite jivvins. She's a terror and a tyrant. She took me once when I was bad, metaphorically slapped my hand and set me on the right path... albeit the one you see me on now." He made a wide, sweeping, hand motion to take in the trees and the forest around them. "She lived in the Village. Much the same as does just about every other Jivvin I've ever met. Aleda... she would be the one in charge of your rank. She's a hard hitting grindstone that one, but not a second too soon, if you ask me. You Uuthli's could use a little hadnling." He winked knowingly at her before continueing. "The village is here and there, I don't really know. For some reason I always find myself there when I want to be... I suppose that you might somehow always find you way around it... when you want to."

"Afya," she quoted, ear again twitching towards him. "Uuthli, I know that word. Uuthli and Daewl, I have heard said. But I do not know Afya." Silthran paused briefly, as if considering this new word and the rest of the information her had given her, then smiled. "Tell me more about this Village. What is it like? How many other Jivvins live there?"

"A lot." He shrugged. "I don't know exactly how many, but more than I could ever know by name... maybe." He sat forward again. "It's been there for hundred's of years, at least a set before I ever came around. It's a wonderful place where Jivvins can live free and unbonded, living lives as long as you've ever seen. I myself live in a very small cabin, by myself, as I'm sure I mentioned before... It's surrounded by trees, but just close enough to other cabins that I never feel completely alone if I don't want to." He picked a grass blade and flicked it into the slight wind, watching it spiral downwards with small interest. "My parent's used to live in a cabin right near the center of the village, or at least as close as you can get really. But that was before they died. I gave that cabin away." He shrugged. "It's hard to describe one's home... Home is where the heart rests... not the eyes."

"I am surprised I have not seen them before, if there are so many." Tiring of sitting in place, she rose to her feet once more and wandered a few steps closer to Bay, then lazily began circling his tree. "I am sorry about your parents. I think. It is hard to relate," she admitted, wrinkling her nose. And again, she abruptly changed topics, delving into another definition question. "What is a bond?"

He leaned over and let himself fall sideways onto an elbow so he could watch her slow pace around the back of his tree. "Why must you ask the questions that are hard to answer?" He sighed and fell back onto his arm, propping up his head comfortably. "I've never had a bond, because bonding is what happens when jivvin eggs are hatched around sentiant beings that aren't other jivvins.... or so I understand." He sat up so he could glare at her momentarily. "I've met two jivvins who came from what they called the 'center' where they all lived with humans and other humanoids and such... and the one told me that a bond was a sort of mental connection between the humanoid and jivvin hatchling... and that it continued to grow as long as both the human and jivvin stayed alive together... oh, and that the human could choose to 'unbond' the jivvin and they could go their separate ways." He shrugged. "That's really all I know. It sounded kind of like a mate-bond that sometimes happens between two villagers, but I don't think that kind can be dissolved apart from death."

He narrowed his eyes at her again. "Hey, maybe you're a lost center jivvin?"

Silthran turned up her nose, huffing. "How am I to know they are hard to answer before I have asked them? Most of what you are saying is completely foreign to me. It is like learning an entirely different language, or discovering a new world where there was none before." Really, that was rather fitting. This Village that he spoke of, with so many different Jivvins--it was in the forest? This forest that she had been wandering for months? The very concept of what he was saying was made that much more interesting by the fact that everything had been right in front of her and she had not seen it.

"I have never had a bond," she replied dismissively, tail giving a small flick. "That seems the kind of thing I would remember, and I do not remember one. I have always lived in the forest."

"It wasn't an insult you know... but take it as you will." He returned to his nonchalant leaning and pretended not to be interested for a moment before speaking again. "And anyway, the jivvin I talked to only had a bond when they were very very small and then didn't remember a moment of it... He also said that there were many jivvins there at the 'center' who had been unbonded and were growing up without." He sighed inwardly for a moment. "to me a bond seems both trying and wonderful. Never be completely alone... always know you're loved. That kind of thing. I mean, don't get me wrong, friends are grand, but there's nothing like family."

(( Bay, Zelda, Scion, Spawn :: Jan 2 2007 ))

It had been a surprisingly cold winter, and the snow seemed to be annoyingly thick for anyone short or those not in Quen form. Zelda had no need to worry about this sort of thing, and either worked a simple illusion to walk atop the snow or she evaporated a path for herself through the snow. The latter usually occured in association with anger or impatience.

Today, the Daewl chose to take the literal high road and walk atop the fresh snowfall. As if this wasn't an overly curious sight in itself, Zelda wore nothing more than a light jacket over her clothing, which looked more like a man who was travelling today than a young lady. Yet, somehow, she brought a feminine flare to it (probably the long, curly hair and build.)

She didn't look the least bit cold.

Bay had found himself piling fresh thatching atop of Didger's roof this morning, and was taking a break when Zelda walked by. The thin man was sitting on the roof with his back against the warm chimney. His coat was brown with many colourful patches, and it was covered in snow and melted snow... not to mention the thatching compund.

He watched her walking for a short while, but found that he couldn't control the impulse to speak once she neared. "Now, that... that is a trick I wish I knew. Especially on a day like today." He rubbed at his reddened nose with his long ungloved fingers. "It's hard to get places sticking only to the roofs." He lifted his other hand to show the sticky thatching compound... "Literally."

The male voice caused her to raise her eyes to the source, a very small smile edging its way onto her face. "I am surprised your tail still has so much fur on it then, stranger."

She had stopped walking, standing delicately atop the snow as if it were solid itself, wind tossing bits of curls into her face in the mean time. "You look a bit chilly," she commented, glancing over towards the sun, which was well on its way to the horizon.

"My mother always did say I had a lovely tail." He threw reached over and gave his own tail a pat, the same way one might pet a dog. "it would be a shame to let one of my sole attributes waste away."

He looked down at her and inpsected her quickly. "And you don't. You don't look chilly at all. In fact you look rather content there to stand and float above the snow." Her jacket was large, so it was hard to get a good impression of her... "Mind you, I'll wager that the wind blows more freely an thus more fiercely up here where it's unhampered by buildings."

"I'm able to keep myself quite toasty," she said simply, pausing to look upwards towards the sky, where a light flurry had begun. Any snowflake that managed to fall on her skin disappeared almost instantly, replaced by a small puff of steam. "I could be naked out here and be quite content, though... I'm sure Soyala would not be pleased with such behavior. Jatin maybe, but the Daewl?"

Shaking her head, Zelda chuckled and cocked her head to the side, appraising the roof silently. "I'm Zelda, by the way."

Bay shrugged knowingly. He'd been in a great deal of trouble once... but it had been a loooong time since Soyala had looked his way, and he'd like to keep it that way. "Soyala would have us all behaving as if we were still pets of the royals... though she might not see it that way." And he smirked at the mention of Jatin's name... not a Jivvin Bay got along with.

"I'm Bay'lohved." He slid down to teh edge of the roof and let his feet fall over. "Once again, I have my mother to thank for that. She named me."

"Where, might I ask, are you off to?"

She gave him a warning glance to him when he spoke ill of Soyala, eyes peering around to see if anyone was within listening range. Once the Daewl saw it safe, she nodded to herself. "Pleasure to meet you. I was on my way home. I live by the lake."

Her orange eyes watched him for a reaction to gauge, "You may join me for a hot drink if you'd like. I fear for your nose's health."

"Ah yes... " He crossed his eyes comically as if trying to see his own nose. "It runs constantly lately. It even threatens to run away I fear... so I shall take you up on your offer of a hot drink." He hadn't been trying to get invited along, simply rather that he had been curious as to where she might be heading on a cold day... now that he knew, he found himself currious as to where she had come from.

Call it curiousity... call it nosyness... Call him stupid. Enh. He found it hard to care and difficult to control the baser nature of a know-it-all... which he was. In full fold.

he kicked his feet forward and fell gracefully to the ground... He took several steps to the path and pulled his coat tighter about him. He was taller than her. Only buy about two inches, but he could still look down at her all the same. And so he looked down at her comically. "I take back what I said earlier about the wind being worse up on the roof."

A cheeky grin was the only thing offered to both his nose commentary and his wind joke, but the only difference is that it grew larger the whole while. Once upright on the ground, Zelda motioned for him to follow her as she made her way to her and Scion's house, cutting a path through the snow for the both of them.

Only when they were a healthy distance into the forest, walking a path in which she knew like the back of her hand, did she speak, "About earlier, I'd be careful about speaking ill of the Daewl... The politics around her are very dangerous, and there are loyal spies in and out of her rank." Her voice was soft, but serious.

He smiled at her and lowered his voice. "You speak nothing but the truth there. Don't worry about me, I've had my fill of her lectures, or lack thereof in her stony silences. And certainly enough of her anger." He gave a chuckle. "Truth be told, at this point I'd think she whould be more suspicious if I didn't taunt and criticize, than if I did." He winked at her. "I'm a bit of a card." In manner.

"That's a relief to hear," she murmured, curling around till she was holding the end in her arms.

It wasn't long before they came to a house near the lake, which was frozen over and showed signs that people had recently been skating on it. Stepping inside, the daewl held the door open for Bay and ushered him inside. "Warm yourself by the fire, I think Scion and the little one are out in the snow."

Hanging up her jacket, she went into the kitchen to make them some drinks, "Preference on your drink?"

"Tea." He looked around the house. It was cozy, and lived in. Very different from his own house, which he endeavoured to stay out of at all times it seemed. "Please and Thank you." The smile he flashed her was genuine, and he stepped over to look out the window. "It's a nice place you have here. Very nice." He liked the location as well. "It's peacful. My house is all the way on the other side of the village... but still almost in the throng of things there." He sniffed and rubbed his nose.

