It was quiet for a moment, but as he saw her start to shake, it drove the final stake into his heart. He'd never done anything to deserve her sudden mistrust of him, he was sure of that... he'd never hurt her, he'd never even gotten mad at her... so why did she fear him? A bitter sadness rose up in him, and the faint desire to hurt her in the way she'd hurt him teased at the edge of his consciousness... but even if she didn't trust him not to follow those instincts, he would never resort to that. Why didn't she understand?
He was sure, in that moment, that there was no going back for either of them, and he understood that even if she had loved him, it would never have worked. Taking a step back with an air of finality, he let his forelocks fall over his eyes so they were hidden from view. "I should go... I wish you the best of luck and happiness with your foals, miss Luna."

So this was it. Closure, he supposed. It was for the best, he tried to assure himself... a relationship never would have worked between two people who didn't trust each other... or just one that didn't trust the other, he reminded himself bitterly. Somehow, it didn't make him feel any better. She didn't love him, and she never had. You can't love someone you don't trust. She hadn't even tried to understand his pain, either... was he so unimportant?
Not wanting to ponder the truth of the answer to that question, the stallion blinked back frustrated tears, feeling the last strands of stability in his bleeding heart unravel into nothing. He wanted to beg and plead, to make her see what she was doing to him... but what was there left to say? He hadn't done anything wrong! There was nothing to apologize for... so why? Why wouldn't she stay? Why didn't she love him? What had he done to deserve this? And goddammit all... why did it hurt so much?!
Unable to withhold the brunt of his emotions, he let loose a cry of grief and agony, of unending pain and sorrow, at her, at the unfairness of it all. He wished, at that moment, that he could sink into the ground and be no more.
