The tiny object wriggled beneath his hesitant grasp and once again the dark male was reminded that the thing had not died overnight like it should have. It had gone days without Keira- how could it still be alive? It made him nervous. He could abandon it, but something in him was too worked up over it to drop the child for more then a few minutes. He left her, and then he came back. He wanted her to just stop moving- but she never did, and now he realized he was soon to be cursed with the strong will of a daughter. He probably should not have been so surprised. She was Hrothmund blood, wasn’t she?

Damn the father. It was his fault he couldn’t just drop the kid. Ironic- how many of his own children had he knowingly lead to the grave? But for some reason knowing this was another one of The Family kept him from doing it. Like secretly, the old king’s shadow was upon him- just waiting for him to dare do such a thing.

But he was a man. He would not raise a child. Let alone a cripple. A cripple! From his loins! It was impossible and it drove him mad. Had Phib ever had a cripple? Fah. He had one boy with a tawny coat, hardly a curse. And Keira- that b***h. He could still see her in his mind’s eye, dropping the barely dry pup in front of him. “Take it.” She had said coldly. “This is the second litter that has been ruined. I can bear the shame of you, but not of your blood.” The whore. Perhaps it was her fault.

It was his fault.

Now he had a kid that he couldn’t possibly raise, and like a coward, he ran. First to his sister- but she was still recovering from Carius. How could he ask her to take such a child? And her boy- her boy couldn’t even figure out what he was asking! The idiot. And so, the now thin black male had found himself at his wits end, and sneaking onto his younger brother’s territory.

He had heard of Phib’s exodus- although at the time he had been away. He still couldn’t understand what the whole issue with North pack had been; but the rumor was that witches had done it. It sounded like nonsense. But he was still cautious as he entered the lands. They smelt foreign and salty, and the made him swallow thickly.

To find his brother- that would be a different ordeal.

She wriggled in the grasp of something hot around her middle. It was tight and uncomfortable, so she wriggled, she couldn't see. Not knowing if her eyes were opened or closed. It was colder here, things were bouncing, she couldn't tell where she was, she squeaked out loud. Her blind blue eyes searching the darkness for some light.

Tiny, very tiny, a runt, a disgrace to the thing that carried her, what was the thing anyway? It made her bounce and wriggle, had something wrapped around her, she squeaked again and whimpered slightly. She didn't like this. Where was she? An unfamiliar scent touched her tender nose and she whimpered again, cried, thwacked at her nose with her paws to tyr adn make it go away but it didn't.

She wanted to see where she was!

Why was this happening? Before she was very warm, attempting to snuggle up against something that sometimes pulled away and left her cold. She shivered in the grasp of the thing, and continued to be bounced every now and then. She tried to map out things with sounds, but it only created a blob in her mind.

She whimpered again.

It was the only thing she knew how to do.

She couldn't even speak yet.

Why did it keep whimpering? Why wasn’t it dead? It was driving him mad. He tightened his grip on the child and began to run headlong into the woods. Perhaps he would drop her, and keep running. But he couldn’t. She was just a girlchild, and he couldn’t. The idea that he didn’t have the courage to end it made him furious. And the anger rose in a circle.

He was furious that he had no place else to turn to except his brother. There had been a time when he had sworn to hate him forever. But he had already faced the fact that Phib was not only stronger and smarter then him- but he had been Father’s favorite. And that stung like nothing else.

At least he won out on Phib in the good looks category.

But it wasn’t fair how father had shown interest in him only when he was angry with his favorite son. He had stuck by his father no matter what cruel things he said or did! But the moment Phib came home, Hrothmund had embraced him like the prodical son. And although he could forgive Phib for being stronger and smarter, he could never forgive him for his father’s love.

Infuriating!

And then- his scent fell upon his nose with bitter clarity. Kahj jerked to a stop, compulsatorily grabbing the child tighter so she wouldn’t swing. But the fact he had infuriated him more.

The black wolf was standing on the outcrested rocks, and Kahj had to take a few steps back just to move. ******** hell, he looked like dad; Kahj bitterly noted. Was that why Hrothmund had loved him? Or had all the power just made him Hrothmund?

“Kahj-“ Phib spoke, and took a few slow steps down the rocks. “What the hell are you doing here?"

She felt the thing make a tighter grip around her middle, and she squeaked and whimpered. Curled her tiny tail around her. If she knew exactly how to cry she would've, she didn't like this game, or whatever this was. It wasn't very nice, she didn't like the way this thing was holding her.

Then it tightened again!

What was going on?

She whimpered and made soft howling noises, more like longer squeaks to try and tell the thing to let her go, set her down. Why was everything black still? Why wasn't there anything else besides the color black? Her ears were pressed flat against her skull, would this madness game ever stop?

Then she felt herself be hung in mid air, good, the ride was over and she wanted to get off. She tried to wriggle herself free but couldn't, so she whined softly again. A voice?! A voice! Was that other thing speaking a nice thing? Or was it a bad thing like the thing holding her?