"You have a child?"

"It was built for us because we let the Council use it for a trial," she explained from the kitchen, heating up the water magically, returning some minutes later with two cups of tea and a teapot on a tray. "It's perfect because it's near enough to the village for me, and far enough for Scion..."

Trailing off, she set the tray down on the coffee table and chuckled at the next question, "Yes, we do... Quite an accident, I remember burning Jatin's couch down in a fit of rage when I found out." That memory brought on more laughter, and she had to stop drinking to keep from burning herself.

He cocked an eyebrow... "You burned Jatin's personal belognings..." It was a statement, not a question, and it was accompanied by a certain awe. "That, I would have liked to see Miss." He reached out a long skinny arm and deftly plucked the second cup up off the table. "Thank you." Bay took a sip and continued his previous thought. "Now was this an effort on your part or is this something that you can do merely by the employment of your rank's atributes?"

It was impressive either way, but if she had to go and lay claim to match and tinder, then it was all the more so.

Zelda had finally calmed her giggles down enough to take another sip from her own tea, "Scion and I are both Daewls, but I did get him to unknowingly sit in the fire when I had left." An eyebrow raised to accompany a smirk as she took another drink.

"I take it you and Jatin don't get along?"

"Mm." He burried the sound in his tea cup as he took a second sip. "I am hard pressed to like others who have taken advantage of situations they have no claim to." That and someone Bay had loved had once said... "I suppose there's a little jelousy there as well. My... the Jivviness I loved once told me that she found him irrisistably attractive." It irritated him, and he huffed once before pursing his lips into a false smile for Zelda. "But such are the trials of a long life..."

"He's a manwhore," she commented with a shrug, "He let me stay in his house while Scion was not himself..." Her own lips pursed, remembering the time he was so pitiful after the split. "He can be a good man, but his morals are severely skewed when it comes to the little Jatin."

Bay watched as her thoughts turned inward. He decided that brief change of subject would be more benficial to the present. "There's a little good and a little bad in everyone. We all have.... lapses." That wasn't a good word, but it was all he could think of. "Moment's when we find that we're not ourselves..." That was more true... Bay could still feel the rage inside him sometimes... and he knew that it wasn't his.

"Scion is good, it was just the shadow creature that posessed him... He's dead now but most of the villagers still do not trust him." A bit of spite was in her voice, but she soon illusioned a pleasant expression back onto her face. "We are happy now, and that's all that really matters."

Bay jerked physically at the mention of shadow creature possesion. He blanched for a moment and then shook it off. "They'll come around." Maybe. "They just don't understand, and it's like they always say... beings are afraid of what they don't understand." And... "And sometimes what they understand only all to well scares the hell out of them too."

His reaction caused her to drop the illusion and stare at him intently (almost rudely). "Tell me the story," she said when she finally spoke, tail curling around her as the Daewl took another drink of her tea, absently heating it up some more.

"Ha!" It was a short laugh that came across as slightly incredulous. "Shadow creatures scare me... that's all. But don't get me wrong... I don't think badly of you nor your Scion, I..." He stammered the end of the sentance... Very unlike Bay.

He sighed and let go of his tension for a moment. They were only talking of shadow creatures... why was he so tense? Why was there a tinge of.. of... what was that? Fear? ... more like anger, but only a very small tinge. One small tinge of unbridled fury.

"My...." There... he had almost said bondmate again. "The jivviness I loved. She tricked me. She had let a Shadow being possess her, and told me she was ill. I healed her.... I healed it." And then the shadow creature had possessed him and he had killed her.... but that wasn't something he could say outloud.

Zelda stayed silent during his story, continuing to sip her tea and listen intently. Setting down her cup once he had finished, she took in a deep breath and sighed.

"It takes a very strong person to be able to fight a shadow creature, I doubt it was her speaking most of the time. They have access to their memories and can easily play the part of whoever their victim is... Once they're in control..."

She swallowed, glancing down at her hands for a moment, "There will always be guilt for those involved, but there is nothing you can do but live. Like Scion and I... It took a toll on both of us, both physically, emotionally, and mentally... Even our powers, but somehow we've struggled through it."

"Yeah... that's probbaly right..." He didn't say that he knew it wasn't. Naya had deliberately helped the Shadow creature to use Bay. She had said so herself, once the shadow was in Bay... that's how he knew.

"Powers..." That was another thing. "I lost all mine. Every last ounce of any healing ability I ever had... gone." He thought silently in his head. "It's been a long time... at least a hundred years." He couldn't remember. He knew that there had been a period where he had no concept of time, and even now he didn't know how long that particular depression had lasted...

She sensed his unease but didn't argue.

"All gone?" Her eyebrow quirked upwards, and she frowned slightly, trying to think of what to say. "Well, I like to think that everything happens for a reason... Both the good and the bad things have a purpose."

Finished with her tea, she stood up and excused herself to the kitchen to find something to eat. "You hungry?" It was only polite.

Bay regained his composure and glanced down at his tea cup... it was still half full. "I... A little." he smiled up at her. "But I won't want to impose upon you. You didn't ask for company when I called out from the rooftops." He grinned a knowing grin.

As if on cue, father and on chose that moment to arrive home. The door swung open and Scion stepped inside, changing to Quen as he did so and holding the door open for Klu'chud to enter behind him. The younger Jivvin stepped inside, and Scion let the door fall closed behind him, turning to proceed to the kitchen and pausing only steps later when he noticed Bay'lohved seated at the table.

Solid blue eyes narrowed at the sight, an expression of disgust spreading across the Daewl's face before he masked it with an illusion. Scion took a long moment to examine the intruder, one hand clenching in a fist at his side, then haughtily lifted his gaze towards Zelda, quirking a brow expectantly. "Cahallin, Usstan z'reninth? Usstan shlu'ta talinth d' nau byr sanrr ele nindol srow orn'la tlu wun ussta delmah."

At his side, the much younger Daewl snickered, his own gold eyes glittering with something akin to malice as he watched the Afya.

Zelda perked up visibly when Scion and Chud returned home, and immediately her mood dropped a signifigantly. Her own eyes narrowed at his comment, and before she could say something the snicker brought an intense look to their child, "Behave and leave us." She motioned to his room and raised an eyebrow expectantly.

Once he left, and she knew good and well he hadn't snuck back into the living room or the kitchen, did she speak to Scion, "I ran into Bay returning from my visit to Lysius... He looked cold so I politely invited him back for tea. He is not for eating." The last sentence was added with a sterner note. "If he hated you I would have thrown him out earlier."

An apologetic look was given to Bay.

Bay's normally flippant attitude was abandoned for the moment, in favor of a simple smile and a nod. "It's a chilly day outside, as you will have noticed. Truth be told, I had no idea that this house existed, let alone who occupied it..." He waved a hand in a circle and pointed at his tea... "I was but thirsty and the aptly apt Zelda here has provided me with Tea..." He smiled and picked up the cup and took a sip...

Then a thought occured to him. "Would you have cooked me first? I mean... I'm not abreast of my Jivvin delecacies."

The little blue Daewl looked positively murderous at being sent away, but went without a word, whirling around and storming for his room...where, like Zelda expected, he would sneak minutes later and return to hidein the living room.

Scion's expression, meanwhile, remained neutral, thought it was clear he was as irritated by his son being sent away as Klu'chud was. Nonetheless, he adapted the part of as gracious a host as he could muster, which, given that Bay was quite obviously from the village, was not much. "Usstan tlun reiyal zhaunus natha z'hin ulu ukt ehmtu delmah orn'la inbal plynnet less draeval taga l' uss ulu udosst." Chuckling bitterly, he stepped past the pair to fix himself a cup of tea, taking a small sip before flashing a toothy grin Bay's way. "I prefer them fresh."

Zelda held up a hand to excuse herself moments into the delightful conversation, stepping into the living room and stopping directly in front of their son's hiding place. "Room, now." Again, she waited until he was gone before returning to break up the two men.

"Maybe it's time to break this little party up. It's getting dark," she forced, giving both men a dangerous look. It was clear she was well on her way to furious. "It was nice to meet you Bay, and I'm sorry this got cut short."

That's understandable. I feel that I am adequately refreshed now." He stood and walked the now empty teaucp over to her. "Thank you, Zelda. For your kindness and compassion. And of course, for your conversation."

He gave her a curt bow and turned to Scion. "And thank you for the temporary hospitality of your house and for not eating me on the spot. I'll wager I'd be scrawy and sinewy anyway." He turned and walked to the door to let himself out.

Klu'chud wrinkled his nose at being discovered, ears pinning back against his head. Nonetheless, he obeyed and skittered past his mother, but not before sending a shock from the ground up through her feet. "Usstan tlun naut natha lerg!"

In the kitchen, Scion choked back at laugh at the child's words, considerably cheered to hear that the Afya would be leaving. "I have had enough of your kind to keep me filled for a good while, thank you. Do pass my regards on to the Council." And returning to his cup of tea, he dismissed Bay with a wave of his hand.

(( Bay and Jim :: Sep 02 2006 ))

It had taken some convincing... though Kama assured him he was not a slave, not property...those rotting in jail had more freedom. And dignity in Jim's opinion. The teen had to have every good excuse to step out of the house anymore. With Tayn back in the house he wasn't needed to get groceries or run errends anymore. He was kept in the house to rest, to heal, and try to work himself out when he could...

He looked better than he had physically, but the dark circles around his eyes and the drag to his step betrayed his mental condition. He sat on the steps up to a resteraunt, sprawled out with his head resting against the ledge of the stone planters, eyes shut. He already had a few quarters and bills tossed at him, many mistook him for a street bum or beggar, dressed in rags and no intent to change it.

