Dusty paws made their trek, rustling the waves of green and gold grass in his wake. The journey had been long, though the dark lion showed no idication that it had worn him, at least not mentally. Though a meal and a good night's sleep would have been welcome.
Before him, looming ever closer, his blue eyes met the large rock formation that marked the center of the land of his birth. How the pridelands had changed since he'd last seen it so long ago, it had prospered and thrived into a place of peace and beauty.
Having no knowledge of events that had transpired, the dark lion wondered if Mufasa still reigned or if another had taken his place.

-The golden lioness, the spitting image of the great king who had sired her, sit softly among the lower rocks of the royal landmark, auburn tail tuft curled about her toes, as her red eyes searched for nothing in the vast savvanah.
It was still hard for her.. all that socialization.. So often she found herself coming off to hide for a bit at a time. To rest in the familiarity of being alone, and hide within the daydreams of her childhood.
The day had been a lazy one so far, and her mind drifted to the thought of her blood, out there in the golden savvanahs. How were her children? The golden little twins Mani and Zuri?
She was sure they were fine.. Tefu was a wonderful lion.. But still.. with the recent loss, her eyes begged to see their familiar pelts. How big were they now? Perhaps she'd look today... Seek them out in secret and steal a peek.-

He continued his journey, the image of pride rock looming closer with every step. He only paused for a moment, long enough to search the horizon with brilliant blue eyes, his ears taking in the sounds, his nose the scents of the land as if searching for something or someone.
As he drew closer to the rock, his eyes settled on a hint of a gold, a gold that he had only seen briefly in his cubhood, but a gold that he could never forget. Perhaps it was the king he sought, but as the figure grew in his vission it became clear that it was not Mufasa, but a lioness who bore his pelt, perhaps she was the king's daughter.
As he reached the base of the rock, the dark lion paused, his eyes resting on golden lioness, his head briefly bowed in respect. It would have been presumptious to approach further without invitation.

-While she certainly wasn't a hunteress or anything even remotely similar, the lion's approach caught her attention. His dark and unique pelt standing out from the savvanah grasses. Eye's lifting softly, she watched as he approached and then abruptly stopped at the base of the rocks.
She didn't know him.. but that didn't mean that he wasn't part of the pride. But when he didn't move, she finally lifted her voice, offering politely.- "Is.. there something I can help you with?"

The lion's head lowered briefly in a respectful bow to the golden lioness. For a moment he was silent, blue eyes meeting hers, reading her expression and her posture. Was that a trace of sorrow he saw?
"My name is Bushido, I have come to see the ruler of these lands."
He had elected to speak generally for now, least he offend by speaking the name of a ruler who may have been displaced since he had last seen the pridelands.

-Ahh... so he was new then. She doubted that any member remained within the lands that hadn't yet heard the news. Shifting a little uncomfortably she roused the hints of a smile upon her maw.- "It seems luck is with you Bushido. I'm the one you're looking for."
-She debated standing, finding herself growing increasingly uncomfortable perched so high above him. But finally she lay instead, seeming to drip over the edge of the rock as she tried to figure out his intent.- "What is it that I can help you with?"

It seemed he had chosen wisely in his words, for indeed there was a new ruler. He wondered what had changed and how this golden lioness who shared the pelt of the previous king had come to power. But he knew better than to inquire about such a subject, whether it be offensive or a painful memory. If the lioness wished him to know she would speak of it on her own.
"I wish to return to my home and serve as an honorable member of the pride."
He gave another small bow, his tail flicking lightly against some insect that flew nearby.

-Kami eyed the stranger curiously, not an attempt to be rude really.. simply taking in his sight, trying to figure out his age... though she found herself unable to do so in the end. It was so varible from what she'd seen in her little bit of traveling.
But finally her words perked, making her intrest known.- "You're from here? Born here perhaps?"
-Why did you go? Where did you go? The curiousities tug on her mind softly, but she kept them at bay for now. In the future such questions would probably become part of the process in which she learned about each lion and lioness that stepped within the lands. But for today she was tired of sad stories.. and was worried that such a question might bring forth just that.
Smiling softly, she gave a wide nod.- "Welcome home then. You are free to stay, and to join the pride. I'm glad you came back."

