Besides the delays, everything seemed to be working out for the local Halloween party. Due to the chaos with Gambino’s party and the subsequent alien outbreak, it had been delayed to one of the first days in November. Some people found this confusing and attempted to argue, but were subsequently dragged to the party anyway.
The ballroom of one of the more upper-class hotels in Durem was now filled to capacity with Gaians in outlandish costumes, as well as a few aliens who had somehow snuck in, and exactly one cow, who was currently tipped over in the middle of the room. This particular party was beginning to get a bit rowdy, and it didn’t help that the DJ ignored all requests and continued to only play songs that were over the speed of “obscenely fast”. It was proving to be too much for some people, and about twenty of these had congregated nearby the food table in the back. At least three people had fainted, about seven others were tending to the fainted people, and the other ten were just bored and sitting around.
One of the latter, whose costume appeared to be imitating either an attorney with a gun or a Yakuza member, suddenly stood up and crumbled up the paper cup he had been drinking champagne out of, then made another attempt to rejoin the crowd.. He was promptly shoved back out. “…Oh well. I guess I’ll go get some punch or something,” he mumbled to himself.
The rest of the people in the back had congregated, and were providing medical care to, the three unconscious partygoers. As he swilled a cup of punch down his throat, the lone Gaian didn’t notice a small red dot appear on the back of his neck. He also didn’t notice when a bullet was fired. This severed his spinal cord, promptly killing him. He collapsed, banged his head on the punch bowl, then landed underneath the table, shrouded by the tablecloth.
No one noticed anything until the next morning, when the party area was cleaned up and Mori's body was discovered. Several people, however, commented that the punch “looked too dark and tasted a bit salty”.
