I've read it. It's good in parts. But I would have to say that I preferred the movie. It does leave out the "kissing scenes", but tells you where to write to so you can recieve that part of the book.

Love the movie, love the book But was kinda weirded out by the 3 different endings, especially by which one the author stated was the favorite. . . *V*spoiler ahoy*V* I mean MAN. Having an ending to a romantic / comedy / fantasy being where the hero who was brought back to life start to resuccumb to having been dead, while Buttercup & Wesley start to bicker & fight (which indicates they really didn't have "true" love after all, and the band of friends begins to splinter into different groups and go their own ways. . . ??? Or was he being satyrical & I just missed the point? ^_^

::I LOVED the book. The movie is amazing, of course, but I preferred the book. It has the kind of dry, sarcastic humor that I'm very fond of. If you're not a fan of major digression then I'd stay away from the book, though. The author goes on little (hilarious) rants during the middle of the story and my sister hated that with a passion. I highly reccomend it, though.::

Wasn't this one of the official book club threads?
Anyway, I do love The Princess Bride, and my real life book club actually just read it. whee I have to admit that I was fooled by the whole "Florin is a real country!" trick that Goldman pulled. I thought since I'm so terrible at geography that I just never learned about it. XP
But the best was how he kept making fun of symbolism that authors used. Like, in Buttercup's Baby where he said "and Morgenstein went on a fifty page rant about trees in Florin and how he was mad at the Florinese government for not protecting the enviorment!" What made me giggle is that I can actually imagine an author incorporating all that into an actual book.
