Kanth's Diary Only she should be posting here.
------------------------------------------------------------

June 06'- Valent fighting young ninja! You've proven yourself a true master of your skills.

Nov 4th- Both the DDR and practice fighting have helped Erae become one of the most fit and atheltic of the Velvets. Imagine that. ^ ^ However the other games and extensive reading have also kept his mind well rounded and thinking. Brawny and not a moron, good job Erae. biggrin

August 27- Just like out of a video game! Or great adventure story. You and Erae passed with flying colors and Erae makes a stunning child. ^ ^ He seems to have picked up some fashion types from all those strange RPG's but I suppose when you really love something showing off your enthusiasm isn't a bad thing. heart

August 10th- You've been doing an EXCEPTIONAL job with Erae, teaching him things that use his skills already and hone them, while slowly but surely working his way on skills that are a bit more difficult. Perhaps that why your key has begun to glow?

Beyond door
Upon stepping through the door you hear aloud CLACK. Looking around you find a 10 by 10 old fashion prison cell.. Bars, few ammenities, and outside (just like in any good Western videogame) a old sheriff lounging back with a big scruffy dog. The window is tightly barred and rather small, but a soft glimmer let's you see that the dog has the set of key's around his neck. Hmm this is going to take a little teamwork to get out of.

July 24th- Erae is doing an exceptional job picking up those kindergarten like skills of the alphabet and math. I'm sure they come in useful for the things he likes. (reading the latest hit book or keeping beat to music). He certainly is an active little one, and though sword fighting might be a little frusterating for him now, once he's a child and can stand on two feet, he might just take a liking to it. 3nodding

July 1st- Fiction and fantasy? Sounds like little Erae is going to be a true RPG lover one of these days. heart While the heat may be making you guys a little lethargic, I wouldn't worry about it, there are always other days for more activities. On a side note Iris stopped by and dropped off a small sized necklace for Erae. It has a DDR like arrow and everything! Hope he enjoys it. heart

June 17th- It looks like all those trendy fun activities like DDR and popular science fiction have had an effect on little Erae. He may not be able to play DDR yet, but he's still very active and I'm sure you'll see alot more bobbin' to the music. ^ ^

June 5th- Wrestling with the black and white in yourself? A sweet soul that just keeps getting a bad wrap? The chest has come up with the perfect companion for you! A sweet little skunk. Please take good care of him, so he can grow to become something great. heart

Note to Velvet Owners

Velvet owners - only - are allowed to post in this journal. I post this beforehand because this is merely as how Kanth treats it - a journal. A notebook full of her memories, moments she's shared with Erae, Velvet owners, events... a plain, easy to read notebook. There are no locks on this notebook, nothing to stop you from opening it should you find it.

Feel free to post a journal entry, writing to Kanth - although, if you do so, be prepared to face the consenquences should she not like it. Every action has a consenquence, whether it be good or bad.

The question is... do you take up the quill and write, do you read without her knowledge, or do you let her secrets stay a secret...?

That is only for you to decide.

Erae's Fanart

(1) A head shot of Erae when he first changed. I used different colors, and it was a quick sketch.
(2) A quick sketch of Erae doing a DDR move, without a pad. One of my favorites. :3
(3) I was COMPLETELY floored with this picture. Naraka captured both Kanth and Erae perfectly in one of the moments they were in the shop, and he left me quite speechless. XD Thanks so much!
(4) Ahh, another beautiful picture, drawn by the wonderful DDB. Part of an art trade - I wanted to sketch her snake, so she agreed to draw my skunk. In this picture, he looks absolutely darling. I was blown away by the sheer cuteness. XDD Thank you!

Erae's Gifts

Necklace given by Iris, for Erae's skillz at the DDR pad. So cool!

A gumling... drop of some sort, which Huni Pi gave to every shopowner. o_O Erae's never had a 'pet' before... and I sure as hell am not going to eat it... raugh! What IS it?!

