It had been a long day for the firey stallion, and it was evident in his body language as he trudged tiredly across the endless expanse of grassy sea before him, flat golden hues focused on the dirt beneath his hooves instead of the intense starry sky that he usually focused on. While he was usually happy to help whoever sought him out for advice or just a listening ear, listening to Shadows' heartbroken ramblings all day long was a bit much for him.

Stretching his forelegs idly as a small sigh was heaved from his lungs, Nanaki came to a halt before his favorite tree, golden eyes lifting to look upon the rough bark of the giant oak before a small, peaceful grin adorned his features, and he allowed his eyes to slide closed. It was nice, to live in a place where you didn't have to worry about life ending... about those close to you dying in battle, or falling victim to the corruption he knew so well. He felt very out of place here, with his battle-scarred hide and odd firey appearance- but it was something he was willing to live with, as long as there were peaceful nights like this.

A dim, flickering glow lit his path as he found his usual resting place beneath the huge oak tree, pawing at the ground lightly before he lay down on the soft grass, the flame of his tail warming him in the chilly night air as it curled around his side.

((Kyai--Shimshek's name is mispelt in the title. XD; She's missing an "h" in her name.))

As she circled around the sky, feeling the day's activities catching up to her, out of the corner of her eye she spotted something red... fiery... ish. Eyeing her landing point, she pulled her wings in for a sharp dive toward the rapidly approaching green ground. She was still pondering over Shinzu's words from that night long ago as she did so, and barely let out her wings in time before she could crash into the ground.

With as much grace as she could possibly create, she landed gently, and turned to see what it was she had seen. It was a stallion... was he asleep? Curiosity struck her, and so she walked toward him as silently as possible to observe. His tail was aglow--was it aflame? Didn't it hurt? Seeing this stallion had torn her attention away from mental woes, but only for the moment.

She crept closer, careful to keep her feathers from rustling too loudly. He looked fine... wait. He was awake? She wasn't sure, but she decided that she was close enough and made her way around the tree he was currently lying under, to spy a bit more on him. Was he friendly? Mean? Questions of curiosity ran through her mind in rapid-fire shots as she watched this new, interesting looking stallion.

|| Oops, sorreh ^^; fixed it now <3 ||

One golden eye slid open as an ear twitched in her direction, an amused, gentle smile adorning masculine features as he eyed the mare with a nonchalant interest. She seemed to be trying to be silent- she probably would have succeeded, if his senses weren't so attuned to hearing the almost inaudible- he did come from a place that was at war, after all; it would have been rather difficult not to pick up such habits.

He noted, rather curiously, that this mare also had feathery wings like miss Star Catcher, tilting his head slightly to one side as he offered her what he hoped looked like a disarming grin. "Something wrong, miss?" She looked somewhat nervous, although he couldn't blame her for that- he probably would have been on edge around himself, too. His tribal tattoos and battle-scarred hide probably didn't help his credibility with being somewhat of a pacifist, but there was really nothing he could do about that.

((It's okay! ^^))

She jumped when he spoke, nearly bolting into the air before she calmed down enough to realize that he wasn't attacking her or anything. "Oh, you're one of the more friendly ones, then," she said, breathing easier. She ruffled her wings, and returned his smile with an uneasy one. "Ah, getting caught is a befuddling feeling... how did you know?"

She shook her head at his question. "No, nothing wrong, just curious. You're new, and I thought I'd make a new friend and thensome." She came around the giant oak until she was in front of him, and then made herself comfortable by laying down in front of him, so that they were face to face but far enough apart that it didn't make them out to be lovers and such...

After all, breeding season was almost over, but that didn't mean there were still other Soquilis around looking for a lifelong mate. She observed him with silver orbs that reflected a confidence with a clarity of kindness; not that she showed it, but her personality depended on the one she was in company with.

He let loose a low chuckle as he nodded an affirmative to her statement, shifting to lay on his side and tossing his head so the spiky auburn forelocks fell away from his visage. "I've been trained in manners of stealth for the purpose of fighting... don't take it personally."

His lopsided grin morphed into a warm, gentle smile at the prospect of making a new friend, and he offered her a grateful nod as she lay down before him. "I can understand your curiosity. One of my companions of the past called me a... what was it? A 'walking freak show'?" He snickered lightheartedly here, remembering the strange girl 'Yuffie' that had prompted a few... odd conversations with him.

"Well then, it's a pleasure to make a new friend such as yourself, miss. My name is Nanaki, although some of my friends prefer to call me Red. And you are?"

She paused as he told why he discovered her, and she closed her eyes, breathing deeply. "Ah, is that so? Well, I suppose I won't. But you did ruin my fun a little!" She mock-pouted before breaking into a smile. This guy had a way of making her smile, and she couldn't figure out why, but she had a feeling he was going to be a great friend. "A walking freak show! How rude!" she insisted, although she snickered along with him, seeing as the way he spoke of it was quite amusing.

She thought back to her life beforehand, and then shook off her depressing thoughts. She was making a new friend, one she could probably really trust--he gave off that kind of aura--and one who was really kind. "Nanaki's a great name! ...Uh, Red?" she asked, confused, but nodded anyway. "I'm called Shimshek, though I know a few who call me White-Gold, though it isn't necessary since Shimshek means the exact same thing. You can call me Shim if you'd like."