Too many things to take in.

She wriggled again, trying to move her tiny body from the grip that held her tightly, it was a real pain in her side, literally. She wanted to be free, to try and walk, she had hobbled before and hit something, then lay next to a warm thing. But this carrying thing, it was bad, evil in fact.

She wanted to see who the voice belonged to.

Kahj took a hesitant step backwards, and hissed slowly. It came out muffled because of Noir’s fur, and he irritably dropped her down by his paws. But a second later he had picked her back up, and carried her shamelessly towards his brother and let her go again. He took a few nervous steps backwards, and rose his hackles. “Take her.”

“What?” Phib balked. “What is this nonsense Kahj? She’s yours-“

”I don’t want her.” Kahj bitterly snapped.

“Where’s her mother?” The black male irritably asked, and took a few stiff-legged steps towards him. Kahj scrunched himself up and twitched.

“Her mother has abandoned her. I have abandoned her. I don’t care what you do with her Phib, but I will not be responsible for her any longer.” He spat.

Phib bristled. “Are you out of your mind? She’s not mine. Stop being a b***h and take her. Your daughter-“

”You should talk!” Kahj hissed. “How many children did you raise?”

“I raised the one who’s mother abandoned him. The others had mothers, they never needed me.” He bit. “I was barely a pup when I took care of Thallen, don’t you dare bring that unearthed.”

Kahj snorted and nervous darted his eyes about. “Well- I’m not you. You’ve done it before, you can do it again. I want my paws clean of this!”

“You are a stupid coward. I will not take her- take her back Kahj.” Phib glowered.

“No!” Kahj half shrieked. “I am done with her! I will not raise something like that-“

”Like that?” Phib questioned irritably and looked towards the child. “A girl?”

“Not like that-“ Kahj snapped. “She’s blind. Your mate is blind isn’t she? It’s a perfect match then.”

She wriggled and squirmed and squeaked when she was dropped and squeaked again when she was picked up. Her eyes opened, blind to the world, she blinked, the blueish orbs trying to focus on the blackness that was before her eyes. She still couldn't see, didn't know where she was or who was who. The black pelted pup had been moved around too many times to know which way to go.

Talking maybe? Were those the noises she heard, back and forth, different tones, she flicked her ears and tried to settle on somewhere to go. She wobbled to try and stand on her legs, flopped over once or twice before she started to walk blindly, then she fell again after she stepped on a rock, thinking it was something else that was bigger.

She whimpered and curled up, not knowing where to go anymore. She was lost with her vision, she wished to see something else besides the black, she wanted to know if the world was anything but that flat black color.

Her small tail curled about her and she tried to curl into nothingness, become one with the black in her mind, why could she not see? This was so unfair, but truly, she didn't know what she was supposed to be seeing at all. She believed everyone saw this black, if she could see anyone.

Whimpering again, she wanted to be held, she was cold and hungry and afraid.

Kahj snorted bitterly, and stepped further away from the child. He liked it that way. Surely Hrothmund’s ghost would not come knocking for leaving his daughter with his favored son? If anything, the haunting was on Phib now. It was about time he lost some sleep over the father, Kahj thought bitterly. “I reject her. She is not my own.”

“You coward.” Phib snapped. “I will not take her. Grow up for once and do something that actually matters. Take the girl. Turn around.”

Kahj did turn around- but he didn’t take the girl. “Fate already said it.”

“Fate said nothing.” He bit. “I’m not going to burden my mate with your foolhardy progeny. You should have known better then to mate Keira.” The black wolf chided. Kiera! He hadn’t forgiven her himself. Such a foolish woman, abandoning her children and regretting it a breath later. But something told him that Kahj would never give his name honor enough to cause some regret in the lady.

“Well, you weren’t around.” Kahj muttered.

“Mind who is the older brother.” Phib snapped.

That brought a rise to Kahj, and he turned around with a wince. “Poor little brother! When did you ever need me? You seemed content to take whatever I had. Now I’m giving you something and you don’t want it!”

“It isn’t yours to give.”

“Then I throw it away! I throw it away!” Kahj strangled. This time, he whipped around.

“Don’t you dare Kahj-“ Phib blistered, a growl begining to bellow in his throat. But Kahj was already scrambling into a run. With a snap Phib took off after him, and in half surprise, caught him after just a few lengths. He grabbed onto the other male’s hackles and yanked him back, but a well timed roll had Kahj back on his feet again in moments. He danced away with a yelp.

Phib snorted and took off again after him, before stumbling short and taking note of the child left to herself.

Damnit.

Where had everyone gone? She wasn't quite sure. She whimpered and squeaked and squeaked and rose to her feet, trying to steady herself and take a few steps in some random direction. She as alone here now, it was cold, black everywhere, she couldn't see what was before her.

The black pup squeaked again, blue eyes blindly searching for somewhere to go, some scent to have her go in one direction, she bumped her head into the side of a tree and fell onto her back. And she whimpered and cried, pawing at her forehead. She rolled around for a few moments before getting on her paws again. Tilting her head in every which way to find somewhere to go.