All About Skunks <3

Handle and Care
Skunks most definitely need to be handled gently, given lots of attention, and be taught not to bite. Their teeth are very sharp, and can make nasty wounds if they are not taught properly. If taught not to bite, the biting will lessen as the skunk grows older, and grow used to your household routine. They should be disiplined with patience, but not anger. Lashing out when you are angry and treating them roughly will result in them becoming mean-spirited and vicious, and also teach them to bite. Disiplining with a stern voice or a loud clap will work well, and it will get you a much better result than just yelling at them.

Learning and Playing
Skunks learn what you teach them easily; they can be taught to stand up on their hind legs for food. Stomping and charging at you with their tail in the air is a playtime activity for them, as well as playing tug of war with a favorite or special toy.

Good treats, patience, and repetition for the owner are the main things to teaching your skunk to do tricks. Skunks love to play with toys as well as you, so it's only fair to take your time with them. Most of the time skunks stay rather quiet for most of their lives, but sometimes they make a squealing noise and hiss.

Care and Cleaning
Most skunks, when introduced to baths, will adapt to water rather well. Bathing and nail clipping are very important to the health and well being of a skunk, and some skunks grow to love the water, and learn to swim easily. If descented properly, the skunk will have very little or none of the odor surrounding them. Bathing on a bi-monthly basis is usually all that is needed.

Some skunks take care of themselves by grooming their own fur, and only need baths about twice a year. Clipping their nails, however, should be done within a few weeks, continuously, to keep them at a well-to-care for-length.

Skunks shed twice a year, and earn a downy layer of fur in the spring, and a more coarse fur in the fall. The shedding process takes shorter time than that of a cat or dog.

Tender Loving Care

Keeping a skunk caged all the time will make it feel neglected, and cause it to always lash out and bite, yearning for attention. It needs to learn to grow around your family so it can adjust, and grow used to company. Skunks are very smart, and are capable of opening almost any cabinet and drawer in your household. They love to investigate, and are able to climb, not caring about safety when they get the chance to explore.

Children that are calm and well behaved will do well with skunks, as opposed to grabby, aggressive ones, unless the skunks are taught to respect them. They do get along with other well-adapted animals, and mutual respect is something that is taught when in a working relationship between pets or with children. They are extremely intelligent animals, and are rather stubborn and hard-headed, but most of all curious. They are physically strong for their size, and can get anywhere in your house that they desire. Some like to make a game of getting into the trash, into the refridgerator, your pocketbook, etc....

Skunks can be rather demanding as pets, like if they want to eat, they'll bug you until you give in. The same follows for sleep, play, or snuggling. No compromising can be made on their part as far as they're concerned, and most skunks enjoy being held and petted once you have caught them.

Info about Kanth

Gaian Kanth is somewhat of a mystery. Most of the time, her outfits often reflect her mood. She limits herself quite often, but...

Feh.

Not much else is known about this shapeshifter, I'm afraid.

*writes little notes here and there on sticky notes, and pastes them to the outside of the computer*

June 5th to 6th, 2004

I recently got my plush, and it's an adorable thing. I have it sitting on my desktop next to my stack of black and white photographs right now, along with a haphazardly stacked pile of fantasy books. There is no music playing, but there is anime playing on the TV - an action film. It's a little strange to have a skunk plushie, or a skunk in general. Truthfully, I know practically nothing about the things; I know I probably have researched them before, but I have only a few select things I remember from my childhood, so there are some things that are a must know for skunks that I have to research again.

I've been told that most people think of skunks as a stinky animal, and most don't even get to know it. Truth is, there are things behind what is evident, things that are hidden from the outer eye that have to be seen with the inner soul.

Yin and Yang, black and white. Those are the colors on the skunk, just like the colors are inside my soul. It seems like this is a perfect match after all.

I grow tired now, however. It is past bedtime for me, and I plan to sleep in late so I get enough rest for the morning. As for the plush, I still need to name him, but he'll be sleeping with me tonight. Research the name, yes. Something along the lines of Irony.