Formally, he'd been a common sight, mainly a blur followed by the local law inforcement.

Bay was stolling past the buildings with a uplifting mood that he didn't really feel, whistling as he went. There were jivvins everywhere today, walking, chatting, eating, throwing coins at unconcious jivvins... hhmmm. Or not.

Bay strolled past the teen on the steps... he did look like he was asleep but the breathing pattern wasn't right for slumber... the kid was pretending... and he also wasn't a beggar, so the coins should bother him... but they didn't seem to, but Bay kept on stolling by... for a moment.

After a short walk he turned and came back at the restauraunt from the back. After entering the establishment through the backdoor, giving a kind nod to the cook, pocketing two loaves of cheese bread, and pausing to pat a jivvin child on the head, Bay left the restauraunt through the front door and paused behind the 'sleeping' teen.

He didn't say anything, and he didn't even acknowledge the teen really... instead he bent and gathered all the coins on the ground, and placed them carefully, one by one, in a handkerchief pulled from his pocket... now the kid wasn't a beggar... instead Bay was a performer... and he knew that the kid was awake and would know he was there, heck, he was 'accidentaly' standing in the kid's light.... and talking to a puppet O.o ... and jivvins had stopped to watch. "Hello Jivvsy. How are you today?" and as usual, the puppet responded, "I have a headache today you fool, leave me alone."

Jim wasn't so much pretending as he was simply enjoying the time away from Kama and resting himself where his mind could be at some ease. Axel couldn't see him like this, not just yet. Just some rest and he'd be right as rain. He was well aware of the coins and bills being trown occassionally at him, either to see if he'd stirr or out of pity.

The first time the jester past by went as ignored as he was to the older jivvin. Just another passer by, good he didn't kick him on the way into the resteraunt or stomp on his tail...however the second time around roused the resting teen, cracking a dull green eye to watch the jivvin gather up the coins. Not that it was much of a big deal... not with what he was making though by unfortunate means.

The performance was more interesting and gained a groan and both eyes opening to watch. For the moment in confused and almost humored silence...the phuck was this about?

With a silly flippant grin Bay stuck his tounge out at the puppet. "Oh have you, you silly thing." He turned his head and somehow managed to cross his arms while still keeping the puppet alert. "Well then I will leave you alone and not tax your weary head any, however I leave you with the thought that without my company you might yet get lonely." Bay raised an eyebrow at the wooden jivvin head. "However if it's both company AND quiet tact you're looking for, perhaps this young chap here would be of a better choice."

With a theatrical turn he flipped his posture around so he was facing Jim, but it wasn't the tall fool that was the center of attention now, it was the puppet. "He looks as if he might also have a headache and therefoe might also have quiet and peaceful conversation high on his current list of daily activities... He's..." Bay paused with and placed a hand on his head... "Why I don't know what he is... What's your name chap?"

The puppet just gave a wooden sigh.

Jim, for a moment, simply watched with his mouth half, parted and eyes raised in a confused yet groggy look. One of his eyes was darkened a bit around it, and his lip cut. If the 'jester' took a closer look, his right wrist was banded with a cold 'bracelet' of some sort, burnt, swollen, cut, and bruised around the overly-tight device.

He simply watched the game before answering, even then he took quite a bit to look around himself, sit himself up, dust off slightly, and give both the wooden toy and the idiot a look that betrayed his thoughts- both of them, and of being woken up. "It's Jim." he said simply, dryly...

"See?" Bay turned and grinned at the puppet, talking to it as if Jim wasn't sitting right there. "His name is Jim and he really doesn't wish to talk to anyone... You'll be the best of friends in no time, for you both seem to have the same interests." Then withought warning he camply plopped himself down on the steps beside the teen and turned away from him, one leg crossed over the other at the knee, the weed flowers at the side of the building seeming to demand all his attention.... But the puppet?

The puppet sat woodenly beside Jim, staring off into the airwaves left by the passersby... one might actually suspect that the puppet was trying it's best to ignore both Bay and Jim, but.... "That fool's more than he seems..." The puppet turned to Jim... "He's also a monumental a** for interfering in the affairs of people he has no business talking to." And then the puppet went back to staring at the jivvins walking by.

Bay, while appearing to watch the flowers, was studing the feeling he was getting from Jim... He had extreme problems in diagnosing things these days, and it was more Jim's attitude and facial expressions (plus the visible scrapes and cuts and bruises) that led him to the conclusion that the kid was in pain... both physical and mental. But there was little or nothing Bay could do about that right now...

The boy watched the game from the steps dryly, now and then sparing a glance out towards the onlookers. He hated being the center of any kind of attention, or rather, in this case, part of the show. He rolled his eyes with a heavy sigh, a bit louder though intended to prove his obvious discomfort with the situation and annoyance.

When the Jivvin took a seat beside him he pretended not to notice... that is until the puppet itself started to speak.

Jim looked down sharply, his eyes widening down at the toy. "....********?"

Bay might be able to sense a few of the other things running through him. They were strong enough. A stubborn pride, bruised ego, but past all that there was something else... a sense of responsability. He was protecting something, or at least in his mind he was.

At the obsenity uttered from Jim's lips the puppet jumped and Bay barked a laugh. In a moment the puppet was out of sight and in Bay's back pocket, and Bay was kneeling on the ground picking up the handkerchief and it's partially spilled contents. "Such words from your mouth..." He tutted loudly... "You may need better nouns."

He slowly turned and sat back down beside Jim, the money in the cloth balled up in his fists. "I mean, when you think about it, the work ******** is monumentally overused... it's both Noun and Verb, sometimes Adjective, and even a personal pronoun or two when used in the right connection to othe words..." He paused and seemed to think for a moment before nodding his head as if her agreed and then turned his full attention to Jim.

"You hungry?" He nodded his head at the restaraunt behind them and opened the handkerchief with the coins in it... "Your treat."

I didn't need it broken down for me, tinkerbell." He snapped, I know what it means... I'm not in the best of moods right now.

He shifted himself, leaning his elbows on his knees and slouching over himself. Food... it sounded good. And why let good pity money go to waste. "...food." He scoffed, "What did you have in mind?"

Bay leaned back and looked around him. "Nothing. I had absolutely nothing in mind... well actually, I was thinking over a number of things, though none of them had anything to do with food." He stopped and thought a second. "I am hungry though. You choose the place, and whatever you want." There was deffinitely enough money in the cloth for at least one person to eat pretty much anything around nearby, and Bay had the money he'd earned fixing old Mala's window this morning... He also had quick hands and would easily make the money in his pocket find it's way into the cloth if it was needed.

Jim stiffly rose to his feet, instantly tucking his hands down into the raggy old jacket of his and slouching over himself. His dark eyes moved between the resteraunts nearby through the gruffy bangs hanging down over his eyes. Pizza? Naw, that was Axel and his thing. Kind of a buddy thing they did whenever they managed to scrape up enough. There was a burger place nearby that wasn't half bad, endless fries too. That was always a plus.

"How 'bout that place?" He nodded over towards the burger stand, "And am I gonna have to listen to you babble to your muppet the whole time?"

(( Bay and Aara :: Aug 23 2006 ))

He wasn't sure as to how long he'd been walking through the woods. In truth, all thoughts of time and space had left his mind, filled instead with thoughts on all that had been and all that would be. The past was easy. The future, a mystery. All was as it should be.

All, save for the fact that, as he glanced up, he came to the realization that he was somewhere that he had never been before. The 'path' that he had been following had disappeared... Or was it that the trees that had seemed to part in order to form a path had now moved together?

"Scion?" Was the Daewl playing tricks on him? It didn't feel like it. No... This wasn't trickery. At least, not as far as he could tell or prove otherwise. "Oh, bother..." He sighed as he sat down, ears flattening against his head. Lost. Perfect.

Bay jumped as the voice woke him. It took him a second to realize that he had fallen asleap out in the woods... that wasn't the plan. All he had wanted was to get away from the prying eyes and constant noise of daily village life. He guessed that the trees were all just too quiet and trustworthy...

He gave the tree a pat and slowly rose to a crouch using the tree as a brace. Now... where had the voice come from? ... Ahh... He peered through the trees and saw a tall jivvin standing a good distance from him... still in adult form ... hmmm. "I don't recognize you... " his voice was a whisper, barely audible from a few feet away.

The jivvin didn't look dangerous... but who the heck knew?

Dangerous? Aara? Never. Well, there had been once and he had been paying for it in his own ways since then. Golden eyes glanced up as his tail swished behind him, ears tilting towards what had sounded like a whisper... Or was it the wind playing tricks again?

No, it hadn't been the wind. Straight ahead of him stood a man. A man who, much like Zelda and Scion, had the ears and tail of a Jivvin. The man was... One of them?

'I come in peace' was a phrase often heard in movies and strange things on the television that the dragon despised her children watching. It didn't seem apropriate here though. Then again, neither did simply standing there gawking like an ust. "Hello."

Bay sighed both outwardly and inwardly at the same time before stepping out into the open where the other jivvin could hear him. He straightened his shirt and fixed the puppet sticking out of his back pocket then took four bold steps towards the jivvin and bowed a deep sweeping guesture... though never taking his eyes off the other.

"Hello to you too. I don't think I've seen you around here before so I'm guessing that you're not from around here... where persay did you come from.... " He smiled... "You're not a figment of my imagination are you? " He grinned... it was a joke. "I must say that if you are I'm quite a clever chap, since you're quite a handsome fellow."

he was flippant... but he wasn't stupid.

He blinked as he watched the male move forward, finding himself smiling along with the smile... And laughing at the joke. "Nay, I am no more a figment of your imagination than you are a figment of mine. There are no Jivvins from the Center who come anywhere close to that which I see standing before me... And I certainly don't recall anything that might have made me dream you into existance."

