Sterlingshire:
A small, peaceful town for the most part, though even this small corner of the world has had it's share of trouble as the new ways conflict with the old. A ways from the coast, and small, she has yet to be raided by the Viking Invaders, but enough stories have drifted inward to make the threat hang like an looming cloud, and perhaps more than one soul worries that one of the towering Vikings may yet break through the doors to steal and defile.

Bran, a hunter and fur trapper who called Sterlingshire his home, sat on the edge of a watering trough near the inn at what was roughly the center of town. Too small for fountains or other such elaborate ornamentation, they had nothing more elaborate than a stone well to mark things. The well was the common source for water for everyone who lived close to town, where it was safest, those further out had to do far more of their own defences against wolves, vikings, and other predators like bandits, but it was a risk they took. Still the sturdy wooden walls of Sterlingshire would hold all of them, roughly, if they were attacked, even the outsiders. He had no skins with him now, now was not the time or place to trade them. That would be later, when he'd amassed rich thick pelts over the winter to sell in the cities and larger towns, Good trade for him, and good for those who did business him, because it brought gold and new trade items back.

Baird shifted the bit of grass from one side of his mouth to the other as he made his way down the street. A dull expression on his freckled face, almost as if he'd just roused himself from a nap though anyone who knew the adventurous youth would know better. He was lost in his own little world of riding out and fighting the vikings alongside his father. His mother cooked at home, telling him stories about how she and him met, not his favorate ones in the least, and of how he used to work for the guard, catching bandits and keeping watch along the boarders. Those were the fancies Baird often lost himself in.

He was out fighting, his father, a powerful man. Thick in build and tall in stature, strong with a sword and unrivaled on horseback. Baird, unfortunately, had more of his mother's height than anything though he was showing good build in his shoulders and chest.

In more recent days he had found a 'playmate' in Bran, though his mother strongly urged him to think of him rather as an apprentace in his trade. A well-known hunter, well enough to make his way in pelts and skins.

Baird caught sight of the man near the inn and grinned. He had a switch for a playsword that he'd carried around all morning, not that a boy of his age should be distracting himself with such games anymore. There was no hope in sneaking up behind the hunter though he would be amused if he managed to poke the man's back without his knowing, "Deer and wolves don't trot through town last I checked. What're you waitin' for?"

Sterlingshire. It had been long since Aron had last set foot in the town. Ever since Falcon's disappearance, he had travelled little. It had taken him long enough to readjust to life off of horseback. Granted, it was easier to hunt in denser parts of the forests, but still, it didn't quite feel the same. Aron looked around, half wondering why he had woken that morning with an urge to walk the many miles to the town. It had simply been one of those gut feelings. They didn't come often for him, and when they did, he had long since learned to trust them.

Tucking his dagger away and hoisting the bow and half full quiver of arrows higher up onto his shoulder, Aron made his way forward into the town. He would most probably spend the day there, and he fingered the few coins he had brought just in case, the jingling masked by the noise of the other people and the folds of his clothes. He had made the coins the last time he had been in Sterlingshire to sell some extra pelts he had acquired from a bountiful hunt the previous day, and he had found little use for them then. He didn't expect to spend them for much other than food today, and perhaps some useless trinket for his aunt.

The dogs beside him were beginning to whine, as they always did, when he took them to town. They were used to life on the wide plains and hills that rolled on forever, the quiet of midday. They didn't like the cramped streets of Sterlingshire any more than Aron himself did, but unlike him, they made a fuss about it. They looked about curiously, heads whipping up to glance warily at each stranger before hurrying to catch Aron's lead on them. "Quiet, Gimli. Sam." He said stonily as the lanky dog emitted a low growl from his throat. He had obviously never seen a donkey before. Aron scowled inwardly. Perhaps it would have been smarter to leave them behind.

Gimli snarled. Of the two dogs, he was by far the more agressive, and as Sam whined and pressed himself against Aron's leg, Gimli wheeled to leave. Aron grabbed the dog's foreleg. "Hey!" He snapped, pulling him back.

Then he looked up, to murmurs and glances at a girl driving a trap and a large Clydesdale. His brow furrowed into a frown. "That ain't nice..." He murmured, rubbing Sam's ears. Straightening, he made his way over to the scene. So far as he could tel, there was nothing wrong with the girl.

Gimli's bell-like bass tones rang out as he caught sight of the dog in front of him, accompanying the girl Aron had heard people call cursed. The black-blanketed shepherd made as if to plunge forward, but a sharp reminder from Aron seemed to change his mind. His tail wagged briefly as he looked up adoringly at his master, but the wag vanished the moment his attention turned back to the strange dog.

Gimli's reaction to the dog made Aron hesitate somewhat. Sam and Gimli were inseperable, and they got along well enough with his uncle's shepherd, so Aron himself had little experience at ending a dog fight. But the name-calling aimed at the girl had piqued his interest, and he decided against turning away. "Quiet, Gimli." Aron told the dog, lengthening his strides. "Uh, 'scuse!"