*snuggles skunk plushie and walks off, yawning*

June 6th, 2004, @ 11pm, Sunday Night

Tonight, I played Dance Dance Revolution with a friend, a game we've both been practicing for a long time, trying to become better. We're nowhere near good, but we're both just making it on Standard level, and playing our favorite songs such as You Leave me Alone, Ordinary World, and The Shining Polaris is the most recent one my friend has played, on Heavy mode. It seems that I'm just moving into Standard Mode (Trickster Mode), while she's moving into the Heavy mode. You Leave me Alone is my favorite song, and I listen to it over and over again.

It's funny. I leave my plush to watch the whole thing, and more friends come over. We're all hanging out together, playing DDR (most of us) and all around having fun.

I hope my skunk will change to loving DDR as I do. The songs are kind of catchy. I'm going to go to bed soon, though, because I'm tired. I get so tired easily nowadays, but at least I'm at a friend's house for a week, away from my parents. It's kinda nice, but it's also kinda hectic.

Some things just won't change.

June 8th, 2004, @ 1:21pm, Tuesday Evening
Things have been so hectic lately. I'm glad to be home, and I've put my skunk plush among my other plushies so he has something comfortable to be near. Sometimes I think I have too many plushies.

I've been off and on the computer, but I've been packing mostly for my trip to Alaska. I am most definitely taking a few of my plushes, along with my skunk plush. I hope none of them will get lost in my travels, this Saturday.

I've been listening to more DDR music as of late, and I only hope that my future animal won't be as addicted as I am, though I'm not sure if that will be a good thing or bad. As much as I've been hanging around DDR, it seems he might pick up a few things. ^^;

Right now I'm scrambling to get together all of my books (most of them being fantasy and study of magic), while trying to balance my plush on my shoulders. My family thinks it's rather amusing, but I pay no heed to them, because they tease me about everything all the time.

I'll get to see my family soon! I'm so excited.

... I wonder if I'll have to pay extra for taking an animal on board with me. Or if they'll allow skunks at all. Heheh, that'll be worth a laugh, to see the look on their faces.

June 8th, 2004, @ 11:34pm, Tuesday Night
It seems the only time I can really update this thing is during the nighttimes, but I don't really mind.

I've been wandering alot, but have never left my plushie behind. I always liked to carry around my stuffed animals wherever I went when I was little, too.

I've been so drained lately, and so tired. I can't really place why, but at least I have a reason to snuggle with my plush. Some could say I'm childish, but at this point, I don't really care. What I feel is my business, and they can just watch.

Oh! Before I forget, I think I've found the perfect name for my skunk when he becomes an animal, though I have to wait to see if he likes it. The name Erae seems to stick in my head, pronounced as erray. Tweaking names has always been a specialty of mine, especially in stories.

I just hope he likes it, or I'll have to think harder.

I haven't had much time to myself, but as I curled up in bed, a book caught my eye, which I had to snag and read outloud to myself, practicing my Irish accent a little bit. Hehee, I swear I could have seen my plushie wink at me, though it could also have been my eyes tricking me.

The book was labeled The Phoenix and the Carpet, by E. Nesbit. On the cover it was labeled as a classic, though I've never heard of it before. The starting of the book was boring, and I had to put it down because I really wasn't in the mood to read that kind of a book, as it started out a little like the Narnia series did. I loved the Narnia series, but for some odd reasons, I'm just not in the mood for certain books.

Instead of that one, I started reading The Bone Doll's Twin, which was a fantasy genre, and I've read before, but I didn't mind reading the introduction again.

It wasn't long until I completely conked out, sleep having caught up with me, and claiming it's prize.

June 9th, 2004, @ 8:44pm, Tuesday Night
It seems that Naraka and I got into a little spat at the shop today. I wanted to befriend him, and all he would do was shout back at me. I don't know what came over me, but I offered him a bit of my blood, and he seemed to calm down at that, but still accused me. I can't quite remember what set him off, but the next minute I found myself grabbing his cloak as he started to stomp off, yanking him back so we could yell at each other some more.

