Anyway hello agian, my knee is almost done healing and I was informed by my friend that there is going to be an underground tournament taking place; 1st-1oo$, 2nd-75$, and 3rd-50$. An all out weapons tournament, padded of course. About 40+ people (beginners tournament) Anways my weapon of choice is the nunchaku. I have 3 weeks to begin training, just got it today. Does anyone have any useful tips, stratgies or moves to share with?

I havnt had much experience with the weapon but no one else seems to have anything to say so I'll say what I know.
If you are worried about long range attacks, use lots of side stepping and evading, then, to counter, use the chain from the nunchaku to entangle the weapon momentarily then strike with a kick. The nunchaku is a very useful weapon for defence as well as offence but do not forget about the rest of you body, the weapon should be an extension of the body. If you are trying to disarm an opponent, use the chain in combination with your arm to lock it up and create LEVERAGE, when disarming, leverage is your friend biggrin .

It's not a great weapon it's short and it's hard to control because your dealing with padded weapons you don't need to wory about the edge of a sword or any thing. Up close you can use the chain or rope to catch their weapon tangel it up and controle them thing is you can't hit with yours. You need to learn to block with the nunchaku and dodge then strike. Blocking is done in a few different ways one turn and hold the nunchaku strait in both hands to stop an attack on the cord or handles or by holding them close togeather and using the handles. Weapon sparring is something I don't like much because in a real fight you don't only attack with a weapon you also use your body and in this case they most likely wont allow you to hold a persons weapon with your nunchaku and punch, kick or trip an opponent. With weapons like this they were used in a way that allowed you to strike with your hands or legs but most groups that do padded weapon sparring say you can only attack with the weapon only. If they do allow you to do this block with your weapon and kick if you can catch their weapon and hold them togeather so you can punch or kick. Walk around your opponent and try to attack from the side or behind them.
