Hey, i finally got some assignments back, and those that i was most happy with i thought i'd share. The first is a set of linoleum cuts that were printed:

This was the original drawing in sharpie. Not much changed although i wasn't really feeling up to carving it backwards, so in the end it was flipped. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v665/spacecadetbing/linotreesm.jpg

This is the sketch that was done directly on the lino.

The second assignment was a series of 4x6 inch paintings done on pieces of plywood. It's a series of apple things. The idea was to take information from a still life we'd done and translate it into something slightly more abstracted/stylized while at the same time referencing a well-known contemporary artist. Mine was Nara Yoshitomo...although my work has a slightly different feel to it than his.

Oh my god, those plywood paintings are the cutest things I've ever seen - I really love the concept, and the colours are absolutely beautiful. Really sensitive.

I definitely think that the middle two paintings are my favourite heart

Applehead is super. I want to hug him and squeeze him and pet him and name him George.

I really dig the high-contrasty goodness of the lino prints, too. I can't decide which of the two is my favorite. For some reason I want to see the second one cut into a pumpkin.

These make me think of my friend Omar, except you're better at drawing. I love 'em.

Wow these are really lovely. Have you checked out Aaron Jasinski at any time? I think you'd like his work.

i very quickly googled his name and glanced over some of his work. some pieces i did like, although they seem to be generally more melancholy than i strive to be with my own artwork.

I really like these, I think the last one is the best because it's pretty original. The colors are really well chosen, I like 'em a lot!