It didn't end like that, though. We came to an understanding of each other, but I still don't know how I got through to him. I -think- he accepted my friendship, but again, I'm not sure on that.

I don't know what Erae will think of it, but I hope he realizes later that we made friends. I'm not sure... what he'll think about fighting at all.

It still feels strange to talk about a cute little plushie.

Well, Yume came into the shop and she played with Erae a bit, saying that I shouldn't change myself, and that's what Erae wanted - for me to stay the same, and not become a vampire. I laughed at that, saying that I couldn't become a vampire unless I drank his blood.

Things went up from there, and time passed quickly to where Iris came in, carrying a large cake. She seemed rather extravagantly happy, and I was relieved to get away from the conversation with Naraka to ask her what the occasion was.

It seemed that she thought she was going to be alone, and have a party with just the plushies, but she was more than happy to share when she saw how many people there were. Iris always seems so cheerful... no matter what, she always keeps that smile.

I offered tea with the cake, which gave me an idea, but I shan't divulge my secrets here. Only Erae nows of them, and so far, he'll be keeping my secrets.

I just wonder for how long. whee

Later that night, I shared stories - legends if you will - with Naraka and a few other people, which urked Naraka, because he wanted up the spiced up version. Another fight came from that, about friendship.

I think I need to spend more time with Erae, because most of the time, I'm too busy mingling with others, and don't even realize it.

June 11th, 2004, @ 12:45pm, Friday Afternoon
Lots of things have been happening lately. First, there was somewhat of a fight in the shop (if you could call it a fight), which resulted in me being slightly uncomfortable, and not knowing what to do with the situation. I promised everyone a story, but after that incident with Yume and Tenez trying to tick Naraka off, I just couldn't find the right words to start my story off with.

I gave Naraka a huge leatherbound book of stories, and he seemed to enjoy it, but I never quite got his answer out of it. He was lugging it around with him everywhere, though. I stayed up all night researching with Erae, but I don't know his favorite story yet. Hopefully I'll know when he becomes an animal. We had lots of fun, and stayed up late having orange juice and other such things as a midnight snack, something I haven't done in a long while.

I'm kinda okay with kids, and I found this out after Naraka nearly scared Fyrn, the little dog boy, into submission. I think he thought Fyrn was someone else. I offered Fyrn a chance to pet Erae, but he only pet him a moment before he went back to Naraka, and then to Saeru. I was a little bit jealous as I looked at Saeru and Naraka hug Fyrn, but I could tell Saeru didn't like little ones much, as he nearly rolled his eyes.

I cuddled with Erae all night as I left the pet shop, too tired to think. I loved Erae, he was mine, and I was his. We belonged together, and when I realized it, I felt like I belonged more than ever.

Together, we made the Yin and Yang. Just like the story with the black and white dragon, each battling for power, but neither ever winning.

Hello, that just might be his favorite story after all... heart

Man, where do I begin? Things, as usual, have been hectic. I have been put to work lately since I arrived at my relatives house, and earning little money. Every single time I get, I use it to spend time with Erae, coloring, drawing, playing video games, and other such things.

It seems that Naraka has been having problems with other people, but not with me. I would hate to tell him that I lied to him, but... aiyah, it seems like the only thing to do. It's not true that I have a little harpy in me, but I am truly a shapeshifter - I may have the mindset of a harpy, and also that of a human - but they are both mixed together (in a sense), one winning over the other at times. I've been told that I have quite the temper.

Erae has been with me most of the time, and I've been telling him everything I could. Naraka is NOT a sweetheart (even though he tries to be), and most of the time he can be a real jerk. I appreciate Saeru and his bluntness, though I'm a bit blunt at times as well. And Iris is the biggest sweetheart I have ever met. I love her to death, because she's always happy all the time, and tries to cheer everyone up, and keep everyone happy.

Not sure what else to say at this point, but I'm pretty much tired, and my cousins are hanging all over me.