He chose this time to return the bow that had been given him, dipping his head low as he put a paw forward. "Aaralyn, at your service. And who, might I be so bold as to ask, are you?"

Bay touched his head in reply... "Bay'lohved." He smiled down on Aara sadly... "But those who consider themselves my friend feel the need to call me Bay." He leaned back against another tree and crossed both arms in front of himself nonchanantly. "I'm not entirely sure why they do that... I like both forms of the name though... " He paused in thought. "My mother named me you know, no of course you don't know... but she did." he winked at the other jivvin. "As for why I might dream you up... company? perhaps? Though I did come out here to get away from the other villagers, so perhaps not." He sighed and slid down the tree, sitting again. "You must be real then.... ... ... Congradulations on your newfound confirmed reality."

His brow furrowed slightly as he glanced down at his paws. "I... Cannot recall whomever it was that saw it fit to name me as I am, only that I have been introducing myself as such for so long." The way the other Jivvin spoke was almost like a riddle and, in the name of liking games, he himself also enjoyed riddles. "You came away to get away from the other villagers and you have, for I am not a villager." It made perfect sense. "So, now that we've confirmed my reality, are we certain that you are real? Some days I find myself unsure as to what is real and what is not..."

He was sitting agianst the tree with his knees up and his arms resting out over them. He smiled more to himself than to anyone else... this jivvin, he was smart...

"That, my real companion, is the question itself. Philosophers, both jivvin and human alike so I'm told, have been asking themselves the same question for years... or at least some varriant form of it." He raised a hand and held it open in question. "reality is defined by each and ecery person individualy, simply because something can only be real when someone says it is." His open hand closed suddenly and pointed at Aara... "which means you, my real companion, are in luck because I hace already professed that you ARE real... at least for now. When you leave this group of trees your reality leaves my control and you'll have to fend for it yourself. But for now realax and simply be real." He smiled, closed his eyes and leaned his head back against the tree for a moment.

"But then..." His eyes opened. "There's the original question still isn't there? ... " He became serious for a moment. "We all change as beings. we grow and learn, try and forget, succeed and fail..." Yes.... "I can assure you that if I'm not real now, I was real once... but now? Now I am but a shell... a false front of a happy well adjusted jivvin... It serves me well, but I'm not half as real as I used to be." .... His hand popped out again and fingers waggled at his own head... "I'm mad though... " He grinned and winked... "It's well known that I lost my mind years ago."

He sighed softly as he eased into a sitting position, pondering just how real he was to himself. He understood what the other male was saying. Oh, how he understood it. He knew well enough what it felt like to be a false front of what once was. He himself felt like that at times, knowing he would never be as he was before.... Trusting, happy-go-lucky... Foolish. But was he truly a fool?

No. No more so than the man who sat before him dressed in the garb of what flims proclaimed to be the attire of a court jester. He seemed far too intelligent to be a fool.

He blinked as he glanced up. "Forgive me. It seems that I am not all there, which, in the case of the Cheshire Cat, also proves to be a form of madness, does it not? At least, according to the stories. But this is not that land of Wonder. No, it isn't... But where are we?"

"1.3 miles off the west side of the wilds village, as you bonded so call it." He waved his hand in an etcetera motion. "The village is just a hop, skip, jump, and... and a mile and 2/10ths away." He laughed as if he had told a joke. "Sadly, it's hidden from generally everyone. Including me sometimes. I can't tell you how many times I've gotten lost in the woods here while being antisocial." He peered at the other jivvin as Aara stared off into space.

"Afya? ... either that or Daewl, but you're talking to me pretty genially... so... the first guess is pretty acurate... Bonded, freed? ... " he was being nosy... but that's what he did. He caught you off guard and made you talk about things that you didn't think you could.

Aaralyn was generally good company as far as conversation was concerned. He talked rather freely as he had found that, sometimes, one could only learn through sharing themselves with others.

"Afya." He nodded slowly. "Although, I'm not certain how accurately I fit into that rank. I don't feel as if I do on most days... Even if I've been told that rank is something that cannot be changed, even if those within it differ... Or something along those lines." His nose scrunched slightly. "If I had a bond once I cannot recall... I reside with a woman and her family now, but there is no bond involved... Just a kinship. Like family itself."

Bay laughed... it was loud and heart felt... it was cruel...

"You've got a looooong life ahead of you then, and if you start questioning if you're fit to be afya now then you'll never stop. You're right about not being able to change your rank... you can't do that. You're an Afya forever." He leaned forward and picked a leaf off his boot. The movement was swift and clean with little or no extra flippancy. "Its a sad thought but, all you can be is a really good afya, something in the middle, a really bad afya, or deserving of a death that will never come." He inhaled deeply and seemed to brace himself. "You're Afya Aara. You're Afya, you're unbonded and if you're lucky you'll live forever, so cheer up or you'll hate every second of every day." ... ... ... "Or if you're unlucky... however you choose to look at it." sad...

"You live at the center with this family of yours?" He'd heard of the center... there were lots of bonded jivvins there... they were the ones that were somehow managing to nab the crystals from the forest before the village scouting parties could... good for them he thoguht.

"That is what I've heard... Then again, who is to determine what is good, bad, or deserving of death? Although one may live forever, that does not make he or she a god with the right to such things." His ears flickered slightly. "I have learned that forever is a very long time to think about tomorrow's... So, often, it is best to simply think of today... And today has brought me far from home to the company of one who wished for it." A slight nod.

Family. Did his family live at the Center? "No, not at the center... But close to it. Close enough that the woman who took me in has come to be of friendly aquaintance with the woman who watches over the Center itself. I visit it from time to time when I feel the need to escape... Or the need to talk with others... It varies."

"I talk with so many jivvins... people in the village are generally friendly." He peered around Aara into the woods... "There's always things needing done there, so I'm never without 'stuff' to do... but I'm a throwaway friend." He winked at Aara. "I'm that guy you can trust, the one who nobody talks to so you can tell him the things that you need to say without fear that he'll tell other people... and I don't. The only problem is that I'm that guy for a LOT of people. Not many people take me serriously, but then that's the way I prefer it." He winked at the other Jivvin. "Works good that way... Afya's are supposed to listen and help out afterall, but sometimes? .... sometimes I just have to get away." He smiled over at his companion. "So we're alike, but for different reasons..." Somehow that said it all, made no sense, but made all the sense in the world.

"What made you come out here really?"

It did make sense. Perfect sense. Wonderfully brilliant sense. There were times that he knew he was needed just as there were times that he knew he needed to escape. He nodded slowly. "Yes, we are alike. That much I can agree to and it is more than just our rank that makes it so. There is something more, even if it goes unsaid..." And sometimes, things were better left unsaid.

"I was on the path that usually leads me home... Only this time, it didn't. This time it brought me close to a Village that I've only heard tales about and a man who wished to be away from villagers who, perhaps, needed someone to talk to anyways..." A slight gleam twinkled in his golden eyes. Laughter? Yes. "Afterall, did you not just say that Afya's are supposed to listen? Perhaps you needed to talk."

Bay snorted and grinned... "Did you ever stop to think that you might be the one who needed to talk?" He stretched his arms up over his head. "Then again, maybe we both needed to talk, or not talk as the case may be... in any case, I don't believe in coincidence and I certainly don't believe in fate...." he sighed, suddenly saddened. "That would be cruel."

Then he moved suddenly to one side and reached for a stick... "Here I am trying to tell myself I'm the upper hand, But you know... you're the one that's lost... I know where I am."

"Have you ever stopped to think only to find that you've forgotten to start again?" It was silly to say such a thing but, just maybe, it would get another grin. "Things happen for a reason, whatever the reason may be... Even if said reason is neither fate nor coincidence. Perhaps the reason was simply that someone thought to play a joke, which those in the woods often do."

He paused for a moment, tail flickering behind him as he thought. "Now... As for lost? I wouldn't call myself lost. The trees may have moved but the path that I took through them should still be there if ny nose is good enough to follow it home."

"Is it? .... your nose I mean. It's quite handsome, that's the truth, but beauty often denotes a lack of actual substance." He tapped his own nose. "A nose with a bump in it would surely be better if I intended to use my nose for actual sniffing and snuffing." He sniffed and snuffed for emphasis... "But me? I'd rather be pretty. People expect less from handsome creatures... they think you're less intelligent. People think you're a stupid fool then they're never expecting you to help them, or even know anything..." He turned and glared at Aara.

"But I talk too much... it gives me away." He gave a mock sigh and a fake sad smile." It's so hard to be both beautiful and smart... They're both so natural that I can never remember to be only one at a time." ...

and then he laughed. "Do you need me to point you away from the village?"

"Looks can be decieving, you know... And sometimes it's not so bad to have people expect less of you. That way you can blow them away with stun and suprise when you prove than you're more than they thought you would be." He nodded. "Then again, if I paid much mind to what everyone else thought I certainly wouldn't be where I am right now, would I? Of course not. I would've stayed home to watch the two usts because their thoughts just so happen to think that I should stay with them always."

A pause, followed by a faux dramatic sigh. "Aye, I suppose someone should point me away from the Village eventually and who better than you, who I've already found?"

He put his long skinny finger longside his nose and tapped it twice. Then he gave Aara a wink and jingled the bells on his sleeve. "I know the deception game better than you can possibly imagine." then back to the flippant fool he usually seemed to be. "As for away from the village, I'm pretty sure I came from that direction." Bay pointed. "And as you may have already surmised... being both intelligent and handsome, such a rare beast you are, I arrived here FROM the village... so you may want to start off going that'a direction." He pointed in the opposite direction with his other hand, giving him crossed arms and quite the comical appearance. "If you were leaving that is. If you are I should quite like to have another heart to heart with you... should I schedule you in for next week? .... being the handsome intelligent jivvins we are, one of us is sure to have his heart broken by then, you think?" ...

