Billy had been dropped off uncerimoniously back at his lake, and the guards spared little time making sure he was comfortable befor taking the fresh wheelchair and piling back into their jeeps to leave him there.

With the news from the female doctor fresh in his mind, and now finally alone away from everyone for the first time since finding out, Billy kept himself submerged by his rock, not wanting anyone to see him cry.

Sid was looking for any excuse to do something that didn't involving exploring what his changed fingers to do to his typing. It was a bad sign when he kept thinking inanimate objects were mocking him, but maybe all he had to do was get out. As soon as he stepped outside with Billy's wheelchair he knew the sunglasses weren't going to help much against the sunlight... especially not when the shape his his face had changed. After he managed to get the rusty heap of metal down the stairs it was just a matter of getting it to the lake. The wheels squeaked the whole way, adding to his headache. He'd apparently only traded one pain for another with legs that worked. The sound also announced his approach to the lake. So much for dropping it off and sneaking away...

Even underwater, Billy could hear the squealings of his chair. Someone was coming! Was it that old man again- Sid? He drew in a deep gulletfull of water and "exhailed". Nothing was off. Nothing had changed. Everything was fine. When he peaked his head through the surface of the water, though, he realized he was wrong- something had changed, alright. "Well, hey, now!" He couldn't hold back his manic grin, even if he could subdue his giggles.

Sid wished he could have forgotten about all that was different, but it was kind of hard to with the new weight of his tail and the sunlight to content with the whole way.

"I brought your chair." He pushed it as close to the bank as was safe, pointedly trying to act like nothing was different. "You should really just ask for a new one."

"I don' need nothin' from them," He grunted. Besides, she had given him that chair. "Y'look different this mornin'! Don' tell me, lemme' guess- Y'got a haircut." Still grinning, he slowly swam closer to the shore, giving Sid's changes a good look over. He couldn't help but think he was looking positively delicious. At least from the rear.

"Did it on a whim," Sid said tersely. As he reached up to touch where his hair now ended at the shoulder, he unwittingly put his new 'fingers' on display. Once he noticed he folded his arms over his chest. He still without a shirt, but wearing anything over the scales- and the new fin- felt too weird. Pants were bad enough as it was, and as for putting sunscreen on the areas that were still normal...

Time to change the subject. "They give you any trouble up there?"

Billy was equally eager to avoid the subject of the labs, "N'more'n usual," He wove a tentacle tip dismisingly, "No', really, I din' e'en notice th'hair fer real- Lookin' good, brotha', really!" He crawled up onto a nearby rock, watching his friend with a grin. His old nervious tick seemed to have returned, the muscle under his eye that used to connect to a nostril twinging. When he spoke again, his voice wavered with just a hint of some subdued form of emotion, "Lookin' less li' a damn pink normie e'ery day."

"Not every day..." Sid moved closed to sit down. Would changing a little bit each day be worse than all the once, or better? Why the hell couldn't he keep his mind of the subject? He cleared his throat, glanced around, and adjusted his sunglasses. No matter what he did, they kept slipping. He really needed to get a hat.

"I'm glad you're alright..." he said awkardly. Then, more quietly. "We got your buddy to safety."

At least he was pretty sure they had. He hadn't stuck around to see if the tiger man was discovered before he came to. After all the trouble they'd gone to he'd better be okay.

The octopus nodded, running his tongue along the edge of his psudo-beak, "Good, good, lovely." He cleared his throat again, glancing over hte lake and then back to his friend again, "So y'e'er gonna' come swimmin' wit' me? Or y'jes' li' watchin' me crawl aboo' on th'grass."

"Nah..." Sid looked to the water and frowned, causing his teeth to dig ever so slightly into his cheeks. He quickly put on a more neutral expression. "I'll go swimming."

He was already dressed for it, and he had his own built in flippers, if that. His mood was sinking yet again, but who knew? It might help... He sighed, kicked off his now ill-fitting sandals, and dropped his sunglasses on top of them. If the new size of his eyes wasn't apparent before, it was now. He used one webbed hand to shield them, and is he waded into the water there was a part of him that wanted very badly to find the deepest, darkest place he could crawl into. He shook his head. He'd only drown that way, but the urge kept gnawing at him regardless. Maybe he needed a rock of his own. Or a cave. Or something.

Billy smiled, though, slowly slipping back into the water, "Y'go' gills yet?" He couldn't deny that he was excited to know someone else capable of joining him deep down in the bottom of the lake. The human part of his mind still thrilled at the ability to breath and function under water. Someone he could relate to in any way, really.

"I don't think so. Not yet." Sid moved deeper into the water, loath to admit that the cold felt nice. He trailed his hands along the surface of the water. He'd better just get used to it...

Billy disappeared under the water, shooting towards the fish-man, body contorting to allow him to swim circles around him. As clumsy and awkward Billy was on land, he wanted to prove he could at least swim well. Since growing tentacles anyway. Overall, the effect was closer to that of an excited puppy with a master finally wanting to play with him.

Sid smiled, the expression fading quickly as he reminded, yet again, he still had to learn to work around the new length of his teeth. He kicked out to join Billy deeper in the lake. He still wasn't going to admit it was nice, but his flipper hands and feet did make it easier.

"So wossit' like? Howsit' feel?" Billy watched Sid intently as his tentacles and webbing flowed gracefully through the icy water. "Feels good, don' it? Feels real good. Too good." Another aquatic islander, and Billy was sober enough to think of trying to relate to them.