Aron scowled. So much for generosity. He was about to turn and leave things at that when he words stopped him. "In fact, no, I was not about to call you cursed and ridicule you," He snapped. "I was just going to see if you were okay after what the people did, but I guess you and your dog are better off on your own!" He finished scornfully. It was one of the rare times when more than just a few words came past his lips, and it was also one of those few times when he showed any genuine emotion. More than anything, he wanted to set Gimli loose on the girl and her dog, and he could feel the lanky shepherd picking up on his tension. But the mild-mannered Sam bumped Aron's clenched fist with his soft muzzle, and he remembered to keep his anger in check. Perhaps he had overreacted. The girl didn't know him. She didn't know that few things could catch his interest, and she had no way of knowing what his intentions were. Still. It didn't matter to him that she may have been shunned and ridiculed for too long. He was there to help, and if she didn't want it, he could just leave her be.

Nita gave a soft sigh as she turnd round and went after Aron, she softly poked him on the back and said''I'm sorry,I shouldnt of snaped at you..its just..''Nita's voice sounded like when she talked to her dog, kind, soft and gentily''I'm sorry..''Nita turnd round walking back to the clysdale,The paint horse flung his mane in the hair trying to get the hai out of his eye,but had no luck in doing so,Morello gave a whinny to Aron.Nita laughed then smiled kissing Morello gentily on the muzzle''Good boy..''The people started at her glaring and scowling,Nita just ignored them and continued patting Morello, the grey hound jumped up onto the Trap sitting there looking at Nita

Aron shrugged less than apologetically. So she had her problems, so did she, and neither one should have taken it out on the other. But what was done was done, and they were even, so he found to reason for an apology from either side. Wordlessly, he reached out to the big draft horse, giving him a gentle pat as his gaze landed on the greyhound. He touched Gimli's head softly as the lanky dog tensed at the other dog's sudden movement. "Easy. Dog'll run you into the ground if'n you chase it." He told Gimli. He knelt by the dog, caressing his head as he watched Sam placing his forepaws onto the trap and gingerly sniffing at the greyhound. He looked up at Nita, still holding on to Gimli. "Nice lookin dog." He said, ignoring the people milling around them.

Nita nodded as she slowly rubed her hand on Morellos muzzle''Thanks Nuka is part of family..''Nita thought of her farm animals aas family nothing ells''I like your dogs too..''Nita pulled off a leather blanket off the trap reviling a set of bow and arrows''..Yes I hunt and I make bows aswell as arrows''Nita rubed her face slightly sighing''I'm surprised you dont mind talking to me,I mean its just I have a reputation...a bad one..''Nita coverd the trap again looking back to Nuka she smiled patting him again''Nuka helps me get rabbits and other animals, since hes a fast dog he chases them down for me..''Nita pulled out the only cloth thing she had witch was a hair tie her moter made when Nita was only little,Nita braided her hair back into a loose braid.

Aron leaned against the Clydesdale's leg gently, a rather meaningless smile flickering across his face and disappearing again. "I don't really know you," He said. It was simple enough. He didn't know about her reputation. He didn't know why people called her cursed, and so he didn't give a rat's behind about what they thought. He had been like that all his life, and he saw no reason to change any time soon.

Thalion

"Neither do your chores do themselves in your absense. What are you doing boy? The day's wasting." He huffed.Baird wasn't his apprentice, which meant he had just as much responsibility as the rest of his family into keeping things running. He turned a blind eye on Nita, though he could hear the girls breif bemoaning of her fate. Villagers were fond of finding a reason to explain why things were bad, though he thought it was more because the old gods and the new Church God didn't get along terribly well. If some snip of a whimpering girl was caught up in it, he reasoned it was only because she was following one or the other of them. Foolish....getting caught up in such things was bound to bring trouble, like arguing with the priest, which he tended to do every so often. Father Gabriel seemed to be a good man, in fact he was overall quite a kind soul, though many weren't entirely as sure yet about the Church God as the little priest would have wished they were.
"Or have you come looking to apprentice?" He demands, continuing, looking back over his shoulder at Baird. "Although knowing you...I'm thinking you're shirking on your chores to fight dragons in the market place and watch what people buy. If you're so very interested in the market, Dragon slayer, perhaps you should apprentice to a merchant." He teased. "Grow up to be rich and comfortably fat, and dress in fancy clothing. Maybe then you could buy and sell my skins for me."

((GM Request: Oh, for the sake of everyone, please consider refraining from taking over the feelings of the village on the whole. If you'd like your character to be shunned by NPC's and the like, I or Thalion can RP them, but also remember that all of are the citizens of Sterlingshire, and in a certain light it's not entirely different from telling people how they feel about your character.
--Thanks))

The boy quirked the corner of his lips at the questions, his eyes narrowing in on the man playfully. "Yeah, a good hunter should watch people in the market now and then you know, see what they want and how much they're buying it for. I saw someone sell an old wolf hide for way more than they should have. The merchant was clever with his words. It's a good skill for anyone you know."

He glanced back to the lady he'd appropreately nicknamed in his own mind as the village fool, resting his switch on a shoulder and tapping it lightly against the side of his neck. He himself kept thoughts of curses and posession to his little daydreams where he'd be found smacking sticks against trees in a game of dragon slaying or the fall of that week's dark lord.

"I want you to teach me how to hunt, I can always do chores when it rains out or on real cold days when ma won't let me outside. If I can bring back dinner one night she'd light up!" He grinned up to the hunter, "And if you show me I bet she'll invite you over for dinner too. She cooks real good."