"As much as I would like to stay, I believe I've been gone for long enough today." He nodded slowly as he tilted his head in the direction that Bay had pointed him in. Yes, that was the right way... He knew it without even sniffing.

A smile curved his maw as he nodded. "Aye. I should very much like to meet with you again as well... And perhaps we'll each have some stories to tell. If we don't, I'm sure we can make some up. As for heartbreak?" He made the motions of a mock swoon as best he could in the form he was in. "I prefer tails of adventure and comedy. Lightens the atmosphere much more than drama...."

"All the world's a stage my friend.... All the world's a stage." He stood and dusted himself off, then proceeded to reperform the bow that opened their conversation... "I bid you adieu and wish you the best from all your journeys..." He turned and walked a few paces back towards the village, hips swinging and tail swishing, he was an actor through and through...

then he turned and smiled softly back at Aara... "Thank you for your conversation my four footed friend... you may call me Bay."

"Many thanks to you as well, Bay... And you may call me Aara, as the few I count as friends do." He nodded before mimicing his own 'bow' as best he could. "Happy trails to you... Until we meet again." With that he turned, trotting off into the woods. He had a feeling he'd find his way home just fine this time... Just fine.

(( Bay and Sameil :: Nov 3 2006 ))

he sighed.

Bay leaned back into the tree, letting his muscles relax further, and stared down the path without emotion. This was a looong day, and long days jsut meant long hours full of long minutes and all that left plenty of time for longing.

he sighed.

Bay was trying to listen to the forest around him... trying to listen for footsteps and be a good wild jivvin, worthy of the status... but truth was he was currently so deep inside his own head, wallowing in his own past, that an elephant could walk up and sit beside him without his knowledge.

he sighed.

Bay began to realize that he was barely breathing and that he was slightly cold... but that was probably because it was late fall, he only had a lightweight coat on and he was barely moving.... he didn't care. He was too... too... what? He didn't know.

But he did sigh.

Sameil padded down the well-worn path that lead to the House, tail swishing lazily as she glanced at the leaves coating the hardening ground. Crinkling cheerily under her paws, the created a unique melody that shifted and changed with every step, and the colours were a refreshing splash compared to the monotone green of summer. The green Jivvin supposed she would find them almost beautiful, if they would stop sticking themselves to her claws and forcing her to stop to take them all off.

Still, it had been a while since Sameil had gone to the House, and she definately needed to catch up with her reading. Another plan for a flying machine was forming in her mind, but first she needed to figure out just what made Uuthlis actually fly.

The Llar muttered plans and curses underneath her breath, ignoring everything for the calculations in her mind.

Slowly Bay pulled out of his daydream. He had a sore spot on his brain, as if some inner part of him had been poking at his brain, trying to get his to wake up and notice something... alright.

He looked about him and didn't see anything. Great. *snap* ... But that had been something hadn't it? He returned his gaze to the forest around him and saw a fully grown Jivvin padding down a path a short distance away. She didn't seem worried and she seemed to know where she was going... True she was headed this was and would be here in a matter of moments... but he really didn't feel like getting up and being himself.... actually that wasn't true. This current state of lethargic slump WAS him being himself. The rest of that crap he did was all an act.

So he simply chuckled at his own irony and returned his head to it's reclining position against the tree... awaiting the Jivviness headed up the path.

Sameil's ears twitched at the chuckle, and the green Jivvin quickly stalled her current train of thought for another, more convenient, time. She continued to lope down the path, but her eyes glanced up to see who had made the noise.

Seeing a jester-like person leaning against a tree was certainly something unusual, but what mattered more importantly was that this person didn't seem to be one at all; they had the ears and tail of a Jivvin. Sameil had met someone like that a very long time ago -- she recalled his name as 'Gus' -- back when she had been a mere Ust, when seeing something like that was interesting, but nothing special.

Now, however, she knew differently; there had been nothing in any books at the House about this strange Jivvin-human mix, and Sameil wanted to learn, to scratch that itch of questioning. What better way of learning than from something that was living through it?

So Sameil padded over to the creature and came to a stop at a comforatble distance. It never hurt to be polite, especially if you wanted information.

"Good day."

Bay didn't even open his eyes, he simply sighed inwardly. "There's one major assumption in that sentance you just uttered which simply isn't true... actually I'll give you a hint... today is indeed, a day. So the false part of the assumption must be the 'Good'." The sore spot in his brain started to ache as his conscience slapped him, and slapped him hard. He was being unkind. His eyes slid open and he looked at the jivviness without surpirse. "How may I be of service m'dam?"

Ah, the creature was upset about something. Sameil mentally rolled her eyes and sighed, but shaped her maw enough to give the closest thing to a smile that a Jivvin could give. If he was too woeful to give her serious information, than she would just leave.

"I am sorry for interrupting you, but I was wondering if you might be able to answer some questions I have, sir?" She bowed her head slightly to him, keeping eye contact now that the somewhat annoying creature had his open.

He raised an eyebrow and pursed his lips to one side. "Have a seat and ask away m'lady." She was headstrong, he could tell. And she wouldn't be pushed away lightly... she also would have intense questions about something... probably village realated since she was asking them of a stranger.

He crossed his legs at the ankle and folded his long skinny fingers together on his lap.... ever the air of someone who 'was listening.'

She flicked her ears in response, sitting gracefully before wrapping her tail loosely around her paws. If he wished her to be blunt, then she would be. Besides, she was finally back in shape from her first mishap; she could run faster than anything on two legs.

"I was wondering how, exactly, you are in that form." She blinked softly, trying to look as relaxed as she could. "You look like a Jivvin, and you smell like one, but you look nearly human. How is that scientifically possible?"

Bay gave a slight smile and tapped the crystal strapped around his neck. "I'm Quen form... though I believe it's called 'fourther' where you are from." Bay had made it his perogative to know things about the bonded jivvins... "I don't know that it's so much a matter of science or scientifical, so much as belief and magic." He shrugged skinny shoulders under his tunic and smiled at her again. "I've had my crystal all my life. I grew up this way. I've never questioned the way it works. Perhaps in subconscious fear that it might stop working and return me to the world where thumbs are merely a dream for creatures like you and I."

Fourther. . . She remembered Gus mentioning something about that, as well. Hmmm-ing quietly to herself, Sameil mulled over the tidbit of information the 'Quen' had given her for a moment.

"So this crystal has 'magic' in it, and allows you to be nearly human, correct? Must you be always wearing it in order for it to have an effect?" She paused for a moment. "You also said 'where you are from'; if you do not live with a Bond, where else is there to go?" Curiosity had always been her tragic flaw, and this Jivvin certainly wasn't helping any. Could there actually be a place where she could get away from the hectics of her Bond's house?

He narrowed his eyes at her, trying to detect trickery or... or... something. But he couldn't see or feel anything... not that he felt much anyway...

"I'm from the village. I am not bonded, never have been, never will be. I was born to two afya jivvins, one a former member of the royal palace jivvins and the other a natural wild jivvin. I was given my crystal by my father who recieved it from Taxly, hundreds of years ago.... my name is Bay'lohved, and what few friends I have call me Bay." He paused for a second and regaded her reaction... "No. I do not have to be wearing my crystal in order to remain Quen." He reached up and removed it for closer inspection, lying the leather strap and crystal at arms length on the forest floor. "I simply wear it because my father gave it to me..."

"Ah. A more sentimental purpose than anything else," she murmured to herself, standing up slightly to examine the crystal closer. Nothing seemed special about it, other than it was the same colours as Bay'lohved's ears and tail. How could something like that be able to warp a creature's body? she turned it gently and cautiously with her tail and paws, examining it from every angle.

"I have never heard of this village. Is it far?" She asked, eye flicking up from the crystal to what she assumed was an Afya. "Also. Do you remember your first transformation, and was it painful? Are you stuck in that form?"

Bay nodded. He just liked the silly thing, but... "No. I'm not stuck, but I do need the crystal to keep focused. Some jivvins can change back and forth without their crystals after the first time... I need mine. Also if I were to change, I would require a bag to keep all my belongings in, since I'd not apreciate being naked when I change back." He looked over at her blankly. "I was very very small for my first transformation. I do not remember it at all, though my mother once told me that I was completely quiet during the entire process."

"That is very . . . interesting," the green Jivvin commented, storing all of the information so she could remember it later. She nudged the rainbow crystal back towards the Afya, and returned to her sitting position.

"Is there any way that I could go to this village of yours? It sounds like there is much more information there than at the House, and I need as much as I possibly can for a . . . project I am working on." And if she ever wanted to make her dream possible, than she would need that information.

Besides, if he refused to take her, she would simply follow him there. Bay'lohved seemed to be the type to not be aware of his surroundings.

"I believe that everyone should travel some and see things that they've never seen before." He picked up the crystal and reattached it around his neck in one fluid motion, not one finger misplaced or moved uneccessarily. "That being said, it's not my place to show you the village. There are jivvins at your center that know how to get to my home, and maybe, if you ask nicely enough, would take you there and assure your safety." He sighed. "Please... understand. If I took you there, or even simply showed you the way, you would be set upon by the guards before you even smelled Rae's brown bread cooking on the fire." He shook his head. "If you really wanted to get there then there are books in the center library that you should read." He thought for a moment. "True, that the more important books have been stolen, but the bare basics are still there."