I think I'll go color some more with Erae, and draw a few pictures of him. I think he's a fairly good sport at keeping still, but....

*sigh*

I'm curious; I wonder how Erae will think of all this when he grows up?

June 17th, 2004, @ 10:30 pm, Thursday Evening

Oh my, this was really unexpected! Erae, my skunk plush, actually became REAL. I was so happy, and I went in to the shop to show him off, and found that a few others had theirs become real too! It was so awesome.

Unfortunately, I had to leave quickly, unable to converse with very many people. Erae and I spend a lot of time together, and I can't wait to see him grow up and get bigger. After I left the shop, I had more time than I thought, so I spent the remaining time before I went job hunting brushing Erae's fur, and drawing a head sketch of him - which he looks absolutely darling in.

After the job hunting session, I traveled to the library and got quite a few books (including ones over the limit of 5, I'm such a bookworm), and came home with an armful of books, picking one out randomly and reading it to Erae aloud while he peered at the words over my shoulder. It seems his favorite spot is on my shoulders, as he doesn't often fall off there.

I'm tempted to teach him the alphabet, but it will be a little more than hard to do that since he can't speak. =x

June 20th, 2004 @ 6:00pm, Sunday Evening

It has become... much too hot here for my liking, or for Erae's. We both are basically laying back, lounging around with nothing to do - it's way too hot to do anything, and our brains are pretty much mush. If it was much cooler, I'd be happy to play DDR, but in weather like this you're more than likely to kill yourself.

Out of my stack of books, Erae accidentally knocked over the stack, seeing a book with a dragon and a boy on the front, and it instantly caught his attention. I glanced at it, and asked him, "A Sci Fi book?", to which he seemed to grin at, nudging the book to me.

"You want me to read it to you?" I asked him, picking up the book and opening to the first page, reading the title to him after he nodded. Dragon and Thief was the title, which instantly reminded me of Locke, from Final Fantasy 6. I have to admit, I had been playing that a lot as well, which seems to rub off on Erae, in a sense. I suppose my fangirlism about Final Fantasy 6 is kind of contagious, but I point out that it has a great storyline, and awesome character designs, as well as damn good character histories.

In truth, there are very few science fiction books that I really enjoy, but Erae seems to get into the Science Fiction books, wheras I get more into the Fantasy types, not really understanding the machinery and whatnot of Science Fiction lore, if one would call it that.

In Final Fantasy, we come together, and love the story - it's both science fiction AND fantasy.

Erae seems delighted that I read to him all the time; I think that he actually learns a few words, and is understanding them more than he did before, though I'm not sure if he can take them into his own context yet.

Watch out, though. I think Erae may become a bookworm just like me. Haha!

Augh, I'm so sick of being cooped up in the house. It's so hot! Nothing to do, and so bored. Erae's laying in front of the fan. That seems to be the only place he wants to be.

Soooo hot.

June 23rd, 2004 @ 11:16pm, Wednesday Night

Got back from making pizza a while ago, and Erae got a few extra breadsticks that I filched for him. They were a little hard, but still pretty soft, and he gobbled them up in a hurry. Since it had been so hot, we both had lost our appetites, but today it seemed pretty cool to us. I suppose that's because we had both been in the house with all the fans going (before I went to work) and it was really cool in there, but really hot outside. Shapeshifters sunburn easily, and I personally like being a night owl more than a day lark.

Erae's gotten used to the staying-up-late-sleeping-in-'til-noon routine pretty well, though I've been trying to become a day lark because of my grandmother's disapproval at sleeping in. No such luck - I'm a definite night owl.

Erae and I have been playing many hours of Final Fantasy 6, and I think the game really got to Erae, because it made us both cry. T__T; It's such a deep story.

Rahahah, we'd better get to bed before my grandmother catches us up. It won't be a pretty sight if she catches us, but at least I have an excuse. People outside this late at night cussing and swearing woke me up, and I did not appreciate that, nor did Erae. He wanted to go back to sleep, but was getting a small bit annoyed at the drunken people, and we ended up reading a little more of the book The Bone Doll's Twin. His reading seems to be getting better, because he's following along with the story more than he did before, but still doesn't understand quite a few of the words. I think he's trying to please me.

