It was a surprisingly cool night, perhaps hinting of the rainy season which was soon to be upon them. But it was quiet, and even in his element the vibrantly colored male felt wayward. It would have been nice to speak with Phib or Améh- but since his last meeting with them, they’d apparently shipped off to places unknown. Usually it didn’t bother him- it wasn’t like he hung around too closely. But all the time alone was starting to both agitate him and make him restless.
He was a joker and a cad- he knew that. How much of it was really him was hard to tell, but he was aware of himself enough to realize most people didn’t take him seriously. That had always been what he had wanted, hadn’t it? But with a discontented sigh, the bright leopard docked his ears and adjusted his shoulders.
There was a distinct lack of women around too. Nothing frustrated him more then that. Maybe they had learned to avoid him. Vaguely- he remembered that wild dog who had caught him in a lie. He hadn’t cared at the time; but when he was quiet, he cared. Smug thing. If only he knew the kinds of great adventures one Jaden had!
He puffed, and rose his paw, glancing at the wound that had no mostly healed. He was pleased for that at least, and nursed it quietly. Night air was circulating about, and he used the moment to look around. There were mountains in the distance- but past that, everything was in shadow. Perhaps he was just hungry. And with a haphazard yawn, the large male moved into the direction of a tree. He could do with some eggs.

The tree, however, was occupied by a different sort of resident. A black leopard was stretched out among the upper branches, her thin, lanky body pressed against the bark as comfortably as if she was laying on the ground. Her bright orange eyes were open and shown like fireflies in the night. It was a new moon that night. That required one to be awake. For if one slept the shadow spirit who had gained strength enough fo cover the moon could drown you and not allow you to ever awake again.
So the silky black leopardess was awake, if not completely alert. When Jaden began to come near her tree she saw him. He was hard to distinguish in the dark of the night, so with a delicate claw she made some runes on the branch before her to ward against wandering night spirits. Yet his breathing and the sounds of his footsteps assured her he was not one-but it never hurt to be careful. Spirits were tricky things.
"Evening," She rumbled in a purr, addressing him directly.

He approached the tree with slow even steps, unaware of the female above him. Had he known- he would have wondered perhaps how many females went beyond his notice any given day. That, was a tragedy. Even her claws were silent as she engraved wardings against the dark realm- but when she spoke, she got his full attention.
The voice was low, and at first he could only see her eyes. It’d been a long while since he’d seen a lady leopard- and at once, a deep smile graced his angular face. With a low purr he approached, curling his tail around the tree as he moved to the side she was at.
“Well! Good evening!” He thrummed, and stopped his moving. Brilliant orange eyes- he felt transfixed. “Any eggs up there darling?” He peeled. Then paused. Sometimes his amiable nature did not take so well. He supposed he couldn't blame them. People were a tricky sort, nowadays. Smiling when they really meant daggers. “Ah- no harm though, I mean. I’m Jaden.”

As he came to attempt to perch nearby she was able to get a better eyeful-the one she spoke to was a male leopard. And his coat was quite the sight. Even in the dark she could tell it was a brilliant crimson hue. Red was a very attractive color and even the spirits knew this-that was why it was a more daring color to have. For while it was easy to attract good spirits-and perhaps mortal women- it could just as easily gain the attention of an evil spirit.
She chuckled lightly as his words, her voice a rich alto. Her orange eyes showed clear amusement, but it was good natured. It didn't show she thought him to be anything less then he was. "No, I'm afraid this tree is clear of nests," She murmured, leaning closer to the woodwork and stretching out her long black tail. "I am called Nuhusi."

“Ah,” Jaden lamented, but his face did not seem to damper. “Well, it’s of no loss. I seem to have found something better then forgotten eggs.” The leopard pooled, and having rubbed himself thoroughly against the tree, he allowed himself to spill down and peer at her from an upside down position in the grass. His eyes were adjusting now to the shapes of the leaves- and he could make out her figure just crested above the boughs of the tree. It really had been far too long since he’d seen one of his own.
“My name is Jaden,” He explained, stressing the H sound of his name. Her tail stretched out, and he watched it as thought transfixed. “It is very nice to meet you, Nuhusi.”
How was it that all females ended up with such lovely names?

"That is," she mused in a slightly teasing voice, "The second time you have told me what you are called." She peered down at him, one white tipped paw smoothed out silkily under her chin. This male sure was interesting. "It is a pleasure to meet you as well," she said with a dark purr that seemed to fit the night. She did tilt eher head slightly, though, her bright eyes still intently fixed upon him, "But am I really better then eggs, mm? I would hope I'm not quite as edible."