"I have been through all of the books at the House." Weeks of boredom and not being able to move much had solved that problem, at least. And while she could still follow this strange Afya and most likely dodge the guards, she was sure that she would be caught upon entering a completely unknown area where she did not know any hiding spots. She knew how to calculate chances for things succeeding, and currently that number was too low for her to even think of the risk.

Another way in, then.

"Do you know the names of these Jivvins?"

He did. "The jivvins who have visisted the Village... Jack, Scion, Zelda, Satou, Kylara, Cira, Rhea, and many many more" He paused. "Jack's one of the most knowledgeable, though I believe that he's been banned from the forest... Satou, I believe is currently in the village, so you won't find her...." He thought about it some more. "You just have to convince someone you know to go with you, and then you need to know what you want at the village. Bonded Jivvins are not, sadly, always accepted pleasantly. There is a bit of traditional predjudice running through the members of the unbonded... it dates back to the days when we were still Royal pets."

Rhea. . .? Sameil blinked at the name of the Jivvin that had given her Mino, distracted slightly by nostalgia, before zoning back in and listening intently.

"I will be sure to remember," the Olplyn replied, and nodded her head at Bay once more, "and I thank you for all of this information. Unfortunately, I must be leaving, as I have more business I must attend to." Raising herself to her feet, Sameil turned back towards the House.

"May you have a better day, Bay'lohved." With a final flick of her tail, Sameil disappeared around a bend in the path.

Bay smiled faintly and let his head lean back against the tree agian. His thoughts fading quickly back into the past, the place where he lived these days...

"And you... M'lady." He closed his eyes and let Sameil's image fade and chage into the jivviness that he always thought of on days like this one... "And you m'lady...."

(( Bay and Zelda :: Jan 02 2007 ))

It was built for us because we let the Council use it for a trial," she explained from the kitchen, heating up the water magically, returning some minutes later with two cups of tea and a teapot on a tray.

Zelda muttered something under her breath at the child's shock, more of irritation than pain. The shock didn't hurt, but she didn't want Spawn to know that electricity didn't really hurt mommy so much.

A friendly nod was extended to Bay, and she waited until he had left completely before turning her attention to her mate. After staring angrily at him for a moment, she merely sighed and waved him off, moving to clean up after her guest. "You need to stop spoiling him, or he'll never respect any authority... Even his parents."

She gave him a pointed look before returning to her cleaning.

"He respects me," Scion countered with a hint of a smirk, taking a seat at the now-free table to finish his drink. "He is a smart lad. Perhaps if you allowed him a bit more freedom, he would respect you as well."

(( Aara and Bay :: Feb 15 2007 ))

Winter was still lingering in the woods but it wasn't as cold as it had been. No, it had warmed considerably making it so that he could wander through the woods on two legs, rather than four. Leather boots had been made to fit his feet and he wore them well enough along with a soft pair of pants and a white shirt he'd borrowed from Keith.

He took the edge of the cloak he'd borrowed from the dragon, swishing it away so that his tail could move freely beneath it. Clothing was still something that he was trying his best to accustom himself to but it was necissary for the great outdoors. Too bloody cold to wander about outside without any... And, besides, he'd also been told that things like that were inappropriate.

The forest looked different from this height. He had to remember where he was by parts of the trees other than the trunks... By something other than scent. His nose was still good, but not nearly as good as it was when he was on fours. Where had he wandered off to?

Bay was trudging through the snow. He was out in the woods, headed for the lake a few miles out. His tunic had been left behind in his cabin in favor of a leather jacket given to him by someone long ago. So the normally colouful Bay was simply earthtones today... in fact the only colourful thing about him was his language....

He hated snow. Each foot had to be lifted higher than normal just to get over the crust, and there really hadn't been a path beat out to the lake yet. The only ones who really traveled out here were Uuthlis and Daewls... both had methods for staying above the cold, wet, white, bland, stupid, god forsaken.... "Agch! I hate snow."

He turned and yelled... "I HATE SNOW!"

His brow lofted, ears tilting towards the sounds of the voice echoing throughout the woods. He paused for a moment, listening on before turning. He knew where he was now... The lake wasn't far. Scion was by the lake and that voice certainly wasn't his. It would be best to warn whoever it was that he was entering territory that might not be the same twice.

As he drew closer to where he believed the voice was coming from he paused once more, tail swishing beneath his cloak. "... Hate is such a strong word to be used for something that will simply melt and disappear forever come spring." He nodded slowly, his voice carrying traces of the smile that had spread over his lips.

Bay startled for a second... he never had been any good at hearing others coming up behind him... "When you say forever, friend, you mean temporarily." He sighed. "We can't stop the rain."

And he stopped a second without turning around and took off one boot. He bent over to beat the snow out of it and peered behind him to try and see who was back there... but it was too hard to tell.

So he stood and turned, holding one hand out behind him and the other in the direction of the lake. "Is the lakeside, perhaps, your destination?"

"No, I meant forever... The snow that covers the ground today won't be the snow covering the ground next year." He nodded slowly, finding himself quite glad that his pants were tucked into boots laced so tightly that no snow could penetrate them. He couldn't imagine taking his boots off with how chill the air was. His toes would get cold.

"I wouldn't want to stop the rain... If there was no rain there would be no flowers. Things could not live without rain. The lake would evaporate without the rain." He liked listening to the rain. "No, I wasn't heading to the lake. At least, landing at the lake was not my intention."

Golden eyes drifted towards the other male, brow furrowing slightly as something seemed to click. "I know you. We met once before... And I told you I would come visit again, did I not? Perhaps that was where I was heading."

Bay peered at the man... Had they met before? "Yes.... I remember you." He nodded. "You've got a very interestin way of looking at the rain... Aara." Bay himself disliked rain... but at least rain was cleansing. "The rain always puts me in a sour disposition.... except this one time." He smiled quickly. "I stood in the rain. I'm not sure if I was trying to catch my death, or clean my feelings..." he shrugged and turned to walk on. "If you're not headed to the lake, where... may I ask? Where are you headed?"

"I've been told that I have interesting ways of looking at many things. My... Best friend says that I am overly optimistic. I? I like to think that, in a way, it makes up for his abysmal pessimism." There was laughter dancing through his eyes as he spoke of his crimson friend. They had spent a great deal of time together after returning from the woods... But it had been at least a week or so since they'd last seen one another. He'd have to remedy that soon.

"I don't believe I was headed much of anywhere, persay. I was... Wandering. Again. I wander often, but this has been the first time that I've done so on, well... On two legs." He grinned, looking down to his boot clad feet. "It's strange, but I like it."

He smiled and pointed at Aara's legs. "I had noticed by the way. How you finding those things? I imagine it must be quite the difference, but I wouldn't really know." He pointed at his own legs. "I've had mine about as long as I can recall... longer in fact I do believe." He shoved his lanky fingers further down into his jacket pockets, away from the crisp cold air. "As for optimisim... It's a blessing I think.... and sometimes, sometimes it's neccessary." ....

"It is quite a difference, actually. Things seem..." He paused, trying to find a way to put it without seeming overly silly. There was no way though, at least not one that he knew of. "Different. So very, very different. I'm still faster on four legs than I am on two and there are some things that I may never get used to... But I have hope." Yes, hope and a friend who was learning everything right alongside him.

"It can be both a bane and a blessing, I believe, depending on who it is that's attempting to view it as such. Kuro? Well, he hasn't alwys viewed my optimism as a blessing." He laughed, brining a hand up to run fingers back through his hair. "... I have done an awful lot of talking, haven't I? What of you? What brings you out today?"

"Mmm?" He turned slightly to regard Aara. "Oh not much. I was merely heading out towards the lake front. Had to get away from the village. I need to get away from there often, actually." He smiled kindly. "I wouldn't say that I was a loner of sorts, but I do need my privacy." He could think of plenty of things that irritated him, and that in itself irritated him. "I get mad, and the only way I can go back to being happy..." sane, his brian supplied the better word. "is to get away from it all. It's not very Afya like to get irritated or even mad at people..." And when he did... "When I get mad I get really really mad. Raechel suggests that I take walks...." He sighed. "and they help a little. So I guess that I'm just... wandering... like you."

"No, it isn't like an Afya... But it happens." His fail flickered, head tilting up in an attempt to see the sky through the trees. "It must happen to the best of us... I despise it when it happens to me. I know that I shouldn't be so frustrated or upset. I should be understanding." He laughed. "It becomes hard to remain both when there are young ones around."

"I only come to the lakeside when I am looking for the one who lives near hear. There is a small pond behind the house that I call home... It's calm there and I know that I'm usually left alone." He lowered his eyes, looking to the other male. "You came to get away... Would you like to be left alone?"

Bay stopped and looked the other man over serriously.... it was a moment before he spoke again. "no. No you don't bring up any feelings in me at all... except company and good conversations." He smiled and turned, going back to walking. "No, you can stay. I don't mind." It was another short while before he asked his next question. "you said little ones? You have children?"

"Children?" He picked up on those last questions, finding it easier to respond to them than to continue on with the previous conversation. He laughed, shaking his head. "No... At least, not biological ones. There are two lovely young Jivvin ladies who also call the house that I live in home; Beryl and Maeve. They are both bright young ones, filled with lots of... Spunk."

Then there was Jhadia, who was neither his nor Kuro's... But she certainly was a nightmare and one of the main sources of stress in the lives of those who knew her. He found it better to not talk about her.

"Spunk." He grinned at the word. That was how he thought about children... "I never really get along with kids.... It's just... there's just..." Kids brought out the worst in Bay. As he thought back on all the kids he'd come across recently he couldn't really remember one that he hadn't felt some kind of animosity for... "Something about the younger ones. They've always got that one thing going, they don't have any personal barriers yet and they tend to say exactly what's on their brains."