She'd never known herself to be so friendly before. There were the few random times, like with Nagual An or Crystallin Arrose, but that was because they didn't seem like they would harm her... she had found her answer when she met Shinzu--she had been innately worried about others attacking her, others who could be crueler, and so she had made herself arrogant-sounding and selfish... in a way, Artemis Entreri had helped her discover this.

She smiled brighty at Red. "Would you like me to call you Nanaki or Red? You never did say so!"

He returned her smile with a lopsided grin that his adopted brother was famous for charming ladies with, although there was no ulterior motive behind it like there always was for Shadow. "Well, it is a great pleasure to meet you, miss Shimshek. White-gold seems a little... impersonal, don't you think?"

Her question caught him slightly off-guard- he couldn't recall anyone ever asking what he preferred to be called, they just chose one and stuck with it. The consideration was warming, and he found himself offering her another gentle smile as he met her gaze. "It doesn't really matter to me- whichever you feel more comfortable with. Nanaki was my given birth name, but Red XIII was the designation I was given as a laboratory specimen, and it's stuck with a few of the people I've met since then." He nodded at the 'XIII' tattoo on his left front shoulder, surprisingly neutral about the whole thing. Most, he suspected, would be bitter about being kidnapped and experimented on, but he was indifferent to the whole thing. After all, whether through coincidence or destiny, it had all lead to meeting his previous friends and the successful mission to prevent the earth's destruction.

"Same," she agreed. "I guess it does seem impersonal, but I guess I just don't mind. Whatever someone prefers, you know?" She began to pick at one of her wings. They were feeling itchy suddenly. She saw him smile at her and she returned his smile with a warm, genuine one of her own (a rarity in itself). "Then I shall call you Nanaki," she conceded. "Red XIII seems too... title-ish, too formal. If we're to be good friends, then we should begin with personal names." A wide, sly smile. "Of course, if you're considering it to be more than 'good' friends, I'll consent to the title of best friend."

She hid a laugh, though her body shook, proving she was merely teasing. "I am serious about the friendship, though. I've never really had a particular good friend." Oh, wasn't that the truth... "And so, Nanaki it is." She had the sudden urge... "Oooh! Can I call you 'Naki', instead? Not only is it a nickname of your birthname, but I think it suits you!" Silver eyes glittered joyfully at the prospect of an interesting new name.

He laughed openly this time, golden hues twinkling in his mirth at her dubbing of him. "'Naki, eh? That's definitely one I have not heard before, although I suppose it could be much worse. You'll have to let me call you Shi, then, as I believe that suits you as well." He grinned at her teasing, head tilted to one side in a gesture of false innocence as he contemplated her words.

"Best friend, hmm? Well, the title hasn't been taken yet, so you're welcome to it," he chuckled. "Although bearing the title requires that I know a bit more about you and vice versa, I think. So, Shi, would you care to tell me about yourself?"

"Naki!" she exclaimed. She felt like a filly somehow, but ignored it. "Shi? Hm, that's a new one too. Well, okay, shall we get to know each other?" She smiled. "What would you like to know about me? You can start with the questions."

She shifted a bit and then lay on her side, though she still faced him. "I can tell you of my depression streak, if you'd like. I have... multi-personalities!" She was half kidding and half serious as she said the words, but her eyes sparkled with the idea of a best friend.

"Multi-personalities?" He laughed softly, feeling slightly more open with her as he considered what questions to ask. "That sounds interesting. Does that just mean mood swings, or that when you change personalities, you won't know who I am anymore?" he teased lightly.

He took a moment to ponder her question, tilting his head to one side as he thought about it. "Hmmm, well... I suppose I can start with something simple, like... what is your favorite color?"

"Yes, multi-personalities," she emphasized with a wide, sly grin. "I guess it's kind of both, though I change personalities more often than not." She nodded. "Mood swings? I tend to run into a depressed kind of feeling when I'm stuck by myself thinking about my so-called terrors from the past."

She frowned as she recalled a few certain events, and then stuck her tongue out at Nanaki. "Geez, Naki, don't tease me about that! You got me started, too, hmph!" She pondered a bit more on Naki's next question, and grinned. "I guess I'll seem weird, but my favorite color is silver, despite my coat colorings..."

He smiled slightly at her question, tilting his head to one side to think a bit. "It's not that unusual, I suppose... my favorite color is blue, after all." There was a pause here, and another sheepish grin, although it faded as he heard her statement.

"'Terrors'?" he questioned with a slight frown marring his masculine features, brows furrowed and drawn together in concern. He felt a slightly protective instinct over this mare, and the idea that she might've endured what he had was slightly unsettling. "What kind of 'terrors'?"

"Blue? Ah, really?" She grinned. "Now that's unusual! Pretty cool, Naki." She chuckled at his grin, and then watched as it faded when he next said one word: terrors. "...yes... Terrors," she said slowly.

"They're not the kind of terrors that has to do with fighting, but it somewhat is," she explained. "My... past... wasn't very friendly," she finished carefully. She didn't really want to share her past; she had told no one--not even Aruna--about how she'd grown up, except that she'd grown up alone.