Oh, drat. Jaden was slightly taking aback by his apparent amnesia, and for a moment he docked his ears in embarrassment. But he did not allow his flustering to continue. A cool smile flooded across his face as he attempted to shake away his folly. “Ah, dear!” He finally replied. “Sometimes your struck and you introduce yourself twice. I can’t think straight.” He purred, and rose himself back up. This time, he pressed his chin against the wood.
Her eyes- he could not break away from them. “It’s your fault though, really. With eyes like that.” He swayed. “Hard to look away.”
Jaden listened to her speak again, the red crown of his head pulsing as he slowly worked thought. “Maybe not as edible as eggs but... certainly more delicious looking.”

My, my, my, this was interesting. Perhaps, since the shadow spirit dominated the night, another spirit had sent her a little something to keep her occupied. She certainly was grateful if that was the case. Perhaps she would have to make a little offering in the morning. She smiled smoothly, her expression one only an adult woman could muster. "Oh? Is that so? I think I am lucky. I think I prefer to have your attention resting on me rather then...something else." Again her voice was deep and slick like sap. She felt her whiskers lift slightly as she smiled, "And I do hope I am meerly so in appearance...for I have much better talents then...being eaten."

A slight swell flushed across Jaden’s chest and back. After so many hits and misses, he’d almost forgotten what it felt like to have his attentions reciprocated. But he didn’t let the surprise of it linger. So she was game? Perhaps she was just being tricky, but then again- that was most attractive as well. Considering this was the first female of his own he’d seen in some while, he chalked it up to leopards obviously being the more superior species when it came to sly gestures and ardorous conversations.
“Think you are lucky? I’ll have to try to make that knowledge.” He purred. “Ah! It wouldn’t cross my mind to eat you. But in case I might- what sort of talents might the lady have to offer?” He preened.

It had been a long time, in all honesty, since she had been able to have a conversation such as this. She normally spent most of her days in solitude, not by choice but because most founds her ways a little out of the ordinary. It was nice not to feel shunned for a bit, even if she'd never give up her beliefs for that feeling. Besides, this leopard was quite the looker. She found flirting with him to be...quite a pleasant prospect. Her lips still held her sly, foxy smile as she watched him, never taking her bright eyes from his being, "Well...I do suppose I could tell you. But wouldn't it be more fun to..." her voice rumbled into a low purr, "...leave it to your imagination?" Her tail began to curl and uncurl as it hang down from the branch she perched on, almost forming a rhythm with her thrums.

“Oh-“ Jaden started, pressing against the tree. “I have no imagination! Truly, it’s quite tragic.” The male lamented, and eager thrum in his throat. He had a feeling this might be one of those meetings he would not, in fact, regret.
He backed himself up, and curled into a crouch. Ah! It would never due on the ground. He hopped upwards and pulled himself onto a branch, which began to shake as the large male’s weight was placed upon it. He hesitated a moment, watching the sways of the branch as it adjusted to him, before sauntering closer. She was still above him, but he liked that he could see her eyes better.

Even as the tree moved from his sudden leap she remained perched easily as if she were a part of the tree itself. She didn't have to shift her weight nor bend down nearer to stay put. Her long tail did curl a little outwards, however, in a small effort to keep balance with the abrupt sway. But the action wasn't enough to distract her from their "conversation". "Is that so...?" She said mournfully, pulling her brilliant orange eyes away in disinterest, "I don't care for men without one." It was hard to tell if she was serious or still teasing him.

Jaden pouted, and curled his tail slowly. Of course he had an imagination- it was rather active at the moment! But- he supposed he had walked into that one. With a thrum he rolled, just barely keeping himself aloft on the branch as he rested on his spine. It shook, a bit wary of his weight. “Oh- but I have so many other qualities.” He quirked. “And perhaps- I am simply curious as to what your imagination might be taking you. It would be terrible for it to leave me behind, I think.”

"Even if I were to tell you...or better yet, show you..." There was a very seductive thrum stressing the word show as she purred, "I don't believe you could keep up, hun." She eyed him with amusement, her orange eyes twinkling with mirth and mischief. This was definately more of an...adult conversation. But lucky for them, no one else was around. At least, lucky for Nuhusi. She was having quite a bit of fun with this...interesting male.

Jaden purred and swayed to the side, reclining on a suspiciously unstable branch. “Couldn’t keep up? Why- you’d be surprised just how traveled I am my dear.” He spoke cooly, and arched his brow. “I’d be a little more interested if you can keep up with me. I might not have quite the imagination you have- but I assure you it gets very set in what it wants to do.” To this shifted his shoulders a bit. Her company, was officially, much better then running lines with Phib again. Perhaps now he’d have a far better story then any of his rogue panderings.