"Not all of them. There are some of them who seem to have a bit of intelligence beyond that which the gods above have granted them... But others?" He shook his head with a flustered sigh. Yes, now he was thinking of Jhadia. She was one of those children that never seem to know when to keep her mouth shut. "Perhaps the next time you and I cross paths I could introduce you to at least Beryl, if not Maeve. I've tried to do my best with them..." Where 'his best' meant not letting them talk to Jhadia.

A slightly worried look passed over Bay's face.... Kids... "If you say so, I trust you, Aara." But... "You won't be able to say that I didn't warn you when you see for yourself that I don't talk to children well." He gave a laugh that soundly remotely like a bark. "But then I'm almost sad when I think that I'm the last of me..... does that make sense? I know you say your girls aren't really yours, but I'm sure they learn from you and are like you in a lot of ways... there won't be any other Jivvins like me... not if I can help it."

"Just because they learn from me doesn't mean they are like me." His brow furrowed slightly as he looked down to his boots. "I find myself hoping that, through learning, they won't wind up anything like me. I don't want them to be like me... I want them to be themselves."

(( Continued :: ))

"I ended up like my dad." For a while... his brain supplied the last part of the sentance silently. He loved his dad, and it would have been great to be as well repected and loved as the yellow jivvin had been. "He was a great man, my dad." Bay sighed. "I don't think I'm all that great, but at least I've got potential. Maybe it's not so bad for your three to end up like you.... maybe not so bad at all." He gave Aara a grin and a wink.

"If you truthfully think that then you don't know me all that well." He laughed, bringing a hand up to run fingers through his hair. "If my three end up like me then the world is in for trouble." Alright, so he wasn't nearly that bad... But there wasn't need for any more than one of him, or anyone else for that matter.

"You knew your parents? Things must be so different in the village..."

Bay stopped walking and stared at the other jivvin. Was Aara trying to tell him that he didn't know who his parents were? "Surely you don't mean that you don't have parents.... I met a center Jivvin last week, she's just moved into the village, and she was telling me about her mother." He thought about it... "Yes... she did say her mother...." He was confused. "But perhaps... perhaps she meant foster mother, or .... "He sighed sadly. "I have not always been happy being a villager, but I could never imagine not having known my parents.

"Oh, I am certain that I have parents somewhere... I just... Don't know them." His brow furrowed slightly. "From my observation, those at the Center have been known to call those who care for them 'mother' because, upon hatching, that's who they see as their parental figures. Our lives are... Different here, it seems."

His brow furrowed slightly as he paused for a moment before crossing his arms over his chest. "I... Never really considered Skye my mother. I spent much of my time before I left to stay with her at the Center itself. By the time she took me in I had... Forgotten everything." Even now he couldn't clearly recall anything prior to moving in with the dragon. "As for the younger ones? I believe they cherish the bond that they form with those who care for them... Sometimes it is like the bond of a parent. Other times it is not. We are raised in two different worlds, not knowing any different until we become what I am now... Or, sometimes, just before."

"Mmmm. Bay nodded. Somewhere deep inside him he was glad that his parents were dead... that way they didn't have to see what he'd done with himself... but first and foremost he missed them. They were wonderful parents. "I miss my parents, and I suppose that anyone could be loving and caring enough to take a parent's spot in our minds... I never really could understand the bonding process, though. There is a young jivviness who just moved into the village. Apparently she used to be bonded, and she was trying to explain it to me... but all she could get across was how painful it was in the end." He shrugged.

"I... Wish I could tell you what it felt like... But I cannot say that I know myself. I am... Unbonded." He said that but he was slowly begining to question whether or not that was completely true in his own ways... Ways that were, all in all, best left ignored for the moment. "Beryl could probably explain it. She has bonded to one of the children of the woman I live with... Yet she has her own ambitions. I don't know how it works."

"Mmmmn." He nodded slowly. "If I ever meet this Beryl of yours I'll be sure to ask her about it. I'll admit that it has me more curious than most things." He reached out and ran his hand along the tall dead strands of grass at the side of thier make-shift path. "It would be interesting to get the opinion of one still bonded." Bay smiled and sighed contentedly.

"You know friend... there's something about walking with a friend that makes a journey more pleasant. Thank you for your company... I'll have to have you over to my cabin for tea sometime.... do you dirink tea?"

"I'll warn you now... Beryl is one of the young ones." He laughed. Yes, even despite her almost refined attitude, Beryl was still a child and Bay had said that he didn't care for children. "I am certain that, if asked, she would be only too happy to share her opinion on the matter though."

He paused for a moment, tilting his head towards the sky before nodding. Yes, there was something very good about walking with friends. "I... Have yet to experience tea. The woman I live with drinks it often... But the thought of sticking my snout in something so hot that it steamed never seemed appealing before. I suppose that would be different now. I might even enjoy it." He grinned.

(( page spam.... I'm just posting little passages for my own benefit, these are all out of wack, timewise, and NOT available for Rp because they're all past tense wink ))

Ranald's eyes flew open suddenly and she let out a grunt as something flopped down into her lap, waking her up. It took her a second to realize that it was an egg... a jivvin egg. Looking up, she frowned at Keppit standing in front of her, and shifted the egg into a less painful position. "You really think you need another jivvin?" as she frowned at the floor as she glanced over the large egg, and realized that it was a good looking one. Sort of african, like a giraffe or something, and it actually had a nice feel to it. "Satou and Gus are both missing, or dead or something, and mine are..." She paused, letting the sentance fade away. Alexander and Elayeth were ruined as far as normal went. She sighed, and lifted the egg into the air to hand it back to Keppit. "Good luck."

But Keppit didn't take the egg. Instead she just shook her head with a smile on her dark lips, causing Ranald to frown in return. "It's not for me." Keppit chimed, turning to walk away. "It's for you, and it's a female and a vhaid. I though you could use someone new to take care of."

"You mean a second chance to raise a kid who's not a complete a**." Ranald sighed again and regarded the egg with a new wearyness.

"No." Keppit shook her head and walked back towards her sister. "Besides, we haven't had all that much bad luck with children." She looked around as if she were making sure that no one was listening and then continued in a lower tone. "Alex may be an a**, and Elayeth might be an a** kisser... Satou might be dead, and yes, Gus is missing." She paused and sighed, mentally regaining composure yet again, and continued. "That doesn't mean that any of that was your fault or my fault, that's just the way it is. Take the egg, love it, enjoy it, feed it, and let it grow up. That's all you really need." She turned away from Ran at that point and headed for the refrigerator.

Ranald didn't have a response for that, so she just shifted the egg to it's own spot on the sofa and turned on the telivision.

~~~~~~
Alexander opened his eyes and surveyed his surroundings in a ridiculously bad mood. Who the hell did she think she was? Letting a little false vhaid into the house? How was he supposed to gain respect if he allowed trash in his own house? And after the arguement he'd had with his 'mother', the fact that there was a false vhaid egg in his house wasn't going to change until there was a false Vhaid Ust in his house instead. This was going to be a bad day... maybe even a bad week.
~~~~~~

Bayloh'ved crept across the path leading to Keppit's house, nose to the earth as he tracked who had come and gone over the last two days. He did smell jivvins, but not the blue one that he was looking for... the one that had escaped him.

Still in Llar form he slunk into the yard and looked around. In the corner by the cabin was a large purple and green jivvin, also a Llar. Bay chose to remain in his current form and strode up to the other. "I'm looking for the Gus Jivvin." what he didn't say was that he'd kill this other jivvin should he show that he knew too much.

Alexander just sighed and glared at this white and gold intruder. He didn't even bother to get up or really react to the other, "He's not here. He's gone missing, and good riddance. There's too many damn jivvins in this house..." He huffed his annoyance and plopped his head down onto his front legs, effectively ignoring the white and gold jivvin until a thought occured to him. "Though I guess you don't really think that way, being a villager and all. Do you refer to all jivvins with the species as a last name in the village? Pretty dumb if you do."

Bay would have growled at Alex, and maybe even grabbed him, if he'd been anything other than an Afya Demon. The Afya in him didn't really want to start anything new, and the demon in him hated the village for centuries of reasons. "I do. Others do not."

"Well, like I said, it's stupid." He plopped his head down again . "But that's not a new thing for the village. Doing everything a tyrant says, always cow-towing to a false vhaid, you guys have no spines... and your leader sucks."

"Does he?" Bay started to search his own jivvins memories for examples that might support Alex's opinion, but he was interupted again.

"Yeah. My cousins both went to the village and neither one came back. I've heard stories about how they rip the wings from Uuthlis and don't let anyone in who isn't worthy of jivvin life." Of course, Alex was misguided and partially wrong, but that had never stopped him from being unhelpful before. "If I were the village Vhaid, I'd make a lot of changes."

"But there's already a Vhaid, and I don't think he's ready to give up the job." Bay was more curious now than anything else. Here was a jivvin that apparently had nothing to do with the village, and he had thoughts of malice towards someone he'd never even known. .... .... Bay liked him.

Alex just stood up and started to walk away. This other jivvin bored him, and in his current mood Jivvins just made him madder. "There are ways to get rid of bad rulers." He scoffed, and then he was gone around the backside of the cabin.

Bay just stood there, still in Llar form. Now there was something that forced his poisoned brain into motion. If that Gus jivvin had already made it to the village then there was a chance that the villagers were already out looking for him. And even though there was really nothing they could do to him (so he thought), he'd rather actually be doing something worth getting attacked for. He couldn't be the Vhaid himself, he was Afya.... or some strange hybrid currently. But that didn't mean that he couldn't have some fun and stir up some trouble at the same time.... he might even make the villlage fall into turmoil, and that might mean more jivvins out in the woodlands... and that meant more food for him....