Whoops, there's noise in the hallway! Better scramble to bed.

July 4th, 2004 @ 8:46am, Sunday Morning

Huzzah! Haven't had much of a chance to go online much, but Erae and I are having a blast together. Hehee, we've been reading a lot more now, and I've succeeded in teaching Erae the whole alphabet, though he's still stuck on a few letters. We're working it out to make it perfect. heart

We go through books like mad. I just finished The Bone Doll's Twin, and Erae and I were very disappointed to find out that it was a series as it left off at a cliffhanger, and I went to order it as a surprise for him. I'm not sure when it will arrive, but I can't wait. I also ordered a few other books for him, as well as the Crown Duel series. It reminds me of castle manners, and I'm tempted to teach a little to him.

I'm not sure if that's a good idea or not - he might think he's a prince. o_o Or something. Ah well. XD He sure has the mannerism for it.

Besides that, we've been 'playing' DDR again, though not on the actual mat, as I don't have the game system anymore. As soon as we both hear techno beats, we immediately practice the steps in our heads, getting strange looks from the family. It's rather amusing, but in this, Erae doesn't care what the others think of him - he's having fun in the moment. But as soon as he realizes people are staring, he stops, wondering if it's okay - or if they even like him doing it. I hope to cure him of that soon.

Erae absolutely loved the necklace Iris dropped off the other day - we were out, and I found an envelope on the desk with a little item in it, and showed it to him. He was very happy to recieve it, and hasn't taken it off since.

I've been spending all of my time with him, and he seems much more than happy, because he loves my company. Most do, but I can't ever figure out why. xd

The days seem to pass by more quickly than I can count them. I can't keep track of them, but I do know of what we've done the past days. I continue to brush Erae's fur, and pamper him, though we've both stayed away from the perfumes. Neither of us like the smell of it - it's too strong, even in little dabs.

Aside from that, I've been trying to get Erae to practice his Shadow Manipulation, but with no success. I think he hasn't been in the mood, somewhat. I did want to practice swordsmanship with him to practice his Endurance, though. Hopefully I can get a couple of practice swords for him and myself later, though I'm not sure how he will hold his. o_o We'll just have to work on that.

Yesterday in the shop, he met Anastasia, the Chameleon. He seemed to take on quickly to her, and flatter her, too, as she turned a bright yellow color when they touched each other's paws. He then looked like he was looking for something to do, and spotted the book that ArFaen was holding, silently asking Anastasia if he could read it with her. Well, she clambered up and retrieved it just like that, and both of them sitting on the floor reading it was just so cute..!

July 5th, 2004 @ 10:46 pm, Monday Evening

Erae and I had a royal blast on the Fourth of July, watching - and participating - in the events. I stayed out of most of the events, because I was taking pictures of all of them, but Erae nearly laughed his head off, as some know how animals can laugh... I guess... o_o;;;

ANYWAY. There were wheelbarrow races, egg tosses, hula dancing, pie eating contests, pop drinking contests, and the last event was the tug of war. It was the biggest event, and everyone - I mean EVERYONE - stayed for it. Erae had a real kick out of it, and I joined along too just to show him how it was done. Our side lost, but it was still worth it just to see Erae's reaction, because he was having a grand time. He found out that even the losers still won, because everyone got money for participating.

It was a grand day indeed, because of the fact that no one really lost. I got my photographs, and Erae couldn't wait to try them out for himself.

We earned lots of money, and I had some to begin with that I brought from home. When we got home, I practiced the egg toss with him, but he ended up with egg yolks all over his coat. sweatdrop He still enjoyed it though, and liked the taste of them. Yuck. :p

Erae's been a real sweetheart through and through. We practiced reading again, and he seems to be catching on more words, though can't read them himself, as he can't talk yet.

Hopefully, when he grows again, we'll be able to conquer that.