She didn't know many words, how to say them, she could think them though, even if she didn't quite know what was labeled what for she couldn't see what others spoke of. "cold...mommy...." those two words she knew. She knew a mother gave warmth, something fuzzy to curl up against, cold was what she felt right now.

Wandering a bit she bumped into another thing, this one harder and she growled at it and took a step back stepping on a twig and she squeaked again and curled up in a ball helpless. She didn't know where to go. Those other who spoke went in some direction she couldn't follow.

Phib bristled in agitation and stomped back towards the child. What the hell was he supposed to do with this? He had every mind to go and chase down Kahj and skin him some. He’d always been a waste of time! In some ways- his incompetency was the main reason he’d become an alpha in the first place. He simply couldn’t stand the idea of an idiot king. Why he held such a grudge about their father, Phib had never understood. Hrothmund had eventually chosen Kahj, and he had nothing to show for it.

And now this child. And of Keira! How more worthless a couple could have been forged?

The black brute paced back and forth, slamming his paws against the earth. But now he mostly let out steam, whipping his tail about. He didn’t see a reason not to- he could already feel her coming.

Almost on cue, she slipped out from the woods, her small frail body an odd silver color in the night. Her ears alighted upwards, and she sniffed the air. “What is been going on, Phib?” She asked, although he was sure she already knew.

Phib grumbled something incomprehensible in reply, and she took leave to walking slowly towards the pup.

“Hello there-“ Amélie called with a gentle smile.

She was padding in a circle, bumping her head into the same tree two or three times. She whined and whimpered and sat back and curled her tiny tail around her. Why was everything so black? She cried and whined, "Mommy..." in a soft and fragile voice. She was scared and cold and alone.

The pup heard a voice and stood adn tried to turn around but her sense of balance was no great. She flopped to the ground and cried, tears coming from her lifeless eyes. The voice was calming though,a nd she shought it out, "Mommy..."

She hoped it was her mommy, she was scared, she wanted her daddy adn mommy. But she didn't know how to call to them, she didn't know many words. She didn't even know her own name, or if she had a name.

The nervous fear of the child fluttered against her head, and gently, she touched her snout to the small black pup. It was so unusual for her to feel large- but compared to the helpless child, even Amélie was a giant. Strange eyes, she felt- she could not see; even worse then she. This one had never seen in her life. The cause for Kahj’s abandonment? She knew he thought he was doing what was best for her. It saddened her to think that he thought so little of himself, and softly, she picked up the child.

“You do something with her.” Phib snapped. “I’m going to drag him back here.”

I think it may be best to leave it for the night. It’s late Phib, why chase after him?” She thought echoed, and moved back towards the bushes.

“I’m not going to tolerate him.” The old king bit. “He thinks he can just run by without explaining himself, dropping kids-“

I think he’ll be back sometime.” She soothed, and lightly wagged her tail. “Bother him up tomorrow. She's just a little thing, and she's scared. She's your niece .”

Phib snorted bitterly.

Him? Was him her dad? She heard a deep voice, it had to be him! Then she felt herself being picked up, mommy! It had to be mommy! She squeaked and wagged her tiny tail and softly said, "Mommy! My mommy..."

She blindly searched the darkness for a scent or something of the deeper voiced him, "H-him....voice....daddy? Daddy!" her mommy and daddy were in the same place? Was mommy and daddy there names? What were those other words adn names they said? Confused she wriggled only slightly and squeaked happily.

"Wonder what my name be..." she thought. Perhaps she had a good name like mommy and daddy, perhaps it was soft and nice like her.

“Oh, lovely.” Phib muttered bitterly as the child started addressing them as her parents. “Another messed up Hrothmund spawn. She’s perfect, we’re making a collection.”

Phib-“ Amélie hushed, and adjusted her grip on her. “Let him be. He’s troubled, how could he ever raise a child anyways?”

“I think you’re just pup hungry.” He retorted again, although he felt somewhat guilty for saying it after the fact. Amélie didn’t seem to show it had hurt her, and she started to stroll away with the child. “Amélie-?”

Chase after him if it makes you feel better.” The silver retorted. “I don’t think it will.”

"What they saying?" she thought to herself. Perhaps they were talking of a name for her! Yes that would be lovely, then there would be her mommy, daddy, and she would have a name too! Everything would be perfect then. She squeaked softly, not of pain or coldness, but her way of expression some type of outwardly affection in a vocal form towards her mom and dad.

She was going to be with her family again!

But why couldn't she see them yet?

She opened and closed her eyes, blinked, felt the cool air of a breeze touch her open eyes, and they teared up a bit, but she still couldn't see. Everything was-

"-black...can't see yet...but mommy is here..." She thought. "Mommy..." she spoke softly, in a frail voice, "I feel mommy, where daddy?" she spoke in her childish words. Still not able to form proper sentences, but she was trying her hardest!

Perhaps daddy was close too.