His mouth was already watering as he turned from Keppit's cabin and Alex, and walked back through the woodlands.

((Feb 04 2009))

Baylohved tromped back into his makeshift camp and the grin faded from his face. That Gus jivvin was gone. The wasn't the first time the black haired jivvin had tried to escape, but it was the first time that Bay couldn't imediately see the telltale scraping marks left behind by someone dragging thier legs behind them. In fact, as Bay looked around, there weren't even any footprints left behind... no anything, in fact.

He knealt to the ground and placed one of his pale thin hands into the dirt around the dead fire. Moment's later he cursed his Jivvin Afya counterpart as it became apparent that there was no magical tracking ability in this body. He might be able to take another living being apart simply by touching them, but he couldn't tell where the Gus Jivvin had gone, how he'd gone, when he'd gone, or even if someone else had been here.

Bay turned and glared at a nearby tree. Damn forest. Something had come to get the Gus Jivvin, and somehow the forest had responded by taking away all the evidence... probably a stinking magiker. Bay growled and faded into a fourlegged form, something of a mix between the White Ayfa and the Valz body... not an entirely comfortable mix, but at least this one had a nose that was worth a damn.

With a second growl and his nose pressed to the floor, Bay stalked off in search of any odd smell. If someone knew the Gus Jivvin had been here, then chances were they knew of Bay... and he'd be damned if he was going back to the fifth floor.

Baylohved woke and sat upright suddenly, and groaned slightly at the ache in his stomach. He stood slowly, stretched and walked over to a nearby stream where he knealt and doused his face with the chillly water. That took his mind off the hunger a little, but as the ripples faded from the water's surface, his own reflection came into a harsh focus... and it told a whole story.

Bay's normally thin and pale face, had become hollow and gaunt, and had turned more of a gray than any normal skin colour. He was wasting this body away slowly but surely. His hair was greasy and unkempt, his cheekbones were visible through his facial muscles, and his ribs were easily countable. Bay's normally colourful clothing had long since been left behind, leaving only a torn and grubby white shirt with dark brown leggins coated with mud. It occured to him slightly that he may need to find a new pair of boots soon, but then he realized that he relished the pain of sticks and leaves poking through the soles and bruising the soft parts of his new jivvin feet.

He laughed to himself suddenly. Oh but he was a mixed up individual. Groaning at hunger, loving the slight torture of bad shoes... knowing that he normally looked less deathly and ill, but refering to parts of his body as 'new' at the same time... It wasn't that he was Bay/Jaspin either... he was Baylohved through and through... the personality that had been stronger at the time the two had come together... but he still had the individual memories of Both Bay and Jaspin... and he had the memories shared by Jaspin and Naya, and Jaspin and Meros... he had the lasting memories of Jaspin and Gus, and every once in a while he came up with a memory that could only belong to that small pink jivvin sprite that Gus had called Shade`. Oh but he was confusing, and he laughed again.

He was spending too much time thinking... it was time to do something.

But what?

Suddenly an idea popped into his head... something supplied to him by the purple jivvin at Gus's cabin... Alex had been his name? Why settle for mere existance, when with just a thought he could take a place in the village... perhaps even as a council member... perhaps even... the vhaid?

He grinned. "I'd make an excellent ruler." Then his stomach growled. "And I'm hungry anyway."

(( ""sweet dreaming"" :: Aug 31 09 ))

Gus sat bolt upright in his small cot-like bed and stared at the wall for no less than 5 minutes in shock. As his brain settled down and his blood stopped throbbing through him, he allowed his body to relax and admit that he was here, in the cabin... safe and sound in the village. The image of the battered and broken little pink sprite body faded from his mind, but the taste of blood was still fresh in his mouth. Putting a hand up to his lip, Gus realized that he'd bitten it during his nightmare... so he patiently rubbed his eyes and brought his feet to the floor.

Looking at himself in the mirror, Gus noticed that he needed a haircut. "And a shave and a decent meal, a good book and a good night's sleep." he nodded to himself and rinsed his mouth out with water... the last moments of Shade the sprite finally gone from his mind, he turned to room behind him. Not for the first time, he found himself wondering if Spawn really minded being stuck here in the village with a loser like Gus, and as he watched the other jivvin's blanket rise and fall with each breath Spawn took, Gus knew that the other wasn't asleep... It was a guess, but probably a pretty acurate one since Spawn was much more observant than most...

He pulled the covers back up around his chest and curled into a little ball on his cot-like bed. That demon jivvin was still out there somewhere... but as long as he was in the village he was safe. ... ... probably.

~~~~~~
Satou leapt through the window of the burning building and landed on her left arm with a thud, causing a sickening cracking noise. As soon as she turned to look at her arm though, she realized that the noise had come from the building she'd just left... the house was burning from the top to bottom, engulfed in purple and green flames. The Ssan were closing in behind her, keeping her away from her family and the rest of the village... she began to feel a little panicy in her heart as she pulled herself to her feet. As she did so, pain shot through her mid section, and she realized that she had a sword wound in her abdomen... it was a familiar sort of wound, and as she looked up she saw Jack and Lysius locked in a sword fight, the latter a much younger version of her husband and lifemate... she tried to call out to them both to stop, but her voice couldn't be heard over the cracking of the flames and the calls of the Ssan. Just when she thought that she couldn't take it anymore, a large group of Sargtlins came around from behind the house, driving back the Ssan and pulling Lysius and Jack apart... As she knealt in the grass, watching the Ssan retreat, a ridiculously pretty young jivviness walked over to her with a smile. The young woman looked very familiar with a smile on her face, and as she helped Satou to her feet Saty realized who it was. She smiled back at the girl, the sword wound suddenly gone, and took the jivvin's hands in her own. "You look so much like your father."
"It's okay Mommy." Came the reply. "Kin I sleep with you?"
Satou opened her eyes and saw the top of Cael's blonde head over the side of the blanket. She blinnked twice and then lifted her own head to try and get her bearings. She was in her house, curled tightly into the arms of a sound asleep Lysius, cradleing Eilonwy to her chest as the girl slept peacefully. "Kin I sleep with you mommy?" Came the question again.
"C'mon sweetheart." She shifted to let her son join them in the bed, and smiled.
~~~~~~~

Roddik's head rapped smartly against the wall as he dosed, bringing him into a sudden sharp focus. He glared wide-eyed around the room, trying to remember what he had been dreaming about, but all he could get were snippets of a ship and blurry images of snow covered houses. Oh well. Dreams weren't what was important, it was the here and now that mattered.

With a sigh he heaved his tired old body up onto it's feet and padded over to the bed. If he was going to dose, then he would do it in a place where his head wouldn't hit the wall again.

~~~~~~~
Meis rolled over and grinned at the jivvin in front of him. The other looked just like him, all black with deep blue eyes, only this one was bigger and stronger... taller and just that much better looking. Meis knew that this other jivvin had to be his father. "I've heard so much about you." Meis took a step forward, closing the gap between the other jivvin and himself. As he did so, the male in front of him changed from his markings to Tihr's markings... and then from Tihr's colours to blue and then green. Meis frowned, suddenly wondering if this were his father at all. After completeing a round of neutral colours, the larger jivvin suddenly returned to the original image, of tall and solid black. Meis took a step back. "I thought.... I thought you were my father, but now...."
"I am your father." Came the reply. It was subconsicious apparently, since the other never even opened his mouth to speak, yet Meis heard his words very clearly.
"Then why... why did you change so many colours?"
"I do whatever I want." The larger male grinned an almost evil grin as the words arrived in Meis' head.
"Oh." He frowned. "Should I?"
~~~~~~~~

Rusty kicked out in his sleep and Luke came awake with a yelp. Calvin had been laying across the room on a sofa, and her eyes fluttered open with Luke's yip. "What are you crying about now?" she yawned and blinked. "Rusty step on you?"

Luke frowned at the room in general. The television had lapsed into some kind of paid advertising for vacuum cleaners and was casting an eerie blue tint around the room. "Why don't you come over here and try it. I imagine you'd cry out too." Rusty had a great metal paw, and even with Luke's own interior metal structure it was still painful to be struck at all with any part of the green jivvin.

"Aw, I'm not a baby like you." Calvin grinned evilly at her older brother. "I'm strong and tough and... stuff like that." She yawned again and flopped to the floor. "I'm going to bed. You can have my spot."

~~~~~~~
Baylohved grabbed the other jivvin by the front of the shirt in one hand and by the neck in the other. With a grin of pure evil enjoyment he lifted the other male off the ground and held him in the air in front of him. The other male was much thicker than Bay, but shorter. He had no doubt that the prone jivvin would beg for his life if he could, but that was far from Bay's mind as he crushed the windpipe of the other. "Just because." Bay whispered at his captive, and then he stopped the other jivvin's heart and dropped the lifeless man onto the forest floor. He growled his triumph to the sky and then knealt to take a peice of the dead man... but the other jivvin was gone. vanished into the night like he'd never been there to begin with. Bay's stomach growled and he turned...
Opening his eyes he pulled himself to an almost painful sitting postition. He relished the feeling as he glanced around him. Bay didn't really want to admit it, but he was getting weaker the longer he stayed here in the woods... he had to do something soon. He didn't really want to get any closer to either the village or the town, since he wasn't ready to risk losing himself to the white witch's clutches again... "Never again." he whispered. But his hunger was deeper than physical... he was hungry on the valz side of his being... and for that he needed to feast on jivvin flesh. "So hungry." He whimpered and curled into a tight ball on the forest floor.