His head lowered in a nod, a silent answer to her question. For brief time he did not speak, perhaps choosing his words as much as he was assessing the situation and the expressions of the golden lioness.
She had not pried into his past further than he had offered, had asked nothing beyond a simple question before accepting him as an experienced leader would have, though he lost no respect for her because of it. Judging by her expression he was certain it was not due to disinterest. Perhaps she was being polite, or perhaps something must have happened recently and she was not prepared to hear such stories.
"Yes, though I have not seen the lands since my cubhood. I am happy to see that it has thrived so since then."
A respectful bow to show his gratitude.
"I thank you, it is good to be home."

-Her smile grew just a little, the auburn tuft of her tail flicking gently.- "My father did a very good job of letting the pride grow and flourish. After all my traveling, it's still my favorite of all places."
-Eyes slipping from him for a moment she looked outward towards the savannah.- "I don't know how long it's been since you've been here, but it seems that more and more cubs fill these lands. And more travelers find a home here then I can ever recall in the past. Most is probably the same as you remember? But there is life creeping about whereever one looks."
-It seemed she was babbling now, and she continued on softly, whether he wanted to hear or not.- "Soon enough there will be new duties and tasks for members of the pride who are so inclined. I've been thinking it couldn't hurt to expand the number of nannies to match the growing numbers of cubs. And perhaps inlist some scouts to keep care of the borders and watch over the pride."

The slightest hints of a smile tugged at the lion's maw, faint though it may have been it was genuine.
"It is indeed quite an accomplishment to form such a prosperous pride of so many members, his pride and honor fill this land."
His head lowered as she spoke of the land before he had left. Of course she could not have remembered it as he had last seen it, he was sure Mufasa had had no children at the time. The lioness had not seen the land as he had nor experienced the darkness of the two kings before.
"I'm afraid it was not so magnificent when I last saw it, darkness touches even the most peaceful of lands."
Looking up again, blue eyes searched the lioness' expression, wondering what questions she had and if she would ask them.
"I would be happy to serve in whatever way you require, though perhaps I would be best suited as a hunter or scout"
Bushido had never been around cubs, watching over them would have been better suited to someone who knew of their tendencies and their needs.

-Ahhhh, so he was quite a bit older then her? Her ear's perked softly with intrest at the tiny tidbit he'd offered. But she didn't push it any further then that. If he was joining the pride, that meant plenty of time in the future to talk. To ask questions of curiousity without him feeling pressed to answer simply for his approval into the pride.
Shifting gently, she let her tail curl around her, pleasant musing touching the air.- "I will keep that in mind then, when the time comes."
"In the meantime.. do you recall the way about mostly? Or will you be in need of a tour while you search for where in the lands you'd like to settle?"

Though he did not speak it, the dark lion was grateful she had not inquired further into his past, though he would have answered had she asked. There would come a day that he would answer those unasked questions that she must have had, as the leader she had the right to know; but something told him that this was not the time for such a story.
"The land may have changed, but I believe I can find my way. The best way to learn is to explore."
Indeed he had explored much of the lands in his brief time there as a cub, always eager to learn and find his own way. And though that had been years ago, he was certain he remembered at least the landmarks. And if not, well he'd just relearn it.

-Nodding softly in agreement, she settled once more comfortably upon her perch, smiling softly at the respectful gesture. He didn't have anymore to say.. she didn't think..
But what if he did and she was simply taking shyness for politeness.... Well.. she'd just seem rude then she guessed. But oh well.. hopefully he wouldn't hold it against her.- "That's very true. I won't hold you any longer then. Hopefully I will see you about the savannah though."

"I am sure we will, perhaps there will be more to speak of then."
There was no disrespect in his voice, no hint that he held anything but respect for her. Indeed ruling a pride was no easy task, something that he believed she would do with honor as the king had before.
"I thank you again."
Bowing his head in a respectful farewell, the lion turned, leaving the queen as she had been before. For now he would reacquaint himself with the lands of his home, and perhaps meet with some of his new pridemates. After all he had a lot of catching up to do, and a past to make up for.
